We come to this hotel year after year because we love the location and the rooms, but there are so many things within their control that they could Improve and never address. 1. The WiFi is awful! Connect for a few minutes, get kicked off the server. After trying every remedy we know, you can guest services to see if they can restart something. They then connect you to a 3rd party, off shore service. And that tech support never called us back after the hotel phone battery died after 5-10 minutes. It's unacceptable, especially bc it is usually considered a business hotel. If you need reliable WiFi, don't stay here. If you need to plan on a zoom call while you're here or respond to a ton of emails, don't. The other complaints are minor (no coffee, the restaurants are sub par, we check in- to our room, shower and then notice there are no towels) . read more

If you ever want to feel like a king in your own castle the Intercontinental Hotel will make you feel that way. I recently visited Boston for dental conference and stayed at this hotel. From the moment I walked in until the time I walked out I was treated like a king. The service was outstanding, at the concierge level on the 12th floor for small fee, the Intercontinental Hotel offers a wonderful breakfast, A nice lunch break all the time, and top shelf cocktails in the evening. The room was spotless, I really like the see-through from the bathroom to the living room. I could take care of business and not miss a bit of SportsCenter. Nice! My only suggestion for the hotel would be to add and exhaust fan to the bathroom. LOL! Overall my stay at the Intercontinental was outstanding. read more

Very nice hotel for Boston. Great service for a Boston hotel--they try to personalize your stay and seem genuine and caring. However, be warned that check-in and check-out takes forever (took 20 minutes to check in and 10 to check out), because there's almost always a line and difficult customers complaining about various things. The bellmen/door people just ignore you and don't automatically help you with your bags. The rooms are nicely appointed, and the bed is comfortable. Good toiletries and housekeeping was very thorough. Location was pretty convenient. read more

My spouse and I reserved a room for three nights. We were forced to cancel because my spouse had covid. The hotel insisted we pay for one night. My spouse was not very sick and we could have gone but that would not have been fair to the other guests. That was not of concern.to the hotel. I travel with my own light bulb because florescent lights give me a headache and hotels these days have all florescent light bulbs. All of their fixtures had the new Phillips LED light bulbs. This hotel is beautiful and we had a wonderful stay. Great bar, on the water. Close to the North End and all the top attractions. I have stayed at another hotel in Boston at the Seaport and it is not nearly as luxurious as the Intercontinental. There is a nice pool and a fitness center. All the employees at the hotel tried to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The room is clean and everything looked new. It is across the water from an adorable children's museum. I encountered a problem with a promotion that Intercontinental was running and a very kind gentleman by the name of Michael Ditterline resolved it for me after he found out about it on Yelp. We went to the InterContinental for an event hosted by a non-profit, so obviously my experience is only about the event space/ballroom. Getting here was very easy, other than traffic, and we were able to slip right into the parking garage (which was valet only and expensive! $30 for a few hours - luckily the event gave a voucher ticket that covered some of the cost). Paying and getting the car at the end of the evening was quick & easy. From the garage, you take an elevator up to the main lobby, then have to go through the fancy looking lobby - which contained comfy couches filled with people enjoyed the food & drinks from the fun looking restaurant. You can either take a series of escalators or the elevators up to the ballroom floor. Our cocktail hour was in the lobby outside the ballroom, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking over the harbor. Obviously, this place has awesome views. I loved that they had some staff standing in place with apps and others circulating. And other than the 2 bars right in front of the windows, they had little wheel-around bars with wine! Our drink & food obviously depends on what the company ordered, but the appetizers were VERY limited (only 4, 1 of which we did not eat, as we don't eat seafood). They were awesomely presented and so-so in taste (the duck was pretty good, but the chicken had a weird crunch. The artichoke & goat cheese was pretty good, but I only got 1). They had limited wine, but the bartender made me a pretty awesome Cosmo. A big sticking point with me is that, once in a hotel ballroom, you can be in ANY hotel ballroom. This one was at least a bit different, with more awesome city/harbor views and pretty cool lighting. The food was pretty good and the presentation was fantastic: - First course was a beet & goat cheese salad, onto which the waiters poured the dressing only once you got to your seat. Other than the beets, which I do NOT like, this was tasty. - Second course was a Braised Short Rib (encircled by some sort of crispy flatbread or fried plantain? It was very hard, but once you cut into it, not too shabby) with mashed potatoes and possibly shaved string beans? - Dessert was a FANTASTIC molten lemon cake with a fruit compote sorbet and some sort of chocolate crumble stuck to the cake... And the bread? Mmm. The app & dessert were the perfect light bookends to a heavier entree. The staff is really friendly and accommodating. And I have to second Amanda L.'s comment on the bathroom! Although most people went the wrong way when entering (toward the sinks, instead of the stalls), this was one gorgeous bathroom. That's right, I said a gorgeous bathroom. Have I been to fancier events and nicer hotels? Sure. But I've definitely been to shabbier hotels and worse events. This was very nice and I would definitely go here again - either for another event, if invited, or to try that restaurant in the lobby! read more

