They were really efficient and the food comes out fairly quickly. Not all menu items were available but we went with the Mango Romance ( basically a sampler of everything) and the Mango Coconut Duo. At around $8 an item, I was pretty disappointed in the portion sizes of the to go containers. It definitely is smaller than the online menu pictures and the display at the front of the store. They made up for it with mango flavorbomb desserts. The desserts were not too sweet and perfectly refreshing for the summer. I have been wanting to try out this place since I heard it opened. So happy to know it was next door to where we were having lunch so we hopped on over after lunch. It was busy but no lines. The menu was slightly complicated because we had many that couldn't do dairy in the group and many who have not been here nor tried anything remotely close to the items listed. We took our time but a line was forming so we had to be quick. We called the worker behind the counter and she was nice and helpful telling us there are essentially 4 desserts that are dairy free. The rest has milk. Oh well busting out the lactose pills lol We ordered, 3 drinks all dairy free. The mango passion fruit and passion fruit green tea. Not sure they liked it. They said it was to thick and the passionfruit seeds were hard to not swallow. And the goo gel clumped in the bottom making it hard to drink. Another person also ordered their mango special that had a little mix of everything. Idk if they thought we said to go but everything was packaged so cutely. The ice cream was ok. The goo clump again was unique and odd lol reminded me of snot. The mochi was mochi. I got the rice balls and taro in milk. It tasted like coconut milk. I wonder if it was because in that case it's really not dairy. I am a big rice balls fan and make my own. I was disappointed because the rice balls weren't soft. How can they make that wrong? It was edible just not gooey soft like I like it. The taro too was good but couple were not done and in huge chunks and too hard. The sago in milk was good but everything is just so small. For the price it felt too small. All our deserts costed nearly $50 and that's because the payee accidentally pressed 18% tip. That seemed way too high a tip since they just pretty much brought out or dished out the desserts not sure if they were the ones making them all in the back by hand. Anyways I am glad I tried and wish I can give them more stars. But felt the price didn't justify the product at least what we ordered and had. I'm not a mango person but a recent visit on a hot summer day changed my mind. It's a somewhat small dessert joint, with friendly staff and a giant menu dedicated almost entirely to mango themed desserts. I tried the dessert with the coconut noodles. Now that Hui Lau Shan has had their grand opening, I am excited to visit again! I arrived at 4 PM (at the start of soft opening time) and there was already a long line of patrons waiting for their mango treats. They have some desserts on display near the front glass so you can get excited to place your order. Inside the store, there were a couple of tables and couch areas but since I went while it was still soft opening the seats were packed already. There was also some complimentary lemon infused water that I took advantage of as soon as I was able to squeeze into the store. Their mangos were very fresh and it was exciting for me to see a massive bowl of pre cut mangos ready for them to use. I got the Mango Romance (the "sampler" menu item) and my favorite was definitely the mochi. I got the mango & coconut sago drink, which was my go to. It was great! The mango is perhaps a little less good than in HK, but that's honestly an impossible bar here in the US. But the mango chunks in my drink were perfectly ripe and sweet. I wonder how they will maintain that throughout the year. My only complaint is that the drink seems to be quite a bit colder here than what I had in HK. Normally I love cold but the problem is that it makes the sago harden up after a few minutes, affecting texture. So maybe don't mix the drink fully and mix in the sago only as you are about to drink it? Tbf, I've noticed this issue in other mango dessert shops in the US. I also got the durian black glutinous rice (opted for the cold version). Loved this too! The rice was perfectly "not too sweet" and I was very happy with how much durian there was (you can't see in the picture well -- what's showing is just the tip). If that's not your cup of tea, then it's probably best to order and walk outside since they have outdoor seating. The indoor seating is nice but again, it's pretty packed and people showed up in larger groups which took most of the seating. This place is currently (as of 6/11/2024) undergoing a soft opening, currently open only after 4pm. They seem to only be serving a portion of their menu. When you take a physical menu, there will be stickers covering the items that they are not serving. However, if you opt to read their menu from the display screens above, there will be no such indication that certain items are not available. This place is counter serve. You order at the register. After you