He employs the same strategy at his other restaurants, Biscuits & Hogs and two other Brunchette joints in the Boise area. A note was literally taped to the door to announce the closing a couple of days ago. I hope the service staff got more warning than customers who might be holding gift certificates. If that is you, try contacting the owner (and good luck with that) to see if he'll take them at any of his other restaurants. We walk in and it's not busy but we get seated and I had to ask for the birthday menu. It was an okayish dining experience. Food was okayish. My brother got the French toast shooters and when they came out it was clear that they had been sitting in the watery syrup, as they were cold and the bread was completely soggy. Now for the fraud: Our waitress brought the check out and it had said $48 which was fine. When I gave her my card, she processed everything, brought me back my receipt to sign, I noticed the ticket had then said $56. I went to the front to get an itemized receipt, and saw that she had charged for the free birthday item after the fact. She had to process a refund for the $56 and then give me my correct total which was $48. Which I then had to re-pay. I left a $10 cash tip after that but it's obvious the server didn't think we would tip or something and charged us for the free birthday item. Make sure you check both receipts when you get them. I called and left a voicemail, along with a call back number and got nothing so I'm sure the restaurant is in on it too. Buyer beware, hidden and random pricing, check your tickets and ask pricing questions. (If you want the long version, please read below.) Before I get into it, I will start with the positive(ish). Food is ok, not sure it is worth the extremely expensive price tag but worth a try for the creative ingredients on some of the dishes. No matter, expect a big bill no matter what you order. Mimosa flavors are fun and unique. You can expect edible glitter, flowers, and original combinations. Servers are friendly enough. Now, not the super good experience. It was all fun and light hearted until we got our bills. Initially when I asked about adding a slice of french toast to my meal, the server wasn't too clear in the price. On the menu is says "+$3.99". When I asked she said it would be less probably around $2.50. When my friends at the table heard adding a french toast on the meal was actually pretty affordable they said, "oh my gosh, we want to add it on too." Cool, my baby french toast side comes to the table, my friends too, and my third friend's waffle (the smallest waffle ever.. think about the size of a half dollar). Yayee, they are yummy. When our bills arrived, we noticed my baby french toast was actually $5.69, my other friend's french toast was $7 something AND my friend that got the waffle.... 7 something for the smallest waffle in the world!!! Like smallest! It took us off guard because our server told us it would be around $2.50 and/or the menu price because it was...well.... what we were told. When we asked because we felt they rung it up wrong, she got dismissive and said that is the price and got super defensive, and walked away. The money wasn't the issue it was the sneaky menu pricing, the misguidance, and the dismissive response when we asked about the pricing. While I was content just paying, leaving, and never returning, my friend went to just point out to the general manger/manager lady that the pricing on the menu didn't match the prices on our check and what we were being told by our server. The reason for two stars and not one is in the end the general manger/manager gave a few dollars back to my friends but it all seemed a bit shady/deceitful and when asked to remedy it, the resistance was overpowering and shouldn't have been that hard to just get the price we were told and/or the prices that were listed in the menu. read more

After being ignored for five minutes when we walked in, likely because of how busy they were, we had another couple cut in front of us before we were finally brought to a table in a loud corner. After asking the hostess if there was a booth, we were given the most annoyed look followed by an audible huff as we were led to a spot ten feet away, immediately next to a group of even louder 20-something's. Not a good start to set the tone for brunch, fortunately, our server (Sarah) was much more friendly and provided great service throughout our meal. We looked at the menu, filled with items like mimosa flights and a Belgian syphon coffee brewer for the table, this place is a very instagramable diner. Well, it would be if they could live up to their menu items. The syphon coffee set wasn't available because they were out of lighter fluid, so I went with drip coffee instead. My wife had the fresh squeezed OJ, which was fantastic. Out can the food. My wife's Benedict was fantastic, the ham was thin sliced but cooked well, and all of our poached eggs were flawlessly executed. The hollandaise sauce is much better than a lot of places we've had around town. I went for a different take on a Benedict, the Cafe Euro, which had prosciutto and a croissant with a béchamel sauce. I think the prosciutto is good in concept, but was MUCH saltier than I was prepared for. After trying both I would have preferred the ham on the croissants, i it didn't stop us from finishing our plates. All in all, the food was good, decent sized portions, maybe a little overpriced. It's definitely a place to bring a group of friends to have an experience, although I'm not sure how long it will be before we return. read more

