Where do I begin. I was visiting Columbus for the first time, and made my way to a small shopping area. I found this place walking down the road. Luckily I found it in me, to wing it, and just eat there. It turned out to be wonderful service at the bar, and great recommendations. I don't recall exactly what we ordered. I just know it was so good, I would definitely go back, anytime I'm in Columbus. Two thumbs up. read more

What a cool space!! We held a large dinner and presentation there for about 15 people. They had an awesome private room upstairs with full AV hookup and a private bar. We hold a lot of these dinner meetings, and this space was by far one of the best we reserved. All of the staff was incredibly helpful and attentive. If we needed anything at all they were totally on it. Super friendly too, each of our servers came up and introduced themselves to us at the beginning. The food was sooooo good. We got a little bit of everything. The brussels sprouts were amazing. We also had some of the duck wings, artichoke dip, and the beet salad. By far the best thing was the knife + fork burger. The food also was ready so quick! We will definitely be coming back to Hubbard Grille. read more

Food was amazing during happy hour. My friends and I had the most rude server i've ever encountered. it ruined the experience for us

One of my favorite go-to happy hour locations. The atmosphere is perfect - classy, hip, not over crowded. The deals are great - happy hour was shortened to 6, so get there early! I love their spinach and artichoke dip and house wine. The patio is small, but usually not crowded, so we snatch it up every time. Love it here. read more

I hosted a Bachelorette Party in their upstairs Bar/Private Dining Room Area and it couldn't be any better! Ryan the Manager that I worked with was so helpful and accommodating getting us set up, from food, drinks, room set up, & decor! This is the perfect place to host any function. The Bride was so impressed! Not only was the staff super friendly, but the food was amazing. Everyone in our group was raving about the food the next day. We got a variety of their appetizers to start, our entrees ranged from their Fried Chicken, Salmon, & Gouda Burger, and we finished we an assorted of mini desserts. This was my first time here and it won't be my last! read more

First time dining here, took a chance on some place different, and weren't disappointed! The food was excellent, I had the Salmon, crispy topping was delicious, my husband loved his steak, great, friendly service. Will definitely be coming back here. I had a pretty bad time here but Juliet and was proactive in following up with me and making it right. It was certainly appreciated and given we've been to Hubbard a handful of times without incident, I think we'll certainly keep going given they made the effort to make it right. Unless our last time was the new norm, it's a good place to go and they obviously care about your feedback. read more

This was my first time here and all I can say is amazing!!! The staff was super friendly and accommodating from me calling speaking to Brandy about reservations, our waitress Katlyn who was just beyond awesome!! Even the manager Austin who came over and made us feel welcome!! The food was so good!! It came out fresh and hot and in timely manner! The atmosphere was beautiful! I honestly haven't had this good of a dining experience in a very long time and i tend to eat out at nice places often! I highly recommend The Hubbard Grille to everyone!! I visited the Hubbard Grille this week for a group outing and I can't recommend it enough. They did everything they could to accommodate our group. Opened early and made sure we had all of our needs taken care of perfectly. The server who helped us (John) was one of the most caring and professional people I've ever gotten to work with. He went above and beyond at every turn to make sure we were well taken care of. The food was amazing too. Everything on the menu was amazing. The Lake Erie walleye and the pork chop were amazing. I will absolutely be back every time I have another group outing or am in town. 5 star, highly recommended. read more

Service excellent. Our family went for a graduation dinner and reserved the private dining room upstairs. Our bartender/ waiter was so nice and accommodating. I wish I remembered his name but it was on Saturday 1/4. Drinks were strong. Food great no complaints. The manager made sure we were taken care of very good time. Would recommend and come back. The only thing that sucked was parking which can't be helped it's downtown Columbus ‍. Other than that good times read more

Hosted a baby shower dinner for 30 guest and the service received was outstanding. Tina the event coordinator was great to work with! She quickly responded to all questions! Everything was seamless and easy. From the setup to service received I would definitely recommend Hubbard Grille's private room for your next large gathering! The space was perfect for our party and private enough to forget you're actually in an open restaurant. The servers accommodated every request and delivered beyond our expectations!!! read more