pay, they will provide a numbered pager that will alert you when your order is ready for retrieval. If you wish to sit, there exists a small seating area between the window display case and the cashier. If you are looking for bathrooms, those are down the hallway. It's pretty clear certain items are pre-made. You can see them in the refrigerated display case by the cashier, along with a very sad "mango of the month". Their mango mochi is an example of a pre-made item. It comes in a 6-pack, with each mochi topped with some coconut, and the internals filled with mango. I ordered one of those. I also ordered an "Egg Waffle with Mango Ice Cream" (item C13), but it seemed they did not have that item available. I decided to go with the mango romance, which appears to be some type of sampler. It has some mango, some mango ice cream, some clear gelatin-like substance, a mango mochi, and mango pudding? jelly? purée? with white balls. The most tasteful item was the mango mochi. The remaining items were not overly sweet, nor were they particularly mangoey. In fact, they were rather bland: just imagine the taste of cold, canned mangoes. I mean, I don't think they use canned mangoes, but I can't say they are serving fresh mangoes either. They have clearly been sitting in a fridge or cold room for a while. If you want mangoes, you'll have better luck going to a grocery store, picking out a nice, ripe, fragrant mango and preparing it yourself at home. It'll be more succulent, fresher, and more sweet (or more sour), and definitely more mangoey than what they present to you at this establishment. I'd recommend slicing off the sides, cutting small cubes, then simply scooping with a spoon. However, it's nice to know they have a batch of ice water with lemon in it, along with plastic cups, to aid your hydration. Another note: the spoon packaging is odd. So, I think you open them like toothpaste--squeeze at the bottom and the rounded part of the spoon will come out at the top. read more

I freaking love mangoes, and I love Hui Lau Shan. I've only been to the Houston location, and it made me so sad that only Houston had HLS. However, my hometown of Dallas and my current home both opened locations!! I'm so happy. There are huge lines every day at HLS. I thought the hype and craze would die down after a week, but nope. There are still lines out the door every evening. Fortunately, my friends and I came at the perfect time and there was only a super long line after us. We waited for about 20-25 minutes? The line moved fast and we got our order quickly. I highly recommend getting: - taro sago - ask for it hot! I love the little tangyuan balls, and the sago + taro are so good. It reminds me of a really popular Chinese dessert soup - mango pomelo sago drink - they put so many toppings in. If you like mango then you this is a good place to get your mango fix. We really enjoyed the desserts and drink as they were not overly sweet. I came here on a Thursday during their soft opening at around 7:30pm and had to wait about 40 mins. Although there was no line outside, there was a fairly long queue inside (they moved all the chairs and table to the side to form a line). At Hui Lau Shan, you can find mango pudding, mango smoothies, mango mochis, if you haven't realized, the possibilities are endless. Personally, I'm a fan of fresh fruit in its simplest form--cut and plain-- no added seasonings or enhancements, which is disappointing as Hui Lau Shan doesn't offer just plain mango slices!! After hearing so much hype around Hui Lau Shan, I was excited to try their Mango Chewy Ball dessert. The fresh mango taste was there, though it wasn't as sweet as I'd hoped, and the chewy balls had a texture that didn't quite hit the mark for me. It was a small portion considering the price, but I'm curious enough to come back and try more of their mango-based treats. There's not a lot of seating inside but there's a patio with more tables. The line stretched out the door, so it's definitely popular, but for me, it was a bit overhyped. Worth another visit, though, to explore more of their offerings! read more

Finally got the chance to try out this new Asian dessert restaurant now that it's been opened for a few months now, and I loved every bite of my Mango Delightful Trio! As a kid who grew up in an Asian household eating treats that weren't comprised of tons of sugar, I really appreciated this snack because most of the sweetness came directly from the mango itself rather than added sugars! The tapioca balls were so chewy and fresh and complimented well with both the mango slices and ice cream. If you love mango, this place will be like heaven for you with all their mango-centric snacks and items! Since the treats aren't super sweet, I finished eating the snack feeling refreshed (especially during a hot TX summer) rather than feeling like I was on a sugar high. I guess the winter season doesn't help the mangoes since they tasted a little sour, and the prices were quite expensive for the portions. Overall, I'm glad to see the delicious menu items I grew up loving, but I would stick to coming here during actual mango season and not compare it to the chains in Asia! read more
