A cool breeze and a busy sidewalk is the ultimate setup in my book. Ironsmith definitely has both of those covered. I saw several funny things on my laptop/people watching session recently, including a skateboarder busting his ass trying to jump a curb and a guy totally hitting on a hot girl only to get shot down...HARD. Aside from the entertainment I witnessed, the coffee here is really good though too. Robust flavor and stronger than most, I'd definitely put it towards the top of the list out of all the options in Encinitas. Seating is limited, but if you're lucky enough to grab a spot they open the front doors. That's the spot you want. Food is limited, but they do have a couple of pastries that said hot girl from above seemed to be enjoying before that dude made her lose her appetite. I made it to Ironsmith! I've passed it so many times when I'm downtown Encinitas. I stopped in on the recommendation and reminder of a friend. The interior is your typical coffee spot with a few tables for two to hang at. The bar seating with the stools is more ideal due to the small layout. I went to Ironsmith specifically for a Golden Milk turmeric latte. I selected oat milk as a non-dairy option for my beverage. I'm not sure this was the best formula overall I've ever tasted but it was tasty. I still think GOODONYA has the best Golden Milk in the Encinitas area. Also the price was slightly more expensive than GOODONYA by a dollar. I'm not sure I will return due to the higher cost and lack luster version of a Golden Milk. I think their specialty may be coffee so be sure to check them out! read more

Amazing coffee. Husband got a flat white and I got a ice chai. Staff is super friendly and service is quick. Would definitely come back if I just wanted coffee to go. The only reason it's not a 5 is because Yelp said this was a great place to work when it's NOT A GOOD PLACE TO WORK. It's got the local feel but also has the sounds of traffic, the train, register, coffee grinder, music, locals schmoozing. The wifi went out 3 times in an hour, 2 of which I was on a zoom call. I love Ironsmith! Their service is top-notch-- everyone is always very friendly and helpful. It has a fun atmosphere, and is also a great place to get some work done. My husband and I like to come here to have work dates and we always have a nice time. I love the window seats and the open feel of it. It can definitely get crowded (darn it!), but that's because it's a great place to hang out and you can't beat the location (downtown Encinitas 101). We've been a few times where we had to someplace else because there weren't two seats anywhere! Coffee is excellent. The presentation of the lattes are always beautiful, and I've had some delicious iced teas too. My husband usually gets cold brew or iced coffee and is always very happy. The last time we were there, they were testing some fall/winter drink recipes, so I'm excited to go back and see what they've come up with! Think ginger, cinnamon... yumm! I've never been disappointed with any of the pastries I've gotten either-- scones, nutella bars, berry pastries. Thanks to Yelp for introducing me to this tiny coffee spot in downtown Encinitas. I've been several times now on the weekend for their cappuccino, which I absolutely love. The shop is pretty small, but service is fast and it hasn't been too crazy busy when I've been (earliest morning on the weekends). I love their local art on the wall, and the open-air feeling of the shop. The menu is easy to read, even if you're new to espresso drinks, and everyone is willing to help. No snobby coffee service here (even if they are coffee snobs, it doesn't show in their service). My only sadness is I wish they had a few more muffins/bars/eating options. read more

It's a great location with potential. It's like most coffee places on Yelp being overrated. The layout of the place is probably the biggest bummer. It can get very congested and feel claustrophobic with a handful of people here because of the bad layout. Basically, it's a herd of half awake people standing around all over waiting for their coffee. The coffee is ok. I tried my girlfriend's coffee and it was decent. Nothing that will blow you away, but not bad. I got the cold brew and it was just bad. It was weak, expensive with a bad aftertaste. When it was my turn, I asked the guy at the counter what kind of coffee ever are brewing right now. When I go to a coffee shop like that, I usually get a basic coffee to figure out the quality. The guy behind the counter responded to me while he was pulling an espresso - I understood nothing. I asked again. "Columbia" and "Indonesia," he said. Hm. That did not help me much. There have been a lot of artisan coffee shops opening up in Encinitas but Ironsmith is one of the best. It has a very Italian inspired environment with minimal seating and primarily espresso drinks. They have a menu with illustrations of the ingredients for each drink (e.g. 1 part espresso, 2 parts milk) which was a very nice touch especially since this information is not necessarily common knowledge. We stopped by this morning while on a bike ride because my wife needed a pick-me-up. In the menu under lattes, was a "latte" called Tumeric Ginger Latte. I recently read about the health benefits of turmeric and heard that it had an interesting flavor in coffee. My wife decided to give it a try. Afterwards, my wife brought up her cup to the barista and commented about the interesting flavor and how she didn't even taste the coffee. The barista replied: "That's because there isn't any coffee in that drink. I'm sorry if that confused you that we call it a latte." So we paid $5 for flavored milk! One suggestion to the management: Make it clear on the menu that this item does NOT contain coffee or stop calling it a latte. FYI Google defines a latte as: "a type of coffee made with espresso and hot steamed milk, milkier than a cappuccino." read more
