I ordered chicken teriyaki, short ribs and miso soup. What endeared me to this place, was the chef coming out and asking people if their food was alright. For many places, no one seems to care if you enjoy your food. And, the chef avoids any contact with customers, so this was a welcomed move. Their chicken teriyaki was good not overcooked and chewy. I have lived just up the street for almost 16 years and in that amount of time this place has NEVER let me down in ANY way. Always THE most delicious, fresh food out of any teriyaki place and what's more, they have the biggest portions for the most reasonable prices. If I am home and I go out of my way to go to another teriyaki place may God strike me down. I'm going to be honest I hate teriyaki in Seattle, I call it Teri-yucky. But Ichi Bento has absolutely changed my mind. I had take out and was working on stuff for a solid 20-30 minutes before eating this and it was still the best teriyaki I've had here. Maybe in general. Most places when you get tempura as take out it gets all soggy and sad but boy, does ichi bento know their stuff. Tempura was spot on, crispy, and the sauce was great. Kids hate eating their broccoli? Give them this and they'll be asking for more. Ordered the deluxe beef bento box as take out and for 16 dollars, I had enough food to feed a small family. This was a hidden gem to find! Unassuming stand alone building near nothing else with an appearance that most people wouldn't even give a look. I believe it's run by a Japanese couple with the wife up front and the husband cooking, but I didn't ask about it. They had a friend/regular stop by and chat it up while I was there. Anyway, I had the chicken katsu and it was great. My standards on Japanese food are relatively high. The katsu was super tender and the breading was light and crispy. Definitely better than your standard fare at one of the many generic teriyaki places. I'll have to try the chicken teriyaki here that everyone else raves about. read more

I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by to see if Ichi Bento was surviving COVID. They are! You can't eat inside. They had a brisk walk up business. Some places orders at counter and waited outside. Others called in and picked up. Ichi Bento brings out your food when it is ready. They have two picnic tables outside for those who want to eat there. I usually do not like chicken but the chicken katsu is out of this world good. Gyoza and miso are exceptional. This has to be our favorite for Teriyaki! I am not even sure how many times we've ordered take out from here but enough that I hold the current "dutches" rank! The staff is always friendly. Dad's in the kitchen, Mom rolls the sushi and their daughter runs the front of the house. We tend to order the Katsu, Shrimp Fried Rice and Kal-Bi. All of their dished come with a side salad and on occasion, they may run out of salad but kindly provide you with another serving of rice! The food has a close similarity to Ezogiku in Hawaii. Ichi Bento is especially nice on those days I crave Ezogiku's "shrimp fried rice". The katsu is my friends favorite. Crispy and plentiful! Last visit, we had so much katsu it had to have it's own container separate from the rice! Good for those days we are too lazy to make our own katsu! I especially like the Kal-bi because it reminds me of the Korean restaurants in Hawaii. All Ichi Bento would need is some Meat Jun and Kimchi! YUM! The only reason it's 4 star instead of 5 is because their broccoli tempura ends up with uncooked batter on the inside due to the nature of broccoli's nooks and crannies. Made a phone order and the food came out in 15 minutes as they informed us; we got Short Ribs Bento Box with extra order of 2 Shrimp Tempuras and an order of Chicken Yakisoba and the total came out to be $30 and some change. The Short Ribs were well-cooked but everything else was just average. The tempura's breading were too much and heavy, and the Chicken Yakisoba was too salty and greasy. OK so I lied. I came back to Ichi Bento! This time, I was more impressed. I still did take out but the food tasted better for some reason. I drank some of the free green tea while we waited and it was hot and tasty. I didn't plan on eating too much from my boyfriend's teriyaki chicken bento, but I finished the salad, half the fried tempura and a few bites of his chicken. The salad dressing was so good? Great bento lunch special, so much quality food for such a steal! Service is fast and friendly and they are smart enough to cut small holes in the lids of their takeout containers so condensation doesn't gather and as a result, crispy items stay crispy! The tempura included squash, broccoli, onions, shrimp and MUSHROOMS (my favorite) and it was not at all greasy. A rarity. Doesn't look like much from the outside but this place is definitely a gem. Very much a local joint. We stopped in on our way to a job at the airport in Bellingham from Seattle. My coworker noticed the Christmas icicles still draped on the eves and wondered what could be contained within. It's well off I5 so it's more than a quick stop but worth it, I think. The older lady and man servicing the counter and kitchen are cordial but austere like the couple in American Gothic. The interior belies the aging storefront: clean and neat. The menu is American Teriyaki: gyoza, egg rolls, tempura, udon, teriyaki, yakisoba, fried rice and a few sushi rolls. They have serve yourself drinks in a cooler, water, soda fountain or hot tea. We took a chicken teriyaki and shrimp fried rice (because other reviewers' pics looked so good) for less than $17. The served up the teriyaki quickly and the fried rice several minutes behind. I loved my rice! Plenty of shrimp, egg, vegetables including green beans and lima beans (interesting). Not salty or greasy at all. Just scrumptious and minimalist the way I like it!
