Cafeteria style spot to eat right inside IKEA. I love that their menu is seasonal and it being summer time they have salads and salmon dishes available! I had to stick with the OG meatball entree. A nice serving is Swedish meatballs with gravy, leashed potatoes, lingonberry jam, and peas. The peas are ok, the gravy and jam help for sure. I also got a slice of Swedish apple pie and it was exquisite! They also have a beverage fountain with sparkling pear juice which is a nice difference from the traditional fountains. I love that they have the options to increasing the amount of meatballs for a small price increase. The plate is tasty mix of savory and sweet due to the lingonberry jam being served alongside with the gravy, mashed potatoes, and peas. The prices are also very affordable for Service: The chefs are very quick with my plate that I took to go and made sure to mark each order with how many meatballs in the box. So very kudos to them for being quick and labeling my plate. COVID-19: Social distancing is enforced at this establishment. All of the staff wears a mask. All customers are expected to wear a mask too. Some of the staff also wears gloves. Oh damn, how did I forget this place, the only restaurant where I'll eat meatballs? I visited around 2:45p during the week and still encountered a line which moved rather quickly. I did notice the cashier asked if I was having water or soda and I wonder how many try to pull one to save $1.25... Found a table near the stairs and ate happy for about 25 minutes. If you're paying attention, it's very easy to bus your own tray; you don't even need to put everything in a separate area (can toss napkins, trash, etc. though), just put the tray on one of the shelves and you're done. Easiest damn thing you'll probably do all day. Service was fine with the cashiers as well, there were about four open at this time. I think they were getting ready for dinner since some of the items were low on stock or not available at all (garlic toast). Customers, I also have to say were super polite at least during my visit. Example: guy in front of me with his family had to pass back and forth more than once, saying 'excuse me' and 'thank you', etc. each time. Do I need to point out he was clearly foreign? First time visiting the huge Ikea restaurant in Burbank. This big blue building can be seen from the freeway and it's tempting to go inside just to check it out. Parking was plentiful. Upon entering from the lower levels there's an escalator that takes you right up to the Restaurant and cafe. We arrived at around 11AM. The lines looked really long, but they moved pretty fast. There is actually 2 food serving lines which a staff member will direct you to. The smells of delicious food and of course the Ikea meatballs await. Ikea members with their card can receive free hot coffee or tea. Just remember to grab a mug before checkout. During this visit we tried a few dishes, 2 Ikea meatball plates( meatballs, mashed potato, veggies, and a dollop of lingonberry sauce), a slice of berry cheesecake, and a bowl of chicken dumpling soup. Everything that we ordered tasted amazing and so satisfying. First time trying the berry cheesecake. It was very light, creamy, and tasted like eating a berry sherbet ice cream. The soup tasted so comforting as if it was homemade. All this delicious foods was less than $20 bucks. It was richly chocolate flavored, moist but not dense and heavy like flourless chocolate cakes and the frosting was like a mix of ganache and buttercream, not too overwhelming but with the loveliest consistency. The sparkling pear juice was also a stunner: crispy light and fruity. All other foods were subpar to the cake. But we did like the Mac and cheese. Some of my favorites things here are their famous Swedish meat balls (comes with gravy, mashed potatoes & lingonberry sauce), salmon filet (comes with a veggie medallion and a lemon sauce), short rib (comes with mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies). They have different sides options as well from fries, mac n' cheese, wild rice etc. You can choose which sides to accompany your dishes anyway. They have bread (garlic toast, dinner rolls, corn bread), soups (tomato, broccoli cheddar, chicken) salads (caesar, kale) and dessert (chocolate cake, strawberry shortcake, pies etc). You have to get the garlic toast with any meal, it's really good. I recently came for the salmon plate seriously thinking about the meatballs; but I wasn't eating meat for Lent. The lady serving us overheard me telling my dad I wish I could have the meat balls and told me they had plant based and veggie balls now. So, we ordered both. They were really good but my favorite were the plant based balls (it came with mashed potatoes, gravy, lingonberry sauce and green beans). Just like the real thing, really! I've been here for breakfast as well, and those Swedish pancakes were absolutely great. Aside the cafe they have a counter with pizza, hot dogs and frozen yogurt on the first floor by the exit. Breakfast Review When we pay less than $14.00 to feed a family of three for breakfast including my husband extras' ( dessert , meatballs) and we all leave full. I am always willing to drive the 15 mins to Burbank to be there by 9:30am, which most of the time you will find a line already waiting for the doors to open to the Restaurant not even Ikea. This was my first time eating at the restaurant part of IKEA. I'll usually shop the store floor by myself and mostly to pick up some quick accessories or snacks/foodstuffs, so it's probably because there's always a line every time I've passed by that I avoid this part (I've plenty of times stopped by the smaller snack kiosk since that line is more of a breeze to get through). This time was no exception--we started at the very end of the line corral, and throughout our whole visit (even during our meal), the line never dwindled to being less than the length of the line corral (it's odd because the cafeteria style dining makes this seem like type of place you'd want to go to occasionally for a work lunch break if you work near the area but the line might make it not so much; the length of the line at full capacity is probably in the vicinity of 30-50 persons). Overall, I enjoyed the experience here. The prices are beyond reasonable; between the three of us we ordered four sides of meatballs (16 total; they're $1 per side of 4), two small (kid sized) chicken tenders plate, one small (kid sized) meatball plate, two side salads and two sides of smoked salmon for just a little over $25 (was actually about $21 with a 15% off coupon). I wasn't expecting to be blown away by