I came in after reserving a large block of time to get everything done, but left 2 hours and $250 later with orange and purple hair (the purple was intensional, the orange, not so much). The cut was, well, a hair cut... I guess. How is it a salon with such high rating could be satisfied with me walking out looking so bad?!?! I recently had my hair teased into a bouffant (I love the retro look), then just popped into Ideal while I was doing errands in Scotts Valley to have it de-tangled, washed, and blown out. Vienna did a wonderful job of gently removing the teasing without damaging my hair, washing my hair, then blowing it out perfectly straight and silky smooth. The whole process was relaxing but also quick as Vienna works efficiently. I loved it so much I plan to go in as much as possible...looks so much better than when I wash my hair at home! read more

Her well rounded experience allows her to provide multiple styles and color options and provides sound advice. I continue to go to Ideal Hair because of Althea. Where she goes I go. Finding a new salon AND changing the hair style completely... that can be a nightmare for a guy. My wife recommended Lori and what do I do? I trust my wife and I am very happy about the result. Without an appointment while waiting I watched another first-timer getting his hair cut and leaving with a big happy smile. The master designer Lori knows her stuff. She is calm and yet fast, constructively honest, creative and skillfully experienced. She also likes a good laugh and the time in her hands (max. 20 min) almost seems too short. But I'll be back in 4 weeks. The price of $ 37 includes shampoo, blow drying and style product (might vary) and I find it adequate. Went in for a haircut and was talked into a perm. Since I had bleached/highlighted hair already, I was concerned but they assured me that the perm would be fine and that I would not have tight curls. I should have known better, because 3 hours later my hair was destroyed and my hairdresser tried to salvage the damage by hacking off hair around the crown. So to add insult to injury, I now have destroyed hair in the shape of a mullet. I sincerely wish I was joking and now I don't know what to do with my hair. Monique did my hair. She did a great job, but my highlights have totally bleached out (I have stripes!!!) I am unable to get an appointment with her unless its Mon-Thurs too. Bummer! Its nice to be able to get my hair done for a Friday or Saturday event :( Also, I had a pedi done here in July . It was TERRIBLE! I took pics and had it redone someplace else. I was shocked when they told me that it would be 45 bucks :( I played phone tag with the management but never got a resolution. I should have known there might be an issue when i noticed that the nail polish bottles were covered in dust. I definitely got one of the worst haircuts I've ever received from Ideal. The front desk girl does not give you anytime of day. Ideal Hair has been in business in Scotts Valley for YEARS! That alone should tell you that they run a very professional, high quality shop or they wouldn't still be in business. All of the staff are friendly and professional. None of this ignoring you while they finish texting, or basically giving you the minimal amount of attention necessary. They DO pay attention to you! The first thing they do when you arrive for an appointment is greet you, ask if they can get you any tea, water, etc and let you know that they will inform your stylist you are waiting. Did I mention they are professional AND considerate? I have always been very happy with my haircut and/or color treatment. Lori is awesome! I have only seen Lori but I know that every time I go in the place has a steady flow of customers and everyone there seems to be in good spirits. No complaining or dissatisfied customers here! Not bad, but could be better! Interior: Looks like any other contemporary, clean salon. They have professional products on one side and wigs on mannequin heads on the other. Couches with magazines to read and hair selection books as well. Haircut: My haircut (not including shampoo & conditioner) took around 15 minutes total and about $50.00. I have very thick, long hair which I have to keep very neat and cut or else it frizzes and I end up looking like Cousin Itt from the Adam's family. My hair looked fairly good at the end so I wasn't too upset, but I wish she would have spent more time on it since I paid a decent amount of money for the cut. Service: My stylist was friendly and we had small talk as she cut my hair. She suggested products for me to use to keep it shiny and to keep the frizz down. She also flat ironed my hair as well after the cut and blow dry. Like I said very friendly! Overall: It wasn't a terrible experience but I have had better. I may or may not be back. She is the BEST waxer I have ever had and I have lived in 3 other states and have probably tried 15 different estiticians. No one compares. This salon isn't fancy or upscale, stylists are friendly -- not pretentious. Prices are reasonable for some services, like the facial cost is probably the best around, but for haircut and color $150 (which takes about 90 minutes) is on the high end for the San Lorenzo Valley. I saw Lori the first time (on a friend's recommendation) and I think she is especially talented with color. read more

