It makes me so happy to see Icicles opening up new locations! The first one in Willow Glen was always so packed with such long lines, I always dreaded the wait yet was always craving for a cup of their Gotcha Matcha. Believe me when I say their rolled ice cream is one of a kind. There are many other dessert places that are also serving it, but I think Icicles has it down. The concept is fairly simple, each flavor has a cream base and depending on what you order, it will come with fresh fruits or toppings that are added right on top of the base and you just keep mixing it together as it starts to freeze. I always order the Gotcha Matcha, which is just green tea ice cream (this one only has the ice cream base, no toppings mixed in). I like to top it off with some fresh strawberries, a roasted marshmallow, chocolate waffle bits, and condensed milk. Trust me, it's bomb! I like that the ice cream is not too sweet, you can really taste the matcha, and every bite just has me wanting more. As much as I love ice cream, it's usually hard for me to finish a whole cup to myself but that's not the case here. I always finish and pretty fast too. This location has 7 different stations so the wait isn't too bad. Also, for just opening a few days ago, I think they are very efficient and quick. This place is well deserving of 5 stars, however I knocked off one star because it's pretty expensive. A cup of rolled ice cream came out to be $7.45 and that's more expensive than getting a tub of ice cream! It is really good but I'm not sure it's worth almost $8... especially if you have to wait a while. Overall, if you haven't tried it - go now! Awful service. Really long wait times and delivered incorrect order.

Growing up, kids often fantasize that one of the best things about being an "adult" is that you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want. Pizza for breakfast? Skittles for lunch? Ice cream for dinner? Sure why not - and it's the latter that I was craving one week... twice. Seeing that Icicles at this location closes at 10pm (time confirmed on Yelp, Google Maps, *and* their company website), was excited to get ice cream after work on Tuesday. So, headed over there around 9:30pm, only to have three of the workers say that they've already turned off the ice cream machines (whatever makes the ice cream making station cold) and that they're closing. Didn't bother to ask why they were closing early and frankly was pretty bummed, but thought......... I'll get over it. And I was over it..... until Thursday. Again, after work around 9:20pm I was excited to go to Icicles a solid 40 minutes before closing... certainly they should be open this time. Sadly, when I walked into the store, I was told yet again that they were closing early. The difference being that the ice cream making station was still clearly on/cold because they were making one for a lady. "She's our last customer," I was told. Out of confusion (again), walked back out to my car without questioning and saw a couple walking over to the store. I told them what I was told, and they both responded in disappointment and confusion as well. Not really sure why this location keeps closing early, but they're missing out on paying customers. If hours are going to be changed, that's fine, would be great if you can pls update your signs somewhere. Don't get me wrong, the ice cream here is good (why else would I come back twice in a week?) so I do suggest visiting during the daytime. Honestly not sure when I'll personally visit next, because apparently I only crave it after 9pm and, well, they will probably be closed :( read more

I've notice one of the girl didn't tie her long silver hair and making ice cream also at the same time feeding her boyfriend while they are both working. Food: we ordered #8 ice cream was hard I think is way too hard. The first bite I can taste the Nutella and banana after couple bite is getting sweeter and sweeter to the point I can't eat it anymore. I've been wanting to try this place since I saw it on yelp for San Jose's locations, but now that this location is closer to my house, I just haaaad to try it~ We came right before the evening rush around 6:45pm on a weekday and ordered a Gotcha Matcha. You order your flavor of ice cream ($7.50 each) at the cashier and then you tell them all your toppings later after they're "rolled" it up. Watching them make the ice cream was fun and entertaining because I've always seen them do it on Facebook and whatnot lol. But we got brownie bites, cheesecake bites, and mocha. I didn't know that the cheesecake was like lemon/keylime pie flavored so it didn't really mix well with my matcha ice cream... wouldn't really recommend it for any of the flavors unless you're 100% obsessed with it lol. The ice cream tasted wonderful...but the store itself was filthy. The floor was sticky and clearly not cleaned recently. The tables were not wiped off and had dried up ice cream on them. This is my second time having Icicles and im actually a fan of it. Its such a big trend now to have rolled ice cream made in front of you! But what can i say, it's such a creative way to eat ice cream. It was my first time at this location and it was pretty busy. But what i loved about this place the most is that they made someone feel special on their birthday. Not only do you get a free ice cream, but they announce it to the whole place and sing happy birthday. Every time someone had a birthday, they went all out and you can hear it from the outside. I loved it. What we got: We got the strawberry fantasy. It was SO GOOD!!! My new favorite choice! It has strawberries, graham crackers, and condense milk with choice of toppings. What we put on top of it was a roasted marshmallow, whipped cream, sprinkles and nuts. SO GOOD Great atmosphere and great experience coming here. Everyone is so kind and great customer service. I came here with