I love this place, it's been a clutch late night eat, if you want proper food. I usually get the steak sandwich or the chicken sandwich. It's perfectly cooked meat and amazingly flavored.(Turkish peeps do meat amazing). And you have to get their appetizer sampler.(hummus, some yogurt stuff and some red peppery stuff). make sure u ask for extra Turkish bread with it. I have had their Donner kebab, Adana kebab and grilled chicken breast platters. Again all well executed dishes. But the item that brings me back is thier Kazandibi (milk pudding custard). It's soooo heavenly. I enjoy going to the nice sit down Turkish places like turquoise in roscoe village which is just another level. but I love this place bc it's cheap, fast, no frills and open late. read more

During the day you may not consider this little hole-in-the-wall place but in the evening it is one of the few places open in the area. Turkish focus: it seemed like there were many Turkish locals hanging out, the TV was playing in Turkish, others were huddling alone at their tables. The cultural norms are a bit different as another reviewer noted: the guys do stare at you and check you up and down before going back to their business. Very sparse/cheap in amenities and decor but really the main reason to be here is the food: cheap, plentiful, filling, and (I think) authentic confort food. The rice pudding was amazing, the meat was soft and tasted great with the chewy rice, and the salad dressing was sweet and tangy. Yes they have very good authentic Lentil soup. Lahmacun is not authentic, probably if somebdoy gave me a Lahmacun like this in Istanbul, I would beat the guy, not pay and leave. Kebaps are good. I think little pricey though. Pide is ok too, but definitely not as good as it is in Turkey. In overall they are doing good. Defintiely good place to stop for a lunch or late night snack. read more

Came here with a friend at 2am for some late night mostly because it was the only thing open but so glad we came! Very diner-like atmosphere and really friendly service. I had the kazandibi ($3) - Turkish milk pudding - which was FABULOUS. I've never had it before but it's like creme brûlée but infinitely better. The pudding is super creamy (though on the sweeter end in terms of desserts). It was the caramelized top that took this above and beyond though - the caramel flavor was incredibly strong but not overwhelming and went deliciously with the pudding. My friend had the cheese samosa ($1.50) which was buttery, herby, and cheesy too. Overall great late night option and excited to come back sometime for a real meal! read more

I pass by this cafe every day on my way to the CTA station, but I never tried the food or the drinks until my friend was craving turkish coffee. I suggested I-Cafe, and I'm glad I did. My friend ordered a turkish coffee, which came in a small tea cup, and it was very strong. On the counter, we spied these small almond cookies, which turned out to be honey almond cakes. The cake wasn't drenched in honey like Indian gulab jamun can be drenched in rose syrup. These two items alone were just 3 dollars! It was nearing dinner time, so I ordered a pide. Just as the menu states, it takes 20 minutes for the pide to bake. The meat filling was generous, and the crust/bread was crunchy. For 11 dollars, you get two slabs of pide, which makes for another filling meal. There is good service, but it can be slow because the food takes a while to be made, not because the staff are inattentive. The staff brought us two glasses of water and extra plates, without us asking. Most of the patrons are taxi cab drivers, which makes sense because the place is open almost 24/7. I like how the owner comes and talks with his patrons. Overall, good value for money and good food! read more

My girlfriend and I split the Turkish breakfast number 1 which consisted of three eggs over hard, sliced pepperoni cucumbers, tomatoes two kinds of cheeses and a hearty toast with jam. Everything was simple but well prepared and very tasty. We also had meat samsas. They were flaky and buttery on the outside and moist on the inside which was filled with meat, onions and spices. Went here for dinner last night with 2 friends. We had a Dabble class close by and I found this place on Yelp. And thanks to Yelp I knew we had to order the lahmacun, a flatbread pizza type dish which was delicious, between 3 we got 2 serves which was plenty as an appetizer. I then had the daily special for only $10 you get an adana kebab, rice, salad and bowl of lentil soup - bargain! The lentil soup was great, a big serve and I'd never squeezed lemon into lentil soup before but it came with it and it really added to it. The kebab was really good too and adding some chili sauce which was on the table on top worked well with it. Our friend got the yoghurt sauce kebab dish and it was like nothing we've ever had, creamy, and saucy, really good. We also had the turkish tea which was great. The only issue we had was that the flow of the food wasn't great. The waitress was really attentive and got our teas and the soups came out first. Then the pizza came out as appetizer, perfect. However we'd only just started the pizza and then the 2 of us who ordered the special had our entrees come out right away, it was difficult as we couldn't really fit everything on the table as we still had full soups and plates with the pizza. We squeezed it on the table and finished up our appetizers, but then we waited for probably a further 20min for our friends dish to come out, so it was awkward as we had our dishes for ages. It would have been better to hold off bringing our entrees out until they were all ready and then it would have given us time to eat all the appetizers too. But the waitress was very nice and the food was great, so the flow is only a small issue and only a bit more of a problem for us as we had to get going to our class. I ducked in here on a cold winter morning, when nothing else seemed to be open. I was instantly struck by three thoughts: it's super cozy in here, it smells amazing, and what are those pastries. I walked up to the counter and hoped the menu would be easy to figure out- yes, "Breakfast"! Easy! I ordered soup and a Turkish Breakfast II, then found a tiny table and waited for the wonders to arrive. Yes, there are two big TVs in here (soccer and news), the tables and setup are simple and laid-back. There were young guys drinking big cups of tea, a man reading a newspaper, and some older gentlemen just eating quietly, watching the news. I love this kind of place- It's sort of a cross between a diner, a coffee shop, and maybe an internet cafe vibe. I got the feeling it would be totally okay for me to hang out all day, drinking tea and ordering food every few hours or so. [Yes, all dudes here. It took me a minute to get used to feeling a little conspicuous, but the staff were so welcoming, I gave up and gave in.] The FOOD, friends: I had no preconceived notions of what a Turkish breakfast might be. My soup came first, along with the best darn tea I've had in a long time. The soup is a beautiful bright orange, fresh, hot, mildly spiced, and tangy from lemon juice. For $2.50, you need to order it every time you walk by this place. Don't like the idea of soup for breakfast? Get over yourself, and embrace it ;) Turkish Breakfast II includes a plate of sliced cucumber, tomato, two kinds of cheese, olives, and jam, with a nice hunk of bread. Somehow, I received a beef and onion samosa (perfect pastry, spiced, hot insides melting into the dough), though I'm not sure if it's part of the breakfast, or it was just a gift from the heavens. It's difficult to describe how comforting and perfect it was to dive into this breakfast in the middle of January, cold and hungry. It was at once light and refreshing, hearty, and fortifying. No eggs in this breakfast (they have other options that offer eggs, but this platter doesn't need em). The TEA: I'm a tea person, drink it every day without fail, and I miss it if I don't, even when there's coffee around. This tea is black, served strong, without sugar or milk. It's bracing, but amazing. I could have had a whole pot to myself. A note on the helpfulness of the staff: they accept credit cards through Square, which I know is a pain sometimes, but is very welcome, and I appreciate the effort. Found this place through the Yelp app. and it did not disappoint. It's a BYOB place and has a nice mellow vibe to it. Had the Lahmacun and babaganoush for appetizers. Everything was fresh and tasty. For dinner the combination plate for $20 dollars is a great deal with chicken lamb and beef. The nice lady at he end brought us some tea and cookies for dessert on the house. One of my favorite restaurants in the city. I love the pide! I have been coming here a few years and whenever somebody visits me from out of town, I always bring them here. Very casual environment and big menu. I have also been to a few different Turkish restaurants in the city and this one is my favorite.
