A few days ago my wife and I bought our 5th (yes - 5th) Mazda from Joe Maus Mazda and, as always, have been amazed at how nice the folks working at the dealership are and how comfortable they make the car buying process. The entire staff at the dealership are committed to friendly and accommodating customer service, providing a smooth sales process and excellent service (other than routine, service is rarely needed). Our purchases have always involved Mike Brooks, arguably the best interface between the customer and the dealership that has ever existed. What? Are you sure? -- I will offer the following characteristics of this gentleman to back up my claim: 1. Mike patiently listens to the customer's questions, needs, and desires, making sure that the product under consideration is what best matches the customer's criteria. He encourages through conversation that the customer asks questions and discloses reservations that they may have. 2. He then presents the product that they seek and then offers alternatives that might specifically benefit the customer. It doesn't seem to matter if an alternative is less costly, only that it might be a better solution to the customer's needs. 3. He is completely frank with the customer, letting them know whether their reservations about the product are a problem based on what he has heard and has discussed with the customer the pros and cons of each product in the mix. When you have made a decision, purchasing or not, you always leave knowing that Mike is the real deal, that you can call and ask questions or get competent advice when you need it. I know. After getting our car serviced, I was spoken to minimally, while my fiancé was primarily spoken too, despite not even being on the title of my car. We then noticed an issue with the stereo and once again, I was not listen too until my fiancé yelled at the team. We were then told we could discuss the issue with a manager. The team when they did speak to me told me they would charge a $150 diagnostic fee to look it over, despite the stereo issue never happening before. The manager never called. I went to an independent auto shop and they fixed it in 5 mins and for free. Both times I had my car looked at, the technicians stated "they've never seen this issue". I would suggest they look at more cars, get retrained or get let go. I would not suggest any woman going to this car dealership unless you want to be scammed. We were looking for a second vehicle and will never return here again. read more

I held off on writing this review in hopes that they would do right but here we are. I traded in my vehicle on 5/1/23 and purchased a used Lexus from Joe Maus Mazda. I was rubbed the wrong way from the moment I sat in the finance office. They tacked on a $2000 charge for a tracking system that they use while the car is on the lot that I have no use for. I asked for it to be removed and they said they could not remove it. It was part of a package that included window tinting and upholstery cleaning. Let's be clear, the windows on the car were not tinted yet and I can have the upholstery cleaned later. I accidently knocked the little tracker loose from under the dashboard one day while getting in the car, so none of this stuff was permanently applied to the car and could have been removed from the cost of the car when I asked, they just did not want to. I had to schedule an appointment to come back a few days later to get the windows tinted and it's a good thing I did. Within days of having the car, I noticed that the car shook whenever I would break so I reached out to the sales rep, Abi, and let her know on 5/10 since they had scheduled my tinting appointment for the 5/15. I asked if they checked the brakes on the car before they sold it and she told me it went through a full circle inspection. Two tires were replace and they did an alignment. Nothing else needed to be done. When I took the car in on Monday 5/15, they put me in a loaner, they checked the brakes upon my request. Their tech provided me with a report that said "1 of 1 service NEEDED IMMEDIATE ATTENTION! BRAKE ROTOR REPLACEMENT - front measured @ 28MM and have spots and needs to be replaced" at a cost of $410! Now if I just bought the car on the 5/1 and you completed a full circle inspection, why am I now expected to pay $410. I brought this up to the service department and I was told I would have to eat that cost. I told them no, I would not Bobby, in the service department said he would see what he could do. They kept my car for 5 days while we went back and forth about them covering the cost of the rotors and I was told they were going to replace them. When I got there on Friday to pick my car up, I do not think they rotors were replaced. The paperwork still had the cost on it as if the work had not been done and I was not provided anything that said the rotors were replaced, the car still shakes when I brake and the front rotors had rust on them. If they were replaced with new rotors, why were they rusty? - Not please with that situation, but there is more! On 6/6, I went to drive to work and my tire pressure light was on. The display on my dash let me know that my back passenger tire was at 23 PSI, since my tires have nitrogen in them, I could not go the gas station and fill it myself, I had to go back to Joe Maus to get it filled. I let Bobby know that my tire pressure light was on and my back passenger tire was at 23 PSI, how do I know this because it is displayed on my dashboard. He proceeds to write up my ticket and puts that my back passenger tire is low. He then goes out to the car and gets the necessary info and confirms he saw my dash and tells me if I need a patch it will be $47. They fix my tire which had a slow leak on the inside wall, and they had to take it off and patch it. When I get my car back, I notice the dashboard is not showing me the tire pressure anymore. I immediately text Bobby and send him a picture and show him that my dash is not reading my tires. He tells me to bring it back in on June 9th and he and his team trouble shoot it for the day. I pick my car back up . He tells me it will reset after I drive 100 miles. I drive the 100 miles and it still doesn't reset. He tells me to bring it back in on June 19th and they put me in a loaner for 3 days while they troubleshoot some more. He then tells me that this is an issue that is known to happen to Lexus' and he will have to speak with one of his managers to see how they would handle resolving this issue. This was on June 21st. I asked him if it was going to be a problem with me leaving with the car or if they were going to try and pull something and he assured me it would be fine. They were going to fix it. The manager was on vacation and then Bobby was going on vacation and would return July 3rd. He was supposed to reach out to me when he returned. I waited until July 12th to follow up just to see if he would. I sent a text asking if he was able to speak with the manager to resolve this issue. He responded to my text, saying that he sent me an email. The email states that the issue with my dash happened prior to me bringing my car to them to fix my tire! Why was Bobby trying to to fix it repeatedly until he spoke with malmanagement? This experience with Joe Maus has not been a pleasant one. They will try to get over on you and not take responsibility when something happens when your vehicle is in their care. read more