Highlights: - Spacious bathroom, separate tub and shower - Well maintained amenities, the bathroom has the same design as the IC in LA century city, but it shows much less wear than the other. - Big flat screen TV with many channels - Very good service in general: greetings from reception, room maintenance in the morning and evening (they thoughtfully closed the curtain and left a nice good night chocolate in the evening) - Harbor view and the waterfront area were beautiful - Close to the airport but still in the city - Nice fire place at lobby Could be improved: - when my colleague and I checked out, both of us got mini bar charges for no reason. It was corrected immediately but it felt very odd. I missed my first night of stay because I had to take a red eye, but the room fee was refunded and I was able to do early check in right away. Trip started out rough as we as arrived at 7pm and was told our room was not yet ready... since normal check in is 3pm and we had status that should allow us check in as early as 8am, we didn't understand why our room was still not ready. We were also told that there were no rooms available to be upgraded too, as everything was booked up. They sent us up to the club lounge for drinks while we waited - when we got up there, there was no staff was around. We ended up coming back down and complaining and they somehow found an upgraded room that was available. It was a waste of time and we ended up having to move our dinner reservations back. The rest of the experience was okay - the room was beautiful and huge with a great waterfront view and the concierge and club lounge staff (when we went for breakfast) was helpful. However, as part of having royal ambassador status, there was supposed to be on demand movies available (wasn't available) and a welcome snack/gift (came a day late). For a 5 star hotel, I wouldn't consider it a 5 star experience read more

A really really nice hotel. So nice just know your coming out of pocket nicely just to stay here. Perfect location (on the water, within walking distance to everything minus Fenway really). Beautiful inside, great staff, one of the best breakfast buffets I done had, couple of bars, nice exercise room (pool is smaller). Beds are excellent, rooms could be a bit bigger (however the bathrooms are pretty big). Overall a place I would stay at again, especially if the price is right. read more

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. We stayed here on a business/pleasure trip for a weekend in February (It was so cold!). 1) Decor - the lobby, wall decor behind the check-in counter, waiting area lounge, and bar were absolutely gorgeous and modern. It was all really chic and simple that gave it a modern zen-type feel. It wasn't too bright or floral like most hotel lobbys. Very simple and elegant. 2) Service - IMPECCABLE. Everyone addresses the clients as sir or madame (as in most of Boston - but still). There were always people to hail you a taxi, or a particular taxi if you had a firm coupon to the airport. The concierge was knowledgeable in recommending restaurants to try at 10 p.m. at night (we flew in late from CA). However, the cabbie was more knowledgeable and we ended up eating at Giacomo's at the North End - EXCELLENT PASTA. 3) Our room - STUNNING. It went along with the whole zen feel - the bed had Egyptian cotton sheets that I rubbed my toes on all night (I am not a weirdo). We had a very large silver plasma and at the foot of the bed was a nice ottoman where we put our suitcases. At the headrest of the bed was a window opening that opened up to the bathroom (or the bathtub). The bathroom had the higher-scale amenities you find at the Bellagio in Vegas (i.e. Qtip packets, sowing kit, cotton swabs, etc.). The shower was clear glass and we had our own terrycloth bathrobes. Unfortunately, I didn't bring any bubble bath and the hotel didn't have or sell any either. 4) Location - It is a short walk away from the I.M. Pei towers and South Station. It is one block from the financial district. It's a great location that is a close taxi ride from everything. I think the new museum is walking distance, but we didn't go there. On top of the hotel are very, very expensive condos. Overall, I would love to stay here again. This hotel has raised the bar for me and has made me a bit pickier. read more

