Came here on a Tuesday around 5:30 pm to meet up with a friend for dinner. The back parking lot was pretty empty and I was a little confused because it said parking was $2 for the restaurant but I didn't end up paying anyone, maybe bc it was early or a weekday. Parking was completely full by the time we left around 8 pm. Not a lot of restaurant customers but there are other businesses in the plaza. I walked in through the back and the restaurant was completely empty. It was pretty spacious with very tall ceilings and a decent amount of tables inside and out. We were sat in a large booth and the tables had buttons you could use to call the server over which was handy because the booth walls were so tall! It's bright inside and they had a few high quality TVs around playing different stuff. We decided to share the salkogi sullungtang (ox bone soup with beef brisket), dwaejibossam (boiled pork with Napa wraps) and dwaejideung (fried pork back ribs). We got the ribs soy sauce flavored which was recommended by our server. Side note-whoever goes to this restaurant next should take a photo of their updated menu because I forgot! The food was ready pretty quickly, we had everything before 6 pm. The ribs were definitely my favorite dish. They were served with a simple cabbage salad with tangy orange dressing. The ribs themselves were crispy on the outside, meaty and tender, and super super flavorful and delicious. Would get again for sure. The bossam was my second favorite item. Honestly a classic, never had a bossam I didn't like. It went well with the garlic, jalapeño, spicy radish kimchi, and the tender Napa. My favorite part is always the thin slices of pickled daikon. It also went well with the other banchan and personally I don't think it needs any sauce but I will add the provided bean sauce occasionally. The sullangtang was also delicious. Simple and satisfying. Hot milky broth, noodles, and beef. Then you add your desired amount of salt, black pepper, and green onion. It was also pretty affordable compared to the other dishes. I then ordered a bibim nengmyun (cold noodles in spicy sauce) to take home to my boyfriend. Total for everything around $120 without tip. A little pricey for the ribs imo but definitely worth a try if you're interested. I personally would come back even though they have a lot of the same dishes as other restaurants in the area. Tried the budae jjigae and the seafood pancake with friends. Honestly, the food and sides were okay but didn't stand out much compared to other ktown restaurants. The budae jjigae broth was good but we wished the seafood pancake was a lot crispier. The staff was nice and service was okay. Literally setting your tongue on fire with the spicy pork rib, but the trick is not to have the herbs on top, since those are the sources of dangerous spiciness. The ribs are so flavorful after long hours of simmering. The Thai sauce packed with lime juice offers a lot of freshness. Definitely worth trying and $54 for this portion is not bad at all. Gopchang hotpot is good too. Not really that spicy so don't be scared. The beef tripe and intestine are a little lacking in seasoning so I had to dip it in sauces, but they compensate with soooo many different banchans (the side dishes like kimchi and pickled radish). When the soup is reduced, the udon soaks up a lot of flavor, heavenly' Our waiters are very friendly, happily explaining the origin of the Thai pork rib in a Korean restaurant and literally running to put in our orders. But the ribs with the spices are getting tooooo spicy so I have to serve myself iced water one time since there's no time to wait for the water to rescue my tongue and throat and basically my entire sensory system. read more

I think I've been to Haemaru more than 30 times so far. Every time I visit, all the food is consistently delicious, and the staff are always very kind, which is why it's one of my favorite restaurants. The restaurant is also very spacious, so it always feels comfortable and pleasant. Last night, after spending the entire day at the hospital with my father, I came here for dinner with my family. I usually come for the seolleongtang and galbitang because they're always excellent, but this time I tried the kimchi pork belly hot pot, and it was absolutely delicious. Haemaru is a great place to have the kimchi jungol, it is very special kimchi stew with a lot of pork belly meat in it. They are not skimpy about the pork meat and the taste of the food is so good. The service was fast and friendly! The ambiance was relaxed as well. They had the WNBA on TV which I appreciated as most places only watch MNBA. I felt more welcomed there, as a woman, because of that. Even though the sullungtang broth was not my favorite that I've had despite seasoning it to my liking, it was still very delicious and they gave me lots of yummy banchan with it! I still highly recommend as you get a generous portion for a good price! Apparently they do charge 2.00 for parking from Thursdays to Sundays I believe? So keep that in mind! read more

