Definitely a stop on the Saco, ME visit list. get the fired clams and clam cakes. Whomba!!! I was living in Saco for a couple of months and was dying for some really good seafood. Wanted steamers, clams, shrimp, you name it. I drove down the road and there were several bars, stores, ice cream parlors and restaurants. EVERYTHING was closed for winter :(. I was so sad. But May came finally came around. I was itching to try these places. I was like crack-head in a police locker, "there's just so much, I don't know where to begin!" Well, I went here. I've lived in Saco my whole life and gone to Huots every summer. I usually get the clam cakes which are Yes, the best. I decided to get a clam dinner instead. Ordered 3 clam cakes and two clam dinners for $70.61 first I was shocked at the price of the clam dinners but more so when I got it home. I wasn't asked if I needed condiments by either person, cashier or gal giving me my order. I heard the guy next to me in the next window get asked. I'm a little sad we didn't try this place sooner. It was walking distance from our rental. From the outside, it looks like an old warf-side diner, but its light and cheery inside. The bar is great with a couple of large screen TVs if you just want a cold beer or cocktail before dinner. Definitely recommend the onion rings. We also had. Lobster roll and the fried haddock. Eaten here a couple of times.....for me, the fried clams are the star of this show....delicious....lightly breaded, perfectly fried, not oily or over cooked...the clams were plentiful and came out hot....which made their juicy texture even better....large tartar sauce container also.....very good...my mom got a second small order...they were that good... My lobster roll was decent...toasted and buttered roll....the lobster was plentiful....but nude....I prefer my lobster roll premixed with mayo....I added a bit on the side.... The crab meat salad looked great...it had an abundance of lump crab and was a healthy option that had good value for the price... The stuffed clam appetizer also looked very generously portioned.....two very large shells stuffed with clams and lightly breaded and seasoned Full bar service....lots of booth and table seating...and parking right across the street....fun spot..... 4 stars read more

Service was fantastic. We had the nicest waitress who was patient with my grump grandpa and able to handle our large group of 10 very well. She had great drink recommendations and was eager to explain any dish. Pretty much everything is fried here, so if you dont want awesome fried fish and fries you might have more of a challenge finding something here. I ordered fried clams, they were my first fried clams and they were great as well as a crab roll. The crab roll wasnt too heavy and had minimal shell in it. I would have loved to try so many other things on the menu, but I guess that will have to be for my next trip to Saco. Also there is a beautiful pier with an amazing view right around the corner. Now that I've been to Huot's a few more times, I've learned to avoid the pickled beets and the fried clams. The broiled shrimp scampi is good, though I always wish the shrimp was cooked just a bit more and it was actually shrimp scampi, but it's tasty and the rice pilaf that it's on is reasonably good. The scallops look very good and people who like scallops are happy with them, but I'm not a scallop lover. read more

Just about everything is good to very good. But the clam cakes are why I rate it a 5. I know, they are just clam cakes. But I have been eating them since I was a kid and they are as good today as they were when my grandfather and father used to bring here in the 70's. Found this restaurant on bringfido.com because it was dog friendly with outside seating and we wanted Seafood. Website said overlooking Saco Bay..not true. Website says same take out menu as inside..not true. We ordered clams, scallops ala cart, onions rings & lobster stew. Bad lobster stew; lobster pieces (a decent amount)in very buttery milk, little flavor. Terrible onion rings; very heavy batter, tasteless. Clams were just okay, could've been cooked longer. Scallops had good flavor..a little more grease than I'd prefer, but overall good. Tarter sauce was Kraft packaged. You would expect homemade from a 40 year old restaurant. Overall disappointed in NOT having great seafood overlooking the Bay. We will not be back. Update: less than an hour later, both my husband and I feel ill. Too much grease!! read more