my company after a long day of studying and good Chinese dinner. Someone in my group suggest that we checked this place out because they had rolled ice cream and I have never had that before. I don't eat ice cream at all because I'm lactose intolerant but they serve sorbet, non-dairy ice cream, and so I thought I'd check it out. The staff greeted me with a smile, it's a small little hole in the wall in side of an Asian market, but it seemed great for young people and they had many options available. For about $7.49, you can get ice cream in a cup of your choice with unlimited toppings. What they do is they mixed ice cream on a cold plate flatten it out and roll it in front of you. They chop it and ice it and roll it up until it's nice and pretty you can see my pictures. Then they ask you what toppings you want which you can add as many toppings as you like, which is way better than frozen yogurt were you charge by the pound. so I made sure to load up my strawberry lemonade ice cream full of Mochi and raspberry cream and more strawberries.. It was a little on the sweet side, and I wasn't too keen on the texture of the rolled ice cream but overall was still good if you want dessert and something sweet. I came for the free ice cream - thanks Yelp Elite East Bay team for arranging! So I would say I'm a believer of getting the bad news first. The "bad" (that wasn't even all that bad) was the wait we endured on a Thursday night. And I don't think it was due to the Yelp Elites because the other groups ahead of us were paying. There were 3 employees working and their system was to fulfill several orders before ringing up more customers. So a line formed and it was kinda hard to tell where you start, especially because we walked in from the door inside the mall. Should we start at the end where the ice cream is being made or near the toppings and cashier? My brain told me where the ice cream is being made because well, that's how the process starts. But no, you start at the cashier. But that's all that was "bad" about our experience! So the takeaway is to start from the cashier side so your experience can be A+++! Boyfriend ordered the "All Fudged Up" which comes with brownie bites, caramel cubes, and chocolate. Boyfriend got it with...condensed milk and cinnamon toast crunch (?) for toppings. The result was amazing! Creamy and sweet. I was gonna do the "Matcha Berry" but ended up with the "Fruit Roll Up" instead and I have ZERO regrets! Boyfriend and I wanted to try both dairy and non-dairy for the ultimate experience, and they separated their dairy and non-dairy menus so it's much easier for the lactose-intolerant. The "Fruit Roll Up" is mango, raspberry, and strawberry lemonade, and I added strawberries and condensed milk as toppings. It was so perfect even though the mango was overwhelmed by the strawberry lemonade and raspberry. The sweetness, tartness, and the texture were the ultimate blend for a non-dairy option. I also don't know how rolled ice cream stays in that form so much longer than other forms of ice cream. However, I'm not sure if it's because my ice cream wasn't dairy but it didn't roll properly so the dude just kinda had to shove it into the bowl. It all looks the same after the toppings but still. Also, when you receive your ice cream (between the ice cream making and toppings areas), you'll see several metal containers with spoons in them. Since there's not really an option to sample ice cream, you shouldn't need to worry about any dirty sample spoons, which is what Boyfriend originally thought. Anyway, all this ice cream made my lips numb, especially in this cold wintery weather, but it was pretty worth it. All in all, it was a great experience. I had no clue about how the rolled ice creams were made; and that was an amazing experience - quite unique. Being the first timers, we were staring at the menu and wondering what to order. One of the employees noticed us and offered her assistance in picking up the flavor. She explained our options and different toppings available. Strawberry fantasy and Oreo Blast were our choices. Then came the fun part - they started making the ice cream and rolled it right after that. It was pure artistry at work, and they were doing it to the perfection. They were talking to us while making it and explained each steps they are it. It was pretty impressive! Opted cheesecake bites, Roasted Almonds, Fruity pebble along with condensed milk as topping for the Strawberry Fantasy. Fruity pebble, Rainbow Sprinkles and Caramel drizzle for the Oreo blast. Another specialty dessert place, this time in the form of rolled ice cream! Came here at night on a weekday and there was still a line! Probably waited about 20 mins just to order. After you order, you wait for one of the workers to call your name. When they do, you can go up to their station and watch them make your ice cream! It involves pouring the base with the other ingredients and mashing them together as they solidify and mix constantly on a cold surface. Lastly they lay it down one more time and then use their spatula to roll it. They then place it in a cup and ask you if you want any additional toppings. The energy of all the workers made the environment so much better! The actual ice cream itself is more dense than other ice creams that I've had, which is a good thing! The consistency is something I've heard my friends even comment on! The flavors are super rich and you definitely get your money's worth! Definitely would recommend and would come back! read more

