I love that there's a sign saying costs are kept low because we bus our own tables. ~ $1.50 each soft drink - Pepsi no less...shudder. ~ $7.99 ribs and fries - The Hubs said the ribs were ok but they looked like they were mass produced in the oven. The fries were surprisingly nice and crisp. ~ $5(?) smoked salmon - A tad dry and over smoked; understanding this is smoked salmon. The tightness of the fish could also be because it was cold too. Not the worst but if you're going to get it, be sure to split it. It is actually quite a bit. ~ $6 thai chicken wraps - We got ripped pieces of lettuce that we could not use to make a wrap. The chicken was diced up so small it was the size of tic tacs and it was in some weird jelly sauce. At first, I wasn't even sure was chicken. Yikes! Definitely a dish to avoid!! ~ $1 for 5 meatballs - the best and only thing that people should get. On another note, in the ground level dining area by the check out, it is only $1 for a plain hot dog and 50 cents for the organic milk. Side note: both my 2 year old and my hubs thought the milk tasted weird and they refused to drink it. Get your cinnamon roll to go and have it at home! In regards to the merchandise in the store, I typically try to avoid furniture and large items. They charge as much as any other retail store but there's always parts missing or you end up having to drill your own holes since their parts do not line up. Sometimes I think it's better to save a bit of money for food...other times I feel paying a bit extra is worth it. The day I ventured here for breakfast I was feelin' cheap & I had to be in Costa Mesa so I thought - why not? Outside the Ikea store you've probably seen the giant red banner that says breakfast is only 99 cents. It is very true but you also have some other options. The small breakfast that is 99 cents includes scrambled eggs, bacon and potatoes. There is a bigger breakfast that comes with all of that plus French toast sticks for $1.99. If you are ever more daring, there is the super breakfast which comes with eggs, bacon, potatoes, swedish pancakes and coffee for $2.99. You can also upgrade your bacon for sausage at an additional charge. I got the one with French toast sticks since I am not a fan of pancakes. Eggs were the worst thing on the plate...just bad cafeteria quality I'd say. The potatoes were good but had no flavor...you'll have to put some salt + pepper on them to make it decent. Bacon is extremely thin and tastes like the microwave-ready stuff. The French toast sticks were pretty good...crunchy and a slight sweetness before the syrup - I'd say similar to a fast food place. So the food is not that great, but you get what you pay for. Don't expect gourmet if you're paying a dollar for your meal. It's perfectly edible and certainly appetizing if you're really hungry but obviously not my first choice in dining. I would eat here again if shopping here. I'd actually like to try the Swedish meatballs. Oh, and if you feel like snack food in Ikea, their express food area is pretty good. The special for the weekend was get the amount you spend in furniture, free, in food. We bought over $250 in furniture and got $100 worth of food free from IKEA. I thought to myself, the food is so cheap, how were we ever going to get the bill up to $100? Surprisingly, it wasn't that hard and added up fast. I recommend all the salmon lox and smoked salmon plates. Everything else is okay, cafeteria quality and needed salt. I kinda like the Ikea Restaurant also. It's cheap and it's not bad at all. Where can you get breakfast for 99 cents?? I mean seriously, the eggs aren't great, but they have bacon and the potatoes aren't half bad. If you get 2 orders, that's less than 2 bucks and it's enough to get you through the morning while you browse around the store. Lunch and dinner they have pretty good selections. I like the lox plate or even the sandwiches are good. The meatballs are not bad either and it's cheap. They have a TV on for the kids and a little kiddie section where the kids can sit at. Parents can sit around that area to monitor the kids. All in all, we love this place although, we've never made a special trip JUST to eat there, but whenever we do go to Ikea, there's never a doubt in our minds where we're eating. read more

