This place was very disappointing. I ordered the ceviche, and it tasted old and bitter. It came with a very small piece of sweet potato that wasn't fully cooked. I also ordered the Chaufa Taipa. The shrimp were not properly cleaned, and the rice had an overpowering ginger flavor with a chewy texture. Finally, I ordered the chicken capulcra. It only had a few small pieces of chicken, and the flavor was nothing like authentic Peruvian capulcra. This is the worst Peruvian restaurant I've ever been to. read more

We had Inka Cantina for our office weekly lunch get together. The salad was fresh. Chicken was good. Rice was made with hominy so that was good and different than most rices. A very cute and ambient Peruvian Restaurant with a very nice and friendly family run vibe. The service is very friendly and the very sweet elder woman working there was working her butt off doing everything from serving, answering phones, food running, bussing and even serving drinks for a good amount of the dinner hour. So clearly she was over whelmed but did her best to get to everyone so I felt for her. I'm guessing staff called out and she was left to do everything on her own. I was ok since I understand the hustle but I could tell it was effecting other people's service so hopefully they get that urgency back as it's a very tough industry. As for food and starters, a variety from Calamari Fritti, Trio of Empanadas (spinach, beef and chicken), and Causa Rellena were ordered for starters. The calamari was slightly on the burnt side where you almost tasted the slight burn and grease but had potential to be good. Maybe a sauce to go with it but I was using the green sauce (Peruvian salsa) for everything. The Empanadas were good, but the sauce it came with had very little flavor. Once again the green sauce comes to the rescue. The Causa Relleno was pretty good. I've never had anything like that before but it's like a tower of Peruvian mashed potato with shrimp and avocado. It acts great as an appetizer or something to go with an entree. Lastly for the entree, one of my favorite dishes the Tallarin Verde Con Pollo. The classic green salsa pasta with the chicken milanesa (thin chicken cutlet). While the chicken was good the sauce was a little watery and not as thick/reduced as I have had before. Again make sure to add the magic green salsa on the chicken for extra flavor. To end the night, I was recommended the Peruvian Bread Pudding whic coms with the Peruvian Ice Cream. The sweet lady recommended it and it was probably the best item of the night. Realistically a 3.5 star as it's slightly above average but hopefully they lock in on certain details as I would love for this place to stick around in this very tough and competitive industry. read more

I ordered for delivery and the food was still hot and fresh. The chaufa de pollo was full of flavor with the green sauce. For the empanadas, I opted for spinach and cheese filling. Just finished a great meal from one of my favorite Peruvian restaurants in OC. Ordered takeout by phone. Lomo saltado - a perfectly savory balance of soy and vinegar. Marinated red onions served with white rice to soak up the sauce. Ribeye is absolutely delicious but the regular steak is good too. Tallarín verde con pollo - tastes fresh and herby. I love Peruvian food but hadn't been to Inka Cantina in years. I came back with a small group for a friend's birthday dinner. 1/2 of the group had not been here or ever had Peruvian cuisine. Inka Cantina has a great menu with lots of options for everyone it's hard to pick one to try but the fan favorites are noted on the menu with a Llama. I'm not sure the menu on the website is up to date as I don't see the entrees we ordered nor did we take pictures but we ordered a chicken entree, 2 beef entrees and a vegetarian entree. The meals are served with bread and their delicious and spicy Aji sauce. Not everyone could handle the spice of their Aji sauce but everyone loved their dishes and had some leftovers. Their portions are decent size but in comparison to some other great Peruvian restaurants I've been to were somewhat small portions. One person in our party of 4 ordered extra rice as that portion is small. There was plenty of seating available when we went with no reservation. As for the food, I wasn't a huge fan not because it tasted bad, it's just that meat and French fries in a sweet sauce isn't really my thing. Oh my goodness gracious I wish I was a camel so I could eat more than one meal it was the most delicious food I've ever had in my entire life (sorry mom) and I will be coming every week from now on TAKE MY MONEY. Third entree was the aji de gallina this dish was ok, nothing to come back for. The restaurant was not busy for a Monday at 5 pm. Two slfemale servers were there, service was awful! She never came back