Since the restaurant turned off the feature to review on Grubhub I have to place a review here. The first time I ordered they cancelled my order after it was submitted 30 minutes prior. I decided on another to give them another chance. I was notified by Grubhub that the original delivery estimate was going to be an hour longer. I decided to make a short trip to a local store when I see the delivery guy come earlier than expected. The food was just ok. For the prices they charge it should be outstanding. They don't give you grated cheese or any Italian bread. I think this restaurant is short lived. read more

Me and my husband loved the place! Food was very good and service was excellent. They were going above and beyond to please us: fitted us in the fully booked place without any reservation, when I found my meat being a little pink (which I actually asked for (medium well)) they offered me to pick any other meal without any charge when I actually wanted to pay for it since it was not their fault but they didn't include it in my bill. We had an amazing time with live music and people dancing around. Great atmosphere feels just like in the city but 5 min from home. Looking to going back there sometime soon. read more

I had dinner on a Saturday night, from the appetizers (blue point oysters and fried calamari) to the main courses (black ravioli stuffed with crab meat with pieces of filet mignon on the side and a chicken dish) to the service, atmosphere.... I can tell you I will be visiting this place monthly.. It is such a warm and inviting place, the have renovated the inside to look even more inviting. My wife and I went to dinner this evening.we have been regular diners there since the restaurant opened and have always enjoyed the food.While the crowd has always been a good fellows type tonight was the last straw.Rude obnoxious people who have no consideration for fellow diners. If you request a special table with plenty of notice don't expect to get it. The owner gave us some lame excuse that he need the table and put in between to large table of which we could not even hear ourselves. while the food was ok the place is not what it was. We actually had to move our table because the people next to us were on top of us while they were standing and talking to friends. This place is no longer a fine dining spot. There is better on Staten Island try Bochelli on Hylan Blvd if you want good food and a better element of people. My wife said we should have gone there-she was right. The food takes way too long. I was there over the weekend .. the appetizers came after an hour. We asked for Tito and grey goose and got vodka that taste like rubbing alcohol. Went there this weekend with family for a birthday celebration. I loved the atmosphere. The staff was very nice and attentive. The food quality was really out of this world. It was my first time there but I already am putting this on my new favorites list. I had an amazing broccoli rabe appetizer, a wonderful beef wellington and an incredible dessert. Started off with zucchini flower fritters, which were good but went downhill from there. Tried the eggplant appetizer, Sicilian style with honey and red pepper purée, very small and the red pepper was overwhelming, tangy and mixed with the strong Parmesan cheese flavor was inedible. For main dishes we ordered the red snapper from the menu and the porter house steak special for two (medium). The steak came out and was rare and had to be sent back. In the meantime we started to eat the snapper which tasted very fishy and the sauce was extremely salty. The waiter said this may be due to the skin that was on the fish and he took it back to have it remade. The steak came back out and was STILL rare and had to be sent back another time. When the snapper came out the second time, it was less salty but still tasted and smelled fishy. The steak came out the third time, finally no red but portion was not as large as what we would have expected for a $110 steak. It barely fed us and there was maybe 2 slices of filet. The wait staff apologized, but the meal was inedible and cost us 200 dollars plus tip for two people. read more

I've been here a few times with friends and my cousin...apparently I need to always come with my cousin who knows some of the waiters and owner because I came with my family for a special birthday without her and it was completely different atmosphere and food not good at all. Portions way smaller than when I came the other times. We got the prix fix which we have gotten before and it was always good and plentiful.....this time the sauce for the calamari was way too bland no taste at all!!! My husband ordered the stuffed filet of sole and he was lucky to get three bites out of it and paper thin he didn't even know what kind of fish it actually was. I had the pork chop which I've had before and was terrific NOT this time it looked like fake pork and was covered in thyme spice which I hate and way too much of it. The broccoli was right out of the pot no seasoning at all and the mashed potatoes the same issue no taste. I had my two grandchildren with us who didn't get dessert but we did - Tortoni no choice here!!! and coffee never asked if we wanted cappuccino instead (I would have paid extra) so I asked for ice cream for the kids they had the nerve to charge 16.00 for two scoops of ice cream for the two of them.....really!!!! Two things in life you avoid. Death and this place. I could be upset at the prices but that wouldn't do justice to the fact the food and the service was horrible. As many of the reviews stated the portions were very small and the wait in between courses was extremely long. So long to the point I was wondering if we should leave and go elsewhere. We stayed the course and things went down hill from there. The appetizer was Octopus over arugula that was drowning in oil. Lobster was rubbery and the texture was odd. Dinner I had the special Filet Mignon over linguini and pesto sauce. The pesto was non existent the linguini was awful and the steak was three little over cooked chunks. I could go on with regards to the fact that the other 3 couples we were with did not like their food either, but this review would get repetitive. For the price we paid we could have gone to NYC for a steak dinner. Even the dessert was bad, and as I write this my wife made a bee line towards the bathroom with a bad stomach ache. read more