They have some sexy rooms. The bathroom has a stand up shower and a tub on the opposite wall. The tub is on the same wall as the bed connected by a wall with a window. I had a marina view it was so nice. I will absolutely go back. I also had a lovely omelette in one of the restaurants downstairs. The hotel didnt seem too secure at night, the elevator didnt need keys to get up, you didnt need it to get in the building and my keys took like 10x to make it work in the door each time. I came in at like 3am and people barely even looked up when i walked in. Quick checkin and checkout. Good service for both. read more

I had a great stay at the InterContinental a few weeks ago. I stayed overnight on business, and it was a great experience. But, I'm not giving 5 stars for the fluffy pillows or the awesome mini bar. The 5 stars go to the SERVICE. The staff here is absolutely amazing. Everyone is pleasant and welcoming, but one person in particular stood out to me and her name is Inilta. Inilta was truly an angel in disguise at the check in desk. I arrived to the InterContinental and noticed that my luggage had a smell to it... a familiar smell. I opened my luggage to find my perfume shattered in a million pieces and my luggage smelled like Coco Mademoiselle Chanel. Boy, was I upset. But Inilta went above and beyond to help. She actually had a personal sample of the EXACT same perfume that I wear and she gave it to me. I was so grateful. Not only did she not have to help me look for something, but she definitely didn't have to give me a sample of hers, and I was very appreciative and impressed by her outstanding customer service skills. It's because of the staff that I will stay here again if I am ever in Boston. Oh, and for the comfy pillows too. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at the InterContinental. Started off on a bad note, long line at check-in with only 2 people working; not what you would expect at a 5 star hotel. Fortunately everything was great after that. The room was clean and comfortable and the temperature control worked perfectly. Concierge was very helpful, getting us a dinner reservation on short notice and repeatedly patiently giving directions almost everywhere. Room service was probably the best lobster roll I had in Boston (it was my first and kept trying to match the experience at highly rated places). Location was great, can see the Boston Tea Party, walk to the aquarium and many tourist attractions. Short drive from the airport. Would love to stay here again. read more

For a 5 star hotel, I was not satisfied. The customer service was great, however rooms were not up to standards. Everything is overpriced (room service, restaurant in hotel, in room fridge snacks, parking). I liked the setup of the rooms, but I found it weird they the bed was not facing the TV. Also the TV was only limited to max volume 43 (set by the hotel?) Though 43 sounds loud, it wasn't. Room did not have a microwave and fridge was packed with things they want to sell you that I was not able to put any personal things in. Room wasnt as clean as I would expect from a 5 star hotel. Cups were not washed properly and had smudge stains on them. While using the deep soak tub, you can feel the dirt on the sides of the tub (def showered after the tub). Rinsing cups were clearly unchanged even after I checked out and checked back into the same room. You can see dust particles on the shelves and any surface. The thermostat was not working properly. Even though it was set to 80 degrees, the room was freezing. I called concierge to have someone take a look, they told us the thermostat was not working properly throughout the whole floor. It took 40 minutes for someone to come up and they accommodated the inconvenience by bringing in a portable radiator (really? I would assume a 5 star hotel would switch you into a different room). The customer service was great but I would not pay the regular price to stay in these rooms again. read more

Staying here for five days for a conference. The hotel is lovely, clean, and nicely updated. The check-in process was easy and welcoming, even though our flight landed close to midnight and we didn't get to the hotel until 1 am or so. The service and friendliness of the staff is fantastic, though our room is quite close to the elevators and we could hear the racous laughter and chatter of housekeeping quite early in the morning, which isn't the ideal way to be woken up by. The bedding doesn't come with a flat sheet -- you have a fitted sheet and a relatively small duvet for the size of the bed, so beware if there are two of you in bed and you get cold easily in the middle of the night. Other area for improvement is quality of food. The speed and attentiveness of the staff was great, but the sandwich was cold and the soup was not as advertised when it arrived to the room. Update: Checkout was a complete disaster, incredibly disorganized and lacking in operational management. Having the bell hop assist with holding our bags was also a nightmare. read more

