I'm leaving this review so other buyers are aware of the sales tactics used at Hyundai Escondido. Mind you this is my third brand new vehicle purchase from Hyundai over the last 5 years and I am just so disappointed in this dealership for treating customers in this way after being so loyal to the brand. Before visiting the dealership, I had an extended text conversation with someone identifying herself as "Christina" from Hyundai Escondido. During that conversation I was given a specific written quote of $365/month for 60 months for a 2026 Hyundai Elantra SLE Sport. Based on that written quote, I scheduled an appointment and came in ready to purchase the vehicle the same day. When I arrived, the situation immediately became strange. First, Christina was "on vacation" after mentioning over text message that she had already made two sales today. I was handed off to Jerry, who initially acted like he had no knowledge of the conversation. However, shortly afterward he pulled up the exact same text message thread on his own phone, which made it clear that the dealership was aware of the conversation despite pretending otherwise. After explaining everything to Jerry, we were asked to sit and wait. About 30 minutes later Jerry disappeared, and another salesperson named Adrian came over as the "closer." Adrian then presented a payment that was nearly $100/month higher than the written quote I had been given in text messages prior to visiting the dealership. None of the numbers matched what had been promised. At that point it started to feel like a classic bait-and-switch tactic -- quote a low payment over text to get the customer into the dealership, then change the numbers once they arrive. We were repeatedly asked to wait longer while they "worked on it." After enough time had passed, I informed the front desk that we would be leaving in 10 minutes if no one came back with the original deal that had been quoted. Suddenly Adrian came running back with another quote -- which still did not match the written pricing that brought us into the dealership in the first place. We left. For context, we were 100% prepared to purchase a vehicle that day, and we actually did buy one -- just not from Hyundai Escondido. We went to another dealership that was transparent from the beginning and honored the numbers they discussed with us. What concerns me most about this experience is: * A salesperson named "Christina" who appears to not exist * The dealership pretending not to know about the conversation despite having access to the text thread * A significant change in payment terms once we arrived * A long wait followed by pressure tactics and different pricing If Hyundai corporate monitors reviews, I hope they take this seriously. Misrepresenting pricing and potentially misrepresenting the identity of the salesperson communicating with customers is not acceptable. I purchased a used vehicle from Hyundai Escondido in 2024 and also purchased a Century Service Vehicle Service Agreement. My experience after the sale has been extremely disappointing. I recently contacted Century Service regarding an electrical issue and was informed, for the first time, that my service agreement required Hyundai Escondido's authorization before covered repairs could be performed at another repair facility. This restriction was never explained to me during the purchase process, I do not recall agreeing to it, and I have been unable to find any reference to it in the purchase documents I signed. I have made numerous phone calls and sent multiple emails over the past three weeks asking the dealership to explain this restriction or identify where I agreed to it. Despite being told someone would contact me, I have received no response. As a result, my vehicle repair has been delayed while I wait for an explanation. I simply want the dealership to identify where this restriction was disclosed and agreed to, or remove it if it was added without my knowledge. Unfortunately, the complete lack of communication has been the most frustrating part of this experience. Wife and I were looking for a new/used car for the family and we landed on Hyundai. Its never an easy process or short process, but we were helped by 2 gentleman Gerardo and Trevor C. Gerardo met us out front right away and took us to the car my wife had previously researched. The wife was ready to sign paperwork after just seeing the inside. Gerardo being the professional that he is asked if we would like to drive the car before purchasing? Which was awesome! He led with the point that we should make sure we like to drive the car not just the features presented. Trevor came in later to make the processes go way faster and smoother really made us feel welcomed. We had really good laughs and conversation during the wait time for the paperwork. Not noticing we signed for 3k more than agreed and now they are saying there's no proof so we are SOL. Incredibly disappointed. I'd give them negative stars if I could... I brought my Hyundai Ioniq 6 to Hyundai of Escondido because I was experiencing serious, safety-critical symptoms that made me question whether the vehicle was safe to drive. After a night of charging I attempted to start the vehicle and got a red 12-volt battery warning, a battery discharge warning, no-start, would not shift out of neutral. The vehicle was essentially bricked. These symptoms match the recall documentation submitted by Hyundai to the NHTSA for Intermittent ICCU failure. These were not minor comfort or convenience issues. They involved systems tied to the vehicle's drivability, braking, electrical performance, and overall safety. What made the situation even more concerning is that the issue appears to involve a component that is already the subject of a Hyundai recall and a class action lawsuit. In other words, I was not asking Hyundai of Escondido to chase a vague or cosmetic complaint but to