    Oyster pancake / oyster omelette
    Diana H.

New Teochew spot that opened around four months ago (October 2025). The two owners are from Chaoyang, Shantou so the food is authentic, especially the oyster pancake- super crispy and full of plump oysters! Rice noodles were silky, beef tender, and broth homey and clean. Taokay in Teochew means "boss". Server was attentive, offering complimentary house made chili paste to compliment with the dishes. Inside is nicer than your usual hole-in-the-wall.

Second time here and worth a review. Truly feels like hole in the wall. Both times we went restaurant was mildly empty but IYKYK. English menu translation is bit confusing, but the food for sure made up for it. NOTE: the lobster, crab, and fish pricing requires to bring your own! Didn't know about it the first time but was sure to come back with our own fishes the second time around and saw other groups doing same. Came as party of 6, and we each had diff faves from the menu. That's the definition of a solid restaurant! All winning dishes no single unanimous one. Ordered: 1. Mushroom with beef 2. Olive fried rice with shrimp (first time seeing this outside of Singapore what a treat!) 3. Chaoshan wet stir fry beef (beef ho fun) 2. Semi boil fish (bring your own fish) 2. Claypot fish (bring own fish)

Taokay blew me away with their incredible dishes. The raw marinated shrimp was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Both lobster dishes--one with ginger and scallion, the other spicy with chili--were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The quality, plating, and service were all top-notch. Must order ahead for lobster or live seafood dishes or bring your own seafood!

    House special.

Food was mediocre at best. Busy during lunch time though, don't understand the hype. Ordered the chaoshan mixed he fun. Meat was inconsistently cooked. Some were dry while some were tender. The oysters were so gross, definitely frozen. Tasted like spoiled seafood. Atmosphere was nice. The AC was also broken that day, hot asf and definitely ruined the ambience. Servers were also very nonchalant. Needs improvement in multiple aspects

The dishes at their restaurant are the best.

The dishes at their restaurant are the best. I always go there on weekends to check it out. The boss never uses MSG or chicken powder in his cooking; he always uses the most natural seasonings

Recommended by the friend of mine, really enjoyed this spot! The food took little more time to prepared but definitely worth of waiting, it came out hot and fresh, and everything had great flavor. Portions were generous for the price. Service was quick and friendly, and the vibe inside felt relaxed but still lively. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm craving fresh hometown food.

Loved this spot! Food was fresh and flavorful (the oyster pancake is a must ). Chill vibe, friendly staff, and prices are super fair. Totally worth coming back with friends!

I thought maybe they were the same restaurant, but they are not. Although they both serve similar bold and delicious Vietnamese dishes. It is located in a small plaza called San Gabriel Gateway. Parking above ground is limited, but they also do have underground parking available. My daughters and I were the first customers. Inside dining space was spacious, cozy, and comfy. Love the quaint Asian street hanging billboard decor! We sat at a bench for better backing. Staff was welcoming and greeted us right away. They were quite attentive when we needed something during our dining. Thank you All! Menu was huge! Quite a variety of different protein dishes. Prices were average especially for seafood. I am a big seafood fan so my eyes were on them mostly. I wanted to try all their best sellers. I may have missed a few, but we got 11 dishes total which I was very pleased with for the most part. Everything was fresh and of good quality. Portions were big. We chowdowned like champs LOL. 31. Razor Clams Grilled with Scallion Oil - First time trying razor clams. An interesting dish. Taste was great, but nothing that says WOW. What's the difference between razor and regular clams? Razor is a longer version. Their meat is more tender and sweet. 33. Scallops with Quail Eggs - A best seller indeed! Came out on a sizzling plate. PERFECT in its colorful presentation and flavorful taste! Caution when hot. Will get again. 43. Grilled Squid with Chili Salt - One big squid all sliced up! Love the grilled taste, but squid itself was a bit chewy. Will pass on it next time. 57. Sea Snails in Coconut Milk - Coconut milk was smooth and creamy. Slightly disappointed on the small snail size. Not much meat. Will try another snail dish on my next visit. 65. Charcoal-Grilled Beef - I didn't try this because I don't eat beef anymore. My daughters loved it though. Tender and wonderfully marinated beef slices. YUM! 67. Stir-Fried Glass Noodles with Crab Meat - Similar to the fried rice version, but just with glass noodles. Good, but rice was better. 76. Hong Kong-Style Salt & Pepper Chicken Cartilage - I'm not a fan of chicken cartilage, but salt & pepper seasoning was well balanced. Good amount of cartilages on the plate. 88. Fried Chicken Gizzards with Garlic - Gizzards were a bit tough. Entire sizzling plate was a tad salty. Won't get this again. 94. Fried Rice with Crab Meat - Quite flavorful and tasty! Dish was perfectly wok'ed and seasoned. It's not marked as a favorite on the menu, but A MUST GET in my book! 101. Mango and Squid Salad - One of the best dishes! SO DELICIOUSLY GOOD!! Green mango strips were crisp and crunchy. Squid was tender. Love the citrus marinate. Very fresh and good quality salad! GET IT EVERY TIME! 115. Singapore-Style Frog Congee - Cooked in claypot, sauce was a bit salty, frog legs weren't the moistest, won't get it again There you have it on our take on alot of food. Nothing special to drink, but water for us. We took home just a few items because we ate most of it here. Oddly enough, the food item names were in Vietnamese writing on the bill. I had to cross reference the numbers to the items on the menu to figure out which was what. Anyway, total bill was $222.00 including tip out the door. Averaged $20+ per dish. Cool beans! Scrumptious foods comboed with great service in cool ambiance is all worth it! Highly recommend. Yes, I'll be back soon!