Have been loyal patrons for two decades. Visited in May 2021. Prices way up, quality and quantity way down. Ordered two haddock chowders, haddock sandwich, and haddock dinner. My chowder contained A LOT of black potatoes. The haddock DINNER contained nothing more than a piece of haddock smaller than the piece in my sandwich and a BABY scoop of warm cole slaw. That Dinner was $14. Outrageous! Tried to contact as instructed via website. The website is a joke. Submitted concern with photo. No response. Went back June 2021 to order AND relay last experience. You can't place orders over phone any longer. MUST be done on website (not possible when driving) or at window. Showed server the pic of the black potatoes. No reaction. So I inquired if they felt I should be comped for a chowder (just take it off today's order). She went in kitchen to ask. Owner came out with a $10 bill and handed it to us merely saying, "there you go" and walked off. No interest in seeing what we had been served previously, no apology, nothin! Didn't care. We ended up having a discussion, but it is obvious we really didn't matter. So sorry to say, we will never go back. Look at my picture. We finally ate in! My parents came to Maine, and they wanted lobster; however, my parents dislike the process of actually shelling their own lobster. The solution? Huot's Lazy Man's Lobster. They bring you a crock of butter with a lobster already out of its shell, just waiting to be devoured. My parents were absolutely thrilled and loved their meal. My husband got his usual fried clams and scallops. I tried the fried jumbo butterfly shrimp. They were so good. I love shrimp, and I've found my new go to meal at Huot's. The service was efficient and pleasant, and the atmosphere was bright without feeling garish. Light blue and white paint lent the space an airy, seaside feel. A family member and I ordered our meal to go and we ate it else ware on 8/01/21. My meal was just edible, but not delicious like it was the last time I went a few weeks before. The meal my family member had of fried clams was not edible. They were burnt and hard. Also, her clam chowder tasted like milk. The lid went back on that after one spoonful. I decided that the following day I would drive back to get a refund. I went back the next day, 24 hours and 45 minuets after the time on the receipt. This is what I found. A closed restaurant with a sign that said we shut early due to being out of food. I looked around the outside to see if some one was lurking inside. I also tried the front door. This seamed to be sufficient any thing further is stockerish. Today 8/06/2021 I went back and spoke to the hostess. She was polite and said she needed management for this. I said that is cool. Management came out and said "what seems to be the problem? I started to explain the whole story. Before I could finish a whole sentence she cut me off, and said can I have the quick version. I was cut of multiple times while trying to explain. I had to explain the same things multiple times because of this. She then decided to give me a refund just to get me out. She also spoke of how busy she was. Also she wanted to know why I returned this item long after fact. This was after she explained that she was closed on the day I came back and the day after that. I want to know how is this that much later if this restaurant was closed for those days. What a poor way a poor way to treat customers. Never will I go back. Also, please take into consideration the amount of gas used in going back to your institution multiple times. When this woman spoke of how busy she is I got the impression that she is more import than her customers. I bought the food on 8/1. I went back on 8/2. They were closed on 8/2 and on 8/3. On 8/4 and 8/5 I was busy. On 8/06 I returned again. Customers have lives to. I arrived both one and three business days later. If this woman took a moment to think she would realize this. Good luck treating the customers like dirt! This lady was also displeased that I did not try harder to find her inside a shut and unlit business. She said that she was there upstairs until eleven pm. This was also after she said they were closed that day. Make up your mind, are you closed or are you there. And, why would I do more than try the door and peak inside the window. She claimed to be upstairs. Is she inviting trespassers? I would do no more that try the door and peak in the window. How am I supposed to find her up stairs? What is she thinking? If you are in Maine and want seafood then Huot's needs to be your destination. For starters you can throw a rock and hit the ocean from your seat at the table. Certainly you can't beat the location and you know the food is fresh. The fish is outstanding, on this trip I had the baked Haddock and it was superb. Well cooked with lots of butter and a delicious crust that enhanced without getting in the way. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. Started our family vacation here for lunch. Very accommodating ,there were 14 of us. Fried scallops were delicious and my crabmeat salad was also. We have been coming to Huots for years and they have been great. However under the new owners there was disappointment with tonight's meals. First the clam cake recipe has changed and not for the better. The clam cakes were very dry and not as rich in flavor. They were simply coated with a crumb like batter and tasted bland. They did have clams in it which does beat most of the local seafood places. The clam cakes were simply NOT as good. Please bring back the ORIGiNAL recipe!!! The other disappoint was the haddock sandwich. The price has increased to that of past dinners but the piece of haddock was near half the size of earlier portions. This is enough of a change in a negative direction for my wife and I to consider moving on to another local seafood place. So SAD , after years of going to Huots it looks like we need to move on. I feel the prices you pay for the portion you receive is slightly higher than their competitors at pine point. Must admit though the food is very good however. Went Friday night and had their haddock sandwich and onion rings with a clamcake. All three were absolutely excellent. Clamcake was the best that I've ever had. Wife had the clam dinner which she thought was excellent as well. The location is quaint. You can take a walk down the private street behind the restaurant and walk towards the ocean and go out on the jetty which is fun. We will be back. read more

