Idletyme - We have been coming here since they first opened. It's our go-to spot for all seasons. We love the summer, sitting outside and enjoying a great meal. Our waiter Corey H was awesome. Both friendly and attentive. Everything was as good as expected. One thing I must say, we were truly disappointed with the interior rebranding. It's now cold and uninviting. Which is surprising, the décor before and seating were great. At this time I think this will now only be a summer spot where you can enjoy the outside. As a note - if they had more tilting umbrellas they would seat folks more. We saw a few tables where people came and didn't stay because the umbrella didn't provide shade. Stopped in after a day skiing for a quick drink. They were packed but managed to get us a table for just drinks which was great. They have an extensive drink and food menu, which I would love to come back and try as every table around us that had food looked fantastic. Our drinks were great and reasonably priced. The inside is very clean a rustic farmhouse vibe with great energy. Parking is located on site and can get icey at times. Stopped here after checking out some shops on Main Street. We had a reservation for 8pm, but since they closed at 9 we went in 15 min early and were able to be seated right away. They had a decent beer selection, and a lot of food options. I wasn't super hungry so I got a French Onion soup (delicious) and a Caesar salad with no protein added. My fiance got steak frites. The steak must have been good because he devoured it before I could have a bite. I did have some of the fries and they were really delicious. Soft, and seasoned beyond typical salt. Pretzel bread- oiled and salted soft bread cooked like a pretzel. Didn't really taste like a soft pretzel, not much bite, not much chew to it. Nothing like a Philly soft pretzel, and not as good as the pretzel up the street at Von Trapp. Only thing good was the mustard sauce. Mountain Road Grain Bowl- the salad flavors didn't go well together. Too sweet. Would benefit from onion or fennel to balance out the flavors. Carrots weren't roasted enough, they only tasted partially cooked and stale, dry and rubbery on the outside, cold and dry on the inside. Steak Frites- they cut up the steak into strips and grilled it. Then served it that way, smothered in sauce. There was no way to taste the steak for what it was, without all the sauces. There was no way to get a bite of steak, medium rare. They ended up cooking it all well done. This is not the French way to serve steak. Fish and chips: fish is fine. Cole slaw too sweet and too much vinegar. Service: nonexistent but with a smile. Eg Hostess- big smile when she tells us she can seat us. I asked her to give us water. None arrived. No waiter around. Finally we had to ask the woman bussing tables for water. Waiter who takes our order has a big smile and is friendly, but the food is brought without any of the necessary condiments - no vinegar for the fish and chips, no ketchup for the fries, no salt and pepper for any of the food. No, forethought or anticipation of our needs. No refills of water. No asking for honest feedback about how the food actually tasted. Just checking to see if everything is fine but not waiting around or showing me body language that he actually wants to hear feedback. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will be going back to Von Trapp for the rest of the week we're here. Ambiance outside is nice, inside not so much. Flies buzzing around, tables not set with forks but only knives, candle was out on our table. Felt like hostess didn't care. In-n-out fast food provides better service than this dine-in restaurant. read more

