Went for dinner there in June. The food was all undercooked and soggy. The chowder was thin and not creamy at all, very bland with a puddle of grease on top. Gross! Even the fries were bad!! How do you mess up fries! The staff acted put out. They forgot our drinks. The best thing about this place, the music and the nice dining room. We had Huots two years ago and it was amazing! We visited the Resturant on Wednesday July 17, 2019. We had reservation at 6, and were seated within 5 mins. Servers were great (Kate) We had 8 in our party. We order chowders and side of onion rings . Friends thought it was good, to me looked watery and not a good old thick Maine chowder . We ordered apps and drinks to start. Then we all ordered a broiled or fried dinner. Food was superb! We had broiled scallops, clam plate dinner, lobster roll with fries and slaw. Then desserts were Maine blueberry pie ala mode , and homemade choc pie . Beers were ok, and I ordered a blueberry moscow mule. It was ok but I didn't order another one . Nice view terrible place. The employee who took the order did not pay attention to my girlfriends Allergies after 4 times I stressed make sure it's the GF Lobster. She brings it out on a bun with fries. The Manager never came over to apologize. They replaced the order and it was awefull she came home feeling sick. The food was significantly lower quality than in previous years. I picked up a to-go order and checked the bag. There were no sauces (crab cake aioli or tartar sauce) with my to-go all-seafood order. I went back in and they told me the crab cakes don't come with sauce (as shown in the online ordering picture) and directed me into the restaurant to get my own tartar sauce for my takeout order. The clams (also an up charge) were rubbery and chewy. The fries were previously frozen and tasteless. The batter on the seafood is also tasteless. I'm so disappointed and will not be back after years of patronage. I gave the one star because I did not get food poisoning from my food. This order was also placed and picked at a not busy time. I highly recommend going anywhere else. I can't imagine how my my order would've turned out if they are actually busy. Please don't waste your money. It was not my first time in Ferry Beach bit my first time dinning at HUOT's. We were there for a large family gathering, everything was ready when we arrived seating, meals, drinks. Manager was going around making sure everyone had what they needed and everyone's experience was fenominal.Absolutely amazing service. The food was amazing!! Convenient if on Cape Ellis as it is pretty much the only seafood spot there but pricey for the quality. Fried haddock was cooked well but lacked real flavor. Burger and chicken tenders the same. Crinkle cut fries were the frozen kind it seemed though a nice crunch. They make an absolute killing where they are nestled and the staff works hard and they are friendly. We need to eat cheap the next few nites to compensate for the dent this put in our food budget and would have been ok with that if the food matched that price. $100 plus tip for 3 adults, two small kids, no drinks. read more

Only open on the weekends. Beautiful spot with plenty of outside seating. I was lucky to find it open on a recent visit down to the dock. Insanely fresh whole belly clams. Very light batter and not greasy at all. Fries were very good and the coleslaw was excellent. I had the clam and scallop plate and it was too much for one person! Excellent parking, a non-metered lot directly across from building, friendly staff, covid-precautions taken mostly well. Fried haddock sandwich was delicious . Giant piece of white fish, with toppings of choice. Fresh roll. Onion rings were best we have ever consumed. Sweet, fresh. Delicious. Fried shrimp was plentiful. The price was outrageously inexpensive for a fried shrimp dinner (included coleslaw and French fries) a giant haddock sandwich, order of onion rings and 2 bottles waters it was only $36. Three recommendations: 1) salt on the fried items especially the shrimp 2) make homemade cocktail & tartar sauce not garbage kraft 3) make your own French fries or purvey better brand. In the area today, 5/13/22 & stopped to eat based on recommendations. Placed order (orders were being filled in numerical order, we were #61) and found a seat inside to wait. After an hour, they were just starting to complete tickets starting in the 30's! At no time did the "host" or person at the ordering window indicate how long it would take. I realize there is a huge labor shortage everywhere, but be honest with your customers up front & let them decide if they want to wait hours for a meal during the off-season. Ate here Saturday night for the first time since new owners have taken over. Had the baked haddock and a clam cake. Best baked haddock I have ever had! It was fresh, moist but not too watery and buttery from the ritz cracker crumbs on top. The set up is quite innovative with the labor market what it currently is. You order from the window and you can eat inside or take it to go. There is no served food any more. There is a bar. My husband got the fried clams and he enjoyed them as well. No words!!! Hout's is such a gem!! We went with the intention of being seated inside but the wait was long - seems to be quite the popular spot. The amazing thing is that they have a little window where you can order food to take out and eat wherever you please or in their little patio behind the building with lots of picnic table seating. Some people also order ahead for pick up. Either way we went for this option. The service was pretty fast, we must have waited max 15 minutes after ordering. The staff was super kind and really lively. We ordered the 1/2 and 1/2 box of butterfly shrimp (just larger shrimp than jumbo shrimp that still have the tail on them) and scallops. Since it was the dinner combination and came with fried and coleslaw. The fries were alright, nothing to rave about. However....the scallops and the shrimp? W O W . The scallops were fried perfectly and were soft on the inside and not weird and chewy. Hands down some of the best scallops I've ever had. They weren't greasy at all and the breading was really tasty and not overwhelming. Highly recommend! The butterfly shrimp was so so so good! The shrimp itself was perfect and really tasty. The breading that it was fried in had a little more flavor and quick to it maybe from black pepper and paired perfectly with the actually fried shrimp! We also got the clam chowder and that was amazing also! The only complaint there is I wish it had had more clam but I'm really picky with clam chowder and they make it here in a way that I absolutely love!! This use to be my favorite restaurant pre covid. Yesterday tried to make an online order was not able. Called to place an order told manager the service was not working. He told me he would the company and promptly hung up on me. Went in person waited in line for 30 minutes. When I got to the window they told me "we don't have any broiled shrimp. We only had fried shrimp". I asked why you did not put a sign up on the outdoor menu? No answer. Word to the wise, if no broiler shrimp the fried shrimp is not fresh. On Sept 3, we ordered a fried haddock dinner and clam chowder and were very disappointed. We had gone earlier in the season, got this same order and were very pleased. Then a couple of weeks later we returned and the fried haddock had gone from 2-3 large pieces of haddock, to smaller pieces and no where near what we used to get but the price was higher. On Sept 3, the haddock was very dry and we were unable to eat it. The clam chowder had a very oily film on it, had two chunks of potatoes and hardly any clams and was honestly not edible. Very very disappointed. This was our favorite summer restaurant for many years, no longer unfortunately. We will not be returning and will look for somewhere else to eat, and will share our experience with family and friends. read more

I get the scallops every time. For dinner they give you 13 large scallops with two sides for $19!! Best value in the Saco/Ellis area. I recommend getting them baked with butter. Lunch you get 7 scallops for $14 I believe. There's a nice bar too. read more

Convinced these are the largest and best lobster rolls in southern maine. Usually do the take out window and sit outside and gaze at the incoming boats and ocean views. If you are ever in town, you don't want to miss eating at Hout's!!!! The food, superb! The service, phenomenal! They accommodated my family visiting the state of Maine for the first time from Boston and New York showing up without a reservation (26 people total!) They assigned Kam, Mikaeli, and Carissa (I apologize the spelling) to wait on the 2 large tables and they were amazing!!!! We had 0 complaints, and everyone raved about the food. Accommodating such a large crowd, with 0 prior notice, and not one person complained or had bad feedback?!?! They know what they are doing!!!!