We weren't originally planning on eating at Haemaru, but we needed something with no wait at 6:30pm on a Saturday, and this was it. Surprisingly, the restaurant was completely empty when we arrived - it was honestly a little eerie - and considering all the restaurants nearby had lines, I thought the food must not be that good. Luckily, I was wrong. I ordered the salkogi sullungtang, or ox bone soup with beef brisket. It was very comforting and almost addicting - I finished the whole bowl, soup and all. It is pretty light in flavor, but if you're in the mood for something healing and light yet filling, I'd highly recommend this soup. The brisket in the soup is tender and a decent portion, although I would love if there was even more meat. I also tried some of the meat from the tail gomtang (oxtail bone soup), and thought it was also decently tender but would probably still order my dish instead. The marinated pork ribs were also delicious but quite sweet if that's something you would prefer to avoid. They also provided complimentary banchan (radish and cabbage kimchi, bean sprouts) to start, all of which was pretty good. The one critique I'd have about this restaurant is that service was somewhat slow considering we were the only customers in the restaurant, but it was nothing crazy. Our server was nice and we got everything we needed, which is all that matters. The restaurant is probably more suitable for a casual outing, so you can come as you are. I think it'd be great for families, friends, or casual dates. I don't know why the restaurant was so empty when I went, but I'd love to see Haemaru succeed because I totally see myself coming back. We came to try the leng Saab and it was as good as I imagined. The pork fell apart nicely from the bone and complimented well with the spicy tangy sauce. If you are a fan of Thai food, you will love it. The fish sauce is very prominent. However, I think the pork rib is slightly overcooked for me. Since this is a Korean restaurant, we tried their signature sulluntang. It was very good - the soup was flavorful and fresh. You can tell it's cooked for a long time. It was so good that we drove back after leaving the same day for take out. The lady who took care of us was super kind and helpful. She taught me how to eat leng Saab. She was very attentive. The interior is quite spacious and can sit quite a few table. We came during the not so busy time so we didn't have to wait. The parking is right behind the structure. It's free until 4pm and it will be valet only. Overall a great experience, and would like to bring family back and try other items on the menu. read more

Hidden gem for authentic and comforting Korean food!   I came around 5:30pm on a Monday, and there was barely any diners at the time yet, so there were a lot of booths open. The interior is spacious and I love how they have a big window showing the cooking process for some of their iconic dishes as well as monitors displaying menu items.   I got the Salkogi Sullungtang and it was amazing, it rivals that of Hanbat. The broth was creamy and was packed with a generous portion of beef brisket. I seasoned it with a couple dabs of pepper and two scoops of salt alongside the green onions which seasoned it perfectly. I also loved the banchan options. May favorite was the fresh kimchi, crisp and delicious. It paired well with the beef and rice.   My servers were super nice and attentive too. There is also free parking from 4pm-11pm out in the back and there are usually plenty of spots.   I would definitely come back here with friends and family to try the combo deals and dishes like the leng saap which are super unique. read more

The Maeun Galbi-jjim (spicy pork ribs with noodles) shows why people are finally paying attention to Haemaru's meat dishes. For years everyone treated this place like just another soup spot. Rookie mistake. The pork ribs arrive tender with good spice balance. No fake heat that burns for show. The meat falls off the bone easily and the Korean chili paste coating has depth. You taste garlic, gochujang, and something slightly sweet that ties it together. But execution varies. Sometimes you get perfectly braised ribs. Other times they're slightly tough or the sauce tastes rushed. The noodles underneath soak up flavor well when the dish works. When it doesn't, they turn mushy. The LA Times called their fried pork back ribs one of the year's best dishes. That version is crispier and more consistent than this braised style. Service stays solid. Staff knows you're here for more than soup now and they don't act surprised. The space gets packed during dinner so expect a wait. The dish photographs well, which explains the social media buzz. We both got the Yukgaejang and it did not disappoint. The spicy beef soup comes out in a stone bowl and is piping hot. We also shared a mung bean pancake and it was huge! With 3 large patties, can be shared with a family of 6 for appetizer. Downside is that they only have 3 types of side dishes: kimchi cabbage, kimchi radish and seaweed. First things first: beautiful big parking lot with free parking, no valet. A luxury in ktown. The food was good but it didn't stand out to me. I got the normal beef sullungtang, which had plenty of beef for $15-$16. The banchan was delicious, though I wish it came with fish cakes! My friends ordered other soups including the hangover soup which was filled with veggies. These spicier soups were very flavorful and made me wish I ordered one of theirs instead. I love spicy food and had a good share of bibim naengmyun growing up, but their bibim naengmyun was the spiciest I've ever had. Be aware of the spiciness when ordering bibim naengmyun. If you can't do spicy, I recommend the mul naengmyun instead. The Galbi-jjim!! Or Spicy Braised Beef Short Rib in English. The braised ribs were tender and easily fell off the bone after simmering in the red sauce. I loved that they actually meant spicy because the Korean definition of spicy can be very subjective. It wasn't sweet and there were jalapeños and red chili peppers mixed in. It was also stuffed with an assortment of veggies such as onions, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, eggplants, potatoes, and dates: all of which I've never really seen except the onions. They also put a crazy amount of cheese on there that I thought it was going to spill out of the bowl. The tteokbokki (rice cakes) wasn't as chewy though since it probably simmered for too long in the sauce but it still provided a nice contrast in texture from all the tender pieces in the pot. I also loved the banchan. The kimchi and radish had a great tang and kick. The pepper was a side dish that I don't often see but I really loved it! It cut the heavy flavor of the galbi-jjim and was like a refresher for my palette. The seaweed onion reminded me of a Japanese pickled side dish and it was so nostalgic. Our waitress was so kind and kept checking up on us and apologized that the torch she used was small because the big one broke. Halfway through our meal she even asked us if we wanted more cheese because she noticed that it was all mixed in and melted. I had a great time here overall and received such great service. The restaurant is very spacious and utilizes a lot of greenery with plants by the entrance. There's also free parking in the back which is a great added bonus. read more