Busy spot down in Camp Ellis. Seasonal. Highly recommend the clam cake box. 3 big cakes for $10 or so. Warning, they will ruin clam cakes from any other place you may go! Only thing I would improve is the fries. Frozen crinkle cut yuk. Bring on some natural cut fries please!!! Inside seating is nothing fancy. Nice spot - we were there for lunch. Not over crowded and good service even if the staff seemed a little harried. Lazy man lobster was excellent, fried clams too. The clams have a thin, light batter the way I like them, and came out steaming hot, essential for fried clams! Prices were not unreasonable for the coast of Maine, just don't expect an ocean view even though it's right on the bay (that would give it 5 stars - the photo is from the pier next door). But top it off with home made desserts and a good local beer list, and it's definitely a winner. read more

My family has been a fan of this place for years - I have resisted the temptation to go back since I had a poor experience several years ago (but it wasn't the restaurant's fault, it was just a poor dining experience overall for various reasons). But we went back recently and wow - I have to say - I've been missing out! The menu is large, much larger than I ever remember it to be. I don't like seafood so I find myself "stuck" with burgers, hot dogs and chicken tenders as my options at many seafood restaurants in this area. Not here! They have steak, they have chicken parm, they have sandwiches, ... lots of great options for folks that aren't seafood fans. BUT they also have amazing seafood, per my family. The prices are right - not too high but definitely in line with what I'd expect at a "touristy" seasonal location. They have a pretty decent kids menu, that's always a nice bonus (which doubles as a seniors menu which is great for those that may have a smaller appetite). Their onion rings are AMAZING. A great puffy batter (just how I like them!) and served quickly and hot ready for enjoying. I ordered the french onion soup and a side salad and both were delicious. The salad was fresh, the soup was flavorful and with the onion rings - it made for a great, hearty lunch. The service? Eh, I think the waitstaff is spread a bit thin (at least they seemed to be this day). The house was full, there was a wait (it was a chilly, rainy July weekday - probably nothing else to do but eat!). But our server was very friendly and there were no errors or missing items so that's a huge plus when the place is busy. I'd definitely recommend! read more

Huot's was recommended to us by the owner of an Old Orchard B&B where my husband and I are staying. The restaurant is well-known for their fried seafood, but we could not resist the baked local haddock and fresh shrimp scampi. Both were delicious; however the shrimp scampi (served over rice pilaf) was maybe the BEST I have ever had. The dish was sweet, salty, and super garlicky. The seafood just melted in your mouth. Each meal was $16 and came with 2 sides. I enjoyed the (very small) portion of vegetables and the dish of creamy red smashed potatoes. They have a few local brews on tap (Geary's for one), as well as Sam Adam's served at least once in their signature glass. Also, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend Huot's for anyone (young, old, family, couple) visiting Old Orchard Beach. read more

When you come to Maine you expect superior seafood. The clam chowder was "ok" and it was downhill after that. We were two couples out for a fun evening of great Maine Seafood. My friend and I ordered fried clams and they were horrible!!!!!! As soon as the waitress arrived with the clams both my friend and I could tell this was not good. The "clam plate" looked like it was a pile of "blah". The so called fried clams were disgusting. We complained to the waitress, who by the way was excellent and almost apologetic for the meal. She asked if we wanted to try another batch and although we already knew what these would look like we said sure. Yup, same thing!!!!! I've had better clams in Florida.
