Took my hubby to Hudson House for happy hour. We arrived right at 3pm to beat the crowd and get a good parking spot. Sat the bar to take advantage of the HH menu. I had a 2 types martinis (lemon drop and stone fruit). Both were really good. 2 different bartenders fixed the drinks. The 2nd bartender was an expert and fixed an impeccable drink while the first bartender seemed to be newly trained and didn't do as well. Stopped in for happy hour - $3 oysters and half price martinis at the bar and stayed for dinner. Also had the happy hour burger that was hearty and the kitchen cut in half for me and my friend. Added fries to the order (which were not on happy hour). Even though the bar was busy Jackie was very attentive and provided excellent service. For dinner we split the chicken parmigiana. Decent place but since they've gone viral, they have gone completely insane. They went viral for the Bellini, so they took it off the happy hour menu. THEN for the last few weeks they've been saying the patio is closed for whatever reason. And happy is only offered at the bar and patio. Today they said it was closed because it was going to rain at 5 Pm. Mind you it was extremely sunny outside, and not even that hot. I discovered Hudson House through an IG post late yesterday afternoon and I had to try it out so I rushed here for lunch today! I was drawn in by the beautiful & delicious Hudson Salad, my only wish going in was that the salad tasted as good as it looked and let me tell you, it certainly was!! The chicken was seasoned & cooked perfectly, the avocado was precisely ripened, the salad base was crisp & fresh and the bacon was thick-cut & oh so crispy!! I thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that I was full midway but it was so good I kept eating! (no regrets) The parm truffle fries are easily my new favorite truffle fries EVER!! I've been to Hudson House once before and I absolutely love the salads. However, this time I came in for happy hour and I wanted to try that lobster roll that everyone is always raving about. So, happy hour is only in the bar and the bar area but then they also do this weird thing where they reserve the bar area for large parties coming in due to the layout of the restaurant being all booths. So when we arrived at 5 and tables in the bar area were getting up by 5:15, they were telling us that the bar area was reserved for 6 PM reservations. We asked them if they could honor the happy hour in the section that we were in since we couldn't sit in an open and available table that was in the bar area and they wouldn't. Just left a bad taste in our mouth because that's not good hospitality. Lobster roll was just eh and fries could have used salt--no aioli. Ok my friend had a dinner party they excused majority of the groups tartiness which was greatly appreciated. We seen social media influencers post about the lobster roll we had to try and I was gonna get the redfish both was sold out. That's the only reason. A few friends recommended I check out Hudson House. I decided to stop in for happy hour on my way home. There were a few seats open at the bar which was great. You can only order the happy hour menu at the bar. Parking was easy, they have a big lot in front which was safe to park in. You do have to pay through the park and pay app though. I ordered the frozen Bellini and half dozen oysters and crispy rice to start. Bellini went down easy and they are strong here! Oysters were also good. Crispy rice was excellent. I was still a little hungry so I ordered the Hudson salad. It came out looking beautiful. I asked if the kitchen could mix it for me. They gave me a strange look but were able to accommodate my request which was nice. I knew I'd make a mess trying to mix it on my own and I was trying to get a little work down on my computer while ending my day so it was nice I didn't have to worry about getting it everywhere. I was able to eat about half. Next time I would try a different entree. All in all a decent place and a good happy hour offering. Next time I think I'll try the burger. read more

If you're lucky enough to snag JayLynn, she's on top of her game. Younger, happenin (?) River Oaks crowd than our typical outside the Loop vibe, sliding over from Brassiere 19 next door. We'll need to try their margaritas, lime martinis next time. No fresh squeezed grapefruit or orange juices but lemonade did the trick. Lastly, hot french press coffee and chocolate mousse cake for dessert hit the spot. n.b. they do not serve / have bread (unless you'd like a toasted hamburger bun). Please read through...it definitely gets better. Thus far upon sitting at the bar the service has been slow, took 5+ minutes to even get acknowledged even with no one besides me at the bar. Another patron came up and quickly got acknowledged, but she also mentioned they are sitting at a table behind me and no one has even came to their table for service so she came to the bar to get drinks. Well once we received attention everything on was on the up & up. I had heard somewhere that this place had a great burger and I seem mac & cheese on the menu so it was a no brainer for me. Although there looked to have some other good options as well, I did see some sushi on the menu, but