I wanted to like this place but there was just something about the smell. And when it smells bad, that certainly ruins the food taste And the experience you want to have. When we walked into the restaurant the first time, there was this pungent cleaning smell...like the place was trying to cover another scent. The second time, same smell...maybe less strong because the olfactory got used to it from the first time. When we were seated, next to the wall separating us from the restroom, you could smell very strong urine. It was as if we were next to an open urinal. We moved across to the other table, but you could still smell it... at that point, it was time to leave. How can you eat food when all you can do is think about the malodorous whiff emitting from who knows where...food was ok the first time.. kind of hard to think about eating a second time though. I love this place! I don't go anywhere else for sushi. They can get busy in the evenings on the weekend so expect a short wait, but it's worth it. They are fast at getting the food out and the rolls are delicious! The only thing I will say negatively is that they close at 9 which is a little too early for those who want to go out for a later dinner, as I won't come in after 1 hour before closing. read more

Honestly, we go here at least once a week. Absolutely love the sushi here. Consistently great. Highly recommend the James Dean and Ronald Reagan. We love this place! Our family makes the drive from Sanger on a weekly basis. My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with Celiac's disease so we stopped dining out while we figured out gluten free options. Finally had the courage to ask about having some items changed around to be gluten free and staff was so accommodating and were not bothered by ALL my questions and concerns. They handled it with finesse. I should have never doubted our place as they have always made us feel so very comfortable. She had a James Dean roll with steamed shrimp instead of tempura fried and no sauce as they have gluten in them. I love the MuraMura roll and so many other items. Thanks to staff for everything (helping carry food out, being so friendly, taking my payment from my car because my kids fell asleep on the drive over and I couldn't leave them alone, for the edamame that my daughter enjoyed after weeks of not having our favorite foods....). Can't speak enough good things about this place and honestly can't believe how long it took me to post a Yelp review. Would love to see a gluten free menu or gluten free special sauce. Let me start by saying, I feel a little confused by this place. They do have a sushi bar, but a server takes ur order and brings ur food!!! Why have a bar if u don't interact with the sushi chefs!!!!!!!!!! The sushi chefs were farting around with each other and seemed to be having fun at work. They are all on the younger side, pumping out rolls by the hundreds. This place seems to serve at least 50 rolls. I don't think I would order any nigiri or sashimi here. This is definitely a roll place!!! Now to the food. The crazy edamame was good. We ordered three rolls. The Rolls Royce was good, alot of sauce though. I cant remember the names of the other 2, but they were tasty as well. The food here seemed to be good. The place was clean, but the bathroom was very dark!!!! Food was VERY salty.... Sushi roll was ok but nothing special. Waitress told us it was 50 cents to add on broccoli to my daughters meal and we clearly specified it had to be just plain steamed broccoli with nothing on it. The broccoli she brought had some sauce /juice on it. We asked for another just plain and she brought more with the same nasty juice. My daughter would not eat any of it. Then when the bill came she charged us $2.95 for a side of vegetables and $0.50 Extra for it being just broccoli. What happened to 50 cents??? She said that was the extra charge on top of the side charge??? This was not explained to us before ordering nor do I think their small bowl of nasty brown broccoli is worth $3.50!!! We complained and she said it didn't have anything on it when it was so obvious it was brown from having some sort of sauce/juice on it!!! The manager reversed the charge at the obvious dismay of the waitress even though my daughter did not have more than a bite. Needless to say we will NEVER return to this place. I Heart Sushi...I didn't want to try it at first due to funny sign. My husband introduced me to it and it is our favorite sushi in town. Great service, fresh fish, and priced perfect for location (odd spot on Shaw in Clovis wedged in between a pizza parlor and gas station). Rivals our faves in the Bay Area. Casual and fun. They can accommodate large and small groups. Good variety of uncooked and cooked rolls, and they serve great sashimi as well. Their cooked rolls are great, but the mural near the bar says it all...if fish was supposed to be cooked the ocean would be hot...something like that. read more

