I feel kind of weird reviewing fast food restaurants because they're all supposed to live up to the same quality standards. I will say that the fries here just seem to always be perfect, with more of the crunchy fries and less of the over oiled, soggy fries. My go to order nowadays is the Double-Double without onions and an Animal Style Fries. They always seem to get the burger right here, with the perfect ratio of sauce and the right amount of char on the meat and the buns. Even the lettuce and tomato ratio is 9 times out of 10 perfect with the remaining 1/10 being that they didn't give enough. This was my first time here and I was surprised to see the quality of food and cleanliness against the price they charge. We ordered grilled cheese sandwich and fries as they are the only vegetarian option. But this was truly filling and good considering the late time it stays open. Original fries are better than others. The animal style fries and cheese fries get easily soggy and tough to eat so I'd rather stick with the original fries. Also, I got a chocolate shake. Though it says shake but it's honestly just ice cream you have to wait for it to melt a bit to start drinking. COVID-19 REVIEW We drove in around ~5:30 PM on a Friday and the drive thru line stretched all the way to the parking lot entrance. Even though it LOOKED long, it went by quickly. We had a complicated order (three double-doubles, all with grilled onions, extra lettuce, extra tomato, one regular fries, one well done fries, and one Arnold Palmer, extra packets of special sauce/spread) and the cashier asked clarifying questions and reviewed/reread the order (**I REALLY APPRECIATE WHEN CASHIERS DO THIS** a true sign of great customer service/training) We were out of there by 5:45 PM. We come here all the time because they are nearby. It's not my favorite In-N-Out and sometimes their burger and/or fries are cold. Most of the time it's good but not great and that usually has to do with the temperature and the amount of lettuce, and just how the burger is sometimes, flat, tired, congealed. In general, In-N-Outs are reasonably consistent so if any review is needed, it's about their efficiency and also the drive thru when it gets crowded. This one is average efficiency and the line spilled out to Rengstorff in a bad way. Being across from the Costco is a killer. Pro-tip - It's better to come in from Rengstorff than Charleston Somehow the one on Whipple in RWC, that one just never disappoints. read more