It gets 2 stars because the food is great but the service is AWFUL. Happy hour is 4-6 and I live across the street so I came in at 5:20. I waited in 2 friends while showed up at 5:35 and we told the server that we wanted to do happy hour. We didn't see him again until right at 6:00 when I placed my order and he told us THREE times that it was no longer happy hour. Unfortunately we were able to see him standing inside talking from 5:30-6:00 so that was upsetting but the food is also worth full price. Between the three of us we ordered 6 appetizers and when they brought our food the man said we ordered "too much food to fit on the table" ‍ we Addressed how rude that was and he didn't say anything. A joke? Maybe. But inappropriate nonetheless. ive always had a good experience here but things have gone downhill. Very disappointed. read more

I was greeted by friendly faces at the door. i was seated at the bar and pretty much ignored for 15-20 minutes. i asked what the market special was and the guy behind the counter didn't know. I was finally able to order a glass of wine only to have to wait for 10-15 minutes more to get it. all the other customers including ones that walked in after me and were seated after me were given service before me. I wonder why??? I was polite and respectful with a smile. I've never received such awful service in my life. I always tip well. i will not be coming back to this awful place. read more

We haven't been here for a long time, but decided to pop in on a Friday night. We were very happy there was no wait (despite the place being pretty busy) and were seated in a comfy booth. The waitress was nice, efficient, filled the drinks, checked on us. The brussels sprouts were some of the best I've ever had; perfectly crisp, but not falling apart, and not too sweet. Food came out within a reasonable length of time. I had the hamburger, which was VERY tasty (crisp on the outside of the patty, but juicy inside, with a smoky, rich flavor). My husband had the sea bass special, which was also prepared perfectly. read more

Hubbard hosted a work happy hour for my department last week. It was the perfect place to host the event! I had about 25 people attend and their upstairs space was perfect. Planning was easy. Surprised my husband by taking him here for his birthday. We don't go into the city often but this was definitely worth the trip! Totally enjoyed the decor and ambience. The food was delicious. We loved the jalapeno corn bread and our entrees - Goat Cheese Ravioli and Korean Lamb Chops - were outstanding, with well balanced flavors and 'melt-in-your-mouth' goodness! Our waiter was attentive, but not hovering. The manager visited our table as well. All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience and we will definitely go back again! read more

Once again we had a great meal at Hubbard Grill. Food was excellent, staff was friendly and the atmosphere is very comfortable. We started off with calamari. My husband had the paleo special of a 16oz ribeye, asparagus, and carrots. I had the best salad with shrimp. We finished with the red wine infused upside down cake. We have no complaints! Tuesday night is Chicken Dinner night at the Hubbard Grille, if the Colonel had their recipe he would have definitely been the General. If I would give a zero star if I could . Dinner started out well. All the entrees were in the process of being served, everyone had a meal except my wife. Five minutes later they said the chef was unhappy with how my wife's sea bass was prepared and is remaking the dish. My wife politely said everyone eat. 10 minutes after everyone was finished eating my wife's dish arrived. In the process of my daughter eating her entree salad a big piece of plastic presumably from the plastic bag that the salad is stored in was pulled from the middle of the salad. Fortunately, I have never had this happen at any other restaurant I have ever eaten. The salad was taken off the bill which was nice. But my wife's meal should have been free as she ate by herself. read more

I lived down the street years ago and frequented this place (mostly eating salads). We decided to go back for restaurant week and I'm happy to say Hubbard he upped their game. Everything was amazing! My fiancé (now wife) and I had a small reception there this weekend. With covid restrictions dictating our lives, they were very accommodating with their operation. First time going on a Tuesday for the fried chicken special. Its sooooo good. I kinda already knew what I was getting but took a look through the menu anyway. My server was awesome! Probably the best one I've ever had. He was funny and had a lot of great suggestions. Of course I ended up ordering the $10 fried chicken but I did add an app of hush puppies since they were only $3 for happy hour. Everything was delicious. They're brussel sprouts and white cheddar grits come with the chicken they are both 2 of the best things I've ever tasted and complement the chicken well. The chicken was crispy, juicy and hot. I'd personally like it more seasoned but it was still very good. I cant even complain for $10. I went around 4pm when they opened and that's was a great decision. It wasn't busy at all and I was able to sit wherever. I definitely will be back on another Tuesday for this awesome meal deal. read more

