Went to lunch on a Wednesday getting the sandwiches we've ordered for 22 years at Isaac's. Ordered the reuben with corned beef & Flaming wrap w/chicken. Server made me so uncomfortable. He was tall, dirty skinny black pants, very fair complexion. Very good hearing. However, his behavior was very dramatic, arms waving, and very theatrical, and kinda of loud. Recieved our order and was very dissappointed by the amount of corned beef. The layer wasn't even as thick as the very small loaf of pumpernickle bread slice. I thought the sandwich was for a child. It was literally 3¼"s of bread, a spatter of cheese, sauerkraut, and dressing. I asked about the portion of meat in the sandwich because there was hardly any meat in it. I was informed that it's all done by weight. So how much weight, 2 ounces per sandwich. Cost $15.99. So they raised the prices of the food offered and reduced not only the amount of "meat" but also the overall size of the sandwich bread or diameter of the wrap provided. I attempted to use a "Buy One, Get One Free Entrée" coupon, which clearly states it is valid after 5:00 PM.Because my order was initiated right before 5:00 PM, the staff and management completely refused to honor the coupon. This refusal happened despite the fact that my final checkout and payment transaction went through at 5:02 PM--well within the coupon's valid hours. I have the receipt and timestamp to prove it.It is incredibly petty and poor customer service to deny a promotional coupon when the actual transaction takes place during the valid timeframe. An equal mix of brewery and restaurant. The vibe was definitely not a party place, but I love that it's family friendly. Super clean with great decor. Tons of parking in the plaza and great daily specials. Also, TRIVIA!! I had the Uncle Johnny's Vanilla/Cinnamon Porter. It was a great tasting stout. Porter for sure but you could easily taste everything that was supposed to be in it. I'm a bit confused about the staff responsibilities. I was greeted at the front entrance by the same person that took my order at the bar in the back. And yes, the bar is in the back with the restaurant up front. Sadly, I'm just passing through. Don't be turned off by the strip mall location in Lemoyne...Isaac's manages to combine craft brewing with an unpretentious menu and atmosphere. Don't get me wrong--I love all things brew pub--but many of them strive for the whole high end "gastropub" thing which can get tiring after a while. Isaacs does brew their own beers though l can't confirm that they actually brew in Lemoyne. The significant other and I stopped in for lunch while out running errands. I had the flaming chicjen wrap; she enjoyed tomato with pepper jack soup. Both were quite good. My wrap was served with the house kettle chips which are sevved in a bag. Lke I sad: unpretentious (the chips wer tasty BTW). I also tried a flight of four 5-oz beer selections and was very pleased. My choices were all lagers and pale ales, and I liked "Don't Be Jaded" well enough to get a crowler to take home. The beer list is a conventional and accessible mix of syles with no exotic sours, Belgian ales, etc. Our sever, Kayana, was friendly, attentive, and efficient. Since moving to PA earlier this year Isaac's has been my go to! Especially this location. Every time the food is fresh and delicious. The kids meal was literally dinosaur chicken nuggets that you can get in the freezer aisle and came out cold - the applesauce was not good either. My son was not a fan. For my sandwich, the corned beef tasted off and I ended up getting sick at home from it. The sandwich my husband had was just okay as well. Nothing to write home to about. Lunch for $30 for two while drinking water. That's about average for the meal price for a quality meal and spotty service. On the last two visits, we were seated in the same seats as well as with the same waitress. Both times we had to ask for pickles. Both times we had to ask for refills on the water. Both times it was not very busy and she just seemed a little aloof to the fact that she was working and waiting on our table. One previous time, no issues with service at all. I really like isaacs. I got the Reuben sandwhich & it was great. I upgraded to fries. Those were also fine. However I ordered for my kids too. The quesadilla was mostly crunchy tortilla & just crap & the pbj was one piece of toast. Not impressed with the kids food at all plus they did not include a kids side like apple sauce, carrots or chips. It was literally just these two kids "meals" then my sandwhich & fries. Really disappointed when I got home & opened up the boxes to this. Won't be ordering from the kids menu again that's for sure. Also the inside had a renovation & looks really nice. I got an