I cannot believe it took me this long to try Indian food. I am so so sad at what I've been missing out on the last 30 years of life. Sister in law suggested spicy so I hopped on yelp to look for a place to eat. Found this place with such awesome reviews and my SIL was pushing Indian so we came. Walked in to a friendly greeting by Baloo who was shocked to hear it was my first time try Indian. He provided a sampler bowl and described each dish that was readily available (apparently this changes daily but you're welcome to order a made-to-order dish also.) Everything was DELICIOUS. I couldn't decide on 3 so I got 3: coconut curry chicken, curry chicken and channa masala. So much flavor in my mouth I was in spice heaven!! Comes with rice! I ate it ALL. The potato and bell pepper dish and the paneer (cream spinach and cheese) dishes were also amazing. I honestly wanted to have it all. The garlic naan was made fresh and man it was the cherry on top of the whole meal. So good to mop up all the delicious sauces. I will 100% be back. Good food with VEGAN options located in the back of an Indian market in a crowded outdoor strip mall. Almost something out of a Wes Anderson flick, very unassuming. The gentleman running the show was very friendly and knowledgeable. He knew what was in the food and also what VEGAN meant; he was able to quickly confirm, with confidence, what my options were. How refreshing! All too often the person serving your food either isn't sure what's in it or they are not familiar with certain dietary restrictions, which having been in the service industry for years, I feel should be part of your training. Now, not to judge a book by its cover but I would bet that at least in this location, the gentleman I am referring to didn't have any formal training, as he appeared to be the owner and it was a small "mom and pop shop" operation. Again, very satisfied with the genuine and quality service. There was a small error with the order when it came to availability, which I do not believe was very clearly communicated via the online ordering system, which is why I am docking it one star. We were really looking forward to trying some of the items that they advertise, only to find out that they were only available on certain days. I fully understand that considering the size of the operation, however, I wish it were better advertised. The market reminds me of others I have been in, I'm sure serving as a staple for the local Indian community, a place where they are able to find some items that might be sparse or non existent elsewhere, and perhaps even find some community with folks of the same culture. All in all, happy to have found the place and will definitely be back to try some of the dishes that weren't available when we went the first tile around. This place does not deserve an A rating Food is still good but they continue to use dangerous cancer causing polystyrene containers. Service has deteriorated since the owners have entrusted the operations to this young fellow who thinks he is too smart. He will undercut you on the servings and try and overcharge you. First time ordering the Cauliflower Munchurian, a Vegan dish, and it was sooo delicious!!! It was made fresh and had a slight crunch. Made me think of what I remember Orange Chicken to taste like because of the sweet tangy flavor, but with Cauliflower! Definitely recommend this dish if you like those flavors with a hint of spice. I was looking for a place to buy some ingredients for an Indian dinner and stumbled upon this place. I'm so glad I decided to visit because they had so many specialty spices and I'm so excited to revisit the next time I decide to cook Indian dinner! The owner was so sweet and pleasant, I didn't want to go for a huge bag of rice so he personally went to the back and made me two 4 pound bags so that I could use them when I needed them. Go support your local businesses! For this one in particular, the shop is a dual between a Indian market where you can find your niche indian spices and snacks. As well a small restaurant with hot and ready food for takeout and fresh warmed naan. When I went I got a two item combo, one veg and one meat. The tikka masala was good and the garlic naan was toasty and soft as well. It was my own fault getting a bitter melon dish (I don't like bitter melon) so I won't fault them for me not liking the dish. The cost of the food was about the same as other Indian restaurants I've been to. One thing that can be improved is the level of hospitality, the cashier/server appeared to be preoccupied with his phone and gave off the vibe like he did not want to be there. read more

Really disorganized menu/way of ordering and literally took like 40 minutes to get and order of chicken tikka masala. Doesn't even come with rice at that price. The owner is so nice! There are a lot of regulars and he remembers their names, their family, etc--he is such a personable person! I had to update my review and bump it up to a 5 as the food is consistently ultra flavorful and delicious (seriously, their curries are out of control) and I see so many regulars not only enjoying their conversations with the owner but also clearly enjoying their food! I definitely see myself becoming a regular here, but I'm scared I'll order the whole menu (or whatever is offered that day) every time! read more