I recently hosted my son and daughter in law's wedding rehearsal brunch renting out the upstairs space. It was just the perfect size for our small group. They set the tables up so we could all talk and really felt intimate. The menus with our brunch choices were personalized just for our party which was a very nice touch. The food was great and they even had a meal for our 1 year old flower girl! This was greatly appreciated. The service was beyond awesome and they were so friendly and accommodating with requests. A big thank you to Tina for the help in organizing our day. Being from out of town it was nice to know that all the details were being taken care of so I did not have to stress over anything when I arrived in town. read more

We have eaten at several restaurants on High street. This was by far our least favorite. We ordered the ravioli and the burger. The burger was served on a hard sesame bun that wasn't even buttered grilled. It was very average. We also ordered the ravioli. There was almost no sauce on the ravioli, very bland tasting. The food came out so fast it's hard to imagine a chef taking their time to prepare something special for you. Not worth the money you will pay! The one delicious thing we had was the appetizer of brussel sprouts. Drinks were pretty good. I wouldn't go back, as there are too many amazing places in Columbus to eat. read more

Lovely atmosphere. Convenient local. Reasonable pricing. Good cocktails. Good service although maybe a touch to intrusive. Food is out promptly and pretty in presentation. Taste wise, flavor wise, it fell just a tab bit short for me. Everything felt dull, overworked, and bland. read more

I hosted a dinner for our team of 24 people on the second floor of the Hubbard Grille in their private dining room. The event coordinator was wonderful in making sure the dinner was the perfect experience right down to our logo printed on the event menu. I got the shrimp fettuccine and it was awesome! It came with a ton of food. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned great. My boyfriend got the salmon which he loved as well. We got the skillet dip for an appetizer and it was alright. It tasted a little bit more like chili than a Mexican dip. However, overall a great meal! read more

Um, Oh dear. Remind me why it took me so long to get over to this place again? My friend had a coupon for the Hubbard Grille last week, and I'm pretty sure I could have eaten the whole menu. One of the things I liked about HG was that they were pretty posh and fancy, but they had the enormous Middle-American portion sizes of Outback Steakhouse. You heard me--fancy food that actually tastes good in enormous quantities. I ordered cornbread as an appetizer and what came out of the kitchen was the size of a small cake, with a blob of butter flavored with lavender. (I know that sounds weird, but I swear, it was amazing.) For dinner I had the pulled turkey sandwich, which I am definitely now a fan of, and substituted my fries for asparagus. Now, when they brought out our food, I was a little bit sad about that choice, because apparently when you get fries, they come in their own miniature deep fry strainer. Needless to say, I wanted one. This place is pretty pricey, so I doubt I'll be back without a coupon, or unless it's a special occasion, but I'm seriously itching to try some of the other goodies on their menu. read more

