Wow, for 10+ years we've lived near this gem of a restaurant, and shopped weekly at the Nob Hill in the same shopping center, ... and yet never crossed the parking lot to eat here. This is the freshly prepared sushi we've been craving, the service staff was excellent, and the prices are surprisingly low (for great sushi). We had the Sake salmon roll, and another salmon roll with basil! So creative and delicious. Two soups, three rolls, one soft drink, one bowl of rice, and one hot Sake later - we made it out for $63 plus tip. Warning, we got there at 5:15 pm and by 6:15 pm the place was packed - ON A MONDAY! I am really sorry to say that we were disappointed in the food. We had three sushi rolls snd an order of agedashi. The agedashi cane without a sauce and when we asked for one, we were given what tasted like a flavored vinegar. The rolls were tasteless and the sushi rice lacked cohesion. First of all before I begin my review I would like to say; the texture they add to the food is good, very chewy and bouncy. This is the absolute best spot for basically everything they offer. Always delicious, fresh, traditional. I have been coming here for years. Really impressed how they have kept their menu the same after all the years, that they have been in business. Top notch quality, perfectly prepared and the portions are great for each dish. Overall definitely excellent for the quality and experience. Is it expensive? Yes, but you get your money's worth and I am always full after I eat one of their bento boxes. I highly recommend this place for authentic Japanese food. Do yourself a favor and give them a try. Stayed in Watsonville for a few days and ate here 2 of the 3 nights. Would have been 3 outta 3 nights but they close on Sundays. Both dinners both nights were so so good. My wife and I have been here three times, strictly for sushi, and always stop by when we're vacationing in the area. It is very consistent and the fish is quality. The rolls are good, but the nigiri is where it shines. You will not be disappointed. My favorite fish is hamachi and their cuts are always huge (which I prefer) and good quality. Sushi was ok, I had the spicy Hawaiian roll. Just so you know, that roll is raw and I have a feeling the sushi creator likes nuts as it's topped off on a couple of the rolls. If you have a peanut allergy, let them know! My partner had the poki bowl. The butter fish was good but it was a lot of lettuce and rice. Everyone else around seemed to be enjoying their meals but us. I was envious. I was starving. And I ate through it as much of it as I could but I had to ask for the check halfway through. The kimchi tasted like ass. It was as if chili and vinegar seeped into some cardboard long enough to become soggy and they decided to serve it on the menu. I ate it all because it was better than the fish at least. The maguro on our nigiri was hardly fresh (see photo). Sushi rice balls were rolled too tight. I ordered a tako and ebi tsunomono and realized there was no ebi in it. The pickled cucumber tasted like straight up sweet relish for hot dogs. And I was horrified by the unagi sauce drizzled on top. Tried to but Couldn't finish that either. We went to a cafe afterwards to satiate our hunger. My friend and I both work at a sushi restaurant up in the bay area. My friend actually is a sushi chef so he could knew right off the bat the fish wasn't good quality. It was a slightly scary experience eating here lol Sorry, Imura. It's a little place and was packed on a Fri night. They took our # for the waitlist and it did not take very long. We were excited to see a bento box option with short rib and me and my husband both got that. I was not impressed with the ribs.. not my fav. The miso soup was pretty salty and I was not a fan of the salad. The sauce was weird, though my hubby found it fine. The sashimi with mine was delicious. The sushi list is a bit overwhelming and I found the ingredients odd as I don't see rolls often with lettuce and tomatoes. Despite this, we picked the Captain Morgan roll and it was great! It was our first time going here tonight and it was definitely an awesome experience! I got the Tuna Back Dragon Roll and she got the Jalapeño Popper Roll which were both beyond tasty! Our waitress, Desiree, was very nice, funny, attentive and accommodating. We were seated and served quickly in a clean environment. On a side note, we also had asked for the hottest hot sauce they had and our waitress happily obliged. She returned from the back with a little bottle of 800k SU rating hot sauce called "Satans Blood!" We only tried a tiny bit and it definitely lived up to its heat warning label! Through our laughs and tears, the staff enjoyed our torment as much as we did! Needless to say, it was definitely a very fun time. The gyoza ramen was excellent with fresh veggies and medium spice which was actually more mild to me. I would order again without a doubt. 2 stars for the tastiness of the rolls (I'd rate the ones i had 4 stars but bad for everything else. Ok so call this a first world problem but WHO THE HELL PUTS GREEN BEANS IN A DONBURI?!?!!! Not listed on the menu. I am one of those rare weirdos who finds them disgustingly repulsive to where i wont eat them at all. Luckily I didn't eat it entirely before i put it aside and left them there out in the open for the waitress to see. She said nothing of course. Nice girl and nothing wrong with her friendless, etc. but she should be able to read the situation. I guess its good for locals. I'm a recent bay area transplant so i'm just a pretentious snob about foods. But that was such a big turn off for me. read more