I've had a lot of massages and frequent really nice establishments like Intercontinental because I know when I am there, I will get my moneys worth. I have visited Intercontinental hotels in a number of countries and have grown to trust their brand. I booked a massage at the Intercontinental Boston because I've been traveling extensively lately. Being out of my normal routine has caused tightness & soreness in my body so I was really looking forward to my 90 minute massage! I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could book an appointment for the next day after my plane arrived. The front desk at the spa was super helpful! When I got to the spa, I was excited and I added on some extra treatment options: yoga balm and hot stones. My treatment was expected to be $300+ which I was happy to pay. I quickly changed into my robe and went back for my treatment. I had a male provider which did not bother me at all, I've had both male & female massage therapists in my past. I explained to the guy what was ailing me and why I was there. He kept commenting on how my hip was tight (yes, that's why I'm here, please help!). I laid on the bed and the service began. To my surprise it was a lot of rubbing with very little pressure, a lot of tugging on my limbs, and randomly shaking my body parts....not your typical deep tissue massage at all. I kept waiting for him to straighten out my fascia or provide some relief but it never came. He put more oil on me than any massage therapist I've ever had before, I felt like I was soaking the sheets. He needs to work on his sheet management as there was a lot of inappropriate grazing. It happened quickly but didn't go unnoticed. I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble but I've not had that happen before so it was very noticeable. To his credit, he did ask frequently how it was going but I'm not sure how to stop in a service and say "you're not doing anything for me." Maybe one day I'll learn. I enjoyed the steam room a lot! It was a bit odd that they had shampoo, conditioner, hair dryers but no disposable combs. The bathrooms were not very clean either, not what I'd expect from Intercontinental. I spent time in the bar afterwards and have to say that this is a very nice hotel, I would have just expected WAY more from their spa. Seems like a waste of money, I wouldn't recommend the spa. read more

Was told it was for parking, in case you eat at their restaurant or you get an item out of the fridge in your room. Also BEWARE of the restaurant on site. You will be forced to pay a 20% tip. I signed the ledger for a specific amount and specific tip, they added to my tip to total 20%. How is this legal? How can they change the ledger amount after you signed for a specific payment? We had an excellent experience at the Intercontinental recently. Great service, a spacious, clean & well appointed room and the pool was a major bonus! The valet parking cost was reasonable. Our only gripe was the distance from the elevator bank to our room on the 8th floor- a lot further than we normally experience for some reason. My wife and I came to the Lobby Bar for a drink after a day of errands in preparation for the Christmas holiday! We both ordered a drink and my wife asked the bartender about a dessert menu! The response was it's in the menu you have!! In other words " can't you read"?? When I took the menu and gave it a careful reading I could not find any deserts! Upon my inquiry to the bartender his response was oh they are in a different menu??? HUH? What was worse here was a gentleman to our left ordered sliders to go with his $40.00 glass of wine ! I booked the King Suite as a wedding gift to my son and new daughter in law. Booking was easy but paying was beyond ridiculous. Tried to prepay the room on line no one could help me so I went into the hotel and paid for the room in full. The money was immediately debited from my account. The night of the wedding comes, my son checks in and they bill him for the hotel. How embarrassing. I was mortified. Front desk people were less than helpful so I called reservations where a customer service rep explained that the money would be returned to my son's credit card and my card would be debited. Guess what this didn't happen. The hotel is beautiful, the food is great but what kind of hotel ruins a person's honeymoon. I will never book or recommend this hotel to anyone. Love this beautiful hotel. This is my go to for business trips to Boston. Location is a plus since it's a few steps from work. Rooms are a nice size, too. Love the lobby bar esp the fireplace area. The staff are beyond accommodating and I adore the hotel decor (especially during the holidays) and enjoy the ambiance. TIP: You have to go through the spa service to get to the gym and pool. Gym is top notch and doesn't get too crowded. They also have every equipment you need. Pool is heated, but would be nice if it wasn't enclosed especially in the summer. read more

