I was very interested in getting my boring old hair colored, and doubted that typical Asian salons knew what the "ombre" style is. I contacted Domenica, asking her if she was familiar with the ombre hairstyle, and she told me she was! Since I have a PICKY no-longer-hair-stylist mother, she was a bit uneasy about the residential location at first. However, her work place is absolutely adorable and posh. The decor is remarkable, and so hip. She plays calm, jazzy music, and provides all sorts of refreshments to make a customer comfortable. Domenica even put on a movie for my friend and me! I love how real and down to earth she is, and how she didn't see me as another "stupid" teenager like most hair stylists do. I respect that she took the time to know me, and made conversation. My hair looked nice in every stage of the process, when it was first colored, as the color faded, and even now with just the bleached color left over. Check out the pictures. Those of you who know me, know that I always get sick of the " same 'ole, same ole" stylists get caught up in if you've been going to them for a long time. I decided it was time for change and I found Domenica on Yelp. I studied all her pictures and read the reviews and was ready to completely turn over my head to her and have her work her magic. Not only is she a super-sweet person, but she's very up to date with technology and social media. I saw Domenica after my yet another attempt to become blonde . I bleached my hair twice ( not at her place ) and didn't feel my blonde hair. I felt horrible after my second session and texted Domenica @4am asking for help. She was able to see me next day and was trying to change the tone of my blonde and I didn't like it, so she did It again and told me that I won't leave till I like it. 5 star for a flawless bayalage! After month of contemplating, I finally went forward with booking a color appointment with Domenica. I actually saw her for a short consultation as I wasn't 150% sure of who I was letting to touch my hair. (yes, you can always "correct" bad hair color, but that is extremely damaging to ones hair) therefore, want to make sure this is a one-time hair color session. And since I met her prior to my appointment at the consultation, it got me a good sense of who she is. Her personal salon is really cute! Just her, nice conversations, tv, wifi, music, refreshments, snacks, magazines etc. Not a "shared" salon, where you are trying to avoid awkward eye contact with other customers. Just really making your (long) hours in the salon comfortable & enjoyable. I went in for a subtle-ombre in mind and came out with a really nice bayalage instead. The bayalage was beautifully executed, with great color that I told her to compliment my light skin tone and excellent placement of the color. The color was spot-on to look like your hair was sun-kissed/halo glow. Not streaky highlights. But I really wanted a "sombre" (as Domenica puts it) with gradient starting from my tips to my roots and not bayalage - hence the 3 stars. She is quite busy, so the online appointment slots does fill up fast and months in advance. So plan well. read more

Domenica is amazing! I made an appointment wanting to lighten my hair for the summer but not knowing exactly what I wanted. After talking to Domenica, we decided on two different shades of brown highlights to create depth and to compliment my natural dark brown colored hair. First of all: Domenica, thank you so much for the beautiful hair cut and style. LOL, one friend told me his jaw literally dropped when he saw my new style. Domenica met with me beforehand to so I could get a chance to speak with her about her haircutting philosophy and some fears I've built up over the years from going to bad hairstylists. I took in a few pictures of what I wanted done and left feeling confident she could do the job well. She was able to work me into her schedule in a couple days. I was really scared about cutting my hair after being butchered soooooo many times. I know my paranoia must've showed when I was in the salon chair. Domenica was very understanding. And the best part of all is that she really knows what she's doing and listens to what you want done with your hair. She offers suggestions as to what would look good but does not force them on anybody. She even offered tips on how to QUICKLY care for and style my hair, perfect for a nerdy, not-very-trendy person like me! I've become very conservative and fearful of hairstylists that just want to hack off my long hair because they are too lazy to do a decent cut on my length of hair. And, I have very thick and dreadfully straight hair. When I ask for layers bad stylists end up making my hair ends look stringy and octopus-like. Domenica did a fantastic job. She showed me hair can be FUN, not just a scary salon experience. Furthermore, she was totally understanding about my being on a budget because I am returning to graduate school. Loved it! I have had such terrible luck with getting my hair done. It was always between me not liking something about my hair cut/color and hating the whole thing. I was very hesitant to go to a new place to get my hair done but one day I just googled "best salons in milpitas" and I saw Domenica's ratings on yelp. I went ahead and contacted her and it was great! I came in with my own idea of what kind of hair cut and color I wanted but I asked for her opinion. I asked her what kind of cut and color she felt would look good on me and I just totally put all my trust in her. Everything turned out great! I love my hair color. I have always leaned towards light brown, almost but never blonde and she suggested a dark brownish red. You can see a hint of red when the sun hits my hair but it's not too loud. I had long hair and I asked for a short layered cut, but she added more to it by giving it a little edge using very subtle layers. Domenica did a great job with my hair. I told her my problems about other salons always cutting my bangs TOOO TOO TOO short which forced me to just trim my bangs myself. She trimmed mine perfectly!! I've been dying my hair since my teens, and have had many a hairdresser in my day. Sure, most are nice, but when you get chatty with a stylist as some tend to do (because hey, you're there for like two hours letting someone play with you hair), I always felt most of them were just faking the nice. They did decent to good work, but very few felt really nice. After moving out here from the East coast, I had no idea where to go to for to get custom highlights so I turned to Yelp and found "I Dig Your Hair" on there and saw the high ratings. Also, Domenica's studio isn't far from where I live. What I immediately liked is that I can book an appointment online, and Domenica is very good at confirming and being in touch. Already, an immediate like from me. So I go to my appointment and am greeted very warmly by Domenica, who gets right down to friendly business asking what I want to do. My game plan was bright red highlights with some caramel streaks framing my face. Which is a stylist's challenge since red dye practically jumps out of my hair after like, a day. Another thing I liked was, she didn't try to talk me out of what I wanted to suggest something more "current" or "trendy". She told me upfront how and if it would work and any little modification that she might have to do to get the look I wanted. Another good point in her favor. Now, let me get to what I loved most about this appointment- Domenica is AWESOME. She is very friendly in a way that doesn't feel fake and it genuinely felt we were both having fun playing with my hair. I can be chatty to a stylist because I sometimes get nervous when getting my hair done but she seemed pretty happy to chat away with me as she worked her magic. And it was magic. My results were fantastic and I was very happy with how it came out. Now this appointment was back in October and why I waited this long to leave a review was to see how long the highlights would last and I have to say, I'm damned impress with how long the red maintained. My streaks lasted a good 2 1/2 months before really noticeably fading. In short, Domenica is amazing, and she will do a fantastic job on your hair. She also has good coffee but nonetheless, I need to book another appointment soon for color touch up. I Dig Your Hair isn't a cheap stop and go mall salon, but it isn't outrageously expensive either, and you definitely get quality results for your price. After reading all the reviews from Yelp, I made an appointment with Domenica. She was so sweet and patient the entire time. I showed her pictures and talked to her about what I wanted. After hearing her suggestions, she went for it. The whole process (cut, color, eye brow wax) took 4 hours. During the process, she explained what she was doing to my hair and why she was doing it. I went to work the next day and never have I received so many compliments after getting my hair done. I felt like a celebrity! In regards to the eye brow wax, I have pretty sensitive skin and the wax that was used on me did not leave any real redness or irritation behind and the shape was very nice. I've been meaning to write a review for Domenica, because just like the other reviewers, she really is something special! My daughter was a little skeptical when we first drove up to her in-home salon, but once you are inside, it is very professional and welcoming. She does an excellent job of asking you questions to determine the best style for you and is so easy to talk to and sweet she makes you feel comfortable.
