I have been fortunate to finally find an auto repair facility that is trustworthy and knows how to diagnose and repair automobiles. I bought a 2012 Subaru in November 2023 for the original owner. The car has 112,000 miles and was well maintained. I noticed the A/C was not blowing cold on a warm December day last year. I took the vehicle to Brandon Tomes Subaru late December to have the problem checked. They added freon and put in dye to see if I had any leaks. They did not see any so they told me to drive it and see what happens. There was a warm spell in early February and the A/C was not working. I took the vehicle back and this time they said there was a fault with the flow sensor inside the A/C compressor and it would need replacing at the tune of $1,700. I felt something was not right so I postponed the repair to do a double check. I looked on youTube for insight and found MrSubaru1387 channel. After some informative information on Subaru A/C issues, I decided to get a second opinion. I searched for highly rates non dealer repair shops and discovered Innovative Auto Works of Plano, TX. They had fantastic reviews and were endorsed by AAA Texas and were affiliated with NAPA. I made an appointment and brought my Legacy in to be checked. I met a very pleasant service advisor, Ken. He was very welcoming and listened to my concerns about the A/C problem and my experience at the Subaru Dealership. I felt very confident my problem was going to be handled correctly. A few hours latter I was texted good news! My compressor was fine and there was just a broken wire to the flow sensor which is outside the compress, not inside like Subaru said. Ken texted me pictures of the problem and what was going to be done and the cost of the repair. My vehicle was fixed the same day unlike the dealership which took three day the first time and the problem was not fixed. I will definitely bring my three Toyota vehicles to this shop because I have had similar issues with miss diagnosis and inflated repair estimates. Was recommended by a friend and could not be happier! For four years, took the car to one mechanic after another, to no avail. They all said the same thing, there's nothing wrong, it's just dust/dirt getting trapped, just get used to it, etc. Was trying to "get used to it" when I decided to try one more time. I was on a roadtrip to Dallas earlier this week. Literally, right before I was going to drive back home, my car wouldn't start. AAA suggested Innovative Auto Works, so I just went with it because I was desperate. These guys were able to diagnose and fix a broken alternator in under an hour and a half for a reasonable cost. There's also a comfy lounge to sit and wait in with a TV and (recent!!) magazines. I believe they also have drinks. I really appreciate how these guys didn't try to tell me other things were wrong/upcharge me. Everyone I talked to was really nice. I wouldn't hesitate recommending them to others. read more

Not the cheapest, but the best. They are honest Christian people. They won't tell you something just to get your money. You can ask if it must be done now, or will wait and they'll tell you truthfully. My whole family, including grown kids, have been customers for 10+ years. Addendum: Took our 2004 Corolla in to Toyota of Plano yesterday for a recall repair. What can I say? They told my husband that the radiator was only half full and that the water pump was leaking. They also said the emergency brake needed to be cleaned. My husband ok'd the emergency brake "cleaning" and had the oil changed and the car inspected. But when he told me all the other stuff and that the total would be over $900, I said wait and we'd take it your mechanic. (Innovative Autoworks) Lo and behold! The radiator was full, although the fluid is a bit dirty. And there's no leak now, nor any evidence that it has ever leaked. They also laughed at "cleaning the emergency brake". So, is Toyota of Plano incompetent and got our car mixed up with another, or are they just plain theives? Either way, it would have cost us $1000 had we placed our trust in them. I trust my cars to no one else! I have been using their services for a number of years. I like them because they will fix a problem and let you know of anything else they discover in the process. I recently experienced some overheating of the engine. They diagnosed the problem as being a hole in the hose under the radiator. They also let me know the hose on the top was extremely soft, an indication that it was getting ready to go and that the fan assembly was bad. They let me know they needed to look at that more closely to determine exactly what was wrong with it. As they began to work they discovered that the "neck" of the radiator was close to giving out and there was a hole in the radiator core wall and suggested that be replaced at the same time. This particular car is 15 years old so I was expecting some wear and tear to be discovered. They also informed me that the motor mounts and trans mounts needed replacing. I winced as most car owners would but they told me the vibration could cause additional damage to parts that aren't supposed to move and could be partly responsible for what was wrong with the radiator. They helped me to get a rental car, no small feat considering we had just had a tornado in our residential area and many with damaged or destroyed cars had already rented the majority of the available vehicles. Ken called around until he found one. I am on call all over the metroplex so not having transportation is NOT an option. So glad he stuck with it and found something. I got the car back and could not believe the difference. I actually started it twice to be sure it started because it was SO quiet. I thought the vibration I had been feeling was just an older car being an older car with some looseness in it. This felt like a brand new car! I am serious, you can barely feel or hear anything. Runs cooler too. Definitely a happy camper and knew the repairs were not only worth the cost but would likely extend the life of the car by a few years. Gotta love these guys. They know their stuff, they're honest and won't take advantage of you. They do quality work. They will continue to be my car care choice for the foreseeable future. I brought my car to Innovative Auto Works based on the other Yelp reviews. I usually dread having auto repairs done because of the repair guys and unpleasant customer waiting areas. However, this place is different! The staff was pleasant and professional. They did the repair I came in for and didn't try to do extra work I didn't need. The work was completed as promised and I was updated on the status along the way. The waiting area though a little small, is clean, nicely decorated and has very comfortable furniture. It's more like you're sitting in a living room. Target , a Beauty Supply store and a few fast food restaurants are within walking distance. This was my first visit but I plan to come back if I need other repairs. I will recommend this shop to my female friends. read more

I have always wanted to buy a 1985 IROC Z28 Camaro. Last year I found one for sale in California and it only had 4550 miles on it! I called "Innovative Auto Works" and asked Rick Palmer if it was a good idea to buy the car. He gave me some coaching and pointers on what to look for, what to avoid. Fortunately, the car qualified! So I bought it and had it shipped out to me here in Texas. Now I drive the Camaro as a second car. And when I need service; I take it to Innovative Autoworks. The have knowledge about every car on the road that is not common these days with all the newer cars operating via on-board computers! Hardly anyone wants to work on super old cars; not even the dealerships that might have sold the cars originally. Most service shops don't have the skill required, and they don't want the hassle. They just want the easy service jobs they can crank out. I took the Camaro into Innovative recently for some service. I didn't think Innovative could help, but I also told them about the car's headliner. It was kind of drooping down above the driver's side... I thought it was just age, and the headliner needed to be glued. But the headliner actually needed to be totally replaced. I was not upset about that... The car had been stored and very lightly driven for 30 years. You expect some deterioration. You expect to have some age issues to sort out when you buy a car like that, even if it is almost perfect! What I was concerned about was having a quality job done, and knew it was going to be a hassle too. NOT!! Innovative not only knew the right place to take the car; but they took it over there, and drove it back to their shop when it was finished! No hassle for me, no nothing! Innovative is not a body shop or some kind of car restoration place! But they are way more than the typical auto repair shop. They know all the players in the industry and who can be trusted. That headliner work? Incredible. Perfect. It was.just like on those cable TV auto restoration shows where they show the restoration work done on cars they are working on and you are blown away by the quality. I was super happy. Brought my can to IAW for brake work (too much travel in the pedal and mushy). They diagnosed the problem, telling me it needed a new master cylinder for $550. These guys did really good work for us. We had a problem with the first repair they did for us, they charged $400 to fix an oil leak and a few weeks later we noticed it was still leaking some oil. We took the car back to them a few months later for another problem and because we were displeased with the previous work they waived the diagnostic fee and even fixed another problem we were having free of charge. read more