After months and months of neglecting my hair I finally made the time to get it cut. My hair was down to almost my waist but I knew it was unhealthy and getting knots so I already prepared myself it was getting chopped. I had Lori and she cut over 6 inches of hair off. The result? Amazing fresh new hair. She also touched up my color and added an amazing panel of purple. Best part is I wasn't in for 4+ hours (usually I'm in for hours and hours and hours- this is why I neglected it so long). Lori was efficient and gave me an amazing new do (without the split ends!) also- the receptionist is amazing- I adored the entire staff. 5++ stars. read more

Dissapointed today when I went in and found out my appointment evidently did not get transferred to the new year's appointment book (my guess - they did not say this). I made the appointment 8 weeks in advance, in person with Lori after my last service in the salon. They also could not find my last appointment information in their records. This would have been my 4th time in their salon. I checked my records and between products and stylist charges in 2012, I have spent nearly $1000 in this salon. Nothing to sneeze at. I travel every week outside of the state, so my weekend time is my only family time. Disappointing to have valuable time wasted. Feeling put out, I did not reschedule or use another stylist...the choices posed by stylist Lori since she had to leave early and could not fit me in. I haven't decided if I will go back or not. It made me so angry to have my time wasted. I was looking forward to the appointment and needed the color and cut for a meeting next week I am speaking at. I was very happy with my cut and color 8 weeks ago...(along with 3 bottles of product and gratuity nearly $300; PRICEY but again, I was very satisfied). If I get over being angry, I'll probably go back. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time. I guess my advice to others would be to call in advance to confirm your appointment. I've been here a couple times and it's safe to say I won't be going back now. Salons usually have a 100% markup on product, this place is more like 150%. Go across the street to Westside beauty supply and get all of the same hair products for around $5 or $6 cheaper. Aside from that, last time I went I asked for a haircut with layers. My stylist told me it would look like "a mullet" to put any layers into my long hair, so I settled for her just cutting a couple inches off the bottom. This was the extent of her 'haircutting' each time I went in, she never touched my bangs whatsoever or did any of the shaping around the face that I asked her to. About half way through my haircut a walk in customer came into the salon. I had asked my hairdresser for a shampoo, haircut, and blowdry, but when the new customer came in she finished up my haircut and then proceeded to ask the receptionist (yes, the receptionist) to come and do my blowdry so she could take the walk in. I politely declined and said I could dry it myself at home. When I went to pay my bill I got a $30 mystery charge, which turned out to be a 'treatment' that my hairdresser had put in my hair while she was washing it. She hadn't told me what she was doing or that it would cost $30 to do it, she just did it without asking and then charged me for it later. I ended up spending $90 here for a trim and left with my hair wet. Suffice to say, she got no tip. Last week I went down to see my regular and preferred hairdresser in LA. I told her about my experience at Ideal hair and she scoffed in amazement when I told her that the lady would not layer my hair and said it would look like a mullet. She then gave me some wonderful, long layers that look great. I had forgotten what it was like to get a real haircut! She actually took quite a bit of time to meticulously give me a full cut, including my bangs, then a blowdry for free at the end. I know now not to sacrifice quality for convenience, I will never go back to Ideal hair and I make sure to tell everyone I know to find somewhere else to go as well. read more

The ambiance is very relaxing in Ideal and all the ladies that work there have fun colors on their hair too! They were all very welcoming and sweet. It is so fun listening to all of them talk to each other about what kind of haircuts they're doing and hearing them give advice whenever one of their co-workers is stumped( like we were about me on how to best lift the box dye I had put in my hair with out completely frying my head in bleach haha...oi vey.) My hair is my worst feature. It's actually been called "frog fuzz". Joe has been great for years, always being alert to a new product that will help. He's seen me through the attempt at "big hair" in the Permed '80s, attempts to grow it beyond my chin in the '90s, and now is helping me color the gray! For too long, I would stick with a hair stylist out of some misguided sense of loyalty even if I didn't love my cut, her personality, or the prices. Not anymore. With age, comes wisdom. So for the last few years, I've skipped around in search of a perfect fit - a top notch stylist who makes me feel comfortable, a clean salon with professional staff, and a great cut that doesn't cost a fortune. I believe I've found it - and of all places, it's in a strip mall in Scotts Valley. I've driven past this place for more times than I can count, and my impression was not good. Judging from the sign/logo that looks like something from the 1970's, and the styrofoam wigged heads in the window (!), I assumed it was for clientele who might, say, get their hair coiffed once a week like Grandma did. Thank you, Yelpers! Your reviews inspired me to try it out. I made an appointment with the owner, Lori. When I walked in, I was completely surprised, as it was not at all what I'd expected. I immediately felt at ease with her and the front desk staff. The place is clean and orderly, which appeals to me. My cut was perfect, and $35.
