This was my first meal coming into town in Jersey City, and I was ravenous and it definitely did what it needed to do to satiate my desire for meat. The atmosphere was a bit like a sports bar because there were some game going on, so it seems like a good place to watch a game if that's your thing, Inside it was giving a quaint Irish pub which I thought was cute. We ordered the fish and chips and the Guinness chuck roast gravy dish, and both were decent. I thought the fish had a nice crisp on it and the fries were OK and my Guinness dish was pretty flavorful Although it did need just a bit of salt which we added, and that did the trick. The portion sizes were more than fair, and had I not been so ravenous I probably wouldn't have finished my meal, but it was definitely a portion that could satiate a grown man. The service was decent, and the food came out quickly. It was a bit noisier in there than I would prefer, but again, if you're there to watch the game, it would definitely be your vibe. read more

Came here for a couple beers to pass some time. It's a cool spot, especially when the doors are all open and you can get a nice breeze. Happy hour deals are also pretty generous and expansive, since you can get a lot of good drafts at a good price. Very large restaurant that has indoor and outdoor seating. Food is like English pub food - I had beef stew with mashed potatoes and as a group we shared calamari. The food was very good and the portion sizes and prices were very reasonable. There was only one server that night, no host, and one bartender, so the service was a bit slower than what I would have liked, but that is not really a big deal, and maybe it was because it was a early weeknight and not a lot of people. The service that we did have though was very good! I also really liked their mocktails! As I said this space is huge, and every table is spaced out nicely, and I think it would be great for big groups and also to bring your kid along to eat with you! read more

Went out last night to Hudson hound and had chicken wings and a dirty martini. The chicken wings with the dry rub were fantastic. My only complaint is with the dirty martini. As a lover of dirty martinis, I'd recommend using a much higher quality olive brine and olive. They just didn't have a pleasant taste. Other than that, I'd definitely recommend! read more

The restaurant space at end of Erie hasn't had a good track record, owing to sky high rents and an oversaturated restaurant scene. Hudson Hound is the latest to fill the gap. It's pricey and the vibe is much more gastropub than the menu's Irish pub would suggest but, it's a fine place to grab pub food and a pint. I sidled up to the sleek bar on a Thursday night with a craving for fish and chips. I must say I'm not disappointed. I've been wanting to try this restaurant and glad I did. I tried their cocktail called the JC Gem and it was delicious. I will say my party ordered the Burrata, which our waitress forgot , so we were disappointed. But then I'll just have to come back to taste is soon. We sat outside as a perfect night for but the inside is beautiful. My friends really liked their main courses. I ordered the vegetarian risotto which was extremely rich so I couldn't eat much of it. They should really serve a piece of bread with this main course would be my only complaint. So I ended up ordering a side of their homemade sour dough bread which is so good. Nice little craft beer selection on tap, along with a proper pour of Guinness from what I observed. I enjoyed a Carton Brewing Pilsner which was a smooth Jersey based brew. Fish and chips were tasty, and not greasy. All priced accordingly. We sat at the bar and had terrific service. Staff here is friendly and the place itself evokes a cozy feel. Checked out this place for a relaxed outdoor diner. They also had a high chair and a kids menu so we were sold. Mostly bar food with a slight Irish theme. Tables were spread out inside and they had plenty of tables outside so a good start. We mostly ordered off the bar menu and split the cheese plate $16, chicken tenders $9, fish and chips $20, small order of wings $12, and an Irish soda bread $4. Went here for Mother's Day. Had made a reservation on their website about a week before and had no problem for getting a table of 5. Once we got there the hostess was kind enough to offer inside and outside seating, and had reserved both so I could choose. Which was so nice and considerate! Getting into the food. We ordered a whole loaf of the Irish soda bread (worth it compared to the side of Irish soda bread it was $12 for the loaf of about 10 pieces versus $5 for 2 pieces!) quite a hack tbh. I ended up with the HH Benedict which was good you could either get it on a scone or their homemade potato pancake. I got it on the scone, it wasn't bad but would have liked their potato pancake. My benidict also had there home made smoked salmon and it was delish. My boyfriend got the full Irish which was standard and very good. My dad got the chicken and waffles which was ($18) but could've been a little bigger. The outdoor seating was amazing and really was so nice because of the umbrellas. The only thing was that my moms HH Benedict didn't come out with everything, and we weren't checked on by our waiter that much so we had to flag him down when we actually wanted to order. Made a reservation for Hudson Hound Friday night to try Jersey City's Restaurant week. They had a 2 for $32 offer where you can select one appetizer + the entree or one dessert + the entree. I chose the latter. The vibe was fun as I was greeted by 3 woman at the hostess station. My table was ready and I was quickly seated. The lighting was a bit too low for my liking, but it created a vibe that enclosed the space from the open windows being directly on Erie St. The music had a mix of late 90s and early 2000s. We were booping to some Spice Girls and Peaches and Cream by 112. We started off the meal with the holiday passions cocktail. This egg white bourbon and passion fruit drink was so light, we ordered 3 each throughout the meal ($14 per drink). My friend decided to order an appetizer of Kobe beef pigs in a blanket ($1.75 per bite). This was only on the bar menu, 4 bites per order, but they were accommodating and brought an order to our table. We also put in two orders of the soda bread which was more than enough for the 3 of us. The style of bread is unlike the Irish Soda bread my family makes and it did not contain raisins or caraway seeds, but the smell of buttermilk was strong and familiar. We could have stuck to one order, as one warm slice was the equivalent of eating an entire muffin. I ordered off of Restaurant Week menu ($32 for 2 choices) and went with the sweet potato lamb ragout with wilted kale and parmesan. This was extremely rich. I was only able to eat roughly half before feeling so full. The meat sauce was plentiful with chunks of meat that would pull apart and the gnocchi was prepared well. One friend ordered the Kale Caesar appetizer which was a nice size for a starter salad and was a fresh start to balance the ragout. Another friend ordered outside of the Restaurant Week menu and went for the pan roasted organic salmon which came with a side of escarole, mashed potato, and a whole mustard sauce ($28). The sauce reminded me of a gravy we put on our corned beef at St. Patrick's Day. She mentioned that the salmon was just done and it wouldn't keep if she took it home. I would allow 2 hours for the portions, but the service was fast-paced. Lastly the second half of my meal showed up! The sticky toffy pudding was warm, sticky, and sweet. The slice was much larger than I expected and was perfect for a group to share. The vanilla ice cream was more like a whipped cream that elevated the density of the dish. For $32 this is a $2 savings on the meal that I ordered which would have been $24 for the lamb ragout and $10 for the sticky toffee pudding. Hudson Hound offers both a great place to stop in and order a pint and soda bread or sit down for a meal and fun conversations. The lighting was lending towards intimate meals, but the music made it more of a party. read more

