My order was delivered in 2 hours. I ordered at 6.40 pm and got the delivery at 8.36 pm . It was expected to come in about 45 mins and each time I called I was told the food is on its way. The last two times, I called and spoke to the owner's wife , who has an attitude problem. Both when I been at the place in person and when ordered for delivery she carries an attitude "we don't care" - her standard response is "we are very busy"....so basically, she is saying take it or leave it. And this is not the first time, typically, we order once or twice every month from here and it leaves me wondering , if the lady thinks they are "very busy", maybe we should spend the $50 +tip elsewhere? However, this time it went a little bit too much...Instead of saying sorry for the delay and finding where the order is - she started arguing when I called again. Her response was " before you said its 1 hr 45 mins late now you are saying it 2 hrs late"!! really..?? Running a monopoly on the Island with an attitude that stinks. Needless to say whereever the food was for these two hours it arrived like a cold turkey - the breads were lifeless and the tandoori dishes had lost all steam. I have been to India twice and have sampled lots of Indian restaurants around the Bay Area. This place is by far my favorite! You have to try the chicken Tikka Masala and the onion Naan bread are both terrific. I also like to get some mango chutney and put it on my bread for a sweet and spicy combo. Chai tea is a must too! The food is always fresh and tasty but not too spicy and the service is prompt and friendly. Price is very affordable and you can always share dishes to sample more flavors. Lunch buffet is OK but going here for dinner is way better. read more

This was my first time at India Palace, some locals took us here. We went there towards the end of the night on a Sunday evening. I was very impressed! I usually hold my breath thinking I'm going to get the dregs when I go out to dine late on a Sunday evening. I've been to lots of Indian food restaurants and bar none, this place raised the bar and set the new with their excellent chicken tikka. The chicken was beautifuly marinaded, very savory, and cooked to perfection. All pieces were juicy and succlient.. All the other dishes were very good, fresh, not greasy, and tasty as well. My only suggestion would be to improve the Raita, which was too watered down and not well seasoned. I may actually have to drive in to Alameda again just to get the chicken Tikka again. That alone would make the trip worth it. High reco especially for Alameda residents. read more

Every time I have been equally just as satisfied, this is the only place I go to for my all time favorite meal!! They have a good size parking lot in the back, always clean and good service. Before I went to India Palace I was not a huge fan of Indian food in general. Now I'd have to say it is one of my favorite foods and this is in my top five favorite restaurants. I order this food to go at a minimum of once a week. The chicken tikka masalla is a must and the chicken briyani (rice) is great to pour it over. I can not say enough about this place, keep it on your cell phone because in my opinion I like taking it home more than I do eating there. Also, there lunch buffet is average due to them not always having the masalla on the menu, I'd prefer to order off the menu until they expand their lunch buffet. read more

I can't really rate the service and restaurant decor really, since I've only had food delivered from this place, but I just really want to say that I'm a fan of the following: the basmati rice, garlic naan, and chicken curry. All very tasty and the curry had just the right amount of cilantro. I'm still not sure what happened when two friends of mine ordered the same type of curry dish but with different meats and one sauce was brown and the other beige, but I'll assume they accidently made a mistake on the order. I really wanted to like this place. I have been searching for a nice Indian restaurant for quite awhile. It started off nice, the Papadums were very tasty and spicy, the Naan was fresh and buttery, the portions are large, the staff was friendly and the location is nice. However, that is all the positive things I can say about this place. The food just really lacked any flavor. Perhaps the lunch buffet is better than dinner. Watery lentil soup sucks and they really want to increase volume by adding extra water! Ever since this place opened I've felt that they are just finding any way to cut costs from every direction. Disappointed after the second time around, the selection is random and the food is mediocre. The naan was stale and cold. The mango lassi was watered down, something I've never tasted before. There are only two Indian restaurants on the Island of Alameda. India Palace is the one further north on the Island, away from the crowded shops of Park St., which is awesome because you won't have a problem with parking (the place has a private parking lot with a capacity of about 6-8 cars).The restaurant itself seems to have been built into what was previously a house. The ambiance is very warm, cozy and seems like a great place to have family dinner. We got a bunch of vegetarian curries and assorted breads. They tasted good, freshly prepared, not too oily and not too spicy. We also got a starter platter which had an assortment of crispy samosas and pakoras, and was a hit in our group. If I'm in the area and in the mood for Indian food, I would come here again. read more

I don't know what is so special about this place. I came here for a lunch buffet with my brother and sister in law at around early afternoon. There weren't a lot of choices Of curry and the presentation just doesn't seem as appealing. Furthermore it took them a long time to refill the food but maybe it was because there were not a many customers in here. The only decent curry I had was the lamb curry. The chicken curry was bad; the taste was bland and the chicken was dry. The naan was not puffy and filling. The salad bar lacks ingredients to even make a salad. I will give another star for service but personally the Indian curry buffet near hayward is much much better read more

This was the best Indian food I've had in the Bay Area. We stopped in on a whim after Albert's was closed, and I'm SO glad we did. At just after 11am, the buffet was all delectably fresh and ready for us. We gorged on veggie pakora, aloo gobi, channa palak, chicken curry, and lamb vindaloo. The lamb was so moist and delightful, I almost cried. The chicken was perfect, also - and the pickle was good, too. The tea was fresh and hot, and the water flowed. Palak paneer is incredibly creamy and delicious, and I could eat about ten orders of chicken tikka masala. Not terribly impressed here. Decent food, cute place. We came for the lunch buffet. It was $8.95 for the lunch buffet. Not too bad. There were 4 meat and 5 veggie options, good. Also a salad bar that was not great, but acceptable. The food quality was only so-so. I've certainly had better. The cost is too high. Chicken Tikka Masala is $11.00 here, at House of Curry it's $6.50! They do have a parking lot, and that's a plus. read more

I have to update my review of this place and upgrade them a star. First off, they've started deliveries, and second, the quality of their food has stepped up a notch since I wrote the last review. The beingan bhartha, aloo gobi, lamb rogan josh, naan, pakora, samosas... all excellent. The mint chutney is still amazing (and the tamarind still so-so). The kheer is decent but not quite superb... it tastes a bit like paper and has an unusual amount of... what are they, sheets of milk solids?... distributed throughout. Not great. But the food in general is definitely good, and their lamb rogan josh melts in your mouth. Whenever I eat that dish, I'm glad I started occasionally eating meat again! They seem to have updated their decor a little bit, as well, but it's still a little bit dated. A shame! A good restaurant designer could do wonders with the space. But since they deliver, we just enjoy their food at our house... so I hope they keep delivering! read more

Skip the buffet at lunch. It's just super cheap food for people who want to stuff like 4 lbs of naan into their faces for under $12. Go for the actual dinner menu. Super good stuff. My favorites are the Bhindi Masala, the Banghan Barta, and the Chicken Tandoori. read more
