Was invited to a birthday party at this restaurant on Irlo Bronson Highway and the birthday girl explained it was a Japanese, Chinese and American buffet with a Hibachi Grill, featuring over a 100 items. Had never been there or even heard of it, so my curiosity took over and thought I would try it. The restaurant looked clean and there were many stations. The first thing you see are the sushi items. Not a fan but tried one or two vegetarian sushi and they were just ok. However, was impressed with the numerous stations featuring salad, many desserts, shrimp, mussels, oysters, all traditional Chinese dishes, soups, made to order Hibachi, pizza, chicken and many other American dishes, plentiful desserts as well. As a senior, the bill was only $6.85 for lunch, a great deal. My complaint was lukewarm food, not identifying the different dishes properly and not properly replenished on some dishes. For the most part, the dishes were tasty and for all you can eat, the price was excellent and the restaurant was clean, an important fact in a Chinese restaurant. read more

I have lived here in Orlando for a decade and eaten at a countless number of Asian/Chinese/Japanese buffet restaurants all over town (current or permanently closed), so I know what I look for when getting the best bang for my buck. When reading up the Sentinel one day (yeah I know, sad that people like me get the newspaper these days), I came across a clipping for a 25% off coupon for marketing the grand opening of Ichiban Buffet on I-Drive located just across from Fun Spot. Naturally, curiosity led me to read up the Yelp reviews and photos of the restaurant which I found everything on the positive end. I decided right then to take the family out there this past Thursday night for dinner, and wow, that place hit it right on all high notes. Here are the bullet points: - The first thing you will notice when you step in the place is the appealing interior décor. Everything from the colored ambient lighting on the glass alongside the booths and tables to the clean floor tiling. I'm particularly a strong believer that appearance is everything, so I knew that we were about to enjoy a nice sit-down meal in an inviting buffet. - I love the presentation of the 360-degree layout of the sushi/hibachi section. Plenty of varieties of sushi/sashimi were served that night, as well as the items for the hibachi (although I didn't get a chance to try it due to being full but will on the next visit). You can constantly see the chefs preparing the sushi items and interact with them too. - Some of the quality foods from the buffet that stood out for me from the visit include: salt and pepper deep fried crab, spicy crawfish, clams cooked in black bean sauce, house fried rice and the apple crisp from the dessert station. The only item I encountered that I wanted to try but didn't appeal to me was the raw oysters as they didn't look that fresh like in the other buffet places I've been to. Hopefully the management will see and address this (perhaps include lemon slices and horseradish on the side) as I know many buffet enthusiasts enjoy it and will keep coming back for it. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit at Ichiban Buffet (also thanks to the 25% off coupon) and will certainly come back soon. You can't go wrong getting great value for a $11.99 dinner buffet service (and $1.99 for fountain drinks with free refills). Also one more tip: if you don't have access to the 25% off coupon from the newspaper, there is a 15% off grand opening special when you check-in from the Yelp app on your phone. Opened only a month ago and the restaurant looks great. Service was great. Food was very tasty. TIP: if you want shrimp fried rice, beef fried rice, or chicken fried rice, ask the Hibachi chef to prepare it fresh. We sat directly across from the chef and he was a great entertainer as well as a great personal chef. Mehhhh, I wasn't impressed. The food was ok but there wasn't a whole heap of variety and I did not like the hibachi experience at all. They do not let you make your own plate, instead you have to tell them what u want and that conversation never goes well because the person tasked with taking and preparing orders doesn't speak good English.... Coincidentally, he didn't speak Chinese, Mandarin or Japanese either... He spoke Spanish, go figure. So after you wait in line you get to repeat your order to the grill master several times, cut down the list of things you want so as not to seem as greedy as you really want to be and then wait 5+ minutes for him to cook your food. Is this a Florida thing?? I'm used to being able to make my own plate, hand it to the cook and get it prepared and choose the flavor of sauce I want on it. The way they were doing it seemed off to me. I digress... The desserts were not good. I just wasn't feeling it. I'm used to a much better quality buffet for the same price. Oh, and parents... Apparently they charge you for kids over 3 feet regardless of age. And no, they did not pull out a ruler, they just eyeballed it. Of course there's no signage stating this. read more

Overall, Ichiban was pretty nice. It was super close to work, which is nice, and cheap. I went there for lunch with some friends from work, they were able to sit us down immediately. Took our drink orders, allowing us to go right to the buffet. The Sushi menu was ok, it was a lot of the same. They didn't replenish the rolls as often and the taste was eh. I was super excited to find a sushi bar, especially an all you can eat one. The Chinese portion was full, but tasted about the same as the Sushi. It was sort of a let down, I would probably go back, but mostly because of the price and proximity to work. read more

