After a little shopping at IKEA, we got a little snack to eat. Haven't eaten at the cafe for years, but I'm amazed how consistent and affordable the dishes still are. I got the 8 piece meatball meal that comes with protein, a side of greens, and a scoop of mash potatoes. We also got a side of a summer salad. The food is simple and tastes good for what it is. The way the cafe is set up is very organized and clean. Just grab a cart and get in line and then you just grab the food you want to purchase before heading to the cashier.

Pasta with marinara sauce plus Swedish sausage, garlic bread and rainbow cake.

The best value is the pasta with marinara sauce and Swedish sausage for only $1.99. Not so much great taste for the garlic bread (very hard for $0.99) and rainbow cake (super hard and dry for $4.99). The staff could be more friendly but it's very crazy with so many people so I can somewhat sympathize. The ambiance is more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. You do get a wide view of the 405 freeway. Not bad for a quick lunch but I will stick with the pasta next time because of the value.

    $40 for all this!

Time for an update! We go to IKEA at least once a year, but I don't think we've ever gone more than twice a year. However, we always have lunch here when we do. The Swedish meatballs are the reason way. The seasoning, the gravy, the texture, the flavor, all great things about the Swedish Meatballs. Everything else on the menu is like an upscale employee cafe. I miss the red potatoes and they are now mashed. Peas are peas. I had the mac and cheese this time instead of peas, and it was OK. The garlic toast reminded me a Sizzler. Their fountain drinks are their house brand, but the diet cola wasn't bad. They do sell cans of a few Pepsi products if you're not adventurous. I had the Meatball special this time and my dining partner had the salmon for the first time. My meal was as expected. The salmon wasn't bad, just wasn't "oh wow" great. He also had a salad which was good. Besides almost everything being self-serve, the other odd thing was the size of the napkins. I know it's weird thing to complain about, but they are so small, you need one for each leg if you want to fully cover your lap. The kicker this time was the price. $40 for 2 people! Granted, salmon isn't cheap, and we did get a strawberry filled cake for desert that we split, but dang, it's getting pricey. Still, I'm going to always stop by and get my meatballs. And you can buy them frozen to take home, but for some reason, they never taste the same at home.

Located inside IKEA on the second floor, the restaurant is cafeteria style. You grab a tray and walk up and order and they serve a plate for you. Their meatballs are definitely my favorite. Their lingonberry sauce and gravy pair so well! I noticed they have a ton of different deals where the food prices are crazy low. Their penne pasta was only $2 when I went. They have sides and desserts and well. There's plenty of tables and after eating, you put your tray on a rack.

A good spot for a classic meal whether you're already in IKEA shopping or if you want to just stop by. The parking lot is massive and a lot of the parking spots are covered. The food is cafeteria style where you can pick some items off the shelves/refrigerated sections and some of the entrees get scooped for you. You pay prior to sitting down at a table. There's plenty of seating available and the very large windows let in lots of natural light. We ordered a 16 meatball entree with the regular sides, an additional side of mac&cheese, and a slice of the double chocolate cake. The meatballs were delicious and that size is great for sharing. The lingonberry adds a nice tart and bright taste to the dish. The meatballs are savory and the whole dish goes well together. The mac&cheese was very overcooked and didn't really taste like anything. The chocolate cake was very moist but also very sweet. The entree was the best part of the meal and would definitely return for it. You have to walk through about half the store to exit but the walk after the meal was nice. There's a small freezer section towards the exit where you can buy the meatballs to take and cook at home. They also have a smaller food section on the way out.

    Pasta with 4 Swedish meatballs

TL;DR - Swedish meat balls = bomb town. Their pasta + 4 meatballs is only TWO DOLLARS, DANG!! I haven't been back here since college and was so happy to see the entire dining area was more or less the same. It was still very clean and modern. As with many customers who go here to shop, we had to make a stop by their cafeteria for their famous Swedish meatballs. I got in line while my partner disappeared somewhere. It turns out she was studying the menu and decided to get something too, but in a separate line. I got the Swedish meatballs (8 of them) which came with the classic peas, mashed potatoes, gravy, and jam. It was like a walk in the past! Still delicious, savory, and lightly salted. I could eat two of these plates! My partner sat down with a plate of pasta and 4 meat balls. I was wondering why she got this instead of duplicating my order. We spoke about our excitement for the Swedish meatballs beforehand after all! It turns out her plate was only $2. TWO DOLLARS! LOL WTH. That's it?! For all that?! My order was easily 3x that value. I couldn't stop laughing hysterically. I'll be getting a SIDE of pasta and 4 meatballs next time after this. Definitely coming back here every time I visit Ikea!

Haven't been back here for ages, since summer started and got teenager for 2 weeks before summer camp/school starts. Took him here for breakfast/lunch and some exercise and trying to stay in budget. The foods here is quite good and tasty with really good decent portion and the prices, can't beat that. Located inside on the second floor I think and over looking the parking lot and the freeway with big huge spacious seating area and of course with their own items for decors. The food court is cafeteria like, take a tray and goes around the food counter and take what put would like and take it to the cashier counter and pay for it. We went around 10:45-11am so they are still in the breakfast-light lunch menu but still plenty of choices to choose from. Staff are nice and very friendly. We order one kid meal, an adult meal, a salad and a dessert plus a box of chocolate for a total of $24.21 (including tax). Not bad at all. And the foods are tasty, hot and yummy too. We finished with nothing left. Yum!