This is the second time my wife and I have stayed at the Intercontinental Boston and we have not been disappointed. The hotel has a beautiful lobby and we were warmly greeted by staff as we checked in. I had paid for one night stay and used my rewards night for a short weekend getaway and they treated me as if I were staying at the penthouse suite. They make every interaction special and make you feel valued and appreciated. There was a minor hiccup with our room where we did not receive a premier city view, although I paid for one, and they upgraded me to a premier city view on the 12th floor with incredible views of the city. Furthermore, we had purchased the "club continental" which gave us access to the room that provides amazing snacks, soft drinks, appetizers and drinks from 5-7 and an amazing breakfast layout that was truly spectacular. We also had drinks in the lobby by the two beautiful fireplaces they had, which makes for such a relaxing evening. Lastly, the hotel also has a beautiful gym with floor to ceiling windows and have a great pool for adults or families. We now have an amazing hotel to reside in every time we visit Boston. If you need a place to stay, the Intercontinental Boston is the only place you should stay. read more

As soon as you walk in, you are greeted to an amazing feeling of calm that is a wonderful respite from the hubbub of downtown, and the modern facade. The service was very attentive, and the check in was a breeze. Our room was spacious, very well appointed, and the bathroom was quite comfortable with a spacious tub that opened into the room. I stayed here on business recently and had just an OK experience. The stay started out rough: I checked in (quick process), got to my room, and quickly realized that the HVAC system made such a horrendous noise when it switched on or off that there was no way I was going to be able to sleep. So I attempted to call down to the front desk to resolve it; I used the room phone. After numerous failed attempts (disconnected, phone battery died, it had a ton of static on the line, etc.) I went down to try to resolve it in person. I waited in line again, and the woman who I spoke with was pretty understanding. I'm guessing they were full and perhaps she had to get manager approval to get me into an upgraded room (the new bathroom was bigger/nicer), so that took a good 10 minutes. However, they did get me into a nice room on a high floor. The room was pretty worn and could use some upgrades. There was mildew/mold on the shower ceiling, and the cord for the iron didn't stretch to an outlet unless I moved a chair and moved the ironing board right next to the outlet. On the plus side, in-room Keurig was nice, and temperature could be controlled (I like it cold at night, and it let me set it to 62, which some hotels floor at 65). All in all, not worth it for the price you're paying (I wouldn't stay here on my own dime). They did resolve my issue--so they earned a star back after the initial debacle--so good on the customer service front, but not enough to overcome the rest of the package. read more

Visit Boston - if you are white! Beautiful lobby and facilities. The worst part are the staff. Noticed stark difference in the speech, service and overall treatment if you white or a non white. Observing this stark difference disheartening and absolutely repulsive. No wonder Boston is the rated the 2nd most racist city in the country. It must feel good being white. On the positive side, the Club Lounge staff is outstanding particularly Christian and a young staff from Serbia (can't remember her name) - they both serve a raise and some recognition for their hard work and aim to please. My advice when visiting Boston, stay at this hotel on the Club level and enjoy the hotel amenities. read more

Stayed for 3 nights and the first day was just horrible. We checked in our room, it was muggy and hot so we turned down the thermostat to get the room cooled down. After unpacking and getting ourselves settled, we headed out to our first adventure. Upon returning to the room, the temperature in the room did not change at all. We contacted front desk and they sent someone out to fix it. We started to get ready for dinner and wanted coffee which is complementary- no coffee available. Front desk stated the hotel was out of coffee & I can purchase some through room service. No complimentary water either, had to purchase one downstairs In the "so-called" gift shop. Upon returning from dinner, temperature of the room was still not fixed and we requested another room. Re-pack everything all over again to head to another room & unpack all over again! The funny is when we checked out - no apologies for the inconvenience or even a small credit for a water bottle purchase when it's suppose to be complimentary! Bathroom was not the cleanest and mold in the shower. The floor is all stained and had hair from previous guest. Will I stay here again, probably not. Did I expect more customer service considering the hotel is not cheap?! Of course!!!! We all want great service while on vacation. read more

