Through my experiences this place so far has one of the largest California rolls and the crabmeat in it is very good and soft and it doesn't taste fake. My family has been loyal customers of Hunan Joy for almost 10 years now. Whenever we do not know what to have for dinner we pull up their number on speed dial and ask for our usual order...sesame chicken, veggie fried rice, chicken lo mein, beef and broccoli, sezchuan green beans, sweet and sour chicken, and a few egg rolls. I find myself craving the sesame chicken frequently, it is so delicious and well prepared. Honestly, the food is just as good the next day reheated and there is always a family feud about who gets to finish the leftovers. The service is consistently friendly and welcoming, the food is always ready quickly, and the prices are very reasonable. We have tried many different Chinese restaurants in the area and this one remains our favorite! Ordered from here last night the food was delicious! We did delivery and it came really fast like in about 20 minutes it seemed. I ordered General Tso's and the combo meal came with the entrée, rice, egg roll, AND soup which isn't typical. The egg roll was extra crispy how I like it. Got our food to go. The shrimp and broccoli definite had miles of broccoli and few shrimp but the shrimp were tasteless so did not really matter! The pan fried dumplings were hard and almost impossible to even cut with a knife. The Chesapeake roll was not anything I'd order again. It was dry and just weird. The general tso chicken was good. I've been here several times and I think they have really good fresh Chinese food. It is pricier than other carry out places though. When you get a lunch or dinner combination platter; it comes with white rice or fried rice. Their fried is just fried rice no vegetables. Other carry outs fried rice is with vegetables. So you will have to pay extra to get vegetable fried rice. Also their 6 piece wings are actually 6 small wingette pieces not whole wings. We've lived in Catonsville for 4 years now and just recently discovered Hunan Joy. Very non-descript building on the corner of Edmondson and Winters Lane, but don't let that fool you. The food is delicious and this is our go-to place for oriental food, even though we have other options that are closer. The Orange Chicken has a good solid flavor with lots of fresh broccoli. The shrimp with lobster sauce is loaded with shrimp and I get extra snow peas. Heavenly! The shrimp toast is to die for and the house fried rice is full of a variety of meat and seafood. The won ton soup is the only negative, in my opinion. The broth has a greasy taste and although it's packed with noodles, there are almost no pork shreds or green onion bits. I do love that you can place your order, sit out in your car and within 10 minutes they are bringing it out to you. Very friendly people! read more
