Decent Indian food at the Farmer's Market. I was a little disappointed that my samosa was cold. The food was tasty, though.

This is for their food truck at the Santa Clara farmer's market. They have an actual Naan tandoor oven to make fresh naans next to their staff which was cool. The lady was super nice. I got the curry and rice and she was nice enough to let me know that I could mix and match. I tried the saag and korma which were both good. The food to price ratio seems a little off given the quantity. I just listened to the Sukhi Indian Food Delivery story on the "How I Built This" podcast and I wish these folks the same kind of success. read more

$18 for a combo plate and the woman filled every area with rice before putting a tiny amount of spinach, veggies, and chicken tikka masala. There were seriously three pieces of chicken in the masala. What a terrible ripoff and the flavors were not very good. Very disappointing and I will never return. read more

I get a a vegan wrap as part of my weekly routine (spinach and garbanzo beans), which is amazing, great way to refuel after my morning jog! The lady is very friendly and we always chat a little. Love this food stand! They usually show up at Montclair/San Leandro/Palo Alto farmers markets. Haven't seen them at Hayward or Castro Valley. Their chicken tikka masala wraps are to die for. Creamy chicken + rice wrapped in freshly cooked naan for the ultimate carb bomb. Plus it's a GIGANTIC portion. Easily two meals, but may end up being one meal because it tastes so damn good. I've even found that the wrap is good the next day. Their samosas are really good too. Smooth and not too spicy. I tried the samosa slider this weekend and it was good, but too spicy for me personally. I'm sure it wouldn't even ping the spice radar for most, though. I've had the food here many times and had a consistent experience every time. Try it out if you see them at your farmers market! read more

Maybe you're the kind of person who thinks naan bread is the best part of Indian food? Well then be prepared to get your taste buds blown off, because the naan here is incredible! This food stand shapes dough into naan and bakes it right in front of your eyes! And for the few minutes the naan is out of the oven before it enters your mouth, it sits in some kind of humidity controlled warming box. I have never had naan so fresh in all my life--it is amazing. Sanitary issue I always get the chicken tikka masala in a tub. It's SO good. They make the naan fresh. The only drawback is that the cashier handles money and the naans with the same glove. And that is not sanitary at all. read more

Ordered 2 vegetable korma wraps, received 2 chicken wraps. This was a grab and go for me so I didn't find out until later and I couldn't get them exchanged. In the unfortunate bite that I had, the chicken was extremely dry. Lady was friendly but that doesn't make up for serving a vegetarian dry chicken. read more

(3) Pretty and/or useful things planted by #1 (preferably also edible & delicious). (4) Edible things grown by #1 that were at one point alive and kicking/wiggling/flying (animals!...definitely delicious!). (5) Edible things made from #2-#3 (also quite delicious). (6) Edible things made from #4 (see #4). Although I went to the Farmer's Market looking for #6 (Roli Roti), I ended up with #5 (India Gourmet). Pork Sandwich/Rosemary Potatoes were no-shows, so joined the next longest line without even knowing where the herd was headed....but it smelled wonderful! The cause for the monster line and heady aromas?...India Gourmet has married Garam Masala & Burritos, & they're breeding 'Naan Wraps' like crazed rabbits, and everyone's invited to the party! There are plenty to go around, in both #5 (Eggplant, Mixed Veggie, Spinach or Chickpea) & #6 (Lamb or Chicken) varieties, only $7 apiece! I adopted the mixed veggie & spinach, which was served over basmati rice and wrapped in freshly baked naan, and soooo much tastier than eating a bunch of arugula or shitake stems. This is always a nice food stand at a bunch of Farmer's Markets in the area. They usually have samples of their naan and some of the sauces/curries available. The coolest aspect is that you can see them make their naan fresh in a tandoor oven right in front of you. As a result, the naan is really good. I think their stuff is really tasty. There are a few options that aren't sampled because they are frozen that you heat up another day in order to eat. Lamb Vindaloo is one of these, and it was pretty good, but not too spicy (which was a little disappointing for a Vindaloo). Besides Mango Lassi, they also have a "Rose Drink", which I would like to try soon, but it is nice as an option. The drinks being priced at $2 is a "good" deal when the other stands that I've seen at Farmer's Markets usually charge $3 for their drinks. read more

There is usually always a line at this stand, and with good reason. It sells fresh wraps, curry, and plate lunches, or everything packed to go. The naan is made fresh in a propane oven on the side, where a guy slams fresh down against the side of a stove. Everything on the menu is great, but for better customizability, affordability, and some left-overs, order the naan, rice, and curry to-go separately and make your own plates and wraps on the side. My husband calls it the "Indian burrito" - the naan wrap is pretty exceptional. Getting it at the PA farmer's market though is a real pain in the arse. You have to wade through a crowded PA street of crying children and $2000 strollers and people trying to get the children to sing songs and love veggies etc. BUT- if you can park in the same time zone and dodge all of the preschoolers and bleary eyed parents, you can get a chicken tikka masala naan wrap! Yes there is a line a-la Disney land circa 1987- but you've already come so far. It's worth it. Get two. read more

4.5 stars for the chicken tikka masala naan wrap for $7 - super fluffy and warm naan, good texture, tender chicken with just the right amount of sauce. Samosas are cheap at $1 each with flavorful potato and pea filling, but they're not so good served cold. Mango lassis are also only $1, but they're pretty liquidy. Awesome food. There is always a long line at the stand. I actually first tried India Gourmet at the farmer's market in Monterey. You can watch them make the naan in the oven right there in front of you. It's pretty exciting and smells soooo good. I love the "naan burrito" (officially called a naan wrap). I've gotten the chicken tikka masala and the saag in the wrap which consists of a large piece of naan wrapped around rice and curry. I've also had the mixed vegetable curry, eggplant curry, and chickpea curries as individual dished. Usually you can try samples but it's so popular that they often run out and don't have a chance to replace the empty containers. read more

Palo alto farmers market. The chicken wrap had good flavor but the rice was way undercooked so I returned it. The lady apologized but said that that was the only rice pot she had and all the rice was the same -- a bit undercooked. She then replaced it with another one, hoping it would be better.. I sat down immediately to try to eat it since I was about to walk into my yoga teacher training at Avalon Art and yoga studio -- boy was I upset to find not only the rice undercooked, but the 60% of the wrap had been burnt black! bad bad bad service.. read more

I really hate to do this since getting the chicken tikka wrap was my Sunday farmer's market tradition for nearly two years. But, well, I found one of those plastic/metal bag closure things in the chicken tikka. It was in the chicken tikka and not the naan so my guess is it just floated in there as they stirred the sauce. And when the woman made me my wrap, she wasn't wearing gloves or anything. I love street food and I'm not a stickler for this stuff, until I bit into the metal wrap thingie.
