DO NOT GO HERE. I only came here because my favorite Korean bbq place (MEOKJA MEOKJA) wasn't open past 10pm. Anyways, I called here at 10:09pm to see if there was a wait and the guy told me yes it's about 45 minutes. So I drove from Lorton to Annandale in about 15 minutes and when My sister and I went inside we asked to be added to the list and was told they wouldn't be seating anymore people and this was at 10:25pm. The hours says they close at 12am so I don't understand why they couldn't take 2 more customers. I forgot to mention when we walked in we waited in the first room to seated. They watched as we waited and didn't acknowledge our presence until we decided to walk in. The manager with the mushroom haircut had a bad attitude and pretty much denied us service. Change your hours if you're not taking people after a certain time! I was inconvenienced wasting my gas and time! Whoever is managing this place needs some serious help. Terrible service on a weekday. We were unaware of the 1.5 hour time limit and were rushed out of the restaurant on a Tuesday night when there were like 5 tables there!! It was my son's birthday. They don't let you mix the meats and the chicken took almost 20 minutes to cook so we spent $200 and ate barely anything. I regret celebrating an occasion here. They won't even allow you to bring a cake in either. I complained to the manager and told him that last time I came here during COVID on a weekend and was not rushed out the door like this so he extended our time. It's impossible to have a good time here when you are rushed out and cannot even mix spicy meats with non-spicy. All these rules are put in place for a mediocre meal. Will never come back here again for the "buffet". Waiters are rude and the restaurant is huge but yet they make you wait all the time here. We went out for an impromptu dinner to Iron Age in Annandale. This was my first visit at this establishment, though not my first time having Korean BBQ. For a party of 3, we had a 20-30 minute wait time as the restaurant was busy. There were a few bright spots, but overall, the experience was just ok. It is an AYCE establishment for $29/person, which isn't terrible. I only eat chicken for protein, so we started with that. The group also ordered beef bulgolgi and soy pork bulgolgi (not pictured). I understand that chicken takes longer to cook, but it seemed like our server was rushing the process, and the meat was pulled off before it was completely cooked. We had to return several pieces to finish cooking, which is not ideal. We ultimately decided to assume the responsibility of cooking our meats. The experience felt rushed and it didn't feel as enjoyable as other experiences I've had. I will say, the group raved about the beef bulgolgi. Previously Il Mee Buffet here. Located in a plaza with full of restaurants, beauty shops, souvenir shops, and coffee shops, this restaurant has been transformed into a fancy looking AYCE Korean BBQ. Lunch: $18 per person with fewer meat options. Dinner: $25 per person. The meat is great, well marinaded, and very flavorful. My favorites: Sauces: Each person is offered 4 different sauces to dip the meat in. Beef brisket: Thinly sliced. They're good but tend to be dry and crispy if they're over-grilled. Beef bulgogi: Very well marinaded, tender, and super tasty. Hawaiian bulgogi: It's just bulgogi with a circle of pineapple. Iron Age steak: Very tender, well marinaded, flavorful. Lemon chicken: Good and tender meat. Iron Age salad: It goes very well with all the meat. The salad is lightly dressed with sesame oil, gojujang, and some vinaigrette tasting ingredients. All the side dishes are great. Steamed eggs are not special. They're just raw egg inside a foil cup that needs to be put on the grill for a while to cook. Staff: Very attentive. Our server was Simon and he was very nice. It's nice to have the staff to cook at the table for us, so they know when would be best to flip/cut the meat. Restaurant: What really impressed me is that this restaurant is a smoke-free BBQ restaurant, so you don't have to worry about smelling like a piece of BBQ meat after you're done eating. The grills are lower than the table surface with some venting holes around it. When grilling, the smoke escapes out of those side holes so nothing comes up. They have 2 types of grills - one for brisket and pork belly because these meats are fattier. They need to cook them on a special grill so when the grease drips down the table won't be caught on fire. The other grill is for the rest of the meat. If I have to make a suggestion, I'd say having 2 separate tongs - one for raw meat, one for grabbing cooked meat. It's not very safe to use the same tong to grab cooked meat after grabbing raw meat. This place took over the old Il Mee, Korean buffet. It is huge and there is no smoke! They have smokeless grills and oh so happy. Their Rockville location, you come out smelling like smoked meats. You have to take a shower ASAP. Anyways, since it seems to be crowded (many 20 something crowd; I felt old!), you don't get the type of service like Honey Pig. Thus the lower stars. Honey Pig servers cut your meats, flip them while cooking. Here: you are left to do it on your own. The only time our water did anything was to cut up the Iron Age Steak (which btw is the best cut of meat here). It is perfectly tender and oh so good - medium rare. Their steamed eggs are so tiny, it takes to long to cook (why cant they serve it piping hot in a bowl like all of the other