We had been regulars here years ago and usually was pretty good Italian. Decided to give it a try again, even though when we arrived it looked nearly deserted for lunch. An Outstanding Dinner Experience at IL Granaio for Our Corporate Event: As the event coordinator for a large company, I was responsible for organizing our annual conference dinner. There are not too many places that can accommodate 60 people in Skagit Valley, so when I visited the Old Town Grainery Building, I liked the ambiance of the open floor plan and hardwood flooring and knew it would meet our requirements. We ended up selecting IL Granaio for our company dinner, and it met our expectations! Several months before our conference, I started coordinating with Bill, the owner of IL Granaio. Initially, there were some challenges, as a buffet style was proposed for our 60-person reservation. However, Bill was very flexible and accommodating; he agreed to a limited menu with single plating options and even scheduled additional waiters and chefs to make sure everything ran smoothly. On the evening of the dinner, everything from the service to the delivery of our food exceeded our expectations. In our past experiences with other restaurants, we unfortunately had several issues with delays in food preparation, but Bill and his team handled everything flawlessly and achieved our agreed upon timing. The dishes were also delicious and well presented. Overall, I highly recommend IL Granaio for large group events. Bill's attentiveness and hospitality during our preparation phase resulted in a successful dinner and a wonderful experience. We picked El Granaio from an internet search, so our expectations weren't particularly high. But wow! This restaurant is a must try! It's in an out-of-the-way corner of Mount Vernon, in an old building that had been expertly decorated and rearranged to be a comfortable, cozy place to eat. If our waiter, Tony, is any indication, the service here is excellent. And based on our experiences eating in Rome, Florence, and Naples, the food is also excellent. We went for the sunset dinner! It's a great option and we went early enough to beat the dinner rush. Halfway through our meal it got busy. The server was in tuned to us at first but once it got busy that changed. They have several dining room options for you to choose from when you make reservations but we chose main dining room. It appears that most people were seated in main dining. They give you toasted breadsticks to start. Sunset meal 1- Ceasar salad, bruschetta, pollo Marsala, and Oreo cheesecake for dessert. Salad was fresh and lettuce was nice and green. The bruschetta was missing some balsamic glaze or more herbs. The chicken marsala was delicious. I loved the sauce, chicken, and mushrooms. We were attending a show at the nearby Lincoln Theater and were running a bit behind. We let him know our circumstances and asked if we could get our orders to go. Super underrated Italian restaurant in Mount Vernon. We love love coming to this place as all of their dishes are super generous and portion, size and very play or fall. If you dine in there's an option to get your pasta with a side of salad or soup and dessert. Their Caesar salad is unremarkable, and I find myself craving that. I've had several different pastas over several different visits. Would highly recommend for a casual/romantic/formal dinner. They also do take-out and I've ordered pick-up from there as well. The prices are a little bit on the higher end, but given the portion size and everything else that it comes with I'd say they're appropriately priced. I had a great experience. It was my first time as I had passed this restaurant on the freeway countless times. It was on my list, and it did not disappoint. The menu has a lot of variety, their homemade pasta is sooo good and the wine list also has a lot of choice from different regions. Been here twice and if it wasn't for my waistline, we'd eat here more often. Service both times has been very friendly. I'm picky about my pasta, don't have to worry here. They make theirs in house. Wife had the gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce both times, because it's that good. Tasted fresh and the sauce is incredible. I've had the fettuccine de mar and the lasagna. Both very tasty. Il Granaio was able to seat our party of 12 with ease with only two days notice. We'd not been here before, but the place is adorable inside with unique colorful rooms throughout the space. We love this restaurant. I just want to say thank you for saving our anniversary, Tony! Wonderful food and wonderful staff. We ordered on GrubHub Monday night after a long drive from Idaho after visiting for a family matter. It was our first anniversary, tired and getting back late, we wanted a great meal to celebrate. Somehow the order from GrubHub didn't come through correctly at the restaurant. All in all our driver showed up at our doorstep with a piece of chocolate cake and no food. Best Italian food I have had outside of Italy! I ordered the INSALATA DI MARE, a mixed seafood "salad" with lots of different shellfish and crustaceans and both rings and tentacles of calamari. No greens at all. The oil and lemon dressing was perfect. My friend had one of the Sunset Specials, a four course meal for about $30, and shared some of it with me. The bruschetta was delicious, the Caesar salad he chose was good. His choice of FETTUCCINE CON GAMBERETTI E FUNGHI, pasta with prawns and mushrooms, absolutely delicious. He had ordered spumoni ice cream as his fourth course but we were both so full (I ate some of the bsalad and pasta and gave him some of my seafood) that we changed it to cheesecake to go. Carbonara I don't know if I've ever seen that much butter/grease in the bottom of a plate. Salt bomb. All I could taste was salt and grease. Couldn't take more than a few bites. Vodka sauce with smoked salmon pasta. Again one flavor overpowered the entire dish. The salmon tasted ok but literally that's all you tasted. We would have preferred it be on the side instead of mixed in. We don't live in the area so won't be back to give them another chance. We went to this restaurant tonight for my niece's 21st birthday. Our server said she was in training and that it was her 3rd day. She seemed annoyed or angry and was very curt the entire time. The food was great aside from my sons spaghetti and meatballs. The noodles were hard and stuck together in some places in clumps, like they had been undercooked. But because the server was in such a foul mood already, My son said he would just eat around the clumps instead of sending the food back. When i originally made the reservation, i wrote in the comment box that we were coming to celebrate a birthday and multiple times during dinner and ordering drinks, we let the server know that it was my niece's twenty first birthday-she also should have seen it when she checked her id.. yet, we watched one table get a free Appetizer for their "birthday" And another table get a slice of cake with a candle in it for their birthday. And my niece sweetly sat there, with zero acknowledgment. We don't need the free things but 21 is a milestone birthday and we chose this restaurant because it came highly recommended, for the food and the atmosphere.
