3/11/26 Had this bookmarked since moving to Montclair (finally tried now that we've left lol)

3/11/25 had this bookmarked when we moved to Montclair and now that we've left, we're finally trying it. Tasty food, attentive, service, classic and clean ambience. This is one great big classic diner that feels like a locals favorite. We almost missed it because it looked like someone's house! The sign was a bit hidden with all the foliage around it. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in. I was awe-struck at the thoughtful decor up on the walls. Everywhere you look it's a classic diner. It's my kind of place. There was even a rotary phone on the wall! Lenore was our server, the sweetest, efficient & attentive person who made us feel at home. She meticulously checked up on us throughout our meal. I ordered an egg scramble & a choice of 3 items (chicken, mushrooms, bell peppers & a side (I opted for pancakes) PLUS toast (or potatoes) all for $14.95!!! Talk about a meal deal! Hubby got his massive chorizo burrito but it arrived with mole that he didn't care for at all. I tasted it, the burrito was great, but the mole tasted a bit weird, which I cannot describe other than tasting a little mediciney? I know, odd. So he scraped it off lol. My scramble was delicious & Leonore asked if I wanted the house-made salsa. Don't mind if I do. Whoa, momma! Delicious spiciness level, fresh & they should bottle it up & call it a day! Even the sourdough toast was top notch. I asked Leonore & she said it's by La Jolla Bakery. There is a dedicated parking at the rear, a bit small but we got lucky & found a spot, free. Additionally, you may park on the street, non metered. Singular restrooms, men/womens (ladies' is clean). I just wish I had tried this spot when we lived in the IE. we would've been regulars for sure.

Meatloaf Omelette and Biscuits and Gravy

My wife and I were in Ontario for a horror convention but needed to grab some lunch first. We couldn't decide on what to eat so we figured a diner would be a safe bet, so we headed to the Iron Skillet! This place was absolutely packed when we pulled into the parking lot, but thanks to counter seating we were sat right away! Before I get into the food and menu, I just gotta say that the staff here was super friendly and helpful during our visit and they alone deserve a five star rating. Now onto the menu! In similar diner fashion the menu here is pretty large and features a ton of different breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes, but what caught my eye was the Meatloaf Omelette listed on the special board, and man oh man, it was the best decision I could of made on this fine Saturday. Not only was I served a massive portion of Meatloaf Omelette, but as a side I was able to order Biscuits and Gravy and together it was just such an insane amount of food, I wish I was able to save some. The Meatloaf Omelette was absolutely delicious from the eggs and cheese to the meatloaf itself and the sauces that covered it, while the biscuits and gravy were delicious as well. Overall, my experience at the Iron Skillet was five stars in every single way. The service here was great, the diner itself looked really cool in the main area, and thanks to the giant brownies catching my eye, I left with two of those and I think those alone might be worth a return trip to Ontario. This place is fantastic.

Second time here and looking forward to the third and fourth and more! The diner feeling breakfast spot just embraces the cozy home cooked meal. Pancakes were light and fluffy and the eggs and bacon hit the spot! Sourdough toast was my favorite...light and fluffy with a great toast on it...not the hard thin sharp type I sometimes get at other chains! Everyone is always so nice there and attentive to our needs! Definitely a place we will continue to visit! See u soon!

    10 oz steak and eggs

Some pros and cons of this place. Huge menu and so many things to choose from. Breakfast served all day. Servers were friendly. Food came out fast. A lot of food for a decent price. I got the steak and eggs and it included bread and a choice of sides and I got the hash browns. Wasn't the best, but It was decent and I was really hungry and ate pretty much the whole thing. One negative is the parking. Really small parking lot and you will have to find parking on the street and walk a bit if there are no spaces left. We came on a Sunday, so not sure if it is usually this busy. Overall, it is a pretty cool, old school kind of spot to grab some food. Again, it's not the tastiest, but there are so many things to choose from that I think you should find something that you will like.

Iron Skillet is everything you want in a breakfast place. It's clean, the menu is pretty wide in selection, and the kitchen is FAST! I was super hungry for breakfast after being non-stop for about 6 hours on a weekend, and stumbled the excellent reviews for this place. Luckily I got seated immediately, but 10 mins later the lobby was completely full. I immediately wanted the Ontario airport breakfast, and was shocked that the food arrived in less than 5 mins. Here's the thing, tho - EVERYTHING on the plate was the correct temperature. Crispy hash browns, warm eggs, warm French toast. I don't know about you, but when I cook eggs at home it takes about 1 minute, but hash browns probably take 8 minutes, and maybe 5 for French toast?? Doesn't matter. Just go & thank me later. Great breakfast spot!!

A solid diner for American classics. Every type of eggs, pancakes, potatoes and more. We came with a large family of 7 to celebrate a birthday and they were able to accommodate easily. Food came out fast, hot, and delicious. The service was fantastic, very happy to accommodate my requests to change e.g. no butter on toast etc. They even brought a special birthday treat for the birthday girl :) The restaurant is cozy and homey, bright with the big windows and televisions with the news are playing, but the place isn't too noisy. A perfect spot for friends and family, large groups. 4/5, service makes it superb

