Tastes exactly how the name describes it but that other yelper definitely had different preferences than me. Not a fan of the drink itself, but the vanilla latte that I had here was good. Their beans are pretty strong too, but I can't put a finger on what the flavor profile is. Didn't get a chance to try their food. There is plenty of seating as well as power outlets along with WiFi. I still like coming to Huskins Coffee from time to time. However, I've definitely visited less as prices keep increasing. $7 for a hot Hometown latte and it really doesn't taste like anything special. I'm not sure if they still use the same maple syrup to flavor the latte, but it doesn't seem to taste as unique or as good as I remembered. Also, the beans they use for their lattes don't offer any notes that I can pick up. So, for a fairly average latte, it's expensive. The place used to feel more spruced up, and while the decor is mostly the same, it now seems a bit dilapidated. The restrooms aren't very clean, and there's a whole area toward the back that just looks sad. I can't really fault them for that part, because it might be due to renting or zoning issues as it seems like an unused shared space that just looks unkempt. Every time I've been here (on weekend mornings), there's usually only one person working, and sometimes it takes quite a while to get my drink if there's anyone ahead of me. read more

Came here before getting on the road the other day . Parked on the side of the street. As we were walking up to the place you could smell the delicious beans roasting. I ordered one of the signature drinks and my husband ordered a flat white. We also ordered a BHLT sandwich and added an egg. Both of our drinks were great! The sandwich was also so good.the bread was so good and soft and the ham or Canadian bacon was so tasty and the egg was cooked just right. We enjoyed our morning coffee and meal. Visiting the area for work and saw this coffee shop nearby with close walking distance! Upon entering I was greeted nicely while I decided on what I needed to caffeinate myself with today lol. I went for the Local Honey latte since honey is my go-to when it comes to sweetening up some drinks. I also added an almond croissant to my order as well. My drink was a balance of light and strong. I was expecting a bit more honey/sweetness to it-- but I could definitely taste the hint. I didn't ask to add in more honey since I wanted to enjoy it as it is. I would try their other drinks if I come back! The ambience is one of my favorite things. It's calm, quiet, and super aesthetically pleasing to look at. Huskins is a retail shop located underneath an apartment complex. It is on a street corner so it is visible to traffic. There are about four parking spaces just outside the shop which has a 20 minute limit. The shop is Canadian themed. Apparently the owners are from Canada and so they wanted to bring a little bit of home to the storefront. I tried their hometown latte, which is a maple syrup latte. I asked for half sweet only because I know my sugar tolerance level. It is absolutely delicious. It is a dessert. I know that if I ever want anything that is coffee and maple syrup infused, this is going to be my go to choice. All the housemade syrups sound very good. They also roast in house and you can smell delicious coffee as soon as you walk through the door. The shop has high ceilings and an open floor plan with plenty of seating to work or lounge. It looks like they have a second location on Balboa Island also. If you are a regular, get the punch card. They also have a small food menu. Casual. Good service. Had Huskins on my list for a long time, and man, I've been missing out! Not only is the coffee delicious, but the vibe was relaxing, especially with the super aesthetic decor. Service was fantastic, and parking in the guest/retail garage posed no problems. I ordered a Vanilla Latte, and as basic as it seems, I appreciated how balanced it was. Different from other vanilla lattes in that it was coffee-forward, not too creamy or milky, with a strong vanilla flavor that didn't taste artificial or just straight up sugary. For some reason, it tasted even better the next day. Tastiest drink I've sampled from my friends was the Shaken Espresso. I didn't think anything of it when scanning the menu, but I regret not getting one for myself. Maple and cinnamon weren't overpowering, and it was sweet enough to enjoy without seeming like a dessert drink. Hometown Latte and Hazulnut Latte were also great. I definitely need to try the other espressos on the menu. They also serve a smaller selection of tea and food. From the garage, we walked through some hallways that led to what looked like apartment rooms and small business offices before reaching a sign pointing towards Huskins. Tried the pumpkin spice iced latte with the pumpkin cold foam since it's in season. The drink went well with the cold foam since it added a bit more of the pumpkin flavor and sweetness to it. Though it was sweet and not overly, I wasn't able to finish it. It was just too bitter for me. I want something smooth without the after taste. I had a sip of the lavender coffee since that person I was with ordered that. All I could take was lavender and no sweetness to it. Though the person behind the counter let us know that we could opt for a redo on our orders, we didn't have the time to try it again. I hope there is a smoother coffee available and if so then the person behind the counter should offer some advice. That would make for good customer service. read more