Hubbard Grille is a fantastic addition to The Short North and one that I whole-heartedly recommend to anyone who may be apprehensive. Now, I am from a small town near Youngstown called Hubbard, Ohio (yest, it is a real city in Ohio!) so there was no doubt in my mind that I would love this place for the name alone if not for anything else! It makes me smile to see the name of my hometown on an enormous neon "HUBBARD" sign that lights up the neighborhood. Since most people can not appreciate Hubbard Grille for its name, rest assured, I like it for far more than that! Upon entering Hubbard Grille, you will more than likely have to check in and wait for a table, as it is a very popular place. It's worth the wait! Believe me. Just pop a squat at one of the swanky bar stools and order off of their fun and unique drink menu while you wait. They have fantastic drinks, such as the "New Old Fashioned" and the "Whippity Doo Dah" (Pinnacle whipped cream vodka with root beer or ginger ale). You'll know when your table is ready when - get this - the hostess calls your cell phone from the front! Welcome to the 21st century, folks! Now for the fun part: the food! There is a fun selection of sandwiches, salads, appetizers and entrees. The prices range from $8 (for a gourmet grilled cheese or BLT with a twist) to $28 (for what looks to be a killer filet). I split the difference and got the cajun spiced red snapper for $21. It did not disappoint. The portions were full, the flavor was poppin', and the fish was cooked perfectly. Another highlight was that it came with cheese grits - something I do not normally care for - that were the best I ever had. They were so cheesy and had the perfect texture. YUMM! I also tried my friend's dish, which was the buttermilk fried all natural Ohio chicken. It was fantastic...I suppose the only thing I think that could make it better is if it were boneless. That's always a plus for me personally. A fun treat at the beginning was the housemade corn bread with lavendar butter. It was really great cornbread, but to be fair, not the best I ever had. The lavendar butter though was a fun twist. Hubbard Grille had a great decor: fresh, modern and slick. This place is hip and youthful. I really like it and can't wait to go back!!! read more

Today I had the best brunch in years, and that's saying a lot because I'm old and I eat a lot of brunch. There seemed to be a lot of attention to detail in preparing the food well. My hat's off to the chef. I had the frittata, which was lovely, and substituted cheese grits for my side. Best grits in Columbus, so far. French press coffee is cool, and delicious. My daughter got the fried chicken, and added hush puppies. They where hot , soft, and tasty. Even the English muffins were special, as was the strawberry puree they brought me on request. I can't say anything bad about this place, unless you like to quibble about money. I'm a one-percenter so I enjoy paying a ton of money for an excellent brunch! read more

Our local press has given the Hubbard Grille a pretty mixed review, and I echo those sentiments. The retro red neon sign draws you mothlike through the doors, and a soothing amber glow fills the interior. There's a strong emphasis on design that feels upscale and a tad pretentious for a "bar and grille". The plan was dinner and drinks, and we were told there would be a 30 minute wait - even though a quick glance confirmed 5 open tables. We sat ourselves at the bar, and witnessed no less than 3 two-tops lining the High St. windows that stayed empty during our entire 2 hour dinner. That one is a big pet peeve for me. Another immediate disappointment was the cocktail menu. A few of the listed drinks caught my interest, but not at $8-10 a pop. In the end, we ordered one round of draft beers and focused on the menu. It may be the one saving grace. My lady friend and I usually try small plates to get a feel for new restaurants, and we ordered a few salads, sides, and appetizers to share. The cornbread was crumbly but comforting, with outstanding locally grown lavender-infused butter. Our crab cake was far from "jumbo" but fresh and very satisfying, even served on a forgettable mush of of shredded vegetable. We each ordered a salad, which was a smart move, as even their "small" portions are piled high with greens. I ordered the arugula and loved it, she opted for the winter salad. Our waiter was happy to substitute arugula when the winter salad greens weren't available, and even brought a selection of flavored vinegars to please her picky palate. But the very best part of our meals had to be the side dishes - her 5 tomato soup was rich and complicated, and my order of green beans with pancetta was mouth-watering. Literally. On that Sunday night the demographic skewed much older and richer than I anticipated, I felt like a fish out of water. The price point is a little alienating for broke kids like me, it's not likely to become a drinking destination. The portions are quite strange, a cup of soup was minuscule and a small salad was substantial. But the next time I have a craving that can't be sated by cheap eats, I know a great place to go for a rocking soup and salad. read more