Back at another Korean mom n pop shop! This is my first visit here and not my last for sure. My SF friend told me about this spot that she wanted to visit in LA and who knew the meal would change my life. I love the bossam they serve; it's a first for me to see radish wrapped kimchi served alongside with boiled pork belly. It was beyond so good that I dream about this dish every so often. It's actually my first time trying all the other 3 items. The Sullungtang was surprisingly thick and strong in flavor than I had expected based on the picture. It's not bad though as someone who grew up in a Chinese household that drink soup every meal. You can even adjusted flavor of the broth by adding salt and scallion. The Yukgaejang was the opposite of the Sullungtang, it has a strong flavor but the texture was not as thick. And last but not least, the savory Mung Bean Pancakes were not bad but to be honest not my favorite. It only tasted good when you dipped it with the sauce they provided. It might have caught me at a bad timing since this dish came near the end of our meal and I was stuffed by that time. Might have to re-try soon. As for parking, it can be a challenge!! Thankfully I came on a random weekday during lunch and the shared parking lot was empty. They do have one of those valet booth guarding the shared parking lot but it didn't seem to be operating that day so lucky us-- we didn't have to pay for parking! Can't believe I never heard about such a big restaurant in ktown with free parking (in the back). Their wide menu allows you to get sulungtang, bossam, or cold noodles all in one place which is amazing considering I usually go to different spots that specialize in each. We loved the banchan options as well. The bossam was great - meat was juicy and perfectly seasoned. Sulungtang paired so well as a milder dish to go with it. No wait going at 1:30pm on a Saturday. very mild yet so very delicious meal! came to haemaru for a little taste of different korean dishes and got just that! started off with their seokeo sullungtang (ox bone soup with brisket, intestines, tripe) and it had the most mild flavor ever ( you have to add your own salt and pepper, but that's part of the customizable fun) but the deepest bone flavor. it was so soothing to the soul. i usually don't drink all the broth of a soup but best believe i slurped up every drop of this one! we also got the la galbi (naturally) and it was good, as it usually is at most korean restaurants. HOWEVER, the main stand out of the night was the IMYEONSUGUI (ATKA MACKERAL). it was so perfectly crispy and savory, without being overly heavy or salty, and paired perfectly with the banchans, rice, and soup. i would recommend this restaurant for the fish alone, but it's an added plus that everything else we tried was delicious as well! our server was the sweetest lady ever and they we quick to refill our banchans and water whenever we ran out. the interior was clean and pleasant. *SIDE NOTE: there is parking if you go around the corner of the restaurant. i believe u have to pay but it is cheap and you can only enter the restaurant from the back way (aka from the parking lot) anyways. just putting it out there for your convenience! read more

Haemaru is known for their hot Sullungtang beef bone soup with noodles, but I want to say that the must try menus are the other shareable meat menus like 육전 Yukjeon (beef brisket dipped in egg batter & pan-fried + lightly Marinated with sweet soy sauce) tastes SO GOOD, I get it almost everytime I come here. Haven't tried their leng saap (등갈비 deung galbi) but it looks very good from other people's review & would love to try next time.
