Way back before the huge restaurant with the overscale lamps and beautiful decor, there existed a humble little mom and pop shop in a strip mall that served the best Lebanese food with the best prices. Business was good-- no, great-- and they were able to afford a bigger and better space. To help pay for their new swanky palace of delectable treats, they had to increase their prices-- a lot. 'Loyal customers will pay for this food that they've fallen in love with, no matter the hefty price increase,' the owners told themselves. And it was true, for a while. I went back time and time again, lamenting that the chicken shwarma I loved had gone from $6 to $12 but always with a full and happy belly. It was Ikes and it was delicious and I want to support my local community, so price increase be damned! However, being a middle eastern restaurant in metro-Detroit is not exactly a new idea. The area has a lot of other dining options and I'd wager some at better prices with the same quality of food. The food is great-- For a Lebanese restaurant, they honestly have the best Chicken Fettucini Alfredo that I've ever had-- Garlicy and creamy and amazing. The Baba Ghanouj is also the best I've ever had. They serve this fluffy bread, I have no idea what it's called, that I sometimes dream about. The food is amazing. But I feel it in my wallet everytime I go. So, I'm happy that the owners have gone from a little place to a huge place. Honestly. They're food is as delicious as it ever was, that's for sure. It is by far the best cusine of its kind that I have ever had. That being said, you will need to have a fat wallet when dining here. But, dress up and make a night of it. The food is great. There is no denying the fact that I have only gotten better Lebanese food when it was homemade by Lebanese friends. That being said I dearly miss the old location. It was pushed back in a plaza barely to be seen. It had a real diamond in the rough kind of feel. The food hasn't really changed but the atmosphere is tight and anything but laid back. I have been a loyal Ike's follower since they were a little place in the strip mall with tack-tastic pink and turquoise decor. I'll admit that the first time I was at the new place, it felt very posh and not like the Ike's I knew. Don't let the image sway you - the service is great and you can still catch the owners and their kids walking the restaurant and taking care of their guests. The food never disappoints and anyone I've ever taken there is always impressed with the ambiance, service and food. The Fattoush and Arrayes are two of my faves and you can't beat the warm pita bread they serve with dinner. Try it out!! Highly recommended! read more

Hands down THE best Lebanese food I have ever had in a restaurant. The portion sizes are large so bring an appetite or be ready to have leftovers for lunch the next day. This was my first time at the new location and I absolutely love it. The diners were very casually dressed but the ambience suggested the shorts and flip-flops, while being many patrons standard uniform, were too relaxed. Oh and the fresh made bread?? Heavenly. My biggest complaint is that it is about an hour and 45 minutes from Toledo. I wish Mr. Ike El-Alam would open a second heavenly location closer to T-town. read more

My family used to go to Ike's all the time when it was the old hole-in-the-wall. Now, they've gone for style over substance. When they built the new restaurant and catering business, the quality of the food suffered horribly, to the point we don't go back there at all. Yes, the new restaurant is much classier. You can't argue with that. But when I go out to eat, I go for the food. Period. Ike's was where I first tasted and got hooked on tabouli, moussaka, and mujadra. They used to be amazing. Now, the tabouli is limp, oily, and vaguely gray instead of green, as if they mixed up a huge batch a few days ago. Entrees often come out cold, probably for the same reason. For a while there, we would get nostalgic for our favorites and try Ike's again, but after bad experience after bad experience with the food and waitstaff, we refuse to go back. The one thing that did get better with the new restaurant was the fresh-baked pita bread, but I have a hard time justifying the slide in the rest of the food for that. If you want a "classy joint" and don't care about the food, then you can have my old seat at Ike's. read more

Ike's consistently delivers quality food and great service. Don't be intimidated by the fine dining appearance. Prices are very reasonable and the daily specials are fantastic. They now have tablets for menus. You can tap the item you're interested in a see a photo of it. I normally go for lunch so I don't order anything too heavy. On my most recent visit I ordered the Super Falafal Pita and a side salad with house dressing. Two other in our group got the Chicken Shawarma and the other got a corned beef club. Lebanese food is the specialty but the other dishes are also great. read more

