I wasn't expecting much from a gas station restaurant, but this place honestly surprised me. Everything we ordered was better than Denny's or Waffle House and around the same price. My stepmom got the pancakes and the portions were huge, my dad got the steak, and I ordered the loaded tots which were easily big enough to be a full meal. Walked across the street to get some supper from the good ole iron skillet. It has better reviews than most I've been to, so I thought it would be a good idea. My server was super nice and attentive so that was a plus. I sort of feared that my meal was going to end up in utter disaster, after I ordered what was supposed to be a caesar salad. You can see from my pictures, it's not. I don't even think it was Romaine, I think it was butter lettuce, but the lettuce was so warm and limp, it was like somebody left the salad on their dashboard with the sun beating down on it. No croutons, which was nice because I don't eat them anyways but at this point I'm starting to get skeptical because I just spent Texas Roadhouse type money on a truck stop diner. I got the surf and turf with sauteed shrimp and broccoli. I got to say, the steak, even though it was a dollar store steak, the cook made it perfectly for me, I ordered rare, and that's what I got. I hate to desecrate beef, but I had to season her up with a little bit of A1 steak sauce. I'm not overly disappointed, I knew what I was walking into, I just wanted to try something different than what I typically get at this place. But I do know the cook knows his stuff. I would eat here again though. First of all the Valentines day waitress for the evening was incredible, she zipped around like a worker bee trying to get a promotion, I mean girl was polite and fast. We got our breakfasts and ate and ate till we were stuffed full. Watched the show a little longer, as a ex Pub owner I so would have tried to snipe her for our place, she was good. I'm glad to see that this Iron Skillet is still open since some of them have closed. They are no longer 24/7, and they no longer have a buffet. They are located inside the Knoxville Petro. There's counter seating and booths when you first enter. There are more booths and tables in the dining area. You seat yourself. A server will bring menus. Our server dropped off menus and took our drink order. We didn't wait long. She came back with drinks, and we ordered. Our food came out fairly quick. I ordered the Chicken Stir-fry with the sauce on the side. Hubby ordered the Long Haul breakfast with pancakes. Everything was delicious. I really enjoyed the stir-fry. It was made with grilled chicken and came with a thick piece of garlic toast. We ordered dessert to go along with a large coffee. Our server was personable and attentive, checking on us frequently. This is what the Iron Skillet calls a $14 "smash" burger. The fries were ok. They were about the weight of a McD's medium fry. This burger was quite rough. When I brought it up to the waitress she defended it meekly. The way it was cooked, put together, and amount, was at best 5 bucks. Those one will set you back $14. read more

so here we during colvid times. iron skillets pretty much the iron skillet menu wise not much has really changed to bring you a paper one then throw it away. the buffets are still down salad bars are still down indefinitely. still very clean limited hours this one is only open till 8 p.m. every day as of June 30th 2020. it's like any other Petro iron skillet for the most part very wide dining rooms however covid sliced in half by 50%. proper CDC measures are be taken by the servers and the crew that have masks on like they should they also have on gloves when serving its contactless payment and they've keeping up the the good work I came in for some breakfast and had an old fashioned egg breakfast. one of my old favorites the two egg breakfast special I had the soft scrambled eggs, healthy turkey sausage less grease no less flavor, some hash browns and some toast and coffee. food was perfectly fine very good they had the seedless Smuckers BlackBerry jam that I like. all in all it was a good meal. read more

This restaurant is located in the Petro Truck Stop at exit 369. They are open 24/7, so they are always open. You can get a buffet here but it closes at 11pm on Saturdays. Service was ok but I ran out of Sprite at one point but she was trying to take care of the whole restaurant including checking people out so I don't count that against her. Menu items ordered: 2 eggs, 2 bacons, 1 breakfast sausage, and 2 big pancakes with hot syrup and a Sprite. The food was real good and very generous portions of pancakes as they were huge as I couldn't eat all of them. Eggs were great and breakfast sausage was perfect. My bacon was cooked just right and I even complimented the manager about them. read more