in school suspension for inappropriately criticizing Frank Franko during my 11th grade communication class. I am 49 years of age as I type this You see after each public speaking. presentation the student made ...the rest of the class would have to write a criticism of how the student did. This place was so disappointing. It claims to be a brewery, so we both ordered beers. After one sip, we informed the waitress both beers were flat. The waitress informed us she doesn't know anything about beer so she would need to check with the manager about if the beer is supposed to be flat, big red flag. She came back and said my beer was in fact flat, but my fiancé's isn't. Huh? Well we had already ordered food so we decided to grab some cocktails. Nope. Not a good idea, they were watered down and not mixed well, which wasn't too surprising when we found out they didn't have a bartender. Food was just as underwhelming. We paid $9 for cheese curds that looked like something dumped out a bag. No flavor and definitely not worth the price. The actual sandwiches were fine, though not worth the price. I've been a fan of Isaacs for many years, and it's one of those places I tend to somehow "forget" about, then I get a craving for my favorite Gooney Bird sandwich, and remember how delicious a sandwich can be! However, I've never dined at this certain location, and the other day in the midst of a hot humid stormy afternoon we ended up here, and remembered someone telling us recently they are making/selling alcohol now! We saw the updated sign to reflect a hop leaf in the flamingo tail and got excited. We walked in to a newer more modern decor, not the colorful, birds and fish we were used too, but more brewery like. We thought the decor was tastefully done. But we were soon disappointed to hear they can't serve alcohol for a month yet. We perused the more modern menu but opted for our favorites, the Mallard and the Gooney. We ordered the house made tots with ranch, something new and very brewpub type fare. They were pretty tasty, I enjoyed the ranch! The server asked if we wanted the traditional pickled veggies, never need to ask us, just keep it comin! The sandwiches came out- first thing I noticed was my bread was a swirled rye/pumpernickel, which is not the correct bread for the Gooney. It's supposed to be straight up dark pumpernickel- regardless the flavor was good anyways and I ate it all. The Mallard was similar to what we used to get but somehow...different? Not sure what it was. Still good though. The vibe of the staff was a little off, we felt a bit like we were messing up their day. Also it's kind of a turn off when the server comes back to check in and take plates reeking of cigarette they just smoked. A personal preference for me would be wash your hands before dealing with the customer. So it's a mixed review, the food was okay, experience okay. We would go again to try the beer! In the past couple years it turned worse, they added a bar but it didn't hide the poor service and over-priced poorly made food. Tonight was the last time I will walk into this place again. Saturday night and not even half of the restaurant was filled. Let that be your first clue of this bad review. My son ordered Dino nuggets, the server never asked him if he wanted apple sauce, carrots or chips as a side. Our soups came out and then my son's food. Then my husband's food came out (he got a wrap - which wasn't cut down the middle). The server informed me that my food was coming. After 5 minutes, he brought a sandwich, not what I ordered. He sent it back. Then he brought potato salad, I didn't order, so I sent it back. When I finally got my ruffed grouse sandwich, it wasn't on poppyseed bread, and I had fries, that I didn't order. Never got my chips. The server did nothing. No manager was sent out. Yet I paid an overpriced $50+ bill for terrible service and terrible food. I should've demanded my sandwich be comped but I was too angry to deal with an incompetent server and a bad manager. I can't imagine this Issacs will continue to operate. The waitress admitted that it wasn't right and she would remove it from my bill. However, if you knew that the soup wasn't the right consistency why even serve it in the first place?! Why me??? Why??? What is the reason restaurants take great items off their menus or modify them so that they are a mere shadow of what they used to be? Isaac's is one of those places that people seem to like or dislike with ease. In general, I like it. They offer fresh food at reasonable (but not cheap) prices. They have a "bird" themed menu so you need to read the descriptions to understand what you're really getting. For example, while you literalists would expect a slab of hummingbird on a Hummingbird sandwich - what