Here's the 411 on parking: There is 20 minute street parking which really only works if you're going to take your order to go. I arrived earlier than my friend for our coffee date so I made it a mission to figure out the parking situation. Other Yelp reviews mentioned that there is parking in the Luxury Apartment parking garage, which is true. However, some noted that they were unable to access the parking because the garage entry was closed. I also ran into this issue BUT fear not because there are TWO entrances to the parking garage...just keep driving through until you reach the second entrance. I think it throws people off because it says "Residents Only" for that entry, but ignore the sign like I did and enter anyway. If you drive all the way to the end of the garage you're going to pass "Guest Parking". Do not park here an indicated by other reviews. I did this and went inside Huskins to check with a worker if it was okay for me to park in the Guest Parking spot and he said no. Huskins visitors need to park in spots marked "Retail Parking" by the black pillars. Guest parking is for the residents' guests. I'm glad I checked this. Also, don't do what I did and exit through the door on the left because it takes you outside the building. Go through the door that takes you inside the building and Huskins is going to be at the very end of that hall to the left. I didn't go through that door because it has a card reader, so it looked like it was for resident entry only. Ignore the card reader, the door opens no problem. Whew! A lot of info but I hope this helps someone. For my visit I had the Shaken Espresso and the Breakfast Sandwich. My coffee was delicious. It was strong but not overpowering. The maple and cinnamon balanced it out nicely. Breakfast sandwich was delicious but it's tiny. They give you a packet of Tapatio if you like a little spiciness. Staff were nice and offered water with our coffee. There are a bit of seating options and tables, so it's a nice and quiet place to study. It was a little warm inside though. read more

Huskins has a unique menu with homemade syrups like butterscotch, lavender, and their maple latte being the most popular. It's tastefully decorated as an ode to Canada, there's an ample amount of smaller tables, and one large community table to sit at. On our visit, I ordered a dirty chai which had a nice spice to it, though I should've asked for no cinnamon on top. I made the bad decision of coming back to this place. If you ever look behind the counter you'll notice how unsanitary it is. The barista is using the same cup all day to pull shots, add syrups and doesn't wash or rinse anything and you can taste it in the espresso being pulled. Not only that, but the milk has just been sitting out the entire time and isn't being properly stored. I'm sure their beans and syrups are good, but it's being tainted by the poor management of the bar that needs to be addressed immediately by the owners of this institution. The store has a very nice interior and the locations is great being that we live in the apartments attached to the shop. But I find it pretty ridiculous that it takes 10+ minutes every time I come in for a simple cup of black coffee. The cashier mentioned to me that not many people order drip coffee but you'd think you can just make a pot when you open and have it ready for customers, instead I'm forced to wait as one employee is manning the entire store and I have to watch him measure out beans, grind them, and then brew the coffee while also preparing food and manning the register. I love me some strong lattes so Huskins hit the spot. I ordered the lavender latte and my bf ordered the recommended Hometown Latte. You can taste the strong espresso in both so if that is not a preference then maybe you can ask the barista for an extra pump of the syrup you like. The inside is nice, clean and spacious, it's really the typical modern industrial style that most coffee shops tend to adopt these days except they have some distinct Canadian decor such as a big Canadian flag, hockey sticks, and their Hometown latte is maple flavored. Maybe the owner is Canadian? This place is not super hard to find, it's on the corner of the Cabrillo Park and 1st Street intersection, but it may seem like it when your gps is telling you you've reached your destination and you're looking at an apartment complex. It's part of that apartment complex. There is also a metal art piece outside if that helps. Parking is limited to a few 20 min streetside spots. The menu is pretty simple which makes ordering easy. This is by far one of the best coffee shops I've ever been to. Their customer service skills were amazing, they were very sweet and very helpful when trying to decide what coffee to order. And their coffee was AMAZING. You can tell this location cares about the art of making coffee and not just selling coffee. I think their syrups are made in house and taste DELICIOUS. The space itself is great. There is lots of seating area available and it seems to be kept at some great cleaning standards. There were a lot of people that were coming in from the apartment complex, but they seemed to be regulars and were also super sweet. Only thing to keep in mind is parking is tough. I circled around the apartment complex trying to park inside but couldn't find a way in (the entrance had a machine that wasn't working on touch) but the coffee was WORTH the parking hassle. read more

A couple people on Google mentioned that this place was difficult to find since its at an apartment complex. But for those of you who are new, its literally at the corner of the complex. However, the parking situation can be difficult. I went here via uber so this did not apply to us. The place was spacious with outlets and wi-fi, making this the perfect place to get some work or studying done. They were serving vegan donuts (similar to ones found at steelhead and Rose Park) - i wanted some as they looked delicious but my mom said no. So I got a cookie and my mom got vegan banana bread.