I have just about given up on these truck stop locations. I give this place a 2.5 Stars but the other 8 people that I was with said 3.5 Stars. But they don't know any better. LOL! We will just even it to a 3 Star because the waitress did her job well! They can handle a big crowd with ease 2 Stars. They bring your food out good and hot. But Medium Well and Well are two different things. .5 Stars. Let me add that the Fried Chicken and the Mashed Potatoes and Gravy was the damn bomb at this location. Tried this for the first time today. Very cute. It's at a truck stop but it's far from a typical truckers restaurant. We went in and it's seat yourself. They have a moderate buffet with plenty of choices. We were there during breakfast. Their breakfast buffet was not huge but had plenty of choices including make your own waffles, salad, and lots of fresh fruit. Good quality food. I enjoyed how the "plates" were, as the name said, iron skillets. The atmosphere was pleasant. Great service. Friendly and clean. Although this is a bit more than some other breakfast buffets, the quality and amount of choices available was worth it. Less than $20 for both of us. Not bad. Looking for something different on our way to Gadsden for the 127 yard sale. Decided to stop here and glad we did. Food was delicious and tasted fresh. Plenty of seating. We ordered off menu, but the BBQ buffet looked really good. Our whole table got breakfast and it was great. Would definitely stop again, much nicer than your average truck stop. We used to love Iron Skillet salad bars, but suddenly, they decided to chop the veggies so tiny that they've lost all their flavor! The onions, cucumbers, radishes, and peppers are almost "minced"! Brandi was our exceptional waitress. Charlie was our chef. We often come in late to eat at the Iron Skillet since it is at the truck stop. They were out of grits tonight & that was what we wanted so I declined. Brandi & Charlie went out of their way to look for extra grits. They did find a partial bag & fixed them for us. The old fashioned southern grits. It was so good. It was appreciated so much. Our meal was cooked perfect. Three eggs over light, bacon & sour dough toast. Brandi ALWAYS takes exceptionally good care of your customers. She smiles. She is friendly. She is very polite. Personally we feel she is the exception & not the rule. She sets the standard. Most importantly... she is professional & impeccably clean. We appreciate the extra effort & customer service. Thank you so much. We returned to Iron Skillet for another late night dinner. Our waitress was Teresa & the chef was Roy. They both take excellent care of the customers & really work well together. Teresa is so sweet & friendly. She smiles & very personable. Salad bar was clean and well stocked. Food provided fuel for the rest of my trip to Pigeon Forge. Not very memorable but served its purpose. This is a trucker stop not a stand alone restaurant and there is a knife sharpening station next to the restrooms where you can get your up to 6" blade fine tuned. Traveling across Tennessee and I wanted some fried chicken. Yelp pointed me here. Wrong! Our waitress was completely confused by my wish for a fried chicken breast and cole slaw. She decided I was trying to eat healthy and I got a boneless pan fried (no batter) piece of chicken and steamed vegetables - ick! I just ordered wrong. Should have said chicken fried steak with no gravy or something. Hubby had ham, eggs, hash browns and toast and was satisfied. This is a Petro Truck Stop Restaurant iron skillet. I had a Buffett but he was great it was only $10.59. They have pretty good salad bar with the soup and salad & Buffet. The only thing it pissed me off when I ask the server please bring me a water with lemon on the side but she did opposite. Those server donot Listen to you even though you bring it to their attention. They just don't care. But I've been here before it's like a lottery who you get to serve you. Horrible place. DO NOT EAT HERE. They cross contaminate kitchen food with buffet food. Sat down and a younger waitress came over immediately to take drink orders. After taking them (I got hot green tea and my husband got some soda), she informed us that the "thing" down there was our waitress and bid us good luck. Our older waitress came over to take our order along with dropping off our drinks. I ordered a veggie omelette, husband got chicken fried steak. After she left I realized all I got was warm water and a cup, no tea. She comes back over and informs me she can't find the green tea so they must not have any. Got some different tea. After about 20 min and 3 other tables that came in after us got their food, she finally comes over and announces the cook had run out of something, she didnt say what. Now, we had noticed kitchen staff coming out to the buffet and grabbing random handfuls of food and walking back to the kitchen with it. We figured it was food for our order. Southern comfort food. The Ice Tea was some of the best we have had in a restaurant. Refills and plenty of ice. We ate here twice this week while on vacation. The first time I saw the Chicken Livers on the buffet and knew I had to have them. Both my Husband and Daughter had the hamburger and loved everything.