Me and my aunt step into this place unknowingly because we were just browsing. The owner(?) offered to let us try some of their dishes and i was blown away. Do not come here. Owner and chef were not wearing mask when I entered. Food was not fresh and literally looked like it was left overs from yesterday. Food looked old and extra dry. Had to hear the owner complain about uber eats and starting cussing at them due to some issue they were having. They visibly got angry when I asked them if could have two samosas. Food had so many bones I was scared of chewing. Food was spicy but had no flavor. Samosas were good. I honestly thought about walking out after waiting for the owner to ring me up because they ignored me for about 10 minutes while they were cussing out uber. I have not visited this place personally, but I have met the owner and I have nothing but respect for him. My parents live close to his place and they are elderly and do not want to go out, especially due to Covid. My mom apparently calls the owner and he delivers the needed veggies, groceries and food (I am assuming that he delivers it while he is on his way home), just out of his good heart - to help out my parents. I live in another state and was visiting my parents, when he came late at the night to deliver the groceries and veggies. The Okra and other veggies were fresh. All the stuff was reasonably priced. He is a true gentleman and I hope to visit his shop in person next time in LA. May God bless him, his family and his business. I didn't know what to expect here. I am a big fan of Indian food and a fan of chicken tikka masala. I ordered that, it was about 11-12 bucks for an order. Multiple issues with this place. Placed our order 5:50pm and was told it would take 40 minutes so I arrive by 6:30 and they tell me that they told us the food wouldn't be ready for another 40 min. Clearly they didn't even start the order. The clerk guys goes back and forth with the kitchen guy and tells me the food will be ready in 5-10 minutes. He charges me and I end up waiting another 25 minutes. Just be honest. This is a mom and pop store and I would have understood. Issue #2 is that from the moment I walked in until the moment I walked out the clerk and the kitchen chef did not wear a mask. Towards the end the clerk wore a mask under his chin. WTF you're cooking and servicing customers without wearing a mask during a pandemic. Issue #3 is in the picture. How does a ethnic market/restaurant that has an A have roaches in plain sight? Yea cockroaches. I finally come home and realized that the chicken curry was fully cooked but the tandoori chicken was a little too red for comfort. I immediately realized that how they rushed my order might have resulted in a under cooked chicken. We simply didn't touch the tandoori chicken and put it in the trash. This general lack of common decency and hygiene is a real issue for me. This is the last time I order food from here. read more

Finally some yummy, authentic Indian food in the area! India Fresh is part Indian grocery store, part casual Indian food dining. They used to only have vegetarian dishes but I'm glad they have meat options now. For less than $10 you can get a 2 item meat combo that comes with two entrees, rice and naan. I love their paneer (spinach and cheese) and their butter chicken or goat curry. Their curries aren't super spicy but has the right amount of spice and flavor to it. I also recommend getting the garlic naan! The owners are super hospitable as well, and are always willing to answer questions about their food. Definitely a great addition to the area! read more

India Fresh is the BEST place in Covina to get true Indian food. I no longer live in the area, but whenever I get the chance while I'm in town I head on over to see Baloo. A few of my favorites are the potato and cauliflower, spinach and cheese, vegetarian dumplings, tikka masala, and a lentil dish as well. No dish is complete without the garlic naan. For the sweet treats we buy the mango lassi and golbi (not sure if i spelled that right.) but they are little round balls that sit in a rosewater infused syrup. There is another piece similar to the golbi, but its stuffed with cream cheese and sometimes topped with pistachios. There is still so much I have not tried, but so far every visit has been pleasant. India Fresh offers a great experience and good food. I recently decided to introduce my nephews to indian food and brought them here. Introducing teenagers to new food is always going to be a challenge. My nephews immediately noticed this was a grocery store/ restaurant. We walk in and Baloo the owner was very helpful and nice. I told him that my nephews were having indian food for the first time and he provided them with samples. He recommended tasting each dish before ordering. My nephews thought this was so cool. After tasting a couple of different curries, they were ready to order. I am not new to Indian food and went with the tandoor special: two vegetable entries, basmati rice, raita, and your choice of plain or garlic naan for $5.99. It's a great deal if you are hungry. I wanted my nephews to have the whole experience so I ordered some samosas as well. We took a seat on the dinning tables and began our feast. My nephews loved the lentils and garlic naan. They were also sold on the fact that all the dishes were all vegetarian. The food was good and I will be coming back here to try the spinach saag and other dishes. Super happy I found this place :) I love Indian food but sometimes going to the restaurant is too much food (especially if you want to try more than one item) and pricey. They are very nice and gave me a little sample with all the items to choose from before I ordered. The fresh naan was huge and delicious. The food portion was perfect. Only $5.99 for all that! They are also vegetarian! (They also have meat options to for all you meat eaters) I found so many delicious looking snacks that I bought a couple to try. India Fresh is located inside the very small Indian market in the back. The place is clean and stocked. The food is towards the back end of the store. After looking at yelp I was hoping I could find some of the delicious Indian food there that was recommended but it seems like the menu changes since I didn't recognize much that was laid out that day. I also wish I could say exactly what I ate but the guy behind the counter was very quiet and seemed to just be there cause he had to be therefore I could barely hear what he was telling me about the food I ordered. I know I ate a curry with potato and peas that had a nice kick to it. That was my favorite out of the two items we ordered. The food was alright. It's vegetarian only but it was good. The garlic naan was fresh, hot and delicious! That I would highly recommend just like everyone else here on yelp. I also tried their mango lassi which sweet, thick and refreshing with the food. The amount of food for the price you pay is totally a good bargain too. Between two people, we ate the two item combo for dinner and were stuffed. It's a five star all the way for what it is, vegetarian Indian fast food. The samosas were amazing and the chutney sauces just as good. The man running the shop at the time we went in was so nice and friendly. He explained all the dishes to me and even gave me a sample of their homemade mango yogurt drink. He definitely knew what he was doing by giving me a sample because I'm sooo wanting some now. The eggplant dish was by far the best I've had in a long time. The naan was so fresh and delicious.
