Fast approaching the Christmas weekend and one of the heaters wasn't working in our vacation rental. I called after 9 am this morning and was told a technician would be out between 10 and 12. Right around 10 Jeff showed up and quickly discovered that the vacuum hose to the pressure switch was disconnected. He quickly reconnected it and tested out the system. Heat was working great! We made the appt based on a friends suggestion. The tech was on time and let us know when he was on the way. That is the good part. went up to the attic and checked things very quickly and informed us that he could fix a few parts for $2100 but that after about 6 months we would not be able to get the freon and that we would then need a whole new system for about $9000. He kept pushing that on us and some duct cleaning and said it would be a waste to spend the $2100 for a band aid. He also said we also needed new compressor. So we called someone else who put in a whole new furnace with some new ducts for $2500 and he said the compressor was perfectly fine. The AC and heat both work really well now. I feel like Hyde tech may be on commission. It was a pretty hard sell. read more

Sometime in the middle of the night, our AC heat pump quit working and it wasn't until noon the following day that I realized what had happened (as I began to sweat...initially believing it was just the chili I had for lunch). I called several AC companies and couldn't get anyone out until that night...being the first real hot day of the year and many others probably enduring the same fate as I. I remember seeing the Hyde's trucks in our community and called them. Within a couple of hours they sent out a technician (James) who quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it (faulty capacitor). The professionalism of James and the courtesy and attentiveness of those that I spoke with in the office have made me a customer for life! I've dealt with several local companies in the past and it was almost as bad as going to the dentist due to long waits, incorrect diagnosis of the problem or even hard selling a complete new AC system when it is unnecessary. I can't tell you how refreshing it was to deal with an honest, efficient and professional locally-owned company. Thank you, Hyde's! I've been a customer of Hydes for the last few years. They've been taking care of my aging AC unit at my rented condo in Palm Springs every 6 months on their service plan. When the unit finally died, Hydes arranged and installed a new unit in July. That seemed to go well. However, later on, I discovered that I paid for a 4-ton unit, but Hydes installed a 3-ton unit (roof installation - not easy to see it). If I hadn't noticed and complained Hydes would've kept the extra money. Then I got a call about the city inspection. I told the person on the phone at Hydes to please call my renter to arrange for the city permit sign-off inspection....just like every other visit Hydes had arranged with my renter over the previous 2+ years. Month's go by and just 8 weeks before the permit expires, I get something in the mail from Hydes saying that I get to handle scheduling the city inspection because I haven't been returning any calls (which I never got, aside from the first one). The letter they send to me is addressed as : Dear Ms. Reese. (not my name), so clearly a form letter. I'm in SF, so this is a problem. My renter is in the process of moving out, so I ask our friendly neighbor to help. He schedules the city inspector and she comes out but needs a ladder (to get to the roof). So he runs around the complex looking for the gardener's ladder and gets it. Only to find it is a few feet short. So he arranges for a longer ladder to be rented for the next day and to be delivered early in the morning...which it is. And then we find out that Hydes has damaged the roof during the installation (they had to cut out some foam roof to remove the old unit, but didn't tell anyone about the damage). So we fail the city inspection. Now I have to manage this roof repair process from SF too (which at least Hydes agreed to pay for). The final insult was my a new renter moves in and the heat doesn't work. So the new renter has to last through a very cold December weekend with no heat, waiting for a gas valve replacement on a Monday evening, on a $7K new heater/AC unit. I get a call from Barry Hydes during this process and the first thing he says is "I haven't read your e-mail". In other words, he doesn't care about my concerns. And I get no apology from Mr. Hydes. He had a very insolent attitude. Recently I had to get a 10-year old AC unit at another property in Palm Springs checked out and I hired GM Air on a friends recommendation. They were terrific. I will use GM Air from now on. read more