I'm a little skeptical on ever ordering that. While waiting on food I relaxed, sadly watching a rerun of the previous days Astros loss, lets put something else on please! In the background I did enjoy some old school rhythm & blues music from the 60s/70s era. Was definitely a nice touch. My food arrived and I was surprised at the presentation of the burger, it looked like it was made with love, perfectly stacked. It had a great meat to bread ratio as well. And the mac had a wonderful golden brown char on top. Both dishes were amazing, could say literally one of the best burgers I have ever had. Id say maybe an onion addition for the crunch would have been the only thing I would have added, but the flavor and the juiciness was outstanding, with every bite i had to wipe my face. Also the bread held to the last bite. Which is not what you see in a lot of double meat burgers. The mac, crazy cheese pull, though after i took the first bite i seen a liquid puddle of cheese near the bottom and thought once I got the top layer down there would be no use for it, I was wrong. This dish uses spiral noodles to help dig up all that cheesy goodness, it wasn't watery, it was thick like a good queso dip. I don't know how I could go to this place next time and not order the best damn burger I have had in a while and it was a good cost. 1) Parking. You have to pay. Also the parking thing charged me for 30 minutes so I had to call and talk to someone who had a terrible connection and we battled through our conversation. Ended up having to pay for parking again for two hours at $2.56 which is okay and then she refunded me after I provided her the confirmation. Pain in the butt. 2). Open Table reservation. Easy and had a table ready for us. We also came at 11. 3). Service. Super great and nice and efficient 4) Cleanliness: Didn't take any pictures because I was having lunch with this person for the first time and it was disgusting. Okay, not the restaurant but the menu they handed me had at least three different items smeared on it including food and sauces. Gross. 5) Food: Food was okay. I've only ordered from this on DoorDash and after going I think I'll stick with DoorDash. We walked in on a Sunday at 1PM and we had no reservation and there were plenty of empty tables. They told us they couldn't seat us until there other reservations arrived. And we were the only ones waiting... it was 1:15pm and then i check online and they have reservations for the entire upcoming hour so i chose 1:30 since clearly we were waiting while there was 5 empty tables. The lady comes back and I told her we now have a reservation can we be seated and then she said no worries they'll now seat us. So essentially we waited for "reservations" to show up when only one showed up... For the brunch menu it was extremely SMALL & even their original lunch menu itself was small. Appetizer options are limited and very minimal. They had an option for deviled eggs. Not my style or cup of tea tbh for an appetizer. The waiter didn't ask us either if it was our first time here so we had to kind of explore the menu ourselves. I had to ask him what he recommends or is the most popular and he said the burger, chicken parm and some other dish. I got the chicken parm and it was delish! The sauce was a bit thick and the chicken was huge covered my entire plate. Overall the food was decent! My husband got the red fish and he loved it. However the entire time we were eating our food we never got checked on & our waters refilled and didn't get asked if we wanted a second Aperol spritz. It was a slow Sunday brunch so most waiters were super laid back and relaxed which made sense why we never got checked on after we got our food. This restaurant is definitely overhyped due to its location. It's for sure the Applebees of the River oaks. This is an open, hideaway that I'm just finding out about. Went here last weekend with my neighbor who frequents this place. I had to let her know, "Honey scoot on over because I'll be coming through more often" We went during brunch time. They offer the brunch menu and the regular menu. This weekend it just so happen to having a sponsor St. Germain in there. They were giving out samples of their drinks. It was a pleasant welcoming. I can't quite give this place a 5 as there were some mishaps, but the manager came quickly to resolve it. Service was great, Chase was very attentive. I learned not to be the one to complain about my food. She came to our table to ask how things were and my neighbor just told her the truth. The pancakes were a bit dry and the fries were cold. They remade the pancakes and it was perfect. As far the fries they were also remade. They are shoe string fries (parmesean truffle fries). I think because they are so skinny, they get cold faster. I wouldn't mind having thicker fries because of this. The best roll was my favorite. It was so so fresh! The fish taco is huge. So huge that it is a burrito and not a taco. I was not aware that there was a Hudson House in Houston, as I know there's one in Dallas/Addison, that I love to dine at. Automatically I knew that this was the place to quench that thirst!!! A friend and I met up to start the day off right on a beautiful Saturday morning. We chose to