This place is pressure city. Stay away if you don't know what's not a good deal and get up and walk away, you'll save a lot of money. Came in to look at a new cx5, was greeted by Mike, great guy, no complaints, he should find somewhere else that treats the clients like he does. Sales management, way different story. Seems like they are 100 percent commission based, they will do their hardest to not let you walk out of there or get you to stroke that pen so fast to say you've got a deal, and are very argumentative. Never felt this pressured in my life and I've leased plenty of cars and know their game well. No deal from me. Let the general manager know how I felt and walked out. Messaged me and were able to get me to the payment i wanted the next day magically, but promised me the night I was there that there was no way to get me there. Sorry, but the client dealer relationship was tarnished by the way I was treated. Got my not one but two new CX5s from the dealer we originally leased our first Mazda. Was treated like gold, and beat this car dealers deal. It pays to shop around, never sign on first place you visit. read more

I can't say enough GOOD things about working with TRE' FOWLER at Independence Mazda in Charlotte, NC! From the moment I called their dealership and he picked up the sales line, he was professional, courteous, and I could tell immediately he is genuine. He just has an all around great down-to-earth personality. I do not live close by so we worked a deal over the phone. He worked for my business which I appreciated greatly! When I picked up the car a day later, he had it cleaned and ready. We did a test drive and he spent quality time with me explaining how the vehicle worked. Had I not been happy with the vehicle, there would have been no commitments. He even contacted me a couple of days after my purchase to see if I was happy. They took the car back without any hesitation, and gave me a great deal on a new CX5. They definitely made it right! Jack Maus initially helped us and was great with communication. The experience back on March 20, 2023 started out great! The salesman was super nice, the sales manager, etc. So we bought the Ford fusion, took it home, and a few days later my daughter drove it to Florida. On her way back, the car blew a head gasket! Yes, this is a 2017 Ford fusion with 60,000 miles. They advised us that their used cars go through a 99 point inspection. So of course we thought we had a solid used car! We called the dealership and they are very apologetic and told us to bring the car back up there and they would take care of it, even though it was a used vehicle. they said they were doing that because they only sell top quality used cars. They assured us it would be no cost to us to repair the vehicle and or trade it for one similar. After keeping the fusion for almost 3 months and going back-and-forth, the sales manager ghosting us, the owners son ghosting us, we finally had to agree to pay half of the cost of the motor to be replaced! Not only did we have to pay half but come to find out, it was a used motor instead of a new motor like we were told. then, last, but not least, we got a tax bill for the car we traded in on the fusion because Joe Maus Mazda did not do the transfer correctly. They did the transfer, but when they received the tags for the fusion, they kept it on their desk. What a debacle! I say all of that to say... I would be very very careful before you buy a used car from this dealership! . read more

