Pineapple Cakes - Gift Box of 10 Pcs - $39.50 (taken November 2024)
Carol W.

Stellar Taiwanese bakery specializing in Taiwanese Pineapple Cakes. I'm a long time supporter of this mom and pop shop. As reference, I bought 300pcs back in October 2022 as wedding favors and they were of course a huge hit!! I came back again to pick up Pasalubong (in Filipino culture, it's a gift or souvenir given to a friend or relative by a person who has returned from a trip or arrived for a visit) ahead of a trip to New Orleans and these are perfect! They are not ChiaTe (most famous brand in Taiwan and the brand I literally cart home boxes and boxes) but they are the absolute best stateside! They have two varieties, the one in the golden package shown or another in a pink package. The difference between the two is that the pink package has a more buttery taste while the golden package has a more tangy pineapple taste! Each are sold individually ($3-4 per price) or packaged in a box (as shown). They also have an assortment of baked breads and other Taiwanese specialities such as suncakes (taiyang bin) and wife cakes (lao po bing).

Pick 6 of your own Taiwanese mooncakes and they will neatly arrange it in a gift box for you!

This my go-to place for Taiwanese mooncakes and eats. Their mungbean style mooncakes are flakey on the outside with a savory/sweet inside. When you buy 6 pieces, they'll neatly arrange the mooncakes for you in a gift box and also a gift bag for easy gifting (or just eat it yourself at home, we won't judge!). Though the pastries are the stars of the show IMO, you can't go wrong with anything you eat there. Absolutely pop into IFT Bakery if you're in the area!

A Chinese style bakery specialized in traditional, authentic Taiwanese pastries (cakes). We got 3 of the most celebrated varieties namely, the pineapple cake, the sun cake and the Yen Yung cake (meat based). Each cake is individually wrapped. Ours came in a box of a dozen. You can mix and match the varieties. They all look good and appetizing. The best of the 3 is the pineapple cake which is flaky and the right amount of sweetness. The Yen Yung cake (with meat and salted egg yolk) is also flaky and tasty. The sun cake is also flaky but is a bit blend tasting and not as good as the other 2. A bit skimpy on the filling too! The cakes are a bit pricy but do not have the excessive sweetness of American pastries. Would try the pineapple cake again but not the sun cake!

Good small Asian bakery. Lots of Taiwanese style pastries to choose from, like pineapple cake and sun cake etc. They also carry some frozen food as well.

It's a great small asian bakery that's been here a while. Located in the San Gabriel market plaza, next to the water place. It's better to come here for your bread fix after shopping at the supermarket than buying it there. Just walk a little more for better quality breakfast/snack. It's a small place and they don't have that many selection, especially if you're looking for savory breads, but so far they're pretty good. Most small asian bakery don't have a lot of savory bread options anyway. They do open a little later than the other bakeries. Small bakery usually closes at 5 or 6pm but this place closes at 8pm, so you can still squeeze in after dinner!

Fresh bread could be seen as they were cutting and packaging it in front of my eyes. They have the THICK toast that is often used as dessert. My gf always gets their specialty item here, the flaky meat filled pork round pie. It is $6 each an its crazy but lots of people buy it as gifts. They have a assortment of frozen zhong (sticky rice tamales) and buns in the fridge. Really convenient.

Been coming here for a year, and this is my one-stop shop for bakery and goods. I really love the sun cakes, moon cakes, and pineapple breads. They even have a matcha egg custard bread, which is my go to. The matcha cream filling inside is really sweet and creamy!

I'm so in love with their mochis! Best Chinese style mochis in LA. I'm a big fan of fugetsu do's mochis, but these are even better!

I love their pineapple cakes! Great tasting items made from high quality ingredients. Check out I Fu Tang the next time you're in the SGV!

It's not a perfect pantry here where everything is good but most items are and their pineapple biscuits lives up to their reputation.

Every dessert in the case looks like a tiny masterpiece. You can really see the care and detail that went into creating them, which is so impressive. The cafe itself is bright, cute, and has a really nice ambiance. It feels like a perfect little spot for a date, to be honest. A huge practical plus is the parking situation, which is easy with plenty of street spots and a lot nearby. Now, I feel a little weird saying this because the presentation is a full 10/10, but the taste just didn't match up for me. I tried a couple of their most popular items, and while they were okay, they were kind of bland? The flavors weren't as bold or memorable as I was hoping, and some textures were a bit off. It was a bit of a letdown after how stunning everything looked. My experience was just okay, so I'm landing at 3 stars. The staff was nice, the place is charming, and I wouldn't say no to coming back with a friend to try a different pastry and a coffee. But if you're going purely for an incredible flavor experience, you might leave wanting a bit more. It's a feast for the eyes, for sure. I plan to come back to give this one more try.

The Chinese cupcake wrapped in paper was one of the best I've had. It was spongy, moist and just the right amount of sweetness. Pineapple bun is the Hong Kong style buns. The top is crispy while the rest of the bun is soft. Sesame bun was soft and filled with good amount of sesame inside. Egg tart was also good. Although the crust could be flakier, the egg custard part was very good. I haven't tried everything in the store but what I have tried recently, I liked it a lot. I will be back to try other items. They're really generous with the filling and don't skimp, which is what keeps me coming back :D My husband enjoys their cha siu bao, and they always seem to have it fresh out of the oven whenever we stop by. The cashiers here are also super sweet - the black sesame bread sells out fast, so I usually call in ahead of time to ask if they have any and they'll set aside a few for me until I arrive, which I really appreciate :) Little things like that go a long way. Highly recommend this spot for your Asian bakery goods!

Honestly, whenever I need a Chinese style birthday cake, I always end up coming to Sunny Bakery…read more For me, this is one of the go to spots in the SGV. Their cakes are the classic Chinese bakery style, light sponge cake layered with fruit and whipped cream. They make custom cakes in all different sizes and I think the pricing is pretty reasonable for what you get. Best of all, the cakes are fresh and not overly sweet, which is exactly how I like them. This time I ordered a quarter sheet chocolate cake with chocolate cream. It was really good, rich enough to taste like chocolate but not so sweet that it became overwhelming. Everyone at the party seemed to enjoy it. They also open at 8am which makes pickup convenient if you need a cake for an early event. One little bonus: if you pay cash, there's usually a small discount. Let's just say Uncle Sam might not be getting invited to that party. Overall, a reliable bakery that I've been coming back to for years.

When I picked it up today it looked just as I had expected but I was surprised the durian aroma was not very strong. When we cut the cake a couple hours later , it was still hard and frozen inside ! We were expecting a soft sponge cake with durian filling but what we got was a hard frozen cake . My 80 year old mom couldn't eat it because it was too hard for her teeth. What a terrible experience and it really spoiled our birthday celebration. We order cakes from Sunny bakery every year for our family's birthdays.
