You may totally disagree but the sandwiches look better than they taste. The sound amazing but just weren't as good as I thought. Don't get me wrong, they're good but I thought it was going to be so much better. We go the Matt Cain and the Barry bonds. For me, sandwiches should be either hot and crunchy or cold and fresh, then toasted. I like my veggies fresh and chilled. My meats chilled as well (if it is a cold sandwhich). When I bit into it, the flavor is there but the temperatures totally threw it off. Everything was room temperature. Lettuce, tomatoes, sauces, meats... All room temp. That made it uncomfortable and almost gross. A hot sandwich needs to be hot. Cold cuts/meats need to be fresh. Veggies chilled and fresh. It just simply wasn't like that. A place with delicious sandwiches. This is part of the Ike's "franchise" which can be found in San Francisco. The location is right off of the 101 exit for San Mateo 3rd street, and can be confusing to find since it is an one way exit. The location is clean and has a good amount of seating. They are open late which is a plus, since most other sandwiches close pretty early. I tried the "One nite stand" and it was really good. Remember to get the sandwich on dutch crunch, because it is the best. They have a large menu and plenty of vegetarian options(all sandwiches can be made vegetarian upon request). This location also has a breakfast menu, which seems to be unique to this location. The downside is that it seems like the sandwiches here are a bit smaller than the location in near Delores park, SF. But that does not take away from the amazing food they serve. They also charge 25 cents for a bag(i got a small bag which only fit the sandwich), which is typical of the bay area, so I would suggest you opt out if possible. read more

Having lived in the Bay Area for about 10 years, finally able to try Ike's now that they have expanded beyond the one city location. My husband loves the "Matt Cain" sandwich on Dutch Crunch. While he is definitely NOT a sandwich person, he's gone back to Ike's a few times within the span of a month. We've tried a few different sandwiches now and all are pretty good. With the sandwiches having a lot of sauce, it can get a little messy so get extra napkins if you're eating it on the go. While the menu at Ike's may not necessarily look a lot different than other sandwich shops like Mr. Pickles or other, the quality of the ingredients is where it excels. Everything from the bread, sauce, and definitely meat quality is high. Granted you are also paying more for your sandwich than a Subway or Quiznos. read more

I usually go to the location on 16th street, but since I was eating lunch in the area and Paypal had a $3 off your purchase offer, I decided to stop by to grab a sandwich for lunch tomorrow at work. I wanted to order the Harbocalypse but this location didn't have the sweet chili sauce that goes with it. I was a bit disappointed. I ended up ordering the menage a trois on dutch crunch. The menage a trois is my go to sandwich at Ike's. I loved it when I first had it and I will always love it. The Yelp check in offer has changed. No more free drink and chips, but it's get your 2nd sandwich 50% off after 4 pm. At least they still give you an apple caramel pop! The workers were very nice and friendly. He definitely felt bad he couldn't make me the Harbocalypse sandwich. Prices are just under $10 for a sandwich, a dollar or two more than when I last remember. This location is definitely not as busy as the others. There was no line which is nice. I'm glad Ike's is opening more locations, which means more options for stores and shorter lines! It's located in downtown San Mateo and parking is all metered parking but this location does also have a small private lot. read more

I like Ike's Sandwiches a lot! But it's not always convenient to get to based on their store hours and where I'm located. I was happy to see that they just opened a new location in Downtown San Mateo. It's much bigger than the location in Redwood City. There's also a small parking lot and surrounding street parking that make it more accessible. It's right before the heard of Downtown San Mateo so parking is not as much of an issue. Not much seating inside, maybe about 6 counter seats against a window. There are a few tables outside that you can eat at. As far as the food, if you've been, you probably already have your favorites. I like the Matt Cain and also the Menage a Trois sandwiches. read more

