To say I'm a bit protective of my car, might be a bit mild... just ask my wife. So while it still has a warranty to cover much of the engine, transmission, etc. I had a to address a few non-warranty issues like brakes, transmission service and an 80K mile check. After another bad dealer experience it was time to make the break with dealer's service dept which keeps having me come back for redo's of repairs. I didn't want to just put on brake rotors from NAPA, for an Accord or Camry driver, I'm sure that's fine, but I have a German car, and I wanted to improve off the already great brakes. So I upgrades to ATE premium grooved rotors and ceramic pads and ISC likes to do upgrades as well as the standard oil change and repairs, which I also needed. So here's the deal, you don't need to pay the dealer Thousands for Hundreds of $$ worth of work, take that extra $$$ and buy your wife something nice or save it for today's gas prices. As it turns out several of my friends were already using Dan for their BMW, Porsche and even Ford repairs/service. He's has a friendly staff and couldn't be more accommodating to my schedule and my OCD VW disorder. read more

Import Service Center is an old-fashioned auto repair shop, with old-fashioned values and quality service. They've been in business for nearly 35 years. It's no coincidence that you'll see everything from exotic roadsters, to everyday SUV's in the parking lot. These guys really know cars and take pride in their work. They do it right, the first time! Unlike many big name auto-repair-centers, including some dealers, they're not there to sell you parts and service you don't need. In fact, that's how I first learned about Import Service Center. A couple years ago I took my then seven-year old Honda Pilot to the dealer to have them do an oil and filter change, as well as replace the brake fluid. When I went to pick the car up, the "service adviser" presented me with a two-page list of "critical" problems that needed to be addressed immediately! It listed everything from failing suspension struts, to brake rotors that were about to disintegrate! I take great care in properly maintaining my vehicles, so this was news to me. Being somewhat skeptical, I'd told them I'd think about it and get back to them. The next thing I did was get on the internet and research independent repair shops in my area. I ran across Import Service Center's name in one of the auto restoration forums. Several people praised their service and quality of work. This is exactly what I was looking for. I made an appointment and a couple of days later I dropped my Honda off at their shop. I also gave them the itemized list of dealer recommended repairs. After thoroughly checking the car, they told me the majority of "dealer recommended" repairs were unnecessary. The car did require a few minor repairs, including front disc brake pads (the rotors didn't require any service). In spite of the fact they used better quality components than the dealer quoted (ceramic brake pads for example) they still completed the work for a fraction of what the dealer would have charged. Integrity, quality work, friendly service and reasonable prices, those things impressed me then and still impress me today about Import Service Center. It also why I give them 5-stars! read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE the honesty behind this shop! As a loyal Yelp-er I try to make sure I read reviews before going to any type of business. I had decided to go to N.C.A Motorsports and even scheduled an appointment before I called Import (note i called several shops for estimates and even the dealers) to get my car battery changed. Every place quoted me $300+ but Dan at Import saved me $50-100 more than every other shop. I will be bringing in my car here for EVERY type of service and repair, because who doesnt like the small family-owned type of business?? After some brief diagnosis of a rattle noise by Dan and team I was told I needed a new engine. I do a bit more research and find an oil chain tensioner which might be causing the issue. I buy the part and drop my car off with agreement from Dan they would check things out and replace the part if it was bad. A week passes and no update so I call several times and eventually talk to Dan who tells me again he was certain I need a new engine. I pick the car up and do the work myself in about 2-3 hours and my car is running like new. They might be good for routine stuff, brakes, clutches, oil changes, etc... but for something which requires deep expertise I'd take their advice with a grain of salt, especially of the recommend a new engine. read more

I live work in Glenview and came out to my car to drive it home and found I had a flat tire! I could see a screw right in the middle of my tire. I have never had this happen before and didn't know what to do. My boss has used Import Service Center in the past for his car and he suggested I call them. Dan was so friendly and nice on the phone and assured me that it was not a big deal and he would be there to take care of it. He showed up with a smile on his face, took off the flat tire, put on my spare, went and removed the screw from the flat tire, repaired it, and put it back on my car all within an hour!
