I've not had Korean BBQ since the onset/onslaught of the pandemic, but being a vaccinated and carefully masked patron, I am ready to venture out when restaurants are ready. Hwang's was ready! I didn't want to brave the parking in K-Town so my entourage suggested Gardena. Well...alright alright alright!! I read the reviews on how it's no longer all you can eat ( overrated) and that the service is slow from the two mid-aged Korean ladies who own the establishment. Let me tell you! These ladies huddle. Mind you, once they bring you your order ( quicker than I have EVAH had K-BBQ brought to the table) and plentiful portions ( we were extremely stuffed) and brought free steamed rice (most places you have to order) they move on and it takes a bit to get their attention. No wonder- they are hostessing, serving and cleaning! And are sweet to boot! Hats off to these ladies- the fish cakes were the best I've ever had. I will be back. They don't give you the full portion of banchan (I think because it's a smaller Kbbq joint) only like 4 dishes but they are delicious and don't lack on flavor at all. I have never been disappointed with Hwang's. For many months they were completely closed during the early stages of SARS CoV-19 so I am happy to see that they have re-opened. This is a decent KBBQ joint in Gardena! I was invited to have KBBQ by a friend who was craving it so I suggested meeting here after finding it on Yelp. I suggested it because it was an AYCE deal for $16.99 which I thought was a better deal than paying for it by the platter although I regretted it afterward because I felt I had eaten way too much. I guess in some countries, that would be considered a luxury. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful and blessed to be able to do this, but my personal opinion is I feel it's really unhealthy and should be done very infrequently. Anyways, getting back to the restaurant, It's a medium sized space with round tables with the barbecue grill in the center. The tables can seat about 5-6 people comfortably. The chairs are round upholstered stools without any back support so if you need it, make sure you get a table by the wall so you can lean against it. Came here with some college buddies for dinner the place is located in a plaza so parking is tight with all the other businesses. Tables are round so if you have a big group and the back area is full then you'll be stuck with the round tables pushed together. The good thing is it's 19.99 AYCE with choice of 10 different meats the food was good and tasty but this place is small so all the cooking stem from other tables by you can get smoky. The floors were greasy all over though you can't see it but when walking it feels like your gonna slip. Maybe will be back if we are all in the area. read more

They offer the choice of sliced brisket (great), pork belly (eh), black pork belly, pork neck, beef ribs (yum), marinated sliced beef (yum), small intestine (didn't bother to try), chicken (yum), beef tongue (eh). What i love most about this place is the SIDES! Oh, for sure, dude."), and all the others who my Baboo and I have had the pleasant chance to meet. Courteous, welcoming, pleasant and just plain nice. The $16.99 All-You-Can-Eat Deal is sweet, and the fact that it's open until 1:00 A.M. makes it the deal even sweeter. That's how my Baboo and I found this smoky place, come to think of it. We were hungry after catching a movie at the Arclight in El Segundo, but didn't know what place was still open. We also didn't exactly know what we were craving for. That actually happens a lot to us. Sometimes we'd even flip a coin if we're still conflicted after having narrowed the choices down to two. The winning choice... gets ditched. We eat at the other place. Yup, everybody loves an underdog. So... we Yelped using the app on our phones (Ehem. This alone should qualify us for the Elite status.). Open late. Check. Reasonably priced. Check. Nearby drive. Check. High Yelp ratings (Ehem. Again.). Check. And the thought of sizzling meat washed down by Soju and ice cold beer? FMA, this is a winner. Thinly-sliced beef brisket is our favorite. We usually allow it to sizzle until it's almost bacon-crisp... then dip it in the magic sauces... before we slowly enjoy chewing the sweet-salty crunchy-tender deliciousness of this awesome piece of heaven. Throw in an order of the marinated beef and the pork belly, and you're in for a feast. They have some more other varieties of meat, but we discovered that those three are what make us happy. We've been back several times since, and have even brought with us a couple of friends who all enjoyed the food. You should give this place a try. If you're okay with their swiveling chairs with no back rest (a good strategy to free up some space, I believe) and if you enjoy exploring low-key places with great service and good food but without the frills (and, yes, imagine yourself happily munching and drinking along in a Korean BBQ place packed with Soju-filled Koreans), then Hwang's is highly recommended. It's great because I get off work late and if I need to eat dinner I know this place will be available. since its a restaurant that's open late, I expected dukbokki to be here (spicy rice cake) but they said they took it off their menu. Strange. It would be a perfect fit for this restaurant since its open late at night and dukbokki is more of a late night snack to munch on, kind of food. But what we (hence, why I took off one star) The ladies here are really nice and accommodating. Which is great since I usually have a hard time with Asian waitresses, but they were perfect. The place isn't too big. They also have a couple rooms that are more private for a larger group. They have the typical kbbq food like brisket, marinated beef (bulgogi), pork belly, chicken, beef tongue and more. They also have alcohol. We got some white rice wine, raspberry wine and soju. I wouldn't recommend too big of a group b/c their set-up doesn't fully accommodate comfortably since each person is sitting on a stool and let's face it, people need arm space to reach all the food! My friends tried all the different meats. My favorite was the bulgogi, the flavor really got to the center of the meat. I live in the OC which has bomb places like Gen BBQ and Cham Sut Gol and have frequented Ktown many times for KBBQ so this place is just MEH in my book. It's $16.99 for AYCE with 8 different kinds of meat: brisket, pork belly, pork neck, chicken, marinated beef, etc. The brisket was a little discolored looking to me and the pork belly was super fatty. I did like the marinated beef though. They have a huge array of banchan they serve; my favorites are bean sprouts, noodles, and potato salad. The kimchi is excellent if you place it on the grill for a few minutes! We were seated in one of the private rooms even though there was only 2 of us. Although the privacy is nice, you do not get ANY attention from the waitresses. We didn't have rice paper or hot sauce and it took forever to flag down a waitress. Even then, she forgot, and we had already gone through an entire plate of brisket, with no rice paper -___- Now that I think of it, we never got rice paper at all... They had a sale for soju so we got a bottle of that with a bottle of beer. They also have TVs in the main dining area that'll play basketball games. This is our perfect go-to late night kbbq place. Since I used to work in a restaurant, and my boyfriend is a bartender, we are always looking for places opened late. Hwang's is perfect because it's not too far from home and the food is great. We normally go with a group of people after work so we do the all you can eat for about $17.99 a person. This covers all the basics that you love at kbbq such as brisket, beef tongue, pork belly, small intestines, chicken, spicy pork, beef ribs, marinated sliced beef and pork neck. The selection may not be as big as other places, but I always get my pork belly craving satisfied happily ^.^ This price also includes a variety of banchan, which is always my favorite part at korean restaurants. We always eat so much of the banchan when we first arrive that we probably ask for about 2-3 refills throughout our meal. Don't forget to ask for rice paper! The sad part is that the steamed egg is not included in the price :/ but I would still highly recommend it. The only part about Hwang's that I'm not a big fan of is that they no longer have a liquor license. I love a nice, cold Hite with my pork belly and kimchi. It's such a tease because it's still on the menu but they no longer serve it. Overall, I would highly recommend this place if you don't want to drive all the way to K-town for decent kbbq.