places?). On the plus side, they do bring out the meats quite fast and do switch out the grills and replenish their banchan when requested. And they have towers of beer too! There must be many people celebrating their birthdays here. They blast that happy birthday song so loud, its deafening. I mean like every 5 minutes that song comes up. Sheesh! We went on a Thursday and even then it was pretty busy, so I couldn't imagine the wait on the weekends. The food was good for all you can eat but no where near 5 star quality. I think in this case it's more quantity over quality. Definitely go hungry! One thing I would wish they did was explain more about what they put on the table in terms of the sauces and sides. I also would have appreciated if the menu was more descriptive. I am not very well versed in korean food names so it made ordering sides something that I did not try. We have been to Iron Age many times and many locations, but we haven't been to this location in a while. We decided to revisit, and I'm not sure if we caught a bad day, but the experience was not as memorable as other locations or even how this location was in our last visit. The service was still top tier great, but that's were things ended. We got the bulgogi meat to start and the cut of meat wasn't the best. There were many hard pieces (I think it was tendon) that were completely inedible. We moved on to the pork steak and the seasoned steak which were much better but very small portions. The banchan never (as mentioned in my previous review) had that many options to begin with, but with what they do have its gotten even more minimal. The pickled radish dish only had 2 slices of radish! The kimchi radish and the salad were also barely filled in their respective bowls. I will still give this location another chance in the future and maybe chop it up to a bad day. read more

There were two of us and we made it through 5 different types, this made me wish the portions were a little smaller so we could sample more food. My husband and I had a great kbbq experience at Iron Age in Annandale this evening! We arrived just before 5pm on a Friday, and had a reasonable 20-minute wait for a table. Moral of the story: Arrive early! It's a large space but gets busy. Overall, check in was very organized: Guests/parties check in atthe front desk and leave a name and phone number, and get a text message when your table is ready. There is a 90-minute limit for dine-in, but we were still able to have 9 helpings of proteins! My favorite proteins, from my most favorite to good but not my absolute favorite (everything was delicious): 1. Bulgogi 2. Iron Age steak 3. Seasoned steak 4. Spicy chicken 5. Brisket (unseasoned variety) 6. Arrived and had to wait 15 min for my table. Was not mad about it, got sat after some soju at the bar. OUR FOOD TOOK AROUND 40 MIN TO SEMI-COOK ON THE GRILL. The limit time is 90 minutes. Our drinks also took like 30 min to arrive to the table. After waiting this long we told our server that we wanted the check, we spoke to the manager which only took away the beer KNOWING that we did not even ate anything but a Bulgogi round. To be honest, I have kinda signed my life away to Sō kbbq in Centreville since it's so close to home and from having consistently bad service at the Iron Age in Centreville. But since the Annandale location opened recently and I had a cousin visiting from out of town, we decided to take him here so we could try it out. They only have a lunch and a dinner menu instead of the usual A vs B menus. This means that for dinner at $25/person, you'll get all of the options including the Iron Age Steak!! Service was quick and attentive and they've really revamped the place! (RIP to Il Mee) They do have certain "rules" when it comes to refilling certain things on the table like the salad and side dishes. Since we already know what we like and will eat lots of, we try to order multiples so that we don't have to keep asking. But our server said that they can't refill our side dishes until the dish is empty. I would come back here if I happen to be in the area. Hopefully this location continues to do well! read more

The sides here are literally radish... that's it; but three different forms of it. We have to order kimchi it does not come as a side. The food is already a huge disappointment, then you have the customer service.... The costumer service is terrible, I've never been to a Korean BBQ place that had such horrible customer service. This Iron Age has been opened for a few weeks now, so the hubs and I decided to give it a try for an early dinner. We went for the Option A, starting off with the chuhl gee steak (Iron Age Steak). As an AYCE establishment, especially in the NoVA area, you'll know that the quality of the meat won't be prime; however, the steaks here was even more disappointing, as it was chewy, stringy, and not as marinated and flavorful as the other location. As the rounds progressed, the steaks and the fatty brisket seem to progressively get worse. We just were not fans of the meat. We actually filled up with eating more of the sides, such as the jahpchae (which was unusually sweet) and the spicy ddukboki (it had a nice thick coating of the spicy sauce, which was kind of addicting!). Staff were friendly, and the place was still loud with the K-pop music videos on full blast. The place doesn't take any reservations, and it's first-come, first-serve; also, all your party members will need to be present in order to be seated (some groups were expressing their unhappiness with this rule). After that, later I asked for an alcoholic drink, the dude took a glimpse at my ID and said "damn 94, your fucking old" "30"? I was in shock in the way he said that. As a front desk employee, I would never expect service like this. I would get written up for this. My issue is that employees in this restaurant need to be better. At serving. If you want to eat mediocre AYCE kbbq while screaming over blasting kpop music, then this is the place to be. As a fan of the Iron Age in Centreville, I was actually pretty excited that a closer location opened up in Annandale. My boyfriend and I decided to try it on a Sunday night for dinner. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how much the restaurant felt like a club. They've got a pretty large technicolor bar, kpop music playing really loudly, and kpop music videos playing on all the tvs and projectors. We were pretty promptly seated but this is kind of where the service started going downhill. There was only one AYCE option to choose from but there is quite a lot of variety. We started off with brisket and pork belly. Both were pretty average. It was actually pretty funny because they only brought out one strip of pork belly, which we thought was unusual. We then ordered the Iron Age Soy Steak and the Bulgogi, both of which were much better than our previous meat selections. They also don't automatically bring out the usual side dishes like kimchi, steamed egg, and soybean soup. We had to ask for kimchi and the steamed egg we got was unlike what we were used too. It came in this teeny aluminum foil bowl and was steamed on the grill. It tasted like regular steamed egg but the portion was tiny. Used to your servers cooking your kbbq for you at other AYCE restaurants? Don't expect that here. We pretty much cooked everything ourselves because it was so hard to get our waiter's attention. At one point, he didn't even turn on the grill so we unknowingly sat there for about 5 minutes before we realized our meat wasn't cooking at all. He dropped by every once in a while after we flagged him down repeatedly to ask for banchan refills. I don't blame him because he was taking care of a lot of tables, so maybe as they ramp up, they won't be so understaffed. Seriously though, the music was too much. At one point, two servers were standing near our table talking to each other and one server verbatim said to the other "I can't hear you, the music is too loud." If your servers can't even hear each other while standing right next to each other, how do you think your patrons feel trying to talk to each other across the table?! Has taken over the spot of Il Mee. I was disappointed when Il Mee closed but Iron Age is 10x better. Modern touch and looks nothing like it did before. Super spacious and a lot of seating. I also liked the feel of their bathroom (they have black toilets)! They're having their soft opening currently and are closing at 10pm most days. Everyone here was super welcoming and some staff are from their Centreville location or other ones. For $25 for AYCE, I'm glad they've opened in Annandale as I never really thought I got my moneys worth from Kogiya or Oegadgib. Tons of parking as well. Our server was John (helping out from the GA location) and he was awesome. Knowledgable and attentive the entire time and we had 12-15 rounds of meat. He had good recommendations and was easy to talk to. Staff members were helping out too including Hannah S., the manager which I always love seeing and appreciate at establishments. We tried the pork belly, brisket, hawaiian bulgogi, beef bulgogi, pork steak, soy pork steak, garlic pork steak, top blade steak, iron age soy beef steak. I would highly recommend the hawaiian bulgogi, pork belly, and iron age soy beef steak. Pork belly is standard, but still delicious. Our grill was acting up and cooked things slower than usual but our waiter said it was just that one .The spicy rice cake is awesome. The jahpche is also good like noodles. The salad is lettuce with a tasty but also spicy dressing. They steam the egg on the grill and came out very good. The brisket came out frozen but cooked fine and was good. The spicy pork steaks came out in two big steaks. That was great and cut well. The spicy chicken came out in big pieces and good. The shrimp had the heads and everything about 6 came out. I like to call myself an all-you-can-eat connoisseur, but more specifically, an Iron Age veteran. I've eaten at the Rockville location 10+ times and the Catonsville location 4 times. Here's how I would rank them: 1. Rockville 2. Annandale 3. Catonsville However, the real competition is between Rockville and Annandale because Catonsville is TRASH lol The Annandale location serves the same high quality meat (relative to other all-you-can-eat Kbbq places) as the Rockville location, while sporting Catonsville's interior design. The food was great, but I felt like the servers were trying really hard to conserve their meat. At the Rockville location, they basically beg you to order more. As for the restaurant's design, I liked that it was more spread out than Rockville. In other words, you don't have to bump into 10 people to use the bathroom lol. Despite the fact that Rockville is always overcrowded, I'm still going to have to give it the upper hand because of its superior pricing. At the Rockville location, you can choose between the $20 meal or the $25 meal, but at the Annandale location, you only have one choice, $25.