We stopped in for a Saturday brunch and were thoroughly disappointed. After waiting for 20 minutes by ourselves in the lobby we were seated at a table with a sticky surface. We ordered a Bloody Mary and an orange juice. We split the Chicken fried steak with potatoes and toast. At this point, roughly 12:30 pm, the restaurant was starting to thin out from the breakfast rush. Unfortunately when we received our meals, it was cold and congealed. The gravy on the steak was turning into a dusty brown jello and the eggs were stone cold. Our waiter Ian asked if everything was great? I said no, the food is all cold. He said oh, should I have they make it again? I said no, why would I roll the dice again for another cold showing from the kitchen. Then he said, how about something to go? I again said no, we're out in a Saturday shopping and doing errands, I don't want a Togo order stinking up my vehicle all day with more jello gravy. My wife couldn't even get near the icy eggs or the cold breaded steak and gravy mess. We finished our drinks and bailed out fast. They did take 50% off the ticket but hardly right when we bailed on most of the meal. Please examine the photos provided to fully appreciate the congealed gravy they expected us to consume. Again, I can't understand or accept how this sat and got so cold when the kitchen was 15 steps from our sticky top booth. Our advice, bypass this food service training center, and ALWAYS go to the Griddle off Eagle Road. Great food, service and no arctic brunch to screw up your Saturday. Cheers! read more

I brought my son in for lunch last week and when our food arrived I grabbed the ketchup bottle for my potatoes. I didn't even shake the bottle, but as I twisted the cap open the ketchup bottle EXPLODED on me. Ketchup up the window, along the wall, splattered across the entire table, and ALL OVER ME. My purse, top, and shorts were COVERED in ketchup. Our waitress could not have been sweeter, but as she ran over the first thing she cried out was, "THIS KEEPS HAPPENING!" You mean to tell me that I'm not the first person who has had a bottle of ketchup explode on them? I asked what she meant and she explained that the owner/manager insists that the ketchup bottles be filled to the top, and that they keep trying to explain that with the heat there is pressure building in the bottles and their customers keep getting sprayed with ketchup, but the bottles are still topped off at the end of each day. By 1:30pm that full bottle of ketchup had been simmering for hours and when I cracked the top it was like a geyser unleashed. It sounded like a soda bottle that had been shaken and left as a practical joke. I'm pretty annoyed that this could have been prevented. I get that freak accidents happen but it doesn't sound like this was a one-in-a-million type of occurrence since TWO waitresses told me, "I can't believe this keeps happening! I'm so sorry!" I had to ask for wet rags from the kitchen and give myself a sponge bath in the middle of the restaurant. Then I had to reschedule the rest of my afternoon because it was necessary to go home and change following our lunch. I'm not blaming the waitress because there may only be so much she's allowed to do in this type of situation, but her means of apology was to comp my meal 10%. Not even the entire bill, but JUST MY MEAL. So I walked out of that restaurant with a ruined purse, ruined shorts, and ruined top, and was comped $1.70. The food looks right but also artificial, they charged a lot for the chicken fried steak but it was small and kind of gross. The fruit was a whole lot of honey melon, no blueberries, no black berries, no strawberries, no apple, no orange, just a few grapes and pineapple. No one bothered to refill my coffee. I overhead one of the staff say how slow it was. If the food had been less expensive but given the $25 ($18 plus a coffee) I expected more. Ambiance/decor - its cute. But certain decor feels out of place/tacky, this is likely my own personal preference so please don't judge the restaurant on it. Low ceilings. Nowhere to lock up bikes. Cleanliness - clean on our visit. Small touches could be made as closing responsibilities--light bulbs could be dusted, mirrors inside cleaned, etc. Service - it was ok. Host desk greeted us quickly and asked us how we were doing. Smiles. Server missed opportunities to talk about menu items (although, would be in the "above and beyond" category). Waters came to the table 8 minutes after we asked. 12 minute ticket time on three drinks with no liquor--unacceptable. Food came out decent timing, maybe 18-20 minutes. Management - No presence on the floor. No table touch when something goes wrong. Pricing - Absolutely insane pricing--and not just for Idaho. You're gutted for add- ons. $25 for a plate of waffles with some marscapone (I think?), two eggs, and a vegan sausage. Server was understanding and took off the sausage add on. Needless to say we were shocked. I've opened 5 restaurants in several cities and likely notice more than others. But to charge $25 for breakfast and build regulars you need to nail all of the little details. read more

I am going to be a little gracious and give this place a 4 star review but our experience yesterday was more of a 3 star. I am giving the benefit of the doubt because it was Mothers Day and they were extremely busy. We made a reservation for 1p and when we arrived approximately 10 mins prior we were told our time would be closer to the actual time. We were actually sat at 1:20 which was a little disturbing. Once seated our experience really turned around because our waitress was amazing and super attentive/friendly. We ordered some mimosas and that as well took almost 15 mins to get but wanting to be patient because how busy they were. Once we ordered our food all was good so we thought...unfortunately that also took almost an hour for just our food. This is where my next issue came into play. While we have enjoyed there other locations and food on this day it really wasn't up to par. My food was so oily and the chicken fried steak in the meal was super chewy and fatty. Plus the side order of bacon while flair was awesome it was soggy and not prepared how I wanted. The rest of the gang liked their food except for my wife and I. She thought her eggs benedict was also underwhelming including the hollandaise sauce that was over done and congealed. But what I would suggest despite being busy the staff look at other areas of the place like the restrooms. By the time we left everyone had used the facility came back with the same thought of not somewhere I would want to go back in. However despite some of the missteps we would give this place another try based in our other experiences. read more

