We highly recommend this diner. The food was very good quality -- better than we expected and better than the average diner fare. The service was very quick too. We had the California BLT ( BLT with Avocado ) and Fish Tacos. Both were excellent. The fries which accompanied the CBLTs were also first rate. We were in the area to do the tourist thing and visit Deception Pass. We plan to go back on our next trip to Whidby Island. read more

This diner-type place reminds me of some restaurants back home, which I really enjoyed. We ate here for dinner and breakfast, back-to-back. The clubhouse sandwich was good, as well as the Western Scramble 14 hours later. It wasn't gourmet, but it was a diner, and it was a good one at that. read more

Just moved to the area and looking to explore different restaurants in the area (not as many choices than San Diego of course). It's diner style food