So, four stars instead of five, only because we haven't eaten in-house, we order to-go; but if I was rating just the food and take-out experience, it would have five stars. Awesome food!!!! Always ready promptly, always the correct order, always good prices, always way more food than we can eat in one dinner. We haven't tried much other Indian food in the area because we have been satisfied here. A side note on the take-out; I have never received a more neatly packaged take-out in my life! Usually you have to handle the hot bundle of food quite gingerly as to not have a puddle of spicy tiki masala sauce on the seat of your car (of which their's is so good I would probably lick it off :-P), but India Oven puts everything in these awesome individual sealing plastic containers (not styrofoam) which were then shrink-wrapped in several layers of plastic! Surprisingly delicious food! We're thrown off a bit by the service at first as no one was at the front desk to seat us and we couldn't get a clear answer about the price of the buffet but when the food came out, it made up for any hesitations we had. We ordered paneer pakora which was like a cheese triangle stuffed with spices and then fried. The paneer pakora came with two completely contrasting sauces and was a nice transition to our coming entrees. We ordered the Shrimp Curry and Chicken Makhani Butter with a side of garlic naan. We also had the options of ordering our dishes mild, medium or spicy. Everything was great! The meals come in small silver dishes that look like they would leave you unsatisfied but are surprisingly deep and FILLED with tasty meat and sauce! Each meal also comes with a large serving of basmati rice on the side. The naan was a great addition to the meal and if you order your dish on the spicy side I would definitely recommend it as it subdues the intense spiciness a bit! Great Buffet. I eat a lot of Indian food and this place was very reasonably priced and the food was very freshly prepared. The server was not that attentive, but this is a buffet... all that is needed is to keep water in my glass and remove the empty plates. Why are there raw onion and raw bell peppers with tandoori chicken??? They used to be soft and charred and delicious - now. It even bothered to be cooked at all. The butter chicken tastes like tomato paste from a can these days. The sauces are watered down. Why?? We miss the way you used to be and wish you would return to your previous standards! The best (and only) Indian restaurant in town. I've had much better elsewhere but most of the dishes are very decent. My main issue is ease of ordering. First of all: The staff does not look at the online orders, I learned that after placing an order then finding it wasn't actually placed because they have to transfer it from their phone to the system. So next time I tried calling but the number on the website was incorrect. I did figure it out, of course. But you shouldn't need to work that hard to make a to go order. read more

I loved it. Love Indian food. This location in Grass Valley however, has less then par customer service. They push onto you the Buffett, which I'm not usually for food that is not as freshly cooked as possible. I declined the Buffett as it was more expensive and less fresh then ordering off of the menu. I ordered the Mango pork dish I believe it was, some Batsami rice, and some cheese type Naan. Verrry yummy. No refills on the ice tea and I was rushed out, but over all it was good. This place was better than expected! The curry was to the level of spicy that I liked. The garlic naan I had was also pretty good. I so appreciate consistency when it comes to restaurants. There's nothing worse than getting a fantastic meal and then going back for the same thing and there was a different cook who didn't make it as well... but this is not the case with Indian Oven! Great Indian food. This restaurant is very authentic and all the food is freshly prepared and cooked to order. The portions are on the smaller side, but the food is extremely filling due to the quality. The prices are a little high, but worth it for the quality of Indian food. You could easily split an entree here with someone and both leave satisfied. I did not get to experience the buffet because we went on an off night, but if there regular food is that good, I'm sure that the buffet would be just as satisfying, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. read more

Been back many times in the last few years and must say the restaurant is at least as good if not better than it was before. The mint chutney has been spot on the last few times I've went (remember it used to being really sweet for some reason). They always nail the cauliflower, which I love. The paneer is super bomb. The spinach is some of the best I've had (the spices tho...). The service is still kind of slow, though the servers are very friendly. Lunch is great, and the dinner buffet on the weekend is even better. Grass Valley is mostly a ____ show with restaurants and this place is one of the best in the area. This place offers delicious food at a very low price. Many different unique options, and the lunch buffet is wonderful. I gave only four stars as the ambiance is totally lacking... it is very quiet in there and it tends to be a litttle uncomfortable. You end up whispering with whoever you're with because of the odd silence. It is also pretty dirty in here, especially the bathroom! However, it is still totally worth visiting! Also!! Good food, however they have been known to charge extra on cards after processing tips. This is theft and for that I advise people to not go or if they do, to use cash so they aren't stolen from. It is disgraceful and greedy. I am speaking from personal experience, they charged an extra $7.00 on my card without authorization, after I had already left them a $3.00 tip. read more

Well he went back for thirds at the dinner buffet and I was sorry sitting next to him during Captain America. He discovered his love for spicy, fragrant Indian food at this beautifully decorated casual restaurant, and I learned to schedule dinner after the movie for our next date ;) The beer selection is worth noting and you may want to put in a to go order for their addictive Nan bread since you will more then likely awake at midnight craving it. The service was excellent and they are very helpful if you are not sure what to order. We have been back many times now and hope to pop in this weekend as well! Wow, the original owners daughter is back after allowing the restaurant to be run by employees and what a difference in service and taste. Their buffet is $13.95, all you can eat and I broke them tonight with three helpings of lamb curry. Great other dishes. They give unlimited garlic or plain Naan. The quality is back as I remember four years ago. The daughter came back in September and she noticed more customers returning and growing again. Tonight it was full. I am Indian and recently moved to GV from NYC where I was tired of eating Punjabi food made by everyone except Punjabis - resulting in a standard gravy for all dishes with meat or vegetables thrown in. India Oven has authentic Punjabi food made by Punjabis with the correct spices and flavors. We ordered Mango chicken, shahi paneer and maharani dal - all were great. The naan was very soft, buttered and tasty - unlike the dry rubbery naans at many Indian restaurants. The staff is very friendly. My husband who has a back problem asked for a cushion and the sweet lady gave him a perfect on-the-spot solution - a pillow stuffed with foam. Very glad to find this place in GV! read more

My family and I went to India Oven last night, a Thursday, for a birthday dinner for my nephew. There were six of us and we didn't experience bad service like other reviewers have mentioned. Our order was taken promptly and our server made sure he had everything correct before leaving the table. Our appetizers and entrees all arrived within good time. Everything we ordered was delicious with ample portion sizes. My husband and I recently moved to Grass Valley from Yuba City, which with its large Punjabi population has amazing Indian food. But I believe India Oven has even better food than our favorite place in Yuba City. We really did love everything we ordered and I'm excited to go again and try new dishes. read more

Yuck! Third time was not "a charm"! Tried to have lunch at the nearby Wonderful III but it was really crowded so decided to give this place another try. When I left.... I repeated to myself... "Never again, never again!" Very tired buffet and I felt the $8.95 was waaaay too high for what the choices were. The best part was the Naan .... what does that tell you?