Every time I return to the Detroit area, I must get my fill of Middle Eastern Cuisine. The delicious Lebanese dishes keep me coming back to Ike's. I Ike's has come a long way from their small strip mall location just down the road. The building, decor, and overall ambiance are outstanding. The service was friendly and attentive. As for the food...the freshly baked Lebanese bread is addicting. Don't take a bite if you cannot control your bread consumption (who am I kidding...I never can). The hummus appetizer was delicious. Very nice looking restaurant full of glamorous looking people. You don't *have to* dress up when you come here, but you'll fit in better if you do. Go for the glitz! Often there are wedding receptions here, or corporate events. I gave the place a four because the food is very good. If it were astounding, I'd give Ike's a five. Maybe I'll upgrade over time, as I try more items on the looooong menu, and find the ones they do really well. I love their toum, the "garlic spread" from the appetizer section. It rocks! You'll smell like garlic for a couple of days. The Lebanese side salad is a step up from the usual, plain house salad. The fatoush salad is also very good. For a nice sampling, get one of the combo platters. I've also had the cabbage rolls which do *not* come with tomato sauce. Instead, there's a delicate yogurt sauce. I dipped the tines of my fork into the yogurt before each bite. The cabbage rolls are filled with ground lamb and rice -- just like stuffed grape leaves, but done with cabbage leaves instead. Nice! Save room for dessert. We had tiramisu, one of the best versions we've had yet. Great for large groups. The noise level made conversation a challenge but never made conversation impossible. read more

This was my first Middle-Eastern experience, and I agree 100% with other reviewers that say it's like a Middle Eastern Coney Island. Service was polite, food came out quickly. I think their predominant spice was cumin, which I thought odd for Middle Eastern cuisine, and haven't seen repeated at other Middle Eastern restuarants I've been at since (eg. Ollie's, Kabob House, Oasis, etc). But the food was good, and the price on the average-to-high side. I'd give it a shot if you're interested in trying it out. I ate here on Mother's Day 2010. There wasn't enough seating in the waiting room for our party of ~15 to sit so we all stood--including our mid-seventies-aged grandparents. That was a fifteen minute wait for our reservation to be redeemed. Most of us ordered the buffet as our meal. The food was typical catered food layed out on a 20 ft. long row of tables & a decently large square grouping of tables with desserts. The food was dried out from sitting out. It wasn't healthy. The smaller containers for each food item made you feel greedy for taking a lot, though you were paying for it. I thought the service was incredibly friendly & entertainingly goofy. The servers didn't do a good job refilling drinks or doing anything on their own. You had to ask. The food was dry, but we did sneek some meat out in a napkin for breakfast tomorrow, so obviously it wasn't that bad. I come here often after church and am always amazed that someplace can fuse Italian, Greek & Lebanese food in such a good way. Usually I'm a stickler about Italian, but Ike's can do it right. I'm always a fan of their kafta kabobs, which are amazing. I could eat them all day long. Recently, my husband had the roast beef sandwich, which was just like my (Italian) grandmother made! I opted for the baked falafel pita sandwich, and although I only ate half, it held me over and it actually reheated well for lunch the next day. We often get an appetizer, and the saganaki (flaming cheese) is pretty good. The salads are huge and made of fresh lettuce, which makes them OK to save for the next day too! read more