IKEA is pretty much Disneyland for poor people who dream big, and their restaurant is a reflection of that mantra. That's not to say that I dislike either. Nothing better complements the purchase of stylish DIY furniture like lining up school lunch-style for some meatballs and lox. Like their bed frames or bookcases, their meals are outrageously inexpensive. They taste pretty good too. The rotisserie chicken is nice, albeit a bit dry. And their chocolate cake is better than what you'd find in most grocery store bakeries. If you go on the right days, you can score an entire meal for less than $4. The guy behind the counter and lady at the checkout register was super nice. After sitting down the cafeteria-esque dining area, I started to dig into my generous portion of pasta that I was not even able to finish with lots over cheese over juicy meatballs. The IKEA restaurant is a solid place to take a break, hang out, enjoy the complimentary wi-fi, and have free coffee or hot tea with your free orange IKEA Family membership card. They also sell food that is sometimes adequate and barely edible. Most of the food is just too disgusting and I have to dump it out after valiantly tasting a micron. The worst offenders are the perennially over-boiled vegetables, those gross "vegetable balls," the way too fishy smelling salmon, and the mystery Swedish meatballs (but a lot of people are enthusiastic fans of them nevertheless). I usually treat myself to mashed potatoes with brown sauce because that is one thing I can reliably eat. I just add copious amounts of ground pepper and suck it on down until I feel full enough to stop, because I'm too lazy to go somewhere else to eat. I actually do like the chocolate cake and the blueberry cheesecake, as long as I can obtain a slice that is not too stale. The French fries are pretty good. And they also recently added real roasted chicken breasts and legs, which are always dry, but reliably edible. Pay extra for the jumbo if they have it but they are sometimes out. The dollar pizza is big but not the best. It's probably healthy cheese or something and good for you but if you are a pizza person you should stick to the dogs. They also have cini-buns, pretzels and that sort of stuff. All for around a buck. The mini supermarket freezer with yummy gourmet frozen Swedish dishes is adjacent. The prices are good considering it's Swedish but they are not Trader Joe prices. If you have the time or patience (when it's busy--at nights you have it to yourself) UPSTAIRS is where it's at. Drove back to IKEA, CS department was helpful in that the lady went and checked for me to see if they had extra parts that could help me. Was told to check extra parts area at this IKEA. Found one shelf with a decent scratch on it in extra parts section. Went to cashier was told by lady in CS to ask for a manager so the manager could wave the price. Cashier continued searching for the shelf I bought to get down to brass tax and figure out a solution. Manager's name...Cindi. She was Caucasian with wavy long grey hair. She said I'm sorry but there is nothing we can do without a receipt. That was it. I waited 20-30 minutes in CS. Then waited and searched for another 20-30 minutes. Then the manager slams the door in my face. Cindi needs a proper course in CS training. The shelf that was damaged was $2. Cindi looked at me and was like "What it's $2?!" In a manner where it was like "what you can't afford $2?" Completely disrespectful. She did this in front of her cashier. Demoralizing a customer. Look, it is not my problem that the person or robot packing the shelf did not pack it right. And for her to be so rude is unacceptable. Please talk with Cindi. If she talks to CUSTOMERS in this manner, you might want to ask your STAFF at this location by South Coast Plaza how they feel about her. P.S. it takes me about 20 minutes to get to this location. We stopped in early morning before a long drive back home and decided to try the breakfast here. The employees were very friendly and helpful. We got the Scandinavian American Breakfast (swedish pancakes, eggs, sausage, fried potatoes), swedish meatballs and a blueberry mousse dessert. The swedish pancakes were flavorless and gummy, the lingonberry jam did add a sweet/tart flavor. The sausage was not very salty, lean and pretty good. The potatoes and eggs were standard and nothing exceptional. The swedish meatballs have a tender beefy flavor. The blueberry mousse was very sweet and I thought the bottom layer was cake or some sort of crust, however it turned out to be a jelly which made it very sweet. We decided to visit this Ikea store since we were in the area (Discovery Science Center) to look for something and since the time was late, decided to eat in the Ikea cafeteria as well. Being Ikea cafeteria newbies, we didn't realize what those small strange looking wheeled metal carts were for that only a couple of people ahead of us and behind us in line were maneuvering in the long waiting line. Well we soon found out once these people go to the point at the start of the serving line what the carts were used for: for carrying/transporting several trays instead of trying to balance them with your hands. It would have been nice to see some signage near the entrance of the cafeteria showing you the