Came here for dinner. This place is quiet and not busy. Friendly service and prompt. Food came out timely with care. The ambiance is casual and well lit. This is a return visit and recommend this place for a Chinese food.

We were in the neighborhood and decided to give this restaurant a try. This is not a traditional Chinese restaurant as they include a green salad with their lunch daily lunches. The menu is very extensive with many options so it will suit a wide variety of tastes. First off, it's great that they offer brown rice as an option (and at a slight cost). The Kung Pao Tofu tasted very good. Although untraditional, it was kind of nice to have a green salad to balance the spiciness. The Kung Pao Chicken (mild) was tasty but needed a bit of salt. Lastly, we wanted Hong Kong style noodles with eggplant. It's not on the menu but they were accommodating. As you can see in the photo, the eggplant pieces were huge. The quantity of food was good but it was a bit of a messy plate. Oh, they provided a bowl of hot and sour soup with all of the lunches. It was more sour than hot and just OK. If in a bind, this is probably a safe place to visit. However, it may be worth driving a bit to Chinatown to get something more authentic.

Great quality Chinese food without the added salt or grease. I took a gamble on this place for a weekend dinner and they came through. Food was prepared nicely and arrived hot. This restaurant definitely came though and gained a return customer.

Great family owned business. We like to come here after our workout at the gym. Portions are good and food is delicious.

It's a very typical Chinese food restaurant, that's not a good thing or bad. I talked to some people that been going there for 30 years. With all the options for Chinese food in the area that's saying something. It did remind me of one of my favorite Chinese restaurants, food was basically the same, which was good. Service was very prompt and available. I love the location of the restaurant up the hill off 35th next to Safeway. I enjoyed my food yes, just not over excited. Can't always hit a home run, but dang it, you can try haha.

I love coming here for lunch. Almost everytime I come I see someone I know. We came for a large luncheon this time. We had trays off chicken fried rice, chow mean, broccoli beef, Tofu and veggies and orange chicken. Everything was delicious as usual and the servers are always kind and helpful. I love the way the sun shines so brightly throughout the restaurant. See you all again soon. Thank you

A very typical non authentic Chinese restaurant. We ordered their lunch special (garlic chicken wings and beef and tofu with garlic bean sauce) that came with a small bowl of hot and sour soup and salad. Both were pretty tasty. The next table ordered sweet and sour pork which looked really good. Next time I'll order that.

    Chow fun

Are any of their dishes gluten-free?

They are open for lunch How do we tell Yelp so the hours can be corrected?

Does anyone know the name of the son's restaurant in Pleasanton/Dublin? We loved everything about the style of dishes. Hoping he offers similar food. He gave me a business card a while ago but I've misplaced it.

They are going to re-open I spoke to one of the previous workers about a month ago and she bought the restaurant from the original owners the cook and several staff will be remaining when they re-open hopefully sometime in the next few weeks.

If anybody finds out what is going on please let us know we love the spot doesn't seem like they're going to reopen?

They are not going to reopen. The landlord jacked up the rent to an untenable amount, so it's just not doable for them.… Read more

This time, we ordered a few dishes to try - the classic sesame paste noodles, Shan Dong chicken, the fried rice with shrimp, and the hot spicy eggplant. Since we did order delivery on a busy Saturday night, it took a little over an hour for our food to arrive. The food was expertly packed and we were given plenty of utensils and napkins. The sesame paste noodles are one of my favorite dishes here, there's a balance of sweet and salty offered in the creamy sesame paste sauce that's so addicting. I've always been a big fan of the hand-pulled noodles which are thick, bouncy and chewy. The Shan Dong chicken is deep fried and coated in a delicious sauce. It is more of the sweeter side if you're looking for something that's spicy. I appreciate that we were given large pieces as well! The fried rice with shrimp is amazing - I love the crunch of the green onion, the softness of the fried egg, and the texture of the rice and veggies which weren't soggy and still held a nice bite. Last but not least, the hot spicy eggplant was a great choice because it's usually the trickier dish to cook as eggplant can turn really soft and mushy. I was delighted that with the way it was prepared, the large eggplant pieces still held a tender texture that did not fall apart. I also enjoyed the sauce that was paired with the eggplant, which is oyster-sauce based and added a pleasant sweetness as well. I'm always looking forward to my next visit and I love supporting Shan Dong!

They close super early, so get there in time for take out for dinner (I think they close at like 6?) Parking is an actual nightmare unless you're willing to pay or walk. But that's China Town for you. Service is fast and friendly. I like that they let me practice my Mandarin. It can feel a little crowded at times, but that's the price you pay for really good food.

Getting right to it, 4 stars because it's so affordable! However, there are some things I want to…read morepoint out that would actually make this spot more of a 3 star visit. 1. The attached parking garage charges $2/every half hour. Granted, this is no where near SF parking rates, it's still an additional fee. Street parking is super hard to find, and the streets are hectic, but you can test your luck (and patience). They use little tokens now that you have to pay for before exiting. Make sure you hold onto it because a lost token will run you $48 for the day rate. 2. The spot is poppin. It's not a complaint, that's a great thing! However it's really small inside so if there's a wait, you do have to line up in a single file line along a divider wall, where you can watch diners eat. Right next to you is the take out line for BBQ orders. It can get really claustrophobic. Tables do move fast as they're quick to bring out food, however you may be asked to just share a table with someone else. They have a couple round tables for the communal dining, or larger groups (up to 8). This is an ideal spot for 2-4 people. 6+ may cause you to wait longer for seating. 3. The tap water tastes kind of weird. They bring you a hot cup of tea too but the herbal taste is a bit too strong for me. 4. The bbq items are just okay :( I did a 3 item bbq combo with rice for about $21. You get a generous portion of meat, rice and a few pieces of steamed Chinese broccoli (gai lan). No sauce to dip or anything, but they do have a black bean sauce on the table to use. The sauce is pretty salty though, so just keep that in mind when you're adding it on. No spicy condiments on the table unfortunately. The duck was decent, but the bbq pork was a bit too lean for me. It wasn't overly sweet though so that was nice. The roast pork wasn't crunchy at all!! For some reason, they thin sliced it, instead of cut it into cubes. I love roast pork for the crunch so this was disappointing. The skin was more chewy than crunchy. All of the meats were tender though! 5. Fresh shrimp rice roll was hot and steamy and the price is cheaper than some dim sum spots ($7.50 for this one i think). However, you also get less shrimp. The sauce poured on was also kinda thin, and not sweet or umami enough. The rice roll itself had a good chew though, silky but a little thick. It holds up well while eating. The proportion go shrimp to rice noodle is waaaay off though. 6. Wonton noodle soup was good! This seemed like the crowd favorite as most everyone ordered this. The noodle could have had a bit more chew to it, but the wontons were bouncy and the broth comforting. You get a couple pieces of chinese broccoli with this too which is nice. The service was efficient and our main server was nice. She spoke english and actually smiled back. They take card payment too, so that's convenient. You really get some bang for your buck here, but I'd probably stick to taking food to go.

You know a dish is good when you tell yourself, "Oh, I'm just going to try a little bit of this."…read moreAnd then you can't stop eating it. This was my experience with pretty much every dish I ordered on a recent trip to Yu Yu Za Zang. I'll admit this is one of those places I've walked or driven past for years and have always meant to try but just never got around to it. But I finally had an opportunity to drag my cousin/regular dining buddy with me. We ordered Yang Jang Pi (also known as Double Skin in some places), regular jajang (spelled zazang here) myun, and tang sue yuk (beef - which is the traditional Korean meat for this dish). My cousin and I are huuuuuge fans of the Double Skin at Great China in Berkeley, so the Double Skin here had a pretty high bar to reach. We were pleasantly surprised to find it more than held its own. The portions of everything were very generous, and the mustard dressing was nice and spicy. Perhaps the veggies were not quite as crunchy as Great China's, so not as much of a variety of textures, but this Yang Jang Pi was still delicious, and I still think about it days after our visit. The jajang (zazang) myun was also very generously portioned and pretty tasty. I haven't had any in Oakland in a while, so hard to say how it compares, but I would definitely eat it again. The beef tang sue yuk was incredible. Again, large portion, perfectly crispy outside, tender beef inside, and one of the best sweet and sour sauces I've ever had with this dish. The vibe is simple and clean; nothing fancy, but I went for the food, so I was fine with that. The service was also friendly and fast. There were barely any people there on a Saturday evening, which made me sad, because the food really is good. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. They also have soju and beer. Although Hanshin Pocha next door is popular, I could see Yu Yu Za Zang being a decent spot for delicious, very reasonably priced food that one can share with friends while having a couple of rounds of drinks. And in this economy, aren't we all looking for a good deal?