investigate a defective part that they are already aware of. I brought the vehicle in with symptoms connected to a known safety-related problem, yet the dealership still refused to dig further in any meaningful way and when I elevated to corporate they deferred to the dealership. It is a catch-22: they would not meaningfully inspect the problem unless they could reproduce or confirm it in a narrow way which is not always possible with an intermittent failure, but they also would not take the extra steps to confirm. I was told that they "don't get paid unless it is under warranty" but they weren't willing to look further to determine if it was under warranty. The service manager was dismissive and flippantly told me, "Don't drive it if you don't feel safe". I also could not get anyone to respond to my texts or emails. My service contact went days without responding to my questions. Even more concerning, Hyundai of Escondido falsified information on my repair order, and I have documentation supporting that. I have the document they gave me at drop off and what they changed it to. They changed the presenting customer concerns to state that I mentioned alarm wiring (which I was not even aware of). I made them change this before I would sign and they slightly modified it but still maintained it on the order even though I had never mentioned it at drop off. They were essentially writing that in to support their theory which an independent shop told me could not cause the constellation of symptoms my vehicle exhibited. I had to append a statement to the order and signed under duress to get my vehicle back so I could take it to another mechanic. After this experience, I took the vehicle to another shop for an independent review. That shop said the codes might have been purged. They also found a code related to the emergency brake. When they contacted Hyundai, they were told Hyundai would not have the part to repair that issue for months. The independent shop also explained that they could not even do a visual inspection of the ICCU for thermal load without major expense because it would take approximately six hours of labor just to get to the part. That raises serious concerns about whether Hyundai is hesitant to investigate further because of the cost, complexity, lack of available parts, lack of experienced mechanics, and potential broader responsibility. Overall, I left feeling dismissed, unsafe, and misled. I expected Hyundai of Escondido to take a potential safety issue seriously, document the visit accurately, and make a genuine effort to diagnose the problem. Instead, I felt like they minimized my concerns, refused to investigate further, and left me with no meaningful path forward. I would not recommend this service department, Hyundai corporate, or the vehicle itself. By far the worst customer service experience I have ever had. At this point my vehicle is a ticking time bomb. He tries telling us that somehow we're in the wrong for not wanting to pay his asking price and that we should not be concerned with the amount charged as long as we can afford the monthly payment. What?! He spoke over us and didn't allow us to explain why that didn't work for us. When I told him that he was, in fact, speaking over us, he got red in the face and puffed up his chest like he was going to swing on me. He showed us to the door and shut it behind us. When I signed off for the car she got Gerardo(Jerry) to help me review the features. He took a good 30 minutes to not only review everything, but get me signed up on the Hyundai app and their Bluelink service. This wasn't his sale, but he took the time to show me everything I needed to know. I later spoke to a coworker who picked up their fleet car in the Bay Area and he was in shock. We met with Alex Villarreal, with whom my husband had been corresponding ahead of time. He already had the Santa Fe Hybrid ready for us to check out when we arrived. We also explored a few other models, and Alex was incredibly knowledgeable about all the features. He guided me through a thorough test drive that really allowed me to get a feel for the SUV. At no point did we feel rushed. We even left to grab lunch with our kids to talk things over, and when we came back, we were able to pick up right where we left off and start the process. My son found a 2024 Mazda CX-5 with a little under 27k miles at Hyundai of Escondido through TrueCar. He was already pre- approved through NFCU so buying this vehicle would be a breeze, so we thought. We test drove the vehicle. All was going great until the saleswoman wanted to run his credit. We explained to her we wanted to talk numbers 1st. So she and 4 or 5 "Managers" said we need run his personal info just to make sure we aren't selling to a Drug Dealer or Terroirs. Like WTF? I told them fine, whatever. As long as they don't run his credit because NFCU already ran his credit to get pre- approved and I stressed that multiple times. Five minutes later my son got a notification from Experian, Hyundai of Escondido pulled a credit inquiry on him. Of course at this point we were highly upset. I spoke to one of the managers and he said he doesn't know why his credit was pulled. No one took accountability, No one! End results, he bought the vehicle but the people we dealt with customer service skills sucked. We encountered more problems with them but it's too much to list. Before their closing time, I called HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO, disclosed the symptoms and was authorized to have the Elantra Towed too HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO for a "Diagnoses of the Underlying Cause". At 7:30 the next morning, "ELSI" (HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO SERVICE DEPARTMENT) called me stating "the Electrical wiring was eaten by a mouse". ELSI then said (LIED) "because of the mouse damage the ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS NEEDS REPLACED". And ELSI said (LIED) "to Replace the Entire Wiring Harness HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO MUST PULL THE ENGINE & TEAR OUT the DASH--- the COST is 13.3K--- $13,300.00---THIRTEEN THOUSAND-THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS". In response to ELSI's statement (LIE), I communicated to ELSI "I will think about the Cost involved and I will call you Shortly with my Decision". But within minutes, and Without Me Requesting, ELSI Forwarded, via Text, a Signature Authorization for HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO to preform the work. Had I signed, I would Legally be bound to owing $13.3K-$13,300.00- Thirteen Thousand-Three Hundred Dollars! We know Asian Automotive Manufacturers ie... Hyundai, Toyota etc... Manufacturer their vehicles to operate for 300K+ Miles. Meaning little Warranty work= little Warranty Funding. Meaning SLOWER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS to charge for Added potential services.Frankly, I Believe that ELSI KNOWS there would be Much More Profit if I allowed them to SCAM Me. ELSI acted SHADY from her phone call to meeting her. With some searching, I Sourced the "Transmission Speed Connector" with its' Pigtail (lead wire) attached. The price without shipping was $85.00 (Eighty Five Dollars) via CONNECTORS.COM (Chicago). And I asked for 2 Day Fed-Ex which was $25.00. They have Every Automotive- Appliance-Electronic Connectors manufactured!!! Their Pricing & Service is Stellar. If there is a Connector Needed- they have it! I am not a strong mechanic. Yet, I rather EASILY Spliced the wiring and Plugged the Connector (on top of the Engine). It took me all of I5 Minutes! And, I spent $85 (Connector) + $25.00 (Fed-Ex 2 day shipping)= $105.00. I did NOT allow HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO TO SCAM ME for 13.3K I have my Receipts- their Proposed "work-Up and Photo of their mechanic holding the connector! I've sat in the fancy waiting rooms, sipped their espresso, and walked out feeling like I just got tricked by a magician in a suit. But this time? It felt like I was buying a car from family. A really fun, professional, cookie-baking, gong-slamming family. Let's start at the top. We first found the car online, and even that part was easy. No games. No smoke and mirrors. The price was what it was, and it was actually a good deal (imagine that). From there, we showed up at Hyundai of Escondido and were greeted by Marcella. Eventually sitting in her office surrounded by orchids like she runs a spa and sells cars on the side. I half expected her to come around the corner wearing an apron with a plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, and honestly, I still think she might've had some hidden back there. While we didn't get cookies, what we DID get was real-deal customer service. Down-to-earth. Patient. Honest. Marcella made us feel like we weren't just a sale... we were people, and she treated us like it. Next up: Steve in finance. Now, we've got a unique situation, and most finance folks would either talk over your head or try to rush you through it. Not Steve. Steve broke it all down, took his time, answered every question, and didn't flinch once. Solid guy. Smart guy. The kind of guy you want at your table when real numbers are flying. Then we met Shawn. It wasn't just because he happened to have the greatest name on Earth... (Don't argue with me... it is).... Shawn didn't try to "CLOSE" us. He didn't use tricks. He was persistent, sure -- but persistent in educating us. That's rare. He gave us all our options, made sure we understood every detail, and never once crossed that line into pushy. That kind of salesmanship? That's a lost art. But not at Escondido Hyundai. Right after that, we met David Hernandez.... a manager who didn't show up to "clean up" the sale like most do. No clipboard, no pressure. He was there to SUPPORT, to CHECK IN, and to MAKE SURE we were genuinely happy. The guy is clearly a leader... not just a titleholder. You can tell this because he trains people right. It's apparent because his whole team operates with care and integrity. And that's not by accident. That's culture. Now for the finale... The Gong Ceremony. Yes. You read that right. As we wrapped up, the entire staff gathered around my wife... and I mean EVERYBODY. And there, like something straight out of an ancient epic, she was handed an authentic Tibetan gong striker. (Technical term: a mallet with mystic powers). Legend has it, this sacred artifact has been passed down for generations from Himalayan monks who once sold yak carts to villagers. Hyundai was born from those carts, or so the story goes. And now, here in Escondido, California, the tradition lives on. She banged that gong with pride as everyone erupted with silly string, confetti poppers, cheers, and laughter. It was loud. It was joyful. It was weirdly emotional. And here's another little bonus that really stuck with me... Lisandro, a salesperson who wasn't even involved in our sale, pulled out his phone, recorded the whole moment, and later sent it to me directly. He didn't have to. But he WANTED to. That's what happens when the culture of a place is solid from the top down. It's not about who's making the commission, it's about making memories for the customer. And Lisandro? He sealed that moment in time for us. So Lisandro, if you're reading this... kudos to you, my friend. You're the real deal. I've NEVER had an experience like that at a car dealership. Not once. And now, here I am, a guy who used to swear by German engineering, proudly saying I'd take a Hyundai over any other car... IF it came from Hyundai of Escondido. Thinking about a Tesla? G-Wagon? I had the worst experience at this dealer. They offered me 4500 online for my trade, then when I arrive in person, they offer me 1000! Then struggled to get me financed (I don't have perfect credit after being unemployed for 6 months), I settle for a loan, and via text the deal is made. The next day, I am heading to the dealership, then get a call from Brian in finance telling me the car we had a deal on was sold that morning! Sold the car from under me, claiming without a contract there is no deal. I had a text from Brian with the document that breaks down the loan terms. I stated "deal" and "let's do this" which he acknowledged. As it turns out, that was null and void as he apparently failed to let anyone know about our deal. When he got in, the car was sold by another sales person, and I was left out. I still get texts telling me I'm approved for another car. If I wanted another car, I would have asked to see another one. Used cars are unicorns, new cars are easily replaceable. Brian will need to learn this as I feel he doesn't have that experience in life yet. I asked to speak to a manager and that never happened. Great pre-sales (Nate) and financing (Omar), but that's when it all goes to $hit! This is our first time buying an EV and it would've been nice if someone had taken the time to talk us through the set up and all the multiple different options and controls and widgets available. We got home, but were completely befuddled trying to set up the digital key on our phones. Hyundai customer support is only available on weekdays (really!?!) So we drove the 20 miles back to the dealer, where sales were less than helpful, but thank goodness for Sayori, the Internet manager, who reset everything and finally got us on the road a couple of hours later. "the right price" exchange, they sent over a quote $4k over the online, cash, including dealer fees price. The car has been on the lot for awhile and is kind of beat up on the inside, and other dealers are advertising below MSRP. They've since tried to reengage me 4 times, often asking me to go into the store to get a quote (which I consistently decline), and so far their best offer is $300 ABOVE the online price. Once they texted me saying "There's flexibility and we're typically pretty aggressive" before giving me an offer that was a couple hundred dollars above THEIR PREVIOUS QUOTE TO ME. I'm not exactly sure why the reviews of this place are so bad, but this place is my go to Hyundai service center. I have struggled with the woman who answers the phones but I really like my service advisor, Brandon. More than once when I have called the person/people who answer the phones have been challenging. I've received dead pan answers with no solutions offered, so I'm knocking off a star for that. I tend to bypass calling, schedule online, and you're able to text your service advisor while avoiding the phones. I was due for a large service and Hyundai had my car done in under the estimated 90 minute estimate. My car was brought back immediately when I dropped it off at my appointment time. Brandon has answers to all of my questions, and gets answers when he doesn't know something. I'm sure I'll be back for the next service. read more

If I could give this review zero stars I would. I bought a used Toyota Camry SE from Hyundai of Escondido. They told me it passed their inspection and everything was fine. I even have all the paperwork from them saying the car was in good condition with no problems. Well, that was a lie, because not even 9,000 miles later the engine is burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. I took it to Toyota, and they told me the engine repairs would cost 11,000 dollars for a car I was told was "good to go." At this point, I honestly feel like I got played. Either their inspection means nothing, or they just don't care what problems they pass on to customers. I trusted them, and now I'm stuck with a car that needs a repair bill that's basically the price of another car. If you're thinking about buying a used car from them, don't trust these people with your time or money. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. read more

We purchased a 2023 Sonata Hybrid new. After about a year the driver memory buttons would only work intermittently. I took the vehicle into the service department however that was one of the times the buttons worked. The service person stated that for intermittent issues they could do nothing and I should bring it back when it was malfunctioning. I tried a few times, but when I arrived at the dealership, the buttons would work. I finally gave up. However recently I took the vehicle in for regular service and when we got there, the buttons failed to function. When the service person named Elsi came to the car, I told her of the issue and that finally it failed to function at the dealership so they could diagnose it. She said they did not have the personnel to diagnose at that time. She said, "We would not have an update until tomorrow." I asked her what that meant 3 times and she just repeated the same thing. Finally, I said "Are you saying we would need to leave the car overnight?' She said yes. I told her that would be unacceptable as there is no guarantee it would fail to function the next day. She said fine. In other words what they are saying is I need to arrange to have an intermittent failure occur at the dealership AND when their schedule allows for it to be diagnosed. It should be noted that I was tempted to file a BBB complaint, but when I went to the BBB website. I saw the dealership has a D- rating for failure to respond to complaints going back to 2024. On a final note, about 3 months ago I went to the dealership to help my daughter buy a new Tucson. I saw that they had thousands of dollars in an add on price sticker for random add-ons. When I asked the salesperson if they were required, he said I could talk to his manager about that. The dealership in Carlsbad had the same sticker but it stated that those services were not required, and I confirmed that with the salesperson.