***CAUTION **THEFT ALERT** CAUTION*** A few weeks ago, my laptop was stolen from my hotel room. It was a $6k machine custom built for my work as a set designer in the film industry--and that's just for the hardware. The total easily reaches $12k counting the software & data stored on the hard-drive. Not surprisingly, the hotel denies any liability. Also unsurprising, until one pursues a civil suit, the insurance company (of which the hotel is a client) acts as the "judge" in determining liabilty--a far cry from an objective decision. I am in the middle of pursuing avenues of recourse, legal and otherwise, to secure compensation for this loss. In addition to joining yelp, this excrutiating experience has inspired me to contact as many consumer advocacy agencies as I can find. Prospective travelers: I urge you at the very least to keep a watchful eye on your valuables if not choose a completely different hotel. I suggest The Liberty; which is wonderful!! And in a way better location than the Intercon. Be Safe! read more

How to plan a weekend getaway to Boston six days in advance and on the cheap: 1) When your best friend brings up visiting you in NYC over the long weekend, you propose a "how about we go to Boston?" overnighter. 2) Book roundtrip tickets on Bolt Bus for ~$40. 3) Book the Intercontinental (like OMG I can't wait to stay at a fancypants hotel for a change!) on hotels.com for under $200. 4) Look up T and public transportation options so that you can get to that out of the way Wahlburger's restaurant (which is your main purpose of going, considering you are a giant New Kids on the Block fan). 5) Other than the Wahlburger's trip, walk around everywhere because Boston is definitely walkable. 6) Spend all that money you saved with your budget planning on FOOD instead. Two bowls of chowder a day? Sure! Nom nom. ***** I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It's modern and elegant, and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Location: Super convenient, it's located right off the harbor. As in...the Boston tea party harbor. Yup. That's pretty cool. It's also totally walkable to Boston proper highlights, e.g., the North End, Boston Common, etc. On top of that, it's walkable to/from South Station, at which the Bolt Bus arrives and departs and at which you can catch the T. How convenient! Decor/Room Amenities: LOVED IT. Soooooo sleek and beautiful, but still totally comfortable. There were stacks of magazines and nice toiletries and everything. They had Frette towels (I know, right???) and were eco-conscious with keeping you aware of reusing towels and sheets during your stay, etc. Room: Super duper comfortable. Big room with generously-sized furnishings. There was a desk set with a hideaway plug port, large sitting chair, big TV, and more. I loved the large bathroom with a separate deep tub and walk-in shower. I totally took a bath for the first time in YEARS, and it felt amazing. The beds and super fluffy-yet-firm pillows were also incredibly comfortable. I didn't want to leave. Staff: Friendly and helpful. Considering our super last minute trip planning, we didn't do any research on what to do or see, and the front desk and concierge kindly provided plenty of maps with the attractions highlighted prominently. They also didn't bat an eyelash when we left our luggage with the bell desk upon checking out....and didn't come back for them until 8PM that night. The staff was totally chill. Drawbacks: Two things I would change for this to be a five star stay: (1) Wireless internet is super pricey. Around $15-20 a night, I think. This should be free. (2) They should get two ply toilet paper. Seriously. I know where they were going with the one ply that they had in there - it's super eco-friendly and is the sustainable stuff, according to the label. However, there are some places a fancy hotel needs to shine and provide comfort, and one of those places is toilet paper. Stayed here over the weekend while attending a friend's wedding. The hotel was huge, which I wasn't expecting. Room service from Miel was delicious (try the crabcakes!) and immediate (thankfully, as we were running half an hour late). The bathroom had a shower and a separate tub, which I made my boyfriend wash in, looking like an oversized child, as I took over the awesome shower. One of the best features of the room was that you could open the sliding windows above the bed to look into the bathroom, which I played with many an inopportune time, much to my boyfriend's chagrin. The parking situation was slightly annoying, as you had to walk across the lobby to switch elevators to go down to the freezing cold parking garage rather than them bringing your car up for you. You could, however, call for the car as many times as you wanted during your stay. I went to BU so this area of Boston wasn't one I would normally visit or stay in, but it was extremely convenient to the wedding location. I didn't have any problems with the place, and one great thing was that it was newer than a lot of Boston hotels, however, I probably wouldn't stay there again unless the location was again convenient to whatever I was doing. read more