This is the new location which is just a short walking distance to the former establishment in the strip plaza. First of all, wow. The brand new stand alone building is very inviting. The interior has nice clean lined look and a calming zen bistro-like feel. It's almost a bit confusing because the ambiance of the place doesn't really match with the menu.. if that makes any sense at all. The menu here is a bit mish mashed. There's Lebanese and Italian cusines as well as mandarin chicken salads, southern chicken salad, cajun chicken dinner, extensive vegetarian dishes, and a whole variety of smoothies. Which by no means is a bad thing, there's something for everyone. Upscale family dining! The food is terrific. The salads are huge. So, let's talk about amazing middle eastern cuisine. From the delicious and garlic infused Labneh to the most amazing Kafta Kabobs that you've ever tasted, this amazing dining experience will not leave you wanting. From it's humble beginnings as a small diner to the lavish location it's become, the one constant has been the food. Ike's continues to be the best of the best when it comes to fine middle eastern dining in north east Macomb county. Ike's is a classy joint. It's waiters and waitresses are always quite professional and eager to please their customers. Especially during the day, you might even run into Ike who's always happy to strike up conversations with the regulars or new comers. The experience of the restaurant makes you feel like you're having family dinner at an upscale restaurant. Though the prices at Ike's are not outrageous, they're not cheap either. But, you get what you pay for and never leave without a meal or two in leftovers. My typical experience starts with a small plate of Labneh with garlic. And, in case you were wondering, there is nothing small about the small. At lunches, I will regularly order the small fatoush salad with chicken shawarma. Like everything else, this small salad is more than one meal! Don't order the large unless you're sharing it with four - six of your closest friends, as I've made that mistake before. Getting back to the Labneh, this delicious mixture of strained cheese and garlic is refreshingly delicious. A wonderful meal or as a pallet cleanser, it's one of my favorite parts of any meal there. That is, my favorite part until I get to the meal. Whether it's the tangy grape leaves, or the backed kibbie that is wonderfully seasoned with allspice and a rich with lamb and bulgar, the flavors are wonderful. Though the shawarma and kabob are wonderful, my favorite is the kafta. This delicious mixture of lamb, beef and spices is hands down the most delicious thing I've every tried. And, dipped in a bit of labneh, it's a little piece of heaven on earth. Though I understand their non-middle eastern food, from pastas to burgers is good as well, you're a fool if you don't go directly to the Lebanese cuisine as it is the reason the place has been so vital for so long. I'm going to be honest...I can't talk about desserts. I love desserts, and I'm guessing their baklava and puddings are delicious, but I'd be happy to go in for another piece of their fresh our of the oven bread and delicious hummus or another bowl of the lemon lentil soup or maybe some delicious baked pita and babaganoosh...but, I won't. I won't because I cannot. I have never had close to enough space to eat dessert when coming to Ike's! I beg you...no, I implore you to take your family, your date, yourself to this treasure...order, sit back and enjoy the coming onslaught of flavor and fulfilling bliss...as there is little like it anywhere! read more

I've been to ices a few times now with a fried who lives nearby. We usually split a vegetarian appetizer plater (it comes with grape leaves, stuffed cabbage, fatoush, falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, and tabbouli) and usually one other item off the appetizer menu that we've never had. I've been going to Ike's for years -- way back when, they used to be a small little diner in the strip mall north of 17 mile. However, they seem to place style and decor over quality and substance, so I've been going to Ike's less and less over the last 5 years. Today was the nail in the coffin. I will NEVER give them another dime. Here's why: Went to a bridal shower today and the food and service was ABYSMAL. The servers clearly didn't want to be there, because they were hardly present and one girl in particular had a serious attitude. Requests for clean silverware (yeah, our utensils still had food on them) were ignored, as were most requests, actually. The girl with the attitude would drop our salad plates in front of us, which was quite rude. More and more requests went ignored as the event continued -- had one attendee have to ask 3 times for a refill on her drink, I never got the little side of ranch dressing I asked for, bar orders took about half an hour to get to the table, and I was told by other guests that when I asked Little Miss Attitude for a refill on the water pitcher, she was glaring at me behind my back. Our finished plates were not cleared away with any urgency, either. We also had coffee cups, but at no point in time was coffee delivered. The food was pathetic. Everyone at the table agreed that the mashed potatoes were instant. The sautéed vegetables were barely cooked, and the Lemon Chicken was disgusting -- the sauce was way too thick and curdling, yuck! Having been a restaurant server myself, I know showers tend to be difficult, but defies logic that such clearly inexperienced, lazy, and poorly trained servers would be assigned to an event like this. For that, I blame poor management. I'll be throwing a bridal shower myself soon, but I know of one venue I can confidently cross off my list. This was an embarrassment. If you need a quick Lebanese fix that's nearby, head to to La Saj instead. read more