Had a great experience purchasing a new car from Joe Maus Mazda. When I called to see if they had a certain model available, Noah was quickly able to determine when the next shipment would come in and was able to meet me close to my price point with limited haggling and time wasting that I was experiencing with other dealers. We went back and forth for 2-3 calls and reached a reasonable agreement on a brand new car, which was a very pleasant surprise as I was planning to settle with used. Noah was transparent with the delivery timeline and met me with some of my requests. The car came within the expected time frame. Once the car arrived, Abi immediately called to set up a time for pickup at my earliest convenience. She was knowledgeable with the features and tech setup, and went the extra mile to help with transferring plates and title. Abi and Noah are both accessible via text and respect the major personal decision that comes with a car purchase. This dealer still has the fees on top of the MSRP, but the staff is willing to work through some of these fees to win your business. Would definitely go back to Joe Maus! read more

Buying a car is stressful! Buying a car when you HAVE TO (and it wasn't in long term plan) after yours was totaled in a car accident is even more stressful. After going to one dealership and being told we couldn't test drive the car because they "wanted to keep the mileage on their cars low" and they would have to "run the numbers first", we found Independence Mazda and Rodney. We went in after work one day, he met us at the door shook our hands and allowed us to test drive a car. He stayed late that night to answer our questions and locate a car that fit our needs and our budget. Leaving that night I felt we made the right decision. In the coming weeks there were text messages and the offer to buy a higher end model... not great for me as it didn't meet my needs, all of which had previously been discussed. I don't blame Rodney for this, but the management of Independence Mazda. Over the 2 days after the car arrived I was asked multiple times what time I would be coming in "today" to pick it up. Each time I respondEd letting them know, due to my work schedule I could not be there until Saturday. Again I don't fault Rodney, but the Managment of Independence Mazda. I feel they should be reminde... it I don't work, I can't buy your product! So, Saturday came and I showed up at my appointment time with the requirements to take the car home that day... and there was Rodney waiting. The car was there waiting and Rodney shook our hands took us on a tour of the car and and let us drive it. Working with him was great. It was meeting with the financial department that saddened my whole experience. After providing the documents and payment required and again explaining that the purchase of the car was more of necessity then want, they showed my "protection plans" ranging from an additional $7,000 - $3,000. Upon explaining that this was not something I felt I could afford or needed, I felt as if I was being shamed for not buying their protection plan. I bought the car without the protection plan, and there was Rodney again waiting to show me how to download the app and work the new tech features of the car. He even touched base with me after the sale to say thank you for the business and offer any assistance in the future. I would give Rodney 5 stars But the management brought the whole experience down. 4 stars overall read more

*UPDATE* 11/18/16 It's been over a month since I bought my awesome car! Unfortunately, the dealership has not paid off my trade-in yet. The bank is calling constantly and sending collection notices. I didn't pay September after the salesman advised that I should use the payment for my old car towards the down payment on my new car, since they would be paying it off. In theory it would be great...IF they would actually do what they said they would do! Think carefully before trading in a car that still has money owed on it. My husband and I bought a 2009 Honda Civic from Independence Mazda about a month ago. Let me start by saying, as soon as the dealership realized we were interested in the car, we got numerous phone calls and texts asking us to drive the two hours to Charlotte and look at the car. We did just that. We noticed that the car had some scrapes and scratches that had been covered up with touch up paint. When we asked about this, we were ASSURED that it was just normal wear and tear and that the car had NOT been wrecked. We feel this was a LIE... Upon driving the car home, we immediately noticed that the front left fender of the car was coming loose. We contacted the dealership but got no call back. Shortly after, the entire front left wheel well under the fender FELL OFF while we were driving the car! Again, we tried to contact the dealership NUMEROUS TIMES, but could not get a response from anyone. Funny how they are quick to respond when selling a vehicle but COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE when it comes to following up with any problems.... This has been the WORST CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE we have ever had hands down. Extremely UNPROFESSIONAL and downright RUDE. I would NOT recommend buying a car from INDEPENDENCE MAZDA OF CHARLOTTE. People like this are what give car salesmen a bad name. I would recommend you drive two hours in any other direction to buy your next car, trust me when I say you'll be glad you did.