you actually get is roast beef and bacon. Truth in advertising? Apparently not. But it is somewhat clever. Now for my big complaint. My husband and I used to go there just for a Sonoma salad (which has toasted walnuts, dried cranberries, etc.) and have them add a scoop of their Almond-Chicken salad. The Sonoma salad USED TO come with two slices of fluffy, flaky french bread that had been topped with a generous amount of blue cheese crumbles that was then broiled until the cheese slightly melted and the edges of the bread were slightly toasted. YUM, YUM, YUM! The savory saltiness of the blue cheese topped bread was the PERFECT foil for the sweet dressing and dried cranberries of the Sonoma salad and the creaminess of the Almond-Chicken salad that we added. Fast forward to just a few weeks ago, we order our favorite. It comes with PLAIN bread. We told our server that they gave use the wrong bread. She announced that THEY NO LONGER INCLUDE THE BLUE CHEESE TOPPED BREAD with the salad. WHHHHHHHAAAAATTTT? It's ruined. It was the main reason we ate at Isaac's so frequently. We can't find anything else on their menu that we want to eat that often. The other food is good, but our Sonoma+Almond-Chicken was an obsession. Checked in on 11/13/2015 for lunch. Went with a colleague. I had a black bean sandwich. She had a combo of half sandwich and a tomato soup. The black bean sandwich was excellent. The service was good, food was served hot, the way it is supposed to be served. Most of the tables were occupied. So, all servers were busy. We had to wait for a bit for someone to come to seat us. First off the clam chowder was the furthest thing from a chowder I've ever had. For a place that touts homemade soups, I expected more. Stay away from the "chowder" here. I want to LOVE Issacs. I really do. But everytime I go I pretty much think, that was alright. I'd come back again. Then I don't go for awhile and go back and think oh man this is going to be great. And it always leaves me satisfied but not wow'd. I just can't put my finger on what's missing. But here goes. The menu is bright and filled with a variety of sandwiches, salads, and soups. They now have a combo special that I assume changes monthly and its a decent deal for 8.99 you get a sandwich, a side, chips, and a drink. Most of the sandwiches are about $8-9 already so you're essentially getting the side and drink for free. Considering how steep the prices are for a sandwich this makes you feel alright about it. I used to get the Hoopoe which is a tuna sandwich on a toasted multigrain bread with cheddar and bacon? Is the bacon new? Don't know. But I got it today and didn't even see any bacon which was fine. The bread was yummy and the tuna was OK. It was a little heavy on the celery which for my taste, isn't great but I imagine others think its good so I won't knock it. Just my personal preference. The chips that came with it were a mix of regular and sweet potato chips. I enjoy this. I got the regular combo with a soup and I chose the soup of the day which was a chicken corn. It was tasty but a touch salty. I'm still drinking water this afternoon in recovery of the salt. Oh well. The pickle mix that they serve before hand is similar in flavor to a chow chow and I find it very good. So why 3 stars? I Just don't find the sandwiches remarkable. I mean they're okay. But I never am over the top wow'd by them. For the way the menu is laid out and how they're described I would expect a flavor explosion with each one. But they're just ordinary sandwiches with crazy names at an elevated price. They do have a frequent visitor club you can join and they send you promos and if you purchase 10 sandwiches or 5 soups you get a free one so that's always nice. Plus you get something for your birthday. They also have a fun kids menu and dessert menu so it is a good family stop. This particular location is BYOB too so you can bring a bottle of wine to go with your fancy sounding sandwich. Will I come here again? Probably its a nice lunch or quick dinner option. The place is amazing. We have actually been to all three and all of them were great. The pepper jack tomato is actually addicting. The chicken soup and hunters chicken are great too. I'm sure all of their soup is good but those were the only ones we have tried so far. Everything is fresh and the restaurant is extremely clean. The service is always friendly and professional. Isaacs is my favorite sandwich stop because they offer several different vegetarian options. Most places the only selection is a sandwich with just cheese. Isaac's has a fresh portabella sandwich (called Rose of Sharon I think) that is my favorite. They also have a black-bean burger and several more sandwiches... but I usually order the same thing.