My family usually prefers to make our own Lebanese, but when we are going out for a special event, Ike's is our good-old-standby. Overall, every dish I've had there has been good. Yes, some other restaurants make certain dishes better but Ike's seems to succeed on some level with all their dishes. They have a HUGE menu so everyone should find something they like, and their combos provide enough food for one person to get 2-3 meals at a very reasonable price. Excellent lamb and cabbage rolls. I've been coming to this restaurant for at least 12 years, not by choice, but because my previous coworkers always choose it for a lunch gathering and if I'm not buying I'll go along. The food is very greasy and gets me me bloated every time I eat here, and others others have said the same. I had a four year stretch where I have not come here and recently I got lunch here twice only because it's right next to my office and I did not have time to go pick up lunch elsewhere. The service was ridiculously slow even for carry out. I got wrapped up at work and forgot I had ordered lunch and showed up 25 minutes late and they still did not have my salad ready and they did not have ingredients to make my juice either. They never bothered to call and advise me my order couldn't be filled 100% and the primary reason I even decided to get lunch was because I wanted a fresh carrot and beet juice. I would've skipped lunch had I know that. I still waited an additional 10 minutes just to get a small Greek salad which ended up being over $15.00 and this was not a small salad it was a large in comparison to others. The previous lunch that I ordered was over $20 for a soup and salad. Although pricing does not reflect how I review this restarting the food is low quality and double what it should cost. Although I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried to see if they changed over the years, I would not be back and not recommend this place. read more

Excellent food - the best Lebanese food we have had!! We had a large party for a birthday and they did an excellent job serving and the table was perfect in the room. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a large party or even a small group. It was a little pricey I thought but they gave you an overabundance of food I actually shared a meal and we still had leftovers. Dirty silverware and glasses, mediocre Lebanese food, they give you a giant basket of bread ( delicious) and charge an extra $3.99 for garlic dip? - any other Mediterranean place that is included. Can't help but be a fan of Ike's, especially since they've been a staple in the community for so many years. Extensive menu outside Lebanese (including pasta, bbq, seafood, etc) and all items are pretty solid. I've been going the carryout route more often than not. The food travels pretty well. Pros: they use good ingredients, the middle eastern offerings seem more refined than other primarily carryout/fast food middle eastern spots. If you're sensitive to seasonings or are unsure about trying a new cuisine, Ike's may be a good place to start as I've found that there dishes are mild with regard to herbs/spices. Cons: it's a finer dining experience than an average strip mall middle eastern restaurant and prices are reflective of that. If you're in the mood for a quick $4 shawarma sandwich hot off a grill you'll want to seek out one of the 'fast food' type middle eastern places. read more

The young man who served us wrote everything down and brought the dishes exactly as requested. He checked back intermittently, but was not intrusive. Our water glasses were kept full. The reason for our low rating is the food. It's just not good. One person had a chicken kabob, which was very dry and tough. The broiled chicken entree was cut into thin filets that were so very oily that they were clearly fried, not broiled. They were fry and tough enough to present difficulty cutting and the slices were edged with grizzle. The Baba Ganoush had an odd flavor. Of the four of us, no one had a great meal. The only items that equaled the flavor and quality of similar restaurants were the hummus and pita. So, this restaurant has the capacity to be a really nice place, but they need to drastically improve the food. Unfortunately, we would not return or recommend. read more

I've visited Ike's periodically through the years, twice in the last two weeks. My last visit occurred two days ago. I say my last visit because I don't plan on going back. I'll ignore the number of children who were running around laughing and yelling - this is a common occurrence as it's a family business. What I'd like to address is the poor service and meal that evening. My waiter was actually a nice guy, but my main problem with him is that he ignored our table - and even though he stopped at one point to ask about our food, he didn't even look to see me trying to get his attention while I was trying to chew a tough piece of lamb. He walked past several times without a glance at us. Later, when I was able to explain how tough the meat was (lamb kebabs), he of course asked how he could make it better. Since my friends were nearly done with their meals, I declined. I was presented with a bill for 50% of my meal by the manager because I had soup - which I had actually given to one of my friends - and a salad. I hadn't eaten but two bites of meat and I nibbled at the rice while waiting for our server. But, I paid the bill and left an appropriate tip. Not cool, Ike's. read more

I've been to Ike's for baby / wedding showers but never for a "just pop in" visit. Yesterday around 3:30pm a group of us (5) went to Ike's for an early dinner. I eat a vegan diet, which they had a good amount of options for vegetarian / vegan. My husband had flaming cheese and veal parm. (which he was very happy with), my sister in-law got the gyro and stuffed grape leaves, brother in-law got (fish and chips) and friend got the chicken stir fry. All the portions are very generous and they were very accommodating when I asked if I could sub. the baba g. for meatless grape leaves (NO Problem). Server was very friendly and funny. My husband said, the parm. sauce was very flavorful and he would like to come back one day soon.
