This is my favorite Puerto Rican restaurant thus far. I was craving some alcapurrias and pasteles and this place exceeded my expectations. The arroz con gandules was very good, tasted just like home. The ambience is great! Good music made me nostalgic of when I lived in PR. Let me also entertain you on the staff. Wow!!! Absolutely welcoming, they treated us just like family. I really enjoyed coming here with my girlfriends for a Sunday lunch! It was their first time having Puerto Rican cuisine so I wanted them to try a little bit of everything. Drinks: - Guanabana and passion fruit (it's more of a smoothie than a watery juice) Appetizers: - bread is served with a touch of garlic sauce (more of a wheat/seed bread and not the usual pan de agua or pan sobao) - sorullitos de maiz (stuffed with cheese) - bacalaitos (fried cod fish served for 4) - alcapurrias de jueyes (stuffed with crab served for 2-- delicious!) Main dish: - mofongo with shrimp in garlic butter sauce - mofongo with churrasco - churrasco with rice and mofongo Dessert: - espresso - vanilla flan with a dab of whip cream (great!) Overall it was a great meal! Service was fantastic! Loved not being rushed even though they had a wait outside. Everyone (even the bus boys) were eager to help. The owner even stopped by each table to see how everything was going. Please keep in mind it's VERY busy during lunch and dinner hours. If you come with a large party, I suggest you call in advance. I had the mofongo and fried pork chunks and was served with pork broth. I dipped my pork in it and it was delicious. There's also a mayo based red sauce, and a chili sauce, I recommend you try both with your mofongo and any meat you order, it will bring in the flavor to your mouth. Waiters are super friendly and sweet. I enjoyed my dining experience very much. Oh yeah! Almost forgot! Try the guava cake! It's yum yums! read more

I first visit this restaurant a couple of months ago with some friends.....we asked for some kind of a sampler. The alcapurrias were raw in the middle and the arañitas looked more like potato sticks all over the place. The octopus salad had too much vinegar on it.... Second visit....now alcapurrias were burnt and the tostones were really bad. I asked for the papaya with cheese dessert and it was from a can.....hum I would rather not sell this if it was my restaurant. Third and most interesting visit.....my wife and I drove about 40 minutes to the place....we asked for a table for 2.....the waiter showed us a small table and since there were several open tables I asked to be seated in a table close to the wall. The waiter went and got the owner who told us he could not sit us in a table for 4 because in 10 minutes the place will be full...as I said there were about 6 open tables.....i kindly said No Gracias Buenas Tardes and left.....I can't help but wonder what would have happened if when we got there there were only table for 4 would he had made us wait...needles to say we went to Pekaditos Viejo San Juan and the food was GREAT and right on point as always had been. Food is fresh and exquisite-- beer could be colder but probably is selling so well it's hard to deep chill them. Definitely a must try and the Pastelon is worth all the calories. Great place. If you like Puerto Rican food this is the place to go. The atmosphere is great, the owner always smiles, and the restaurant is always clean. The arroz con gandules is excellent. The chuleta Can Can-Amazing, the tres leches de coco was really good. The Mofongo de yuca was great, I've never had that before. Two things, the alcapurrias were too thin and they didn't taste like the thick ones that you usually order in Puerto Rico, and the Lechón was a bit dry. I almost sent it back. This was last night. I've been there 5-6 times it's never happened before. Over all a really good place. Will continue to go and recommend to friends. The worst experience I've had.....I ordered a mofongo with Salmon and it was spoiled... I told the owner and with attitude came and told me that I wasn't right..... What a disappointment and unsatisfying dinner. Ordered a medium temp Churrasco Mofongo. Took about 40 min to then get a super cold plate. The steak was probably sitting a good 20 min before it was brought out. I then asked to see if they can do something about it. 5 minutes later, they bring back the same piece of steak which appears to have been put back on the grill or even a microwave, and bring me back the same plate. So now I have an over cooked hard steak. Really? To make matters worse, they charge the plate! Never been one to complain, but never going back to this restaurant.