Hmmm - I am disappointed. Haven't had an In n out burger meal in a while and so I was looking forward to sit in my car, munch on my burger and fries while watching the sunset! Maybe it was just a fluke but today's burger quality was not up to par with "what makes them usually so much better than the all other fast food burger joints". The bun was soggy, not crisp and toasted on both insides, the salad mushy, the secret sauce hardly applied and overall I did not have a good eating experience. The lady asked whether I wanted ketchup with my fries and although I confirmed, she did not add any to my bag. Instead of serving the food in the usual somewhat sturdy carton box to eat out from (while sitting in the car), I got a loveless thrown into paper bag - just like McDonald's and all the others etc. Maybe they have changed that method of serving since I last visited an outlet. By far one of the most convenient In-N-Out locations in the South Bay. Right off 101 you can grab and go! There's always a long line during peak hours. The employees work quickly to get around the line that can wrap around the entire building. The wait times will vary depending on how busy it is. Customer service is efficient and gets the job done. The food has been consistent the last few visits. There are times when the food can flop but for the most part it's good. I love the convenience of this location. Unlike Shake Shack, which is great for durability, In-N-Out burgers are best consumed fresh to get the crisp taste of the bun and all the flavors working together to trigger different parts of your mouth. My only gripe about this place is that it's quite slow and there's always a line, to the point where some of my coworkers would rather go to McDonald's next door if they're in a rush. When I went, there was a huge drive-thru line and not too many people in the store. After ordering in-store there were 10 in-store orders before me, but I had to wait around 30 minutes because of all the drive-thru orders they had to get through before me. But the wait was worth it. It was insanely good even with the hair in my burger. I didn't eat the burger with the hair in it. As soon as I recognized it was there I took it out. Even though, it shouldn't be weird if I ate the burger with the hair in it. I was already eating another animal's body and spoiled milk (cheese). If I'm okay with doing that, why wouldn't I be okay with eating a human hair? For whatever reason, only the human hair part of the burger grossed me out. So I took it out and continued to enjoy the dead animal and it's spoiled milk. I read somewhere that, when In-n-Out was getting ready to open its San Ramon location, kids would be riding by and shouting "IN AND OUT! IN AND OUT!" The chain's reputation preceded it before the first location in the Bay Area opened. Now there are lots of Bay Area locations, and all of them are busy. The reason is that it's a simple menu, also has a secret menu, and you end up with an inexpensive and wonderful cheeseburger. The meat is cooked medium, it and the cheese is tasty, and the extras like lettuce and onions add a good taste without overwhelming the beef. Fries are nice and healthy. They have lots of people working there to make sure they get your order ready quickly, so that you're, um, in-n-out. Nearly every location has a drive-thru, including this one. During California's experiment in tyranny, when indoors dining was prohibited, the drive-thru was the ONLY way you could get and eat your double double. And that's how I got my 4x4 and my friend's double double. I worried about how long the wait was taking, but then they sent someone out to take orders and relay them inside, and things sped up considerably. They have their system down well. And the three people I interacted with - taking the order, I pay for the order, I get the order - were all pleasant and acted smiling (it was hard to tell about the smile, because they were all wearing their mandated masks that kept them from breathing sufficiently). If you're craving one of their burgers, or just hangry while stuck in traffic on the Bayshore, this location is at the Rengstorff exit, visible when you're driving south and easy to get to regardless of which way you're traveling. I lived just up the street from this In-N-Out for seven years and really only stopped by a couple times before leaving the state. Actually, that's not quite true. The very first time I came to Mountain View, flying into the area for a job interview, I stopped at this very location to grab a burger for lunch. To be honest, although I'd tried In-N-Out several times since then, I always thought it was overhyped. But those last few burgers -- double meat, animal style (no cheese) -- I had were extra special. The animal sauce, the mustard seared patties, the toasted bun. Everything comes together to create this decadent explosion of flavor, tempered only by the fresh lettuce and tomato. In some ways it's good that I no longer live up the street from this In-N-Out anymore; it's too tempting (although now the nearest one is over 200 miles away). They haven't had a person outside with a pad to take orders, which they've had in the past. As I have noted in my review of Shake Shack, we are having generational feuds it seems over what in reality is a fast food burger. Yes, to my detractors, I have yet to try What a Burger, but its pretty clear that all of these fast food establishments are pretty much in the same league thus the proverbial chest thumping has less to do with how good the actual product is but rather about regional pride. So in that light lets take a look at the Burger of my youth and beyond" In-N-Out Burger. In and Out is strictly a family owned concern. Any of the outlets you see are not franchises but are rather owned by the parent company. They all more or less follow the same architecture and are always noteworthy for the crossed palm trees which in company lore a reference to the movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". The menu is simple and in all the years I have been go there has changed little. Being a family owned company it can do (and get away with) stuff like the placement of small lettered bible passages on the cups and wrapping material. its not obvious, but its a bit annoying for those of us not so devout. They also are one of the pioneers of the secret menu. Unlike many that have added it to their offering, to be cool, In-n-Out has had this for some time: A true in and outer will understand what I mean when I order this: Double double animal style with a flying Dutchman. Some of the more common secret items: The Flying Dutchman = two patties with cheese melted between them Protein Style = no bun, its wrapped in lettuce Grilled cheese = grilled cheese no meat 4x4 burger = 4 patties 4 slices of cheese Animal Style = mustard grilled patty and grilled onions (can also get fries) There are tons of other combinations For me as always its going to be a cheeseburger, animal style with both kinds of onions. The potato bun is fresh, and designed to hold up to the burger, no more, no less. The mustard grilled patty hits it off with the grilled onion and cheese and the fresh lettuce, tomato, an secret sauce (which you can get in packet form BTW) ties it together into one messy handful of perfection. The only reason I don't give them the 5th star is that the fries suck. They are not double fried, so they tend to be just bad. You can actually order them underdone or extra crispy and neither help them unless you have some sort of under done fry fetish or something. Also note there is seldom a slow time to go there. Really wasn't sure what all the rave was about, but this stuff is good! My brother is a total burger boy, and after trying quite a few in the area, he said this was hard to beat. And that too after just trying the regular cheese burger. No extras, no fancy sauces, nothing. Generally speaking, In-N-Out burgers are good. They have a soft spongy bun, moist patty, thousand island-like dressing and crisp lettuce. I always order mine with grilled onions which gives it more flavor. As with most fast food burger joints, the meat patty is thin so you don't get much beef flavor but what do you expect for a inexpensive burger? I usually order a double meat but while it adds more volume of meat, it doesn't add much more beef flavor. I love french fries but In-N-Out's fries don't taste good IMO. Yeah, they are real potatoes cut in house and freshly fried but since they are only fried once (most places fry them twice), they don't have that nice crisp. If you order it crispy, they fry it longer but then it just tastes like dried up potatoes. No bueno. In-N-Out prices are good and everything is freshly made to order so overall I am a fan. read more

This In n Out is usually pretty quick considering how long the drive thru line always is. It's off the freeway which I'm sure causes even more than average patronage. I've never had any issues with the food from here. Always fresh. Just be prepared to sit for awhile if you're going through the drive thru. read more

In-N-Out is by far my favorite fast-food burger place in the US (sorry all Shake Shack fans). They have so many options, and all of them are of superb quality. Our group got a protein cheeseburger with double meat, a double double, and a cheeseburger. We got a side of fries and a Neapolitan milkshake. The burgers are AMAZING. The meat is so juicy and the bun is absolutely phenomenally. When I bite into it, I just love the sweetness of the bun with the juiciness and meatiness of the patty. So much joy!! The milkshakes too are splendid - super creamy and rich. And although thiccc, I don't feel guilty at all drinking such a glorious creation. The french fries were meh.
