Dinner had a completely different vibe. The restaurant was busy, which was great to see, and the parking lot was completely full. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted right away and quickly seated. Our table was already set up with menus, and we were looking forward to taking our time, relaxing, and enjoying the evening. However, I felt like the service was a bit rushed. There was a young woman and a gentleman helping us, and the gentleman in particular kept coming back asking if we were ready to order and whether we had enough time to look at the menu. I usually like to ask for recommendations and what's popular, but when I asked, the response was basically that there were too many popular dishes and asked what I wanted instead. We decided to start with an appetizer and continue chatting, but we were approached again about ordering before we were really ready. We eventually ordered the Pad See Ew and fried rice, and both dishes were delicious. I always ask for the chili peppers on the side, and they never disappoint. The food itself was very good, and the lively Friday night atmosphere made for a great experience overall. While I wasn't a fan of feeling rushed by the servers, I still enjoyed the evening. Thai House has great vibes on a Friday night and is definitely a place I'd recommend for a date night or a family dinner. We visited in a Saturday morning after the kid's swimming lesson. Maison La Jolie is a cute, corner bakery in the Redlands Public Market. After entering the glass doors, one is greeted with shelves filled with treats and pastries. My brother wanted to try the quiche, but they were sold out. He went with the almond croissant which is how he judges all French bakeries. The rest of us ordered the croque monsieur (Parisian ham, becamel sauce, melted gruyere swiss cheese on white bread), St. Tropez (prosciutto, brie cheese, mixed greens, onions, fig jam, olive oil, herbs de Provence, La Monaco (prosciutto, Swiss cheese, mixed greens, tomato, onion, herbs de Provence, and olive oil), French onion soup, tiramisu, mango pastry, and pear tart. My brother was greatly impressed with the almond croissant, honing in on the laminated dough and the frangipane--a rich, nutty, and smooth almond cream. This prompted him to talk with the owner and baker, and he shared that in baking, "you have to be a little bit crazy. I use French butter and extra ingredients!" All the pastries were expertly made and were indulgent. Both the hot and cold sandwiches highlighted the meats and cheeses striking a balance with the arugula greens. Even the kids enjoyed the greens. The French onion soup was the best we have ever tasted; a delightful bowl of rich onion beef broth, toasted baguette with melted gruyere cheese. Maison La Jolie is the mastermind of a husband-wife duo. They are a much welcome addition to Redlands.

I actually went as far as double checking on reddit and the votes were definitely in! This place seemed legit so I had to try it. It's located in a shopping plaza so there is plenty of parking. There are several restaurants in the area, while Niko Niko is tucked away near the water fountains out front. As I arrived, they quickly sat me at the bar area and my typical rainbow roll and I tried their snow cone roll. The rolls were so good and the fish was fresh! I loved the sweet sauce that was added to the snow cone roll. After about 20 mins, the chef, who's name is Yaser, started asking me what my favorite fish is and why I like it. I told him Albacore and he instantly makes me some concoction with ponzu sauce which was fire. He then asked me if I like salmon and I told him yes and he makes me a seared salmon roll with orange sauce and pepper. By this time I'm stuffed but enjoying this experience. He made going to a sushi restaurant interesting again like when I first tried sushi. We start talking about Japan and he ask me if I ever had salmon skin. I tell him absolutely not and that when I bake salmon I usually take the skin off. He then tells me that I HAVE to try a salmon skin handroll so I figured I should just go with it. My mind was blown!! I actually like salmon skin lol. It was so good! Overall, I had an amazing experience at Niko Niko and Chef Yaser. I left him a generous tip for the experience and he changed the way I will forever dine at a sushi bar now. To my surprise, I ended up trying a new drink that left quite the impression. On the barista's recommendation, I tried a roasted matcha drink called hojicha. The flavor was Salted Honeybee off their spring specialty drink menu and it tasted both delightful and unique. It had a slightly nutty, cocoa-like flavor that wasn't as earthy as regular matcha or as bold as coffee. The cold foam was absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with the drink. Definitely a great spot if you're looking to try something a little different than your usual coffee order!