the food (I've had their meatballs and I like them, but they're not much different than the Swedish meatballs you can pick up from the regular grocery store; I just like to get them here whenever I can since I live further away). The chicken tenders were pretty good (they're chicken tenders: I mean, I don't think any place has "OMGWow" plain chicken tenders) and the side salmon/salad was the same level of good as well. The small (kid sized) plates were enough for each of us and came with just about enough fries and green beans (green beans tasted canned: it's mostly cafeteria food so I wasn't expecting to be blown away by this; the fries were pretty good as well, surprising not cold; the dining area has a microwave just in case food sits behind the window for too long but it wasn't necessary for us). Would I come back here? If I came with a smaller group and we were set ahead of time on having to eat here, I'd commit to it even if the line is long. It probably took us 15-20 minutes just to make it to the end of the line. The staff was ok. From personal experience, I can understand why they could start losing patience with certain customers, especially if they take too long to decide on their orders (that was a little bit of us), and even more so when the line starts to build up behind us. They should at least ask if you're finished with your order before moving on to the next customer so it doesn't possibly become an awkward altercation of an "I'm not done with my order!!" between the staff and the patrons or even between patrons (didn't happen this time). The eating area is huge. It was oddly never completely full; even though the length of the line was always at capacity, the tables never seemed to completely fill up (this was noon on Sunday), and the dining area was always clean and immaculate (the staff is constantly attentive to the preserving the presentation of the dining area). In a time when we are inundated with choices, we are never satiated; always wanting the next best choice, having regretful thoughts of what could have been missed and moving on from something good for something better; not realizing that something better will always evade us until our deaths. So when something good appears, we are perplexed, thinking if we should take it or look for something better. On a rainy evening while shopping at IKEA, I was given an opportunity to try the IKEA Cafe where I stumbled upon the veggie swedish meatballs plate which came with brown rice, quinoa and farrow with a Thai coconut curry sauce all for $3.99. Would I curtail my hunger for a "better" choice of food? Would I resist the spendthrift whisperer telling me to drop out of high end dining and pack my bags at this cafe for a little while? The answer to both of these questions is obviously no. The food, service, and prices are not worth passing up. The flavors don't require one to have "evolved" tastebuds, but can anyone complain about them for that pricetag? If you do, re-read the first paragraph I wrote up there in this review. Sit down. The restaurant is cafeteria style, you get a tray and a fun little metal cart that holds multiple trays and you take your selections as you go through. You can dine like a Swedish King or Queen for $8.17, tax included. The Swedish Meatball plate, $4.99, comes with 8 meatballs, gravy, mashed potatoes, lingonberries and green beans. Dessert will cost you $1.49 and a fountain drink, $1.00. There are other items to choose from: salads, salmon, chicken and there's even a cool cappuccino machine. Every once in a while they have these crazy seafood feasts for Swedish holidays and there are advance reservations usually required for those events. But on a day to day basis, this is an adorable lunch or dinner for the whole family, because, you know- shopping makes you hungry! It's a bit noisy and you have to scout your own table but there are plenty and the space is light and airy with lots of natural light from huge windows. The restrooms are conveniently located around the corner. Get an extra scoop of the lingonberry sauce to go with your meatballs and get a lingonberry juice drink at the soda fountain. This is my new, favorite go-to spot for more than reasonable prices. Free parking, you walk into the new IKEA, up the escalators and there you are, adjacent to the cafeteria. Now, take note of the day of the week since the lines on weekends are what Disneyland dreams aren't made of: they're LONG and if you're hungry, you'll be hangry by the tine you get your food. The wait is much, much too long. Go on a weeknight, Fridays are even ok with decent lines. You grab your tray, maybe a cart to cart your trays and decide on a chilled drink: water, juice boxes, pear cider? Done. Hit the dessert panel next. Chocolate cake? Done. Pink marzipan cake? Done. Nordic mousse? Fantastic. Grab your sweet which is probably under $2 a slice and move on to chilled, healthy wraps, sandwiches and burgers under $5. Greek yogurt is $1.69 which is a skip for that price! Moving to the end, you make a slight right to the hot foods. You have your choice of Salmon Fillet, Chicken tenders, Swedish meatballs, Chicken Cordon Bleu, for all under $7. Sides include veggies and mashed potatoes. My favorite is definitely the Salmon Fillet, it's so delicious and love that dill sauce! The Swedish meatballs are surprisingly delish, I can't wait to go grab more! Walking through reviving your order, you gave the options of sides: Mac n cheese, bread, and small salad bowls to round out the meal. Some people come here to buy furniture and there are those like me who come here to eat! I came here on the weekend and this place looked like a theme park! The parking here was organized and I felt like I had driven into Disneyland. I went straight to the food court and there it was in all its glory! I don't know any other restaurant in Burbank that offers meals without excessive fats, spices, grease, salt and sugars. You don't have to order meals exactly as they are on the menu, they are flexible. I love coming to IKEA because not only checking out home essentials but also for their restaurant! Such affordable meals and variety for the family. The Swedish meatballs are delicious with the mashed potatoes and veggie in the side and that's usually what people come here for. I don't blame them. They also offer salads, desserts, chicken tenders and more. Downstairs near cashier area you can also find pizza, soft serve ice cream, etc. I had their smoked salmon on the side as well and it was worth. For dessert, I tried their strawberry shortcake and it was divine Would definitely come here if ever I'm craving IKEA food. read more