I recently tried a friend's Bravocado and craved it ever since - it's creamy and perfect with (extra) condensed milk and mochi. It's pretty pricy at $8.25, but I always share it and I appreciate the manual labor they put into making ice cream. Service has been hit or miss - one visit the guy making my ice cream was super friendly and they handed out cold water bottles to everyone, another visit the cashier didn't say hello or thank you. I can't blame them though, because I remember being an annoyed high schooler working at Jamba Juice lol. It's different for me, because, you don't have to actually rush to have your ice cream. It's not going to melt as fast as regular ice cream. With unlimited toppings and cool rolled ice cream, this place was my childhood foodie dream!!! I've been here twice now, and both experiences have been STELLAR! The first time, I went on a weekday afternoon and there was a long line, but the workers were efficient, despite their recent opening. When it was my turn to watch as they rolled up my ice cream, I was super excited. The guy who rolled my ice cream (sorry never got your name) did it perfectly and I ended up having 5-6 beautiful rolls of matcha ice cream. Then came the fun part: toppings! I decided to put on a toasted marshmallow, some chocolate waffle bits, mochi, and a condensed milk drizzle. My combo was delicious and before I knew it, my cup was empty! Yum!! The second time, I got the Rock and Roll and went on a weekday night. Dude, if you think afternoons are busy, come at night; it's PACKED! Anyways, I waited in my 10 minute line, which went by slowly, despite the workers' efforts to make it go quickly. In their defense, there were at least 20 people in front of me. When it was finally my turn, I got to watch my hardworking ice cream roller dude chop up a bunch of almonds and a marshmallow, which must have been a lot of work. Nonetheless, my rolls came out beautifully and I was able to top them off with a toasted marshmallow, some chocolate waffle bits, a mint Oreo, and a caramel drizzle. Icicles has pretty good rolled ice cream! And I can tell a lot of other people agree with me, too, because I came here on a Friday night, and the line was literally out the door. I waited maybe 30 minutes in line before making it inside to order. -- HOW IT WORKS -- One cup of ice cream is $7.50 + tax. It seems pretty hefty, until you realize that "your choice of toppings" means you can choose ANY toppings from their list to add to your cup! For no extra charge! So you can literally get all the toppings, if your heart desires~ I'm just not sure how you're going to dig into that without all the toppings falling over haha. So first, with the cashier, you order your ice cream flavor only, then a different who makes your order calls out your name. You go to the window in front of them, and they'll confirm if your flavors are correct. Then you can watch as they make and roll your ice cream in front of you! The ice cream then gets handed off to a different worker, who you then let know which toppings you'd like, and they'll get them all for you. -- ICE CREAM -- I got the "Cereal Killer" flavor, which is Cap'n Crunch, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Fruity Pebbles. This isn't my first time having rolled ice cream, and the one at Icicles isn't as creamy as the ones I've had from other places, but it's still yummy and the ice cream flavor was really on point! I got strawberries, bananas, a roasted marshmallow, and whipped cream as my toppings, and it was all reeeally good. -- SERVICE -- Even though the wait was a bit long, once you get inside, it doesn't take too long to get your ice cream. The workers were all really nice, but since it does get really busy and noisy inside, make sure you speak up! I only wanted two of the three cereals in my ice cream, but the cereal flavors got mixed up, probably because the workers didn't hear me, even after the girl who made my ice cream asked if the two flavors were right and I tried to correct her. It's no big deal to me, though, I'll just make sure to be louder next time. And there isn't a whole lot of seating inside, because the shop is kinda small. A lot of people were eating their ice cream standing up inside the shop and outside in the hallway, but I was able to get a seat. They also have a deal where if it's your birthday and you have a valid ID/proof, you can come in for a free ice cream! If you want more afterwards, there is also fruity pebbles, crushed Oreos, roasted coconut, and another topping on the far end of the store near the bathrooms. After ordering, be prepared to wait some more before your ice cream is made. But make sure you eat it quickly because the ice cream tends to melt pretty fast. I don't see myself coming here that often because it is $7.50 per cup basically. It's too expensive in my opinion. I would just go back to thrifty for my ice cream fix. read more

If it's the mark of a good restaurant, I heard about this place before I went. Of course, I had no idea where it actually was...so I did a GPS search and wouldn't you know? It's about time they attract at least a couple of businesses that can diversify its customer base! Icicles specialises in what they call "Thai-style" ice cream. It's quite similar to Coldstone but with eastern twist. The staff spreads out the wet mixture on a cold plate and it freezes in a flash, to the point where use a scraper and make it into little thick rolls. After they serve the rolls in a cup, they ask for toppings: you can choose from any combination of drizzles, mochi, popping boba and jellies found in milk tea, etc. I've been here twice and had the Oreo and Matcha flavoured ice cream bases - the Matcha was exceedlingly rich and nutty and I liked it just a little more than the Oreo, although I get everyone has their preferences. Store ambiance is minimalist and feels a tad bit tacky. That's alright as new businesses have to cut corners somewhere. I deducted a star because of price. $7.50, while it lets you customise an ice cream with as many different toppings as you want, is a little too much and it keeps me from coming here more often. Something like$5.00, $6.00, even $6.75 would be a lot more fairly priced for what you can get.