I snatched up the Fudha for this new addition to the Short North and used the coupon the same day, which happened to be a weekday. After trekking through the icy streets (uphill both ways, I say!), we arrived and there was no wait. it was by no means completely deserted, and by the other reviews here I'm glad we didn't have to deal with waiting since it seems to be a bit of a problem here. One thing that stuck out in my mind was how gosh-darned nice our waitress was. I was a little taken aback by how strong she was selling their cocktails, but she was attentive and helpful throughout the evening, even when we didn't get anything too terribly fancy. Anyway, we ordered beers and the Graham-Cracker crusted calamari to start. I appreciate that they have "recession special" beers, so I got a PBR for $1.50. The calamari was outstanding, possibly the best I've ever had anywhere, and definitely the best I've had in the midwest. It came with a sweet cinnamon sauce. With that and the graham cracker topping, it was a very creative twist on an often frozen-out-of-the-box dish. the mixture of sweet-and-savory wasn't off-putting and it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Hub Burger, which comes with Manchengo cheese, mushrooms, and red pepper relish in addition to all the standard burger toppings. Mine came out close to perfect, but my boyfriend's rare burger looked the same as my medium burger. We didn't say anything, and both ended up enjoying our sandwiches. One thing that makes a great burger is a good bun, and Hubbard's definitely fit the bill. I'd say it was my favorite fancy burger in Columbus, and it blew Third and Hollywood's out of the water. The only thing that was ever-so-slightly lacking were the fries - they tasted suspiciously identical to Steak-n-Shake, which was just bizarre. I mean, they tasted good, but I don't think they were fresh cut, but I could be wrong. read more

Let's talk about an awesome dining experience. It was Cinco de Mayo and one of 2 sunny days Columbus has seen in months so it was absolutely necessary a friend and I enjoy drinks on a patio somewhere...anywhere. We tried the usual suspects for a good Mexican themed time, but most were overridden with college students, blaring Britney Spears and Ke$ha instead of delightful sounds from a mariachi band. Since that isn't exactly our scene anymore, we moseyed into Hubbard Grille in the Short North. There was no mariachi music (the music playing was darn good though) but the patio had open tables and the sun was shining. To start, the $5 (yes, $5!) margaritas were scrumptious - not too strong, mixed up just right - although, they weren't exactly on par with the jumbo sized beverages that were likely being served across the street. Round 2 of drinks came with great recommendations from our server. Unfortunately one was a little too strong for my friend, but the server happily gave her something else and took it off our bill. Our appetizers of calamari and mac & cheese were perfect. The cinnamon sauce with the calamari was a little strange though. We left feeling content with our $40 excursion. But the most awesome part of the dining experience came after we left. Like most Twitter geeks, I immediately tweeted my location when we sat down to dinner. The next morning @HubbardGrille responded. Here's how it went down: Me - Happy hour at @HubbardGrille patio w/ @amanda_r_leeman. Perfect day. HG - @tiffany_g_smith Now if the sun will come out everyday we can have more Patio parties! We hope you enjoyed HH! Me - @HubbardGrille We did enjoy HH. Sarah (our server) was awesome, had great wine recs & cute jewelry. We'll be back! #foodie #shortnorth HG - @tiffany_g_smith That makes us very happy. We love to make new friends! Now, that's good customer relations, folks. The best way to keep me coming back is by building a well-rounded relationship. Hubbard Grille definitely accomplishes that with its inexpensive happy hour, great service, delicious appetizers and really good use of social media. read more

Hit up Hubbard last night and thought it was a pretty fantastic place. For such an upscale-feeling bar/restaurant, prices for beer were not bad! Maybe it's because they don't have to pay for someone to wash all the glasses they save by bringing all of your beers in cans. I guess that's the Hubbard MO - cans of beer. I'm cool with that, though, because my 16oz Oranjeboom was $4. Just was here to hang out, though, so I didn't have any food. Maybe next time... but the prices did seem a little high. I know I'll probably scare a lot of people away by describing it this way, but Hubbard is Bar Louie's older, cooler uncle. I mean that in the best way possible. Same feel to it, but an older and (slightly) less trendy clientele. Plus, it's closer to me than the Arena District and not as secluded as Arena District if you want to go to multiple places in one night that don't include a lot of, well, Arena District folk. Also, I recommend heading straight upstairs to the bar that's there if you're just looking for drinks. There are 5-6 booths/couch areas and definitely a cool place to just kick it with some friends. All in all, I'll definitely be back. read more