Ikeas restaurant used to be better but they still have decently priced food and this time they had falafel balls with couscous. Tasted great and comes with a great garlic aioli. We had some princess cake for dessert and some coffee. I always go to the restaurant when I go to IKEA and get something. Normal service and in terms of ambiance always the same. Clean space and busy furniture shoppers. Will always come back.

It's Ikea, so I wouldn't expect very much but we think it's a decent place to eat between our shopping for supplies. If you go up the escalator, immediately turn left to get to the restaurant. It's cafeteria style here. You don't get table service. Grab a tray and order from the hot foods or grab your own salads. Drinks can be purchased in drink containers or you can buy fountain drinks. Pricing is ok. What we order: 1) meatballs of course! - if you don't speak up fast enough they'll just fill it up with peas and mashed potatoes. Make sure you tell them right away if you prefer different sides. Honestly, I thought I hated peas...but it truly pairs well with the meatball, gravy and sauce. So I'm buddies with peas now. 2) sides - peas 3) sides - mashed potato was ok for me 4) salmon - my kids love this one, and it's actually pretty good 5) sides or a meal - mac n cheese. Next time I want to try the salad with the smoked salmon. It looks delicious. Overall a good buy and maybe a place to eat for a quick bite. We couldn't get enough of the meatballs and ended up buying bags of them on our way out.

I mean, did you go to IKEA if you didn't get a few meatballs??!? :P This location has a large seating area, and is kept pretty and clean. The service overall was good, although the person checking us out seemed to be having a rough time, maybe he was new and just flustered, but whatever, the main thing is that the cooks seemed on top of things and the food was as it should be.

    1. The breakfast was good and well worth the price! I really enjoyed the crepes! 2. The spot is located on the 2nd floor of this IKEA! The cafeteria area is also spacious! 3. There are a lot of indoor seatings! There are no outdoor seatings! 4. The staff was friendly and timely with my order! It took less than 5 mins! 5. Parking lot is huge! However, it can get crowded depending on time and day! Note: There are restrooms available next to the restaurant area! Also, there is no table service so please put away your tray in the assigned area! Photo: Medium Breakfast

Always a solid meal at the IKEA restaurant in Costa Mesa. I was trying to set out to try something new which I have. But I'm a sucker for coming back to the Swedish meatballs. Today they had a special which might be some or most of the time double check. If you are an IKEA family member it was $6.99. I always get a side salad and the dressing so it does add up. Not sure why you would need to charge separate for dressing. Overall, the restaurants mostly clean they do a good job with the dishes that are stacked up, but sometimes the tables aren't wiped very clean. And the beverage station is usually very wet overall. Just a nice decent lunch. I think they also had $1.99 penne pasta special. My only issue is that I wish everything was served hotter especially the meatballs. I'm not standing in line very long. I'm going from the pick up counter to the cashier.

The meatballs were super juicy and moist. Loved the flavorful gravy and the option to get 16 meatballs. They do also offer plant based meatballs. For the sides you can get 2. Either mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies, french fries, garlic toast, or mac and cheese plus it comes with lingan berries. If you have an Ikea membership you can get a free coffee or hot tea. They also offer an inexpensive $1.99 pasta with meatballs or even a small side salad as seen in our picture as hubby ordered both. You do get a great portion for the pasta with the meatballs for the price and a not bad size for the salad considering it does have cucumbers and tomatoes in it and it's just not lettuce. The service here is pretty fast and they do have a good selection at decent prices. If nothing interests you, then you can go downstairs and check out snack bar area. The cafe is clean and has plenty of seating. We will definitely return.

I had the smoked salmon bagel, featuring delicate slices of salmon layered over cream cheese spread, topped with capers and fresh chives. This is my go to for coffee houses that offer it. The bagel exceeded my expectations and I believe the chive's subtle flavor complemented the smoked salmon really well. For drinks we tried the chai and hot chocolate. The iced chai latte was smooth and not too sweet with a dusting of cinnamon on top, but I would rate it average in taste. The hot chocolate was deliciously velvety and detailed beautifully. I would rate it a five out of five! The difference at this coffee shop is that you can choose from a range of seating arrangements and have an opportunity to support the business by picking up clothing, a bag of coffee or other merchandise. The con for this coffee shop is that the beverages are somewhat undersized relative to the price point. In addition, the customer service experience fell short. We were greeted upon entering, but it was unclear where customers should retrieve their order or whether orders numbers were called out. With that said, those looking for a quiet morning coffee or a cozy place to catch up with friends, this spot can accommodate.

I shared with the barista that it was my first time here, and he asked what type of drink I was looking for. I told him something iced and caffeinated - and he mentioned his favorite was the Honey Cinnamon Latte - which I opted for - iced, with oat milk. Total was $8.50 including tip. My iced Honey Cinnamon Latte was yummy, creamy, and fantastic! With the oat milk substitute, it sorta tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch in liquid coffee form.