purpose of these carts and/or the ability to still grab a cart in the area where you get your serving tray. I tried the gravlax ($4.99), which had 2 pieces presented on a bed of wild greens and some sweetened mustard. It was pretty tasty but very mild in flavor compared to some other Gravlax's I have eaten elsewhere. I'm not a big wild greens eater as it reminds me of eating weeds from a lawn, but they were tasty with the mustard dressing on them. The wife and I ordered the meatball combo for $5.99. This entree consisted of 15 meatballs, a side of mashed potatoes slathered with brown gravy and splash of lingonberry sauce. With this combo, you also get a choice of soup or salad and a soda. The meatballs were really tasty with the lingon berry sauce and the mashed potatoes were pretty good also mixed with or without the gravy. I heard someone ahead of me ask for some type of meatball special where you get more than 15 meatballs. I just read another Yelper mention in their review about it also. Something for me to check out next time. The soup was a tomato based broth with chunks of vegetables in it. I was expecting it to taste like Campbell's Vegetable soup, but it did not. It was pretty good actually. Tried the lingonberry soda which like all of their sodas ($1.49 with unlimited refills), are from a self serve soda dispenser. The flavor reminded me faintly of Shasta's strawberry soda. We all liked it and it was something new to try. We also purchased a mac and cheese ($2.99), which was not well received by our youngest son who loves mac and cheese, and the portion size was fair for the price. I ate the remaining portion: the sauce was grainy and it tasted like institutional mac and cheese. We ordered the chicken tenders/strips and fries (5.99), which does not come with any drink. To me and the wife, the chicken looked kinda dried out. But she tried a piece and it was actually quite moist and tasty. Fries were pretty good as well. Tried their Apple cake ($2.49). It was the last piece offered in the chill case in line, so I grabbed it. We were kinda disappointed with it. It was still thawing out when we tried it. The crust is like a dry cookie texture which was ok, and the filling of apples were pretty decent, despite still being somewhat in a frozen state. We did not get the vanilla sauce the menu describes comes with the pie slice however. They also have tea and coffee (.75 with unlimited refills) These are always free if you are a "Ikea Family" cardholder. They have rotating daily specials as well and seem to be really cheap. Overall, the food was pretty good and was fair for the pricing: total bill was $33.18. Earlier, we ate lunch at Subway sandwich. Three foot longs with two meal combos (chips and sodas also) plus 2 more sodas ran us $29. Keep your tray cart nearby to assist as you are requested to self bus your tables when you are through. You can use the cart(s) to move your trays to the staging areas that have large carts used to store the trays with the used dinningware. We would eat here again if we are in this area. read more

Good Food + Cheap Prices = Happy Person. It's not a gourmet restaurant, but it hits the spot. Complete meals at less than $10 a person is a great deal! Good for kids too, few options for them to enjoy. I'm actually craving the Salmon and Veggies right now. If you don't want to dine and are on the go, grab a hot dog or two. Quality used to be so much better before but I still think their awesome meatballs! I doubt I'll ever stop coming every once in awhile to get some of them. Thank you for the attempts at vegan. Buttercup and I came in to get her a new dresser and decided that we needed some lunch before we walked the maze. We dent through the cafeteria line and told the people we were vegan so please help us out on the items. we both get the vegetable balls, I get it with the tai coconut sauce, the carrots and cauliflower and the quinoa and rice, Buttercup opts pasta and tomato sauce as an option. We get fountain drinks and both meals are under $10. We get out drinks, I get a mix of the Lingonberry and the Raspberry soda water option. Delicious!!! Buttercup just opts to water down her Lingonberry. We sit down and enjoy our meal, was it amazing and life changing no, was it agreeable, affordable, and nourishing, yes. Mcdonalds chicken nuggets like...4 for $1. 10 pink goo nuggets and 2 sauces = $3ish. 20 suspicious pink goo nuggets and 3 sauces (how the first 10 nuggets get 2 sauces but the 2nd 10 nuggets only get 1 i have no idea) = $5. IKEA 20 meatballs and all the gravy you want? = $4 freaking dollars. AND you get to tour the entire store which is like a giant playground/photobooth where you walk out with things you never thought you were going to buy but its so cost-friendly that you can't resist.