Professional and Exceptional service by James Burrell. I don't think I have ever encountered a service experience like this one in my life. If I could I would give him 10 Stars! The company was very professional in setting up my appointment and after spending a day and night without air when it has been 108° outside... I needed a quick fix. James called to let me know that he was on his way and was right on time.. No waiting around for half the day... The company said when he would be there and he was there on time. When James arrived he introduced himself and I must say.. My experience was a pleasure from beginning to end. And I must also mention that my mother has worked for a competing air conditioning company in the desert... And although you would think there would be a sense of professional courtesy towards her after she had left the company... I would have to say that I received today better service then she has ever received from that company when she has had air conditioning problems, sad to say. Long story slightly longer... I will always call Hydes Heating and Air Conditioning if I ever have future problems with my air conditioning.... And No, I didn't get paid to say any of this... Trust me.. Ask for James Burrell.... Ok so I selected Hydes after researching several companies to replace my air conditioners. I mostly went with them as they offered a GREAT price as both my neighbor and I were going to both replace our entire system. Over all they did a very good job. We both got great systems and installed in a fast manner. The sales rep was nice an knowledgeable (however a little over the top in style). My reason for the three stars is for the FINER details that did NOT happen correctly. 1. They needed to put a hole in my wall to run a new thermostat in our guest room. Although I was home just 20 feet away they chose to cut a hole in the wall with out discussing with me (and there was a an option to make a hole in a closet close by) they chose to cut the hole in the middle of the wall. I was NOT HAPPY. The part that is frustrating is that they (the installation team) did not communicate this to the sales team or the main office. NO ONE called to say sorry for the issue. Although the installer said they would repair it, the point being the lack of communication ( they did repair it so it is not too noticeable) 2. Spending over 22K you would think that they would put in new filters... NO, even after mentioning it to the sales rep twice. NO ONE came out with new filters. Now this may not seem like a big deal BUT it is the finer details that make a company good to great ! 3. The last point is they send you email after email asking for you to complete a survey on their service ( I received 8 in total) . The funny part is they send them already filled in ! YES already filled in. You can delete what they wrote in BUT you can not change their star rating from the five stars. NOW THAT IS LOW. I do not think that is the way to get feedback. It is now two weeks after my install you would think someone would call and ask how is everything working any issues, but not a sound from them (everything is working perfect but a follow up would be the good to a great company) I will end with this: If you need a new system they sell a great brand and do a good job. I do wonder if there are other little details that they missed that i do not know about yet... BUT for their price and level of service I would say you can not go wrong with them. There are other good companies out there but check apples to apples they all have a little difference. Pick the company that will be around when you need them. read more

I've used them for maybe 10 years and in that time have replaced, at their request, ALL the central A/C compressors at my house (4 of them). The last was for a new addition and the unit was less than 2 years old(installed by the general contractor, not Hydes) and cost $4195 for Hydes to replace. Then that system wasn't right so they came back and charged me $650 for an additional part-all for a space of less than 500 sqft. So, my next service call will be to another company! read more

Just finished replacing our entire HVAC system and really want to give Hyde's our highest recommendation. We split our time between Rancho Mirage and Los Angeles and really don't know that many good companies in the Coachella Valley so relied on Yelp recommendations and the referral of friends. Really glad we did. From the moment I called, I was treated courteously and respectfully. Mike Hyde arrived promptly and had excellent recommendations, explained the various energy efficiencies of the units, and took the time to call the association's roofer to ask questions as the unit was to be installed on the roof. The installation process went without a hitch--the company is a well-oiled machine and the technicians are all professionals who are polite and neat, thorough and courteous. They even volunteered to fix the shabby job another HVAC company did installing my NEST thermostat, including patching and painting the wall, and they left me with extra filters (we have an odd size and they are not easy to find). Although I didn't price shop, I'd say that the cost was reasonable and Hyde's does not overcharge and is an extremely honest company. read more