Came here for Thanksgiving dinner and really enjoyed with Prix Fix thanksgiving menu. I got the butternut squash soup as the appetizer and it was probably one the best I've had! Super fresh and creamy but not overwhelming. The bread is as also great. I got my filet mignon medium rare. It was more well done than I would have liked it but I still enjoyed it anyway. The sliced Turkey breast as also juicy and satisfying. Loved how much sides of Brussels sprouts and other vegetables we got too. Dessert was probably the best! All of them were super good. read more

If I could give this location 0 stars, I would. This review is specifically for the bar. I went to Hudson Hound as I've been wanting to try their espresso martini. I arrived at their location at 10:30 pm when on their site it says they close at 2 am. I walked up to the bar and was not acknowledged by the bar staff at all, they were all gathered at the end of the bar conversing. I walked to the end of their bar and was not greeted by their bar staff. I then said Hello, and the bartender then said Hello and said " We are only serving spritzers because it's slow and we're leaving early." Overall I understand wanting to leave early but his attitude was unnecessary. As a patron I come to enjoy my dining/bar experience. I was highly disappointed. read more

So I browsed the menu and the Full Irish Breakfast immediately caught my eye! I placed the order for pickup and they were so kind or at least they had the time to call me that my order was ready for pick-up, how sweet! Beware of parking so you really want to arrive about 15 minutes before so you can park. You can't double park around here. Anywho, I went in to pick up my food and my, it is so freaking beautiful . Too bad I didn't take any pics. It's the same layout as the restaurant before Hudson Hound but my , I love the interior, garage door on the two sides of the street, decoration and spacing of this place and their outdoor/indoor dining was beautifully set. And my interaction with the staff was quick but they are so friendly!! :) Okay now to the food. Of course the full Irish breakfast caught my eye because first it was time for breakfast. Secondly I love baked beans. We loved the Full Irish Breakfast and I liked the fish and chips; my partner not so much. Unfussy, unpretentious and neighborhood-y: just the kind of thing I like to see on Grove St. We weren't super hungry, so we shared the Soup of the Day (roasted red pepper and tomato, with extra sour bread), the Bourbon-Glazed Salmon with parsnip puree and fried kale, and a side of broccolini. I could've done without the sweetness of the parsnip puree, but everything else was made well--especially the soup. Service was fast and attentive, despite the enormous space. The place filled up quickly after 7pm, and given the plethora of families with babies, you can just tell this is a favorite neighborhood spot. The food was mediocre at best and expensive. The drinks were good but it's hard to mess up whisky in a glass and a gin and tonic. The service is weird and so slow .. and I mean slow and lost at the wheel. It was odd for such a cool looking busy place. They have trivia Wednesdays which I would totally go back for but won't order food. We went for a bit not even donner (double date 4 people). 2 orders of chicken wings, 6 drinks, an order of deviled eggs and one entrees was $290 before top. Pass by here tonight with some friends on our way somewhere else and on the way back decided to stop in for dinner. It looked very nice with outdoor seating and doors that opened completely to combine the inside and outside atmospheres. The place was not loud so we could comfortably talk through the music playing. The food was really good, as were the drinks. We started with the cheese board which was really good and not too big, but enough to share among the 4 of us. We also got some drinks, the Lady Lavender which was very light and refreshing, and a Davy Jones which was a lot stronger and not as peachy as I expected. For our entrees we went with the Irish Style Chicken Curry, the Cavatelli Pasta, and the Special Bangers & Mash. Everything was delicious and we would definitely go back. Great location in Jersey City. It's near the Grove St Station for the Path Train. Easy access from the city and certain areas in North NJ. Came through Friday night. Reservations were ample after 7 which was great. Ordered the Henry. Casamigos blanco was the base with a coconut froth of some sort and lime zest. Pretty tasty! For food, we ordered: - cheddar and scallion scones: 1/10; it was inedible and the scones lacked basic butter and was very chalky. I know a biscuit and a scone are not synonymous but this didn't do it for me - pigs n a blanket: 8/10; very flavorful, small portion - burger with cheddar: my sister ordered this and enjoyed. Portions were huge and came with fries and pickles - fish n chips: 6.5/10; i would have preferred a crispier fish however it was seasoned. Their fries were my favorite! We are here for the first to since it opened. Love the development in this neighborhood. Thank you. The four stars were mainly due to our server, Lavender. She is awesome. Friendly and attentive. As for the food, it was ok. We had the chicken pate as appetizer, two main entrees . Mussels, which I must say very generous portion, was ok and tried the chicken curry, was ok. The beers were good.