Went here for Mothers Day, a party of four. The food was good service a little slow and had to ask for bread, which came out of the microwave. So that means rubber bread. The menu was fixed at $55 per person. Fair enough. The drink prices where very high. I can deal with that also . What turned me off to this place was when I received the check which was $398.55. Now I don't mind spending $ for good food but the fact that they added on $63 for a tip on a party of four is ridiculous. I always tip heavy when it is warranted but to add A 20% tip automatically on a table of four is wrong. Check your bill when you go here. The food was good but pricy but I knew that before I went. Nothing but the best at il sogno. One of my top favorites on the island. The Fusilli alla sogno is my FAVORITE dish. The food is excellent, drinks are great & service outstanding. This goes for both having dinner here, as well as a party. Sometimes with big groups the service lacks but that is NOT the case here. I booked my engagement dinner party for about 35 people at a restaurant in NJ on the beach in Long Branch (see other reviews lol) and last minute had to cancel. Il sogno came to the rescue just 2 weeks in advance. It was a great evening with the private room. All my guests loved the food. They give so much- which of course is a great thing! All my guests left FULLL & most importantly pleased. My fiance & I started going here because we knew Pedro, the owner, from other restaurants he worked at and he really is the best. A genuine person who looks out for the best interests of his customers. He deserves the best with all his success in the restaurant. Many restaurant owners should take notes from him. The hospitality you feel at a restaurant is just as important as how good the food is. They have entertainment which is nice, more so for an older crowd though. But it's great either way. The night of my engagement dinner, people in the restaurant part were up dancing as it got later into the evening. But if you're not into that at a restaurant its ok you can just sit in the other room. The outside area is in the parking lot but it is set up very nicely ever since they redid that lot. If I could give this restaurant a -2 I would. Where do I begin... After a recommendation from my father's friend, we decided to give this place a try for Christmas Eve as it was close to home and we didn't feel like traveling far. Keep in mind that I made this reservation in the middle of November. (Party of 5 at 6PM) It's the day before Christmas Eve and I stil have not yet gotten a call confirming my reservation, so I decide to call them. I was greeted by a rude gentleman on the phone (didn't catch his name) and I couldn't decipher whether he had an Italian accent or Spanish accent. Any who, not the point. I said I was calling to confirm my reservation for tomorrow gave my name and stated it was a party of 5 for 6PM. He rudely says "no we don't have that, we have Kristin at 4PM for a party of 4" I told him that was not my reservation and he proceeds to grunt. At that point he puts me on hold for a good 10 minutes. Picks back up and says "we have Kristin for a party of 4 at 7PM but nothing at 6PM for 5." I this point my blood was boiling and I said sir I made this reservation over a month ago. He tells me to hold on and Pedro gets on the line. He says "ma'am we don't have your reservation but we will accommodate." I felt like saying yeah great, I booked this a month ago you moron but thanks for being so accommodating. He then proceeds to say MAKE SURE you are on time! Right then and there I should have said to take your reservation and you know what with it. I should have known this was the beginning of a terrible night. So my party of 5 arrives at in 2 parts: 5:30PM (2 people) and 5:45PM (3 people). We were seated immediately. As I look around the restaurant, about 10% is full so in my head I thought what was the urgency to get there on time. We were greeted by an overzealous waiter and it's understandable, it's Christmas, He proceeds to hand us a holiday menu with about 10-12 items on it. The prices on this menu blew my mind. I'm a foodie, been to restaurants all over, so to see these prices I thought wow this food better be good. Well... It wasn't!!! For appetizers, we ordered Fried Calamari, Risotto Croquettes, and Kobe Meatballs. I'm going to give you a detail description on each plate: 1) Fried Calamari - It wasn't too bad, for the 6 pieces we were given. We were a party of 5 and for $16.95 you would think the dish would be plentiful. Well it was not. We literally had two pieces each, it was just so embarrassing to charge so much for a portion that was so small. 2)Risotto Croquettes - They came two to an order for $14.95 so we ordered 2 orders. Well let me tell you, if we knew how bad they were, we would have not even ordered any of them. I can't even describe the flavor. It was kind of like truffle meets undercooked rice. They were just horrible. But not as bad as the next dish. 3) Kobe Meatballs - Now I've had Kobe in Tao, Nobu, Morimoto, etc so given it's Staten Island, I wasn't expecting it to be out of this world but I was expecting it to somewhat decent for $19.95. Well the only way to describe these little tiny balls we were given was that the chef went behind in the alley way, grabbed a cat, castrated it and threw it on a plate. It was by far the most disgusting this I ever tasted. There are no words. They were not even edible. Ugh... I think of it and I still get sick. So that was our appetizers. Now onto dinner, 3 out of the 5 of us ordered the Pork Osso Buco which wasn't that bad and the risotto under it was pleasant. Only problem was the lack of meat on the bone but if you wanted some extra fat, the bone surely had enough of that. The price was $29.95. Myself and my mother had the surf and turf which was good but I guess I look like a toddler because for $49.95 the size of my steak and lobster tail were despicable. There was nothing to it. It left you hungry. Now I'm not sure if this restaurant thinks they are Le Bernardin, but reality check... you are located in Staten Island, you are overpriced & your food is subpar. So now we finish dinner. Oo did i mention we got there at 5:45PM, well we were done with dinner at 6:25PM. They wanted to get you in and out of there as quick as possible. They literally just cleaned the table and waiter comes over to offer dessert and I said "excuse me sir, we like a minute to digest" He was so rude I have no words for it. So we sat and chatted for a bit & I would like to mention this before we talk about the bill that only two people in my party had a cocktail (Grey Goose & Cran and a Sangria) Now the waiter comes back over and ask us what we would like for dessert. There is no menu with dessert so he reads the choices. We decided on 2orders of Tartufo. It was ok at best but really, how can you screw up ice cream. We also order two decaf cappuccinos and one regular cappuccino which they brought out when we were practically done with the tartufo. Bills come $435 for 5 people & crappy food. Never again will be going to their terrible establishment. read more

I went to Il Sogno in February 2015 and it was great, food was tasty and the music was awesome Julian and Dominique the live singers had the place hopping! I returned this past weekend and I was not impressed with the food and neither was my husband. Also no live music until 9:45pm. If Il Sogno is charginig those prices for food then live music needs to start at 8pm. You're pretty much paying for the atmosphere there.