I only come here because it's so close to school (fresno state) and becauae my friends like it here, i have no idea why, BUT this place is very mediocre. Sushi rolls are TINY. It takes about 4 rolls to get me full, where as I could go to maroo, Sushiculture, or oiishi and only order 1, maybe 2 rolls and be stuffed there. And their rolls are drenched in sauces. Went here on a Valentine's date with my sister and brother-in-law, yea, you read that right, I was third wheelin' it because my husband is deployed. Anyway, I'm a relatively new sushi lover, but now I can't get enough of it. My sis swears by this place. They're menu is basically a manual it's so long. I stuck with the non-raw sushi cause I'm just not hardcore enough to go in the raw yet. My sis and I both had the James Dean roll, which was freaken awesome, but my favorite was the BlackJack. Don't be afraid of it cause it's rockin' the eel, it is awesome and the teriyaki sauce adds just enough sweetness. My bro-in-law is partial to the Mafia roll and my sis dug the veggie roll, too. The waitress was very attentive and the service was great. Minus one star because they're mildly high priced (I'm used to cheaper sushi cause I live in SD where it's in abundance) and I hate it when you can't order a half roll. This location is within walking distance to my house so we went again, even though I found my new favorite sushi place alll the way across town. Again, the service was excellent. Our waitress tried to help me choose a new roll to try. I had difficulty choosing one that appealed to me. I can't have spicy, I don't like cream cheese, and I like fresh rolls....many of the rolls had the things I didn't care for. They were very accommodating and the waitress offered to modify rolls to my liking (which was very nice but I declined). I tried a roll with scallops and it was ok. There wasn't much scallops on the roll, it was small, and wasn't anything special. I tried some fabulous seaweed salad. I'd order that again. I found the portions small and compared to the prices and amounts I get at my new favorite place, it was very disappointing here. I'll only be back when I don't want to drive. I'm no Sushi snob... but I have to say that this is hands-down the best sushi I have ever eaten (and I live in LA!). I was out in the area visiting family when they took us to their favorite sushi spot in the area, and i'm so glad it was this place! Amazing sushi, tasted so fresh, not fishy at all, and an array of flavors. My usual complaint about sushi is that it can either be too bland or too fishy.... this place has found one of the best blends around in my opinion! I'm sad I don't live closer or I would probably frequent this place at least once a week. The only reason I took off a star was because it took quite a while to seat us (people that came after us were mistakenly seated first and didn't have a prior reservation), people who were seated after us had their order taken first by the same waitress, and said waitress was nice but really ditsy and kept forgetting our order. This is some of the best sushi in the Fresno/Clovis area especially for the price. My boyfriend and I love going out to sushi but are continually disappointed with many other places. I love sushi was tasty, friendly and fun. We took our 11 year old son who is picky and he found something he liked also and then ate all of it. In addition I have food allergies and tend to have more trouble finding food I can eat at sushi then eating. I love sushi worked around my allergy (since everything is made to order) which allowed me to have a wonderful meal. This I by far the best sushi restaurant in the fresno area. I have been to most all of the popular sushi joints around town (wassabi, yoshinos, asuka, jap kitchen, etc..) and none of them compare to the quality, price, and customer service I Love has to offer. The fish they use is fresh, the rolls are always good size and decently priced, and their daily specials are always a great deal. The customer service is another key asset that makes this place so outstanding. As soon as you walk in you are cheerfully greeted by the entire staff who are always prompt to get you your preferred seating choice. Juan, who is one of the managers, always seems to make you feel welcome and does anything to accommodate your needs. Everytime I have been there he has come up to my table at least once to make sure everything was ok and if there was anything I needed, which seems to be a rare occurance at certain other sushi restaurants I have been to. The lettuce in the salad had a funny taste. They need to make sure they wash it and what they cut on really well like for instance don't wipe with a dirty rag, and on another occasion, the slushi was fine, just wasn't as good as usual.
