To start they have the worst bakery is dense so heavy that I wonder if it is fully bake . All of the sweet bread has the same basic taste is bad . Service is good cashiers are fast friendly efficient and as well the people that bag the groceries. The store is clean and well organized. My favorite department is the produce. This spot is more 4.5 stars to me, but I have to dock it by a bit just because it's not completely perfect and certainly have to consider some caveats with visiting. The parking lot can be atrocious, as it's a relatively busy lot and the spaces are not very accommodating. The selection is wonderful, but it also seemed apparent that many items were recycled/used within the market and the small eateries. For example, the beans and rice from some of the eateries almost looked exactly the same as the beans and rice stored in containers for the market, which made me think that if the restaurants didn't sell their sides they could just store it into the containers for grocery customers to purchase in the fridge section. However, the medley of fruit drinks, birria, grilled/fried fish, churros, and a great pastry/bread selection really make this place appealing for families that want to have a variety of items to choose from. They really have something for everyone and the dining hall can get crowded real quick too but is a nice spot to quickly dine and possibly even hear some live music on the weekends. I used to come here on weeks when I did a juice cleanse because they have a good selection of fresh produce with good pricing. I could get ingredients for 5 days of juice cleansing for about $40 versus the usual $80-$100 somewhere else. However, my last visit will be my last visit frankly thanks to the lady who was working the salsa/guac bar that day. I try to get my ingredients fresh when I can so when I saw that there was a salsa/drink bar where you can order some items instead of getting the pre-packaged one, I chose that instead. I waited in line and watched the lady serve the customer before me. The customer was male and she was extremely friendly to him while making his fresh guacamole. However, when it was my turn and I asked for the same thing, she said no and tried to make me buy the pre-made one. The heck? I refused. A line started to form and the worker started acting like she didn't know what I wanted so I had someone in line translate in Spanish for me. After the guac issue, I also asked for a cup of guava juice because I didn't want to get the pre-made one with the ice melted. I pointed to her which cup I wanted and she straight up lied and said they don't have that cup. Honestly 5 minutes earlier I saw her get a new drink with the same cup for another customer and that is what I told the person who translated for me. What was even worse was that the lady working, while reluctantly getting my drink in the cup she said they didn't have, started talking about me in Spanish out loud and I received dirty looks from the other customers who have no real idea what was actually happening. I asked the customer who was translating for me if the worker was talking shit about me and even she got embarrassed and stopped translating. This really was embarrassing and I feel that it was extremely wrong for the worker to put me in that type of situation. When I got in line to pay for my other items, I asked one of the workers where the manager was. I was honestly thinking about making a complaint but I was an hour late already for another task, so I did not. I told a Mexican co-worker about this incident and she told me she believes the lady took advantage of the fact that I didn't speak Spanish. Regardless whether I speak Spanish or not, trying to embarrass a customer by talking crap about them to other customers is just a big NO in my book. I wasn't asking her to do anything hard or that her position does not entail. I really don't think I deserved such poor service. read more

I would give Northgate 10 stars if I could. This market definitely has its pros and cons, but it's only crowded and has long lines cause it's THAT GOOD! This market has been a family favorite for years, and has indirectly catered many of our family events, birthdays, parties, etc. First off. The market is not anything fancy. Many of the reviews state the lines are long, parking is crowded, and the market is busy. But that's because the food is so good! The store itself has everything you need in terms of produce, foods, and meats. However, the real gem of this market is the hot to go section. Few things to note, the earlier you get here the better. What do you expect when the food is awesome, they do run out. So if you are expecting to buy enough food to feed a large group, show up early. Also on weekends, expect a wait. Most people come and get food to go, and order A LOT. And that takes time. However if you plan ahead, you can skip the wait. Some favorites of mine are the taco platter, which comes with everything you need to assemble tacos with your choice of meat. The homemade chips and tortillas are incredible, and we always get a to go bowl of the guac and salsa. We also love the carnitas, the chicken and the carne asada. However carne asada is usually the first to sell out. My all time favorite order here, is the Pescado ceviche. Do not sleep on their wide selection of ceviches! I have been going to Northgate Market for years not only the one in Garden Grove but a few others that are close to my home. Today I went in to purchase 10 gift cards of $100 each. At the 9th gift card, she said she was only allowed to sell me 9 gift cards! I looked at her like what? and again, she said only 9. Well, I have 10 employees that I was buying gift cards for but was only able to purchase 9. So, I turned looked at my brother, gave him the $100 dollar bill and said here you go buy the last gift card. Standing right there he gave her the money and she sold him the 10th gift card. She said something about the register being unable to sell me 10 gift cards. I understand there may be a limit per transaction but why couldn't she just have done the last transaction for me? Makes NO sense to me. So needless to say I don't think I will be going to Northgate in Garden Grove again. Last year I also had a problem purchasing gift cards, but my boss wanted to give them another chance. All in all, not a good experience, in buying gift cards.