sit at the bar, because, why not! We both started with the espresso martini, and after perusing the menu, decided upon the Steak Frites, which is one of my favorite things to eat in this world. I ordered med-rare, it was cooked to perfection along with the deliciously seasoned truffle fries that your girl was craving! As the phone of course ate first, as soon as that first slither of the knife cascaded through the steak like butter, silence ensued the course of the meal! Every bite was just melt in your mouth, and paired with the salty trufflness of the fries was just yes, yes, and more yes!!! We ate here in late July, and it was incredible! Loved the somewhat throwback east coast vibe inside, the noise level was perfect, and there was ample parking. Food: The food here was incredible ranked chronologically: 1. Oysters These were incredible, somewhat on the larger side and very rich. Some oysters fall into the category of being too briny, or relying on a high salt brine flavor to make you think they are good. These were not the case. Lots of oyster meat and an almost creamy taste. We wish we had gotten more than 6. 2. Tuna Sticky Rice This was good, but not great. The piece itself is a bit awkward to eat, as it's just bigger than your mouth, so you can either monster bite, or cut it in half. The sauce was like a normal ponzu with a bit of cream, and the jalapeno added a nice bit of fresh heat. The tuna wasn't too seafoody but not quite like a "melt in your mouth" otoro. 3. Best Roll This truly was the best. It is a mix of salmon and tuna wrapped around some crunchy filling. The fish on the outside prevents a large mess while eating, and the texture is elite. The fish melts and reconstitutes with the crunchy interior, we wish we had gotten a second. 4. Chicken with Skinny Fries This was thin slices of chicken in a mildly creamy sauce with some skinny fries. The skinny fries were very good, high surface area of fried bits to an interior potato ratio for a crunchy bite, but not soaked in grease. The chicken was in a mildly creamy cajun sauce, but it was not too creamy. I am lactose intolerant, and my stomache did not react to this sauce at all. That said, the chicken was a bit drier, however, since it is thinly sliced, the sauce can pretty easily mask it. Service: The servers were very attentive and made sure we never had any empty plates or long wait periods. We were seated immediately and our drinks came out fast. We were in and out within 60 minutes. Ambiance: Inside almost feels like a daytime speakeasy meets restaurant vibe. There is alot of fun art and pictures on the wall, and there is a moderate noise level, but not too loud. There is bar seating as well, but it looked a little tight. My daughter brought me here, and it was just horrible. I do not rank restaurants poorly unless I absolutely feel the need. It is too over priced for mediocre food. My daughter had a salad with chicken nuggets, and the nuggets had absolutely no flavor. The salad was actually very standard. The appetizer for four jumbo shrimp was over 20 dollars and the shrimp was already too old and still had fecal matter on it. The waiter was never around even though we sat near the serving station. Water was not provided, there is no bread provided and condiments are not provided. Oh get this, a butter knife to cut my chicken. I had to ask for a knife. No lemon is provided on your tea! Many things that I am provided for were non existent at this place. Not worth it. Its the location you pay for. I would drive to another place that has phenomenal food even if you pay a hefty price. Our first comment on the famous burger is that it taste pretty much just like McDonald's just better quality beef. I like the Hudson salad with the house vinaigrette but the chicken is really honestly unseasoned even with the spicy seasoning they put on top. I arrived for good food and fun but left with an injury due to the restaurants negligence. They have an extremely dangerous and unmarked step that leads into the dining area. It is a dark colored step with no tape or markings highlighting that it's there. There are small signs on the wall, but they are barely noticeable as they are gold and do not stand out. It is further made unsafe by host staff and patrons standing directly in front of the step and signage due to the small entryway. After I tripped over it (because I didn't see it), fell on my knee and into a passing waitress, I asked why the step is not clearly marked. I was told by the manager that they "train their staff really well to tell people about the step" but that clearly didn't work in my case. I was given an ice bag for my knee by the manager but she never came to check on me after that. And for those wondering, no, they didn't comp my meal. Never going back. read more

The food was excellent. The service was a zero. The waiter was rude & condescending. When he brought out our food items he flung them on the table, spilled oyster juice. He didn't ever ask how the food was, he was visibly annoyed, at what, I'm not sure. We stayed within the 90 minute restriction. If not for the terrible service I would definitely want to return to try some of the other dishes. The food & interiors were great. Service was abysmal.