We were seated right away when we arrived, although it took a while before anyone came to take our order. We started with the sizzling razor clams, and honestly, they were the highlight of the meal, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and a great start. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, and it really missed the mark. Several ingredients felt poorly prepared. The tendon was so tough it was basically inedible and had to be pushed aside. The pork blood tasted like it had been cooked separately since it had none of the broth flavor soaked into it. Even the beef slices felt out of place, almost like they had been pulled from a pho bowl and dropped into the BBH at the last minute. The broth itself lacked the richness, spice, and strong lemongrass flavor that normally makes Bun Bo Hue stand out. It just tasted flat. There was also a mix-up with our order when the wrong dish came out instead of the lobster. When the lobster finally arrived, it was badly overcooked and much smaller than what was shown on the menu. On top of that, the music was blasting the entire time, no one really checked in to see how things were going, and it took multiple attempts just to get our check. When we mentioned the food issues, the response was basically, "We'll let the chef know." Not exactly the kind of service you hope for after a disappointing meal. Really wanted to like this place, especially after such a strong start with the razor clams, but overall it ended up being a letdown.

Because the wait time was too long for that, we decided to try The Dive Oyster Bar -- and man are we sure glad we did. We got a total of five items: a bowl of clam chowder, the soft shell crab appetizer, the roasta, the traditional pan roast with the house speciality protein (with the crab on the side because of my dad's crab allergy), and the jambalaya, which for the last three we ate with medium heat. We shared everything (except for the crab appetizer because, again, crab allergy for dad) and found the food to be delicious, with each entree coming out tasting better than the last. Personally, the roasta was my favorite with the pan roast as a close second. Very flavorful dishes with medium heat being a good level for us (wasn't spicy for our Korean palates). Service was great, our server (unfortunately forgot his name) was attentive and quick with our requests, and although he forgot a side of rice, it was for the best as the food had settled in our stomachs by then and we were content with what we ordered. The restaurant itself is well maintained with ample table space and appropriate lighting, though the music from the evening DJ was a tad bit too loud to hear from across the table. Not a big mood killer for us, though mostly because the good was that good. We're not from this area, so the odds of coming here again are relatively slim -- but should the opportunity present itself, it'll be more than fate this time to take us through these doors once again.

My friend and I were mid-meal when two staff members bussed nearby tables. While clearing leftover dishes, soup and food splatters splashed directly onto my face. I attempted to flag them down to ask them to work more carefully, yet they immediately wheeled their cart away without a single apology. We are both quiet, reserved people and chose not to chase them down at that moment. Later, nearly finished with our meal, we realized two skewers of chicken bone-in skewers we ordered had never arrived. We waved repeatedly to grab servers' attention, but one kept wiping the fridge, while two others stood chatting at the front counter and completely ignored all diners. When we finally caught one server, he did not check the kitchen at all and simply claimed our skewers were still being grilled. We waited another 20 minutes with no sign of our food, then stopped a different staff member to follow up--they vanished and never returned to update us. Another full 20 minutes passed before the skewers finally showed up. It is completely unreasonable for simple grilled skewers to take 40 minutes to prepare, especially when the restaurant was far from busy. The checkout process was the most frustrating part of our visit. We waved multiple times requesting our bill; two servers clearly saw us. A female staff told her male coworker to print checks for our table and the table in front of us, but he only delivered the bill to the other party and left ours unattended for ages. We even submitted a checkout request via their online ordering page and waved again to signal we were ready to pay. The front desk staff only gave us an OK hand gesture but took zero action. We were continuously overlooked for no apparent reason, while all staff stood around idle with no sense of urgency to assist guests. Fed up with waiting indefinitely, we walked over to the front counter to pay ourselves. As we approached, the staff tried to duck off to the kitchen or start random cleaning tasks to avoid handling our payment. The entire team lacks basic customer service training and common courtesy. The consistent disregard for diners, careless table bussing, massive food delays, and negligent checkout handling make this place not worth your time or money. Save yourself the hassle and pick a different spot.