Came here on a whim for a late breakfast. There were people coming in and out but there was no wait line. We got seated right away (just 2 of us). The place is pretty spacious, with inside dining. They have booths and tables available. Televisions everywhere. Decor seems all over the place but it's interesting to look around and pick up on little intentional things here and there. It feels like a family place. The menu is pretty big with a bit of everything. They took order pretty quickly. We went with Eggs Florentine with a side of french fries, and the Breakfast Skillet. Food came out pretty quickly and it was ABUNDANT. We definitely took leftovers to go. Eggs Florentine- I wish I would've asked for the Hollandaise on the side because it was drenched over the English muffins and it getting soggy. The Hollandaise itself was lumpy and not the best but it was still flavorful. They were generous with the ingredients. The french fries were standard, seasoned, and good. I like that they brought out a side of ranch without having me ask for one. Breakfast Skillet- was also a huge portion. Came out with 4 pieces of toast (2 slices of bread cut in half). Everything was cooked well and you could see all the add-ons in the scramble. This could easily fill 2-3 people depending how much each person eats. They also brought out a green salsa with this dish and that was exceptionally good. I asked for another one to take home with our leftovers. Overall, everything was great. The workers are working hard so they on go-go-go- mode but they were attentive and made sure we were satisfied with our meal. Definitely will be coming back.

Place is over 60 years old and has good! Come for breakfast and it can accommodate large parties. Booths, breakfast bar, and the staff has a great friendly culture! 10 out of 10 Come here and eat real quick breakfast for $10 instead of trash stuff at Starbucks for $14. (Just saying) PS - plenty of parking

    Sourdough Bacon Cheeseburger

This restaurant is right up the street from my house and they open early, so my husband and I decided to try it out. He got the sourdough bacon cheeseburger and said it was delicious. I tried his chili cheese fries and the fries were super crispy and the chili was very flavorful! My French toast was really good too, I felt it had too much cinnamon and my eggs were overcooked, when I asked for them to be softly scrambled. The bacon was perfectly cooked. Overall, it's a decent breakfast spot but I feel it's a bit overpriced for what we ordered. There are plenty of specials though so I might try those out if I come back again.

Just good food. We are in town a vacation and happened across The Iron Skillet. Love the older diner feel to the place. Great menu selection and very attentive service. The food was outstanding, cooked well and big portions. Definitely won when we found this place.

I took my grandpa here to celebrate his 90th birthday! He and his brother used to go to this restaurant some 30 years ago and he was very excited to try it again, and it lived up to his expectations so much we came back 3 days later to celebrate again with the rest of the fam! He was sad that they didn't still have their bread pudding - which he said was the best he ever had (don't tell my grandma...) , but they did have very delicious fresh homemade bread so he was happy! The first visit I got the Eggs Florentine which came with 3 poached eggs on English muffins with spinach and tomatoes. There was also 3 pieces of bacon and of course, the hollandaise sauce. The plate came with an option of a side and I got the roasted potatoes. The size of the plate was massive for the approx 15$ price, and everything was delicious! The eggs were slightly over poached this time around but were still gooey. The potatoes were delicious with some caramelized onions and roasted bell peppers throughout. They provided a very large amount of hollandaise sauce as well. My grandpa got the pancake combo which he really enjoyed as well. The pancakes were light, fluffy, and very large. He had is eggs over easy and they were cooked perfectly. When we came back with the rest of our family later in the week, I got the same breakfast : Eggs Florentine. So that goes to show how good it was. This time I asked for the hollandaise sauce on the side and I highly recommended getting it this way as you can add as much sauce as you want , and your bread won't get soggy in the mean time. I didn't say anything, but found that the eggs were better cooked this time as well and were more runny. They did forget my bacon but our waiter was quick on the ball and brought some out to me , plus and extra piece for good measure! We mentioned in passing that we were there to celebrate his birthday and then the waiter brought out scoop of ice cream with a candle for him! The whole restaurant joined in singing happy birthday to him! We felt the love! This time my grandpa got the corn beef hash with some of their homemade raisin bread. He enjoyed both! The hash was very flavorful and had hash browns mixed in. The raisin bread was delicious! Especially with a nice swipe of butter. The rest of my family was also very satisfied with their orders as well. All portions were very large and the price was good. Service was great! Our waiter was very friendly and approachable. As for the restaurant its self it had a very homey old time diner vibe. I definitely enjoyed it and will be coming back again! Date of visits : January 19, 2025 January 23, 2025

Fantastic hidden gem for breakfast! Portions are big and the price is definitely right. We got seated right away in a large area and our waiter Enrique was attentive and very helpful making sure we had our hot coffee cups always full. This restaurant been in business and family owned for over 80 years... Ambience is a little old fashion but I love it! The place is big with lots of booth areas, so seating a big party will not be a problem. What I love the best is that all their food is freshly made daily with high grade ingredients, eYou can taste the difference. We had a family of four and we ate and have plenty of leftovers for the next day! the bill was still only $75.00. Impressive. Will definitely be coming back to this restaurant for more good food. I ordered a Carne Asada torta to enjoy there for lunch as well as a few tamales to take home. I also got one of the conchas to enjoy for breakfast the next day with coffee. A note about the torta - it was absolutely delicious. The bread to fillings (especially the meat/beans) ratio felt perfect. The bread was soft. The chopped chili and side of salsa added more acidity and flavor. I'm usually not a big fan of tortas - a long time ago (like 20 years) I think I had a string of poorly made tortas with this style of bread and I've never ordered them since. So glad I went for it here. This small place in Ontario single handedly changed my mind of what this style torta could be. I've also recently had a torta ahogada (different style bread and sauce) and loved that too. I'm kind of having a torta awakening era. The concha here was better than a lot I've had in the past too! Very soft with the slight caramelized crunch on the top. Hint of cinnamon and so good with coffee. The tamales were also wonderful and was delicious for dinner later in the same evening. I guess you can say I'm a huge fan of the food here. It really helps that the prices are more than reasonable.