Called for service and paid a service fee to be told I needed 21,000 in equipment replacement for 2 systems. Told existing units could not be repaired. Lots of double talk. Paid the service fee and called another company who fixed both units with fans and a little refrigerant charge. Paid 1,100. Systems operating fine. In the end the service technicians are all about selling vs. servicing. Hyde's should spend some training time on ethics and service versus training folks to up sell the client. read more

Wow, these guys are first rate! If I could give them 10 stars for customer service I would! I reached out to them early this morning in a panic situation. Another company I had booked an appointment through never bothered to show up yesterday and I had water leaking all over my floor from the freezer in my kitchen. The other company is called Appliance Repair of La Quinta. Beware of the positive reviews on their page because I don't believe it's possible. However, after calling several companies that were all booked through the end of this week, I found Hydes on Angie's list and saw great reviews. I also saw that they had been in the area for 40+ years and were family owned. That means something to me because you can't run an unprofessional company and still be in business after 40 years. We were returning back to Oregon on Wednesday morning and I was panicked that I couldn't find someone to fix our refrigerator before we left. I spoke with a very kind and compassionate woman who answered the phone... Lisa. She realized I was in a bad situation and quickly went into action mode. She squeezed me into their schedule and had someone here in three hours. The technician came and fixed our problem in 30 minutes! I am told he has been with the company 25 years which is very impressive to me. But I really want to give the accolades to Lisa, she treated me with importance professionalism and care. Since she is your first line to the customer, her role is very important. I own two companies and was extremely impressed with the way she handled my situation. I would hire her in a second to work for me! If you have any major or minor work that needs to be done with any of your appliances and or air and heating issues, think of calling these guys first. We have used Hyde Air Conditioning since 2001 when we had them replace two air conditioners at our condo at The Lakes. We then purchassed a condo at The Club at Morningside which required two more air conditioning units. Both of these jobs were done promptly and efficiently. Subsequent to that we had them replace all of the ducting which was a hellish job as the ducting was all in the attic of our condo. It was a messy job, however, they did a tremendous job of not only the installation but the cleanup each day. During all these years we have used them on an annual maintenance contract and any concern we had, they responded immediately. We couldn't more highly recommend them to anyone needing air conditioning or heating work. read more

First they got the day wrong. Then after taking time off from work and loosing lots of money they came the next day. When the tech showed up he was an angry man who came with an attitude. He was so angry and yelling at me he scared me to death. At one point I thought I would call the police. He finally found the problem and then continued his barrage of yelling and abuse. When I reported it to the company they did not respond. I will NEVER call them again, and you should not either. read more

A friend of mine reccomended Hydes Appliance to replace the ice maker in our refrigerator. I was not home but my son watched the repairman unplug and remove the ice maker. The repairman called and gave me a $300 estimate to replace the ice maker. When I returned home, my son said, "Dad, it's easy, you can just unplug and pull it out and replace it with a new one." I feel a $300 estimate is a very high considering it cost me $46 to order and have a new unit shipped to my home and it took me 10 minutes to replace it. I still had to pay Hydes $75 for the visit to my home which they did not mention on my initial call. read more

They talk a good game and have a decent product, but don't count on ANY service and if you want the rebate from SCE that they brag about, you will be waiting a very long time and have to do all the leg work yourself, while they lie to you that it is is in process. 2 years ago I came home with the fan blowing but no cool air coming out. Went outside to look at my unit and the fuse box had burn and chard the box and the wiring connected to my ac unit. Called Hydes and the tech who came out EASILY could have tried to sell me a new unit if he was dishonest and used the damage has a scare tactic. To my surprise all he said I need was a new and bigger amp fuse box, well that really was refreshing dealing with an honest tech that really could have fleece me. Hydes just put in a new ac and furnace unit after having the original unit here for at least 15 plus years. I recommended Hydes to my sister and they replace her unit last year on my recommendation and was very satisfied with the work they did for her. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HYDES for your ac/heating problems and installs.