Food: It had a bit more variety of sashimi and sushi compared to other cheap Asian buffets, The sushi was actually fresher than other buffets I have been to and I was pretty impressed with the variety of sushi and sashimi available. I didn't try the hibachi since my main focus was eating all the seafood and crab legs. The crab legs were watery and it took awhile to restock the crab legs. The best thing was it has eight different flavors of ice cream. Service: I did not run into any rude staff members. The waitresses were nice. The sushi chef cut me a pile of salmon sashimi even though I didn't ask - he just offered and gave me a pile of newly cut salmon sashimi. I did show the waitress my 10% off for checking in early on because I read another Yelper had issues with getting the 10% off. I rate this 3.5-4 stars because it is an above average Asian buffet compared to others. read more

I have a theory that all Chinese buffets across the country share one recipe book and one food supplier. Ichiban does nothing to dispel that theory. It's the same food, the same taste, the same style as every other Chinese buffet. Soupy General Tso chicken, sticky honey chicken, bland beef. It's ok, but nothing to write home about. A larger desert selection was nice, with lots of ice cream. I don't eat sushi, but my wife said they had a nice variety and it was fresh and tasty. She enjoyed it. The hibachi grill was good. I had steak and chicken with fried rice. It was a bit under flavored, but overall tasty. On the whole, there is nothing extraordinary here. It's your normal buffet with sushi and hibachi. Nothing bad that would keep me from recommending it, just nothing above expectation. read more

Nice place with good buffet food and very good price. Lunch $7.99 dinner $12.99. Dinner has fresh oyster and add $5 for snow crab legs. We went two times during our trip, one dinner and one lunch. Typical selection and hibachi and decent sushi bar. Have shrimp on stick and japanese marcel fish to grill as well. In the tourism area this is good location and nice value. The only thing is child above 4 charge $8 for dinner, which is on the high side for place like this. Tip :Use Yelp or local coupon book to get some discount. read more

Made my way to speak with the manager MJ, we were escorted off to our private room where our table awaited. Our attendant exceeded our expectations and the verity of buffet selections was remarkable. Dine-in customers eat more seafood than what we could put in 1 to-go container. Charged us $15 each instead of $10. Don't recommend carry-out for pescatarians or those who enjoy seafood. I thought the food was decent until they started harassing their customers. An individual making sushi got upset because I was grabbing sushi that was more fresh rather than the older stuff. The gentlemen making the sushi started yelling at me and when I attempted to speak back he told me to shut up. After trying to ignore it and going around the bar again the worker at the bar proceeded to show me his middle finger, laugh and say "fuck you". When trying to confront management they started laughing. It sounds ridiculous until you experience it yourself. A lot of items were mislabeled, especially at the sushi bar. The line for the grill was always very long, even though they had a 1 order per person rule. For Asian buffets, this stands a bit above the rest of the field in terms of quality and selection. This buffet has mainly Chinese and Japanese items. They have sushi freshly made and a Hibachi Grill chef that takes your order that is included with the buffet, which I thought was very well priced at $12 for adult. I had Hibachi shrimp and scallops with fried rice (hibachi cooked). It was very tasty, but the scallops were about the size of a hot cocoa mini marshmallow. I did not know they harvested scallops that small!! I did not have to wait very long, but can see how there could be a wait if it is busy as there was only 1 hibachi chef. I also had the pot stickers and these were better than at most buffets, though they were slightly burnt. They had a good selection of sea food and even raw oysters. The restaurant is pretty clean compared to others and the atmosphere is nice. I would eat here again because of the price, quality, and selection. I rate this place with the menu pricing at 4 stars (for buffets), 3.75 stars for the food quality and 4 stars for the selection. read more

Just a tip: don't go to this buffet after 8:30pm in any night. 9 times out of 10, the food isn't being replenished after 8:30. Finding a good Chinese buffet in the south is hard... and I can say in Orlando I'll keep searching. The food was mediocre and a lot sat under the heat lamps for a little too long. They do have quite a selection to choose from including a sushi and hibachi bar. The hibachi was pretty good and the sushi was decent. I enjoyed being able to see the food prep area for the sushi. While my server was polite, I saw him maybe two times the whole hour or so my friend and I were there. While getting sushi, the air conditioning unit was dripping from the ceiling near the sushi area. By one of the food areas I found a small, what appeared to be German Cockroach, running around the surface of one of the food areas. The restaurant itself has an "unclean" appearance and would do well with a good scrub down and fresh coat of paint. The price of dinner for an adult is approximately $12 and they charge $30 for food wastage. While there, the place was very busy and had many customers.