to check on us or to refill our water until we were just about done. She was to busy yapping with coworkers. We definitely will not be back or recommend. Sautéed with onion & tomato wedges. She loved this. My husband had the standard Lomo Saltado. Same flavor with a different cut of beef (maybe round?). This is his fav. Always orders the same thing. Why change when he loves this? That's his attitude. Had my fav Tallarin Saltado de Mariscos. Nice generous portion. Tender fish slices, squid, & shrimp. Also very good. A soy sauce based seasoning (the same as above 2 dishes) with herbs I couldn't distinguish & of course aji amarillo. Their version was just a bit saltier than I've had. It's kind of like having your mom's version of something at your friends home. Their version is also good. Just a bit saltier. And no I'm not on a reduced sodium diet. Love their aji verde & French bread. Their version is a bit hotter than others I've tried. However, this is more to my taste. I prefer spicy. Loved it so much I requested the purchase of a container to go. Yummm. No matter how many recipes I've tried with all the legit ingredients (aji amarillo) I just can't get it right. I've dined here plenty of times, but this time I couldn't dine in and had to order to-go. I tried calling about nine times and the phone kept being busy.... Are we in the 90's??? No call waiting or second line?? Lol Anyway, I wasn't able to order my food over the phone (I know I could've ordered through a third party, but I wanted to order direct), so I sent my husband in to order. Turns out the lady employee was on a personal call, told the person on the phone "I'll call you back later" very candidly. Took the order and called her friend again. Wow, holding up the phone line around dinner time for personal calls, sounds like they're losing out on business. The Arroz con Mariscos was delicious and the alfajores satisfied my sweet tooth. Had the Cabrito Norteño but it wasn't authentic to the north maybe they can specify that the dish is a fusion instead. Cabrito Norteño is not made with a red wine sauce , it was ok but the portion was very small compared to other restaurants serving that dish. You ever have one of those dishes you try once and then keep dreaming about? That's lomo saltado for me. So when the craving hit, I HAD to find the closest Peruvian place, and that's how I ended up at Inka Cantina on a Wednesday evening. PARKING: Shares a parking lot with Shabuya and the other businesses in the plaza. When we went on a weekday evening it was a piece of cake, but I've been to Shabuya for weekend dinner before and I'd say just be prepared for a little roaming around and perhaps settle for a space you have to walk a bit from. WHAT I ORDERED: * Empanadas, one each of beef, chicken, and spinach+cheese ($14.95) * Fish ceviche ($19.95) * Lomo saltado ($17.95) FOOD + DRINKS I think right off the bat my impression would be that the portions were smaller than we expected / have found elsewhere, which I don't think is necessarily a bad thing - just means they prioritize quality over quantity. And indeed they did. The empanadas were nice and crispy on the outside, but I'd say the star of the show was the spinach and cheese since I think the meat was a little less than impressive (tip: you can mix and match the type of empanada when you order!). The fish ceviche was also delicious, with nice big chunks of fish. Onto the lomo saltado! It was pretty standard. The beef was just a bit tough, but everything else about it was great. Looking back perhaps the Cantina's Lomo Saltado with the ribeye would have been better. Will have to come back for it. SERVICE: Amazing! They kept coming by with refills of water and checking in on us, and were happy to answer questions we had about the menu. Did I mention ... they give you free bread and butter! VIBES: When we came in it was pretty empty, probably because it was the weekday. The place was nice and cozy though, with lots of space, the type of place you can take your family to. (I did not get her name, but she was older and experienced in providing excellent customer service.) I have eaten here before and the quality of the food is still flavorful and well prepared. They give you some bread and green sauce which has great flavor, but a little kick to it. Lomo Saltado is always a recommended classic dish that you can't go wrong with ordering. This place is the worst. This is not Peruvian Food. Their beef empanadas were full of meat that had the fat attached. The empanadas have too many raisins in them. They are using the raisins as a filler to improve margins. They're stealing from the consumer. The Picante de Pollo I ordered was listed as a chicken dish. But its a chickn soup, check my pictures. No flavor what so ever ... Potatoes, chicken and broth. Nothing else. Further.