I had the Hot Mama Huda (#6). It's franks red hot sauce on halal chicken. It was pretty good by lacking in some sauce to make it more fatty and mouth watering. It was really tasty and I liked how the sandwich wasn't soggy and everything in it paired really well with each other. Also The Dutch Crunch gave the sandwich a nice crunch with a hint of sweetness. I absolutely love Ike's Sandwiches but I'm not a fan of THIS location. Here are the reasons why this location isn't as great as some of the other locations in the Bay Area: 1) Parking lot is tiny and it's difficult to maneuver around the lot. 2) Not very many places to sit down to eat inside the joint. Overall, very small. 3) Service isn't as great as other locations. 4) It costs 25 cents if you want a bag. I realize that this might be a city-wide mandate but seemed kind of ridiculous to charge 25 cents for a bag at a restaurant. If you don't know what the Kryptonite is, it's cause it's not on the menu, but it's a challenge worth the heartburn and day-after gut. KRYPTONITE ($26.62)- Yes, it's expensive, but it's basically split into two whole sandwiches, so it's definitely something worth sharing b/t two people (or even four). They add a meats galore of bacon, ham, pastrami, roast beef, salami, and turkey. Then they add a deep fried madness of beer battered onion rings, stuffed jalapeno poppers, and mozzarella sticks. Smother it with avocado, pesto, and extra pepper jack... And finally, to complete all this craziness, you must choose the holy grail of breads: dutch crunch. If the kryptonite sounds overwhelming, all the other sandwiches are just as good too. I've tried the Matt Cain (godfather sauce is bomb), Menage A Trois (a sweet savory goodness), and Spiffy Tiffy (avocado+pesto+chicken=*hearteyes*). Check in on yelp if you haven't and get a FREE soda and chips! Plus it's always nice to finish your meal with the complimentary apple caramel pops they offer too. What once used to solely exist in it's hometown SF is now a chain widely populating the bay area, so whichever location you're at, Ike's is definitely a go-to for sandwiches. read more

I was so excited to find out about Ike's new location in San Mateo. AND the fact that they were doing a groupon deal! How awesome is that!?? Let's face it, my boyfriend and I would probably go and pay them a visit without the deal. We both love their sandwiches ever since the first time we have had them in their Stanford location. Last year, I took him to their SF Mission as part of his birthday plan. But the drive and the parking in SF are just discouraging. Now that there's one in San Mateo, we are just overjoyed and I have a bigger incentive to try all their items on the menu ;] It is located few blocks away from the 101 exit and not exactly close to the downtown area. Parking was a bit tight but we managed to park across the street. When we got there, it was about 11am and the place wasn't crowded at all. We were immediately greeted by the staffs. The place was clean and inviting. Did I mention that the staffs there were super attentive and helpful? As usual, it took me forever to decide what to get. When I finally got over my indecisiveness, I ordered their Bella, my boyfriend made his Turkey (unoriginal) sandwich instead of ordering what they had on the menu. By the time we took our order home, my boyfriend devoured his sandwich in about 15 min when I was still working into my first half. But they are just so GOOD! Now their sandwiches are not like old Little Lucca monstrously huge but they are a super filling size too. I could never finish the entire sandwich in one meal. Naturally, the second half of my sandwich became my dinner and my day is satisfyingly completed. =v= Anyway, we would definitely be going back for more and recommend Ike's to all sandwich fans if they haven't tried their sandwiches already. read more

This Ike's location is great. With a more spacious indoor venue than most other Ike's locations, it doesn't get as crowded. It's also very clean inside and the service is great. I love that they accommodate vegans here, since my sister is vegan. This is one of the few places we can go and both enjoy the food. My favorite sandwich here is the Lincecum. I wasn't too impressed with this place, I guess I expected more based on the reviews I've read. Sandwiches we're a little pricey and you have to pay for any additional sauces like BBQ. The meat portion isn't proportional to the bread (dutch crunch was really good though) and the lettuce over powered everything. How lucky did I get today?? I was on my way to the airport and was going to make a pit stop at another sandwich place in San Mateo for my in flight meal. I spotted Ike's while I was in traffic, heading to the other spot. I haven't been to Ike's since I lived in the Bay Area 5 years ago. I used to go to the one in The Mission, and their sammy's were bomb! I popped in, and while it took me a while to order (so many options!!) the person who took my order was VERY patient. I decided on the Matt Cain (roast beef, beef salami, turkey, and some other tasty stuff) and it was delicious! I'm mid-air now, and I just ate my sandwich. My tummy is thanking me and the guy next to me is totally jelly ;-) I'm so glad about this location. They will see me again during one of my frequent visits to the Bay Area :-) read more