We have been regulars at Idletyme for years. The current management is really bad. The menu has many changes most of which are not positive. Many of their great wait staff have left for other work. Even their fantastic brewmaster has left for another gig. The new staff members have no idea what good service means. We came here with no expectations and were pleasantly surprised. The outdoor experience was great. We were seated right away with our little dog. Plenty of scenery and activity. Everything we got -- fried pickle appetizer, fish & chips, and black bean burger -- were very good. Service was great and the price was fair. The restaurant has a very pleasant ambiance, with plenty of natural light indoors and a charming outdoor dining area as well. Our waitress was absolutely first-class--warm, attentive, and all smiles, even though she was clearly juggling a busy shift. The portions were generous, the food was delicious, and the selection of beers on tap was excellent. Prices felt very reasonable--especially by Vermont standards. We had to get as many "Vermont" items as we could while we were in VT, so we got the maple lemonade and maple Manhattan to start. I had the idletyme burger which was HUGE. It had a cheddar fritter in it, but it didn't taste like much, just added some crunch factor. The burger itself was cooked a perfect medium and was juicy and delish (4/5). My bf got the shaved prime rib sandwich (3/5) with onion rings. Sando was ok, onion rings very good (4/5) Came here a second time for dinner with the coworkers and got: - Vermont cheddar fritters: So good! These are a must get! Melty goodness with a crunchy coat. 5/5 - Blackberry salad: Lightly dressed and delicious. 4/5 - Pub steak: the most expensive thing on the menu isn't always the best thing. The steak was stringy and tough, although it was cooked medium rare as requested. Some of the bites we actually had to spit out it was so tough. 1/5 The indoor area is super cute and we even sat on the couch with a cowhide baseboard (which proved to be super poky and itchy if you moved the wrong way). They have a really nice and big outdoor area complete with a fire pit and umbrellas. The takeaway: get the Vermont cheddar fritters and the onion rings! Don't touch the steak with a ten foot pole. A delightful restaurant with a good brewery attached! We came for dinner but arrived before our reservation, so we tried a flight of beer. I think the Heff was great, my wife loved the peach ale... Dinner was exceptional. I has the swordfish with cilantro and charred pineapple salsa... an excellent meal. My wife had the roasted half chicken, which was also excellent, with just a bit of maple. Her Yukon gold mashed potatoes were perfectly seasoned.... They were as good as it gets in my book. We split a wedge salad which was HUGE! And delicious... definitely a meal for two. We topped it off with a nice bottle of wine. Our waitress, Shannon, was a pleasure. Attentive, conversational, not overbearing... we left her a 50% plus's tip. The vibe at this restaurant is very cool, food is great and location is perfect. The best part about our experience though was our bartender/server Brandon was truly on top of his sh$&! We happened to stop in for lunch on what was essentially the busiest weekend of the year for them, peak foliage tourism, a fall festival and a crazy line of nonstop people. You wouldn't know it by watching this guy work! He owned the service at the bar. He worked smart, clean and organized! We had a great experience here! The food and service were both excellent. The outdoor seating area is especially nice -- lots of tables, with fire rings farther out that give it more of a bar vibe and plenty of open space for kids to move around. It's very dog-friendly and easy to manage with pets. We visited in the fall, so it did get a little chilly outside -- definitely bring a blanket if you plan to stay awhile. Our server was fantastic, although we did notice one couple nearby waited a bit before being helped. Once their server arrived, though, everything seemed smooth. Inside, the restaurant has an awesome bar area, plenty of tables, and a cozy fireplace -- perfect for colder evenings. We are first time tourists on our honeymoom and Rick came and started the fire for us. This man is an absolute gem. He gave us so many recommendations and might be the sweetest human we have ever met. We were already loving vermont but his friendliness made us feel right at home. My birthday dinner was perfect. We chose to sit inside as it was a little warm outside and pretty packed. We were one of two couples sitting inside and it was nice and quiet, just the way we like it. The hostess was friendly and accommodating and our waiter was nice and attentive. We had come to this restaurant as a recommendation from a friend, and we were not disappointed. Our drink orders came right away, while we continued to view the menu. We decided to try the VT Cheese Fritters and they were 100% the most amazing app we've ever had. They came to us hot, fresh out of the fryer. The cheese was a soft consistency and the middle was melted to perfection...I took many photos lol! INCREDIBLE- you MUST order this app if you're eating here! For the main dish, I ordered a Goddess salad with chicken breast. Fresh, cool, large and well prepared salad. The olives added a nice taste to the salad and the chicken breast was grilled perfectly. Hubby ordered a notch burger and loved it. The combination of flavors worked well together. He's very particular about his burgers, so this is a huge compliment to the chef. For dessert, we ordered the ice cream sundae and the chocolate cupcake and shared both of them. It was a nice finale to a delicious dinner. Appreciated the fact that the desserts weren't too big and overwhelming so we didn't overdo it for my birthday dinner. read more

Last year this was our first stop in Stowe, and I was really excited we were able to stop in again. The cocktails are delicious, I had a great watermelon drink. The 3 of us all ordered burgers and they were cooked perfectly medium and were super juicy. I adore sitting at the outdoor bar. It is built around a tree and creates perfect shade. Service was good, all the bartenders and servers seemed to work well together and we never had to wait for anything. Hopefully we can stop back again next year. read more

Horrible, and I mean horrible service. We were told to wait 45 minutes for a table of 4 outside. We waited exactly 41 minutes when we asked if we were still on pace to sit at 45 minutes. The lady told me we had 3 minutes left to wait. When I asked if we would be sat down within 3 minutes, she said it would be another 15 minutes for outside but asked we wanted to move inside immediately. We moved inside and waited 30 minutes for not ONE waitress or waiter to walk up and ask us for waters. We went back, spoke to the manager, and asked if someone would be waiting on us. During that time, another couple sat behind us, was immediately met with a server and water. We were told wait staff would be coming, so we waited another 6 minutes and no one came. He was attentive, fast, and always checked in if we needed anything! We ordered the pretzels and they came out within five minutes and it was really good. We came here because it was within walking distance from our lodgings, and as we are on a bus tour, we have no transportation. We loved this place! Sheena made a great first impression when I made the reservation and was so helpful when we arrived. It had a fun, friendly ambiance. There was a large group that seemed like a family group sitting next to us and everyone was having a good time. My sister and I had the fish and chips and the fish was delicious. The batter was hot and crispy and the fish was tender and moist. Our server, Heather, was friendly, helpful and efficient. After dinner, as senior citizens, my sister and I were concerned about crossing the busy road in the dark to get back and Sheena went outside and helped us safely cross the road! My husband and I have been going here for years while vacationing in Stowe. The food is always amazing. I had the burger and fries and they were awesome. Our waitress was great. She said she was a fairly new server but she was fantastic. You never would have found. I don't really care for the interior and I really wish they would open the pub back up year round. read more