Thank you! We decided to try something new after my partner decided I didn't have enough food in my house. The atmosphere is darling. Like a garden center with breakfast attached. The food came out and was FAST and well presented. The first bites were amazing. I just had the classic, with the home style fries. The eggs, chicken jalepeno sausage, and fries in one bite together were heaven. I usually eat my food seperately (longstanding culinary psychological issue) and trust me. That was also phenomenal. Trendy cute spot in Garden City. We started with a coffee and cappuccino..cappuccino must have been from a machine (like those in gas station). Way too sweet. I had a yogurt with fruit and granola and a side of Avocado toast. The yogurt was sweetened vanilla with a citrus flavor. It would have been great if yogurt was plain unsweetened. Add that to my sweet coffee and it was way too much sugar. The Avocado toast had no seasoning and they weren't the best avocados & toast didnt hold up to the avocado. Now hubs had the Wild Harvest Omelet with tasty crispy home fries, eggs cooked correctly with feta, arugula, roasted garlic. He enjoyed it but we did not have a mimosa and the bill for 2 was 53$...too steep for breakfast. very disappointed in this place. it came up on my instagram as an ad a couple months ago and the concept is so cute and I was so excited. I love brunch. I love mimosas. I love the whole thing. i'm in. when I finally saw the location I was like hmm ok. across from the big lots, that's not great. we will see. when we walked in, the remodel was very cute. they managed to turn that dump (it was so bad when it was sunrise) into something different. everything is white and airy, there's fun sayings on the walls, it's farmhousey. they made the effort. I like what they did. when you walk into the vibe they are supposedly creating and your server is half asleep and barely says hello and has zero personality it starts the meal off on a bad note. she didn't relate to us, she wasn't happy or cheerful, she didn't suggest anything to us to try. it was like they brought the sunrise servers in there who are literally just there for tips and don't care. if you're changing the vibe and want to fit in with the downtown restaurants, you gotta get people in that want to be there. it wasn't just our server. it was all of them. I was sitting facing the breakfast bar and I literally watched 3 women (who were not working? no idea what they were doing) stand there THE ENTIRE time we were there, just talking. our mimosas took forever to come out and they were just hanging out. it blew my mind. my next note on huckhouse- the prices. is this a joke? $17 for eggs benedict? first of all, we are in garden city- not downtown. we are next to a big lots in a converted diner. there is no patio. this is not glamorous. they are actually charging more for breakfast than any other place I have ever been to in the treasure valley. more than rembrandt's in eagle. more than most of craves menu. more than tupelo honey AND bitter creek AND juniper downtown. are you serious? the prices were absolutely outrageous. see for yourself- I posted the menu. our food finally came out and wow what a disappointment. I paid $16 for some spinach, onions, and a few squares (???) of sausage with 3 eggs. that's what I got. I don't understand. and my strawberry basil mimosa was a very offputting color. when the server brought it out I was kind of blown. she goes, "oh yeah everyone says it looks disgusting, but it tastes good." ok. it tasted like grass and day old strawberries. i'm not the type to send anything back. Like the ambiance , my brunch was good , I had the fresh squeezed carafe orange juice and the steak and eggs . I was disappointed with the seasonal fruit , the pineapple was old . My last visit (and I mean my last), I was shocked to learn that the owner is over a week LATE in PAYING his employees, so much so that they encourage their tables to pay and tip in cash so they are able to have some sort of take home pay. This is insane, as Idaho server wage is 3.35 already?? I have been to Huck House since they first opened, and they USED to be one of the best breakfast spots in Boise. In 4 years, I've seen their menu reduced to half of the options of what it used to be, their portions reduce in size, and an overall lack in quality. Now, the owner has neglected to renew his alcohol license (probably due to finances), and neglected to pay his staff. Despite this, I've always had great service here and the staff are always very friendly. Lets hope this failing business can figure it out, otherwise some very kind people will be out of work. read more

The menu may be similar to the McCall location, but this is not the same. It still feels like a sunshine cafe, and the food is about the same as you would get from that place. It was greasy, the service was slow, I didn't get the things I ordered and the waitress acted annoyed when I pointed it out, and I never got a refill on my weak drip coffee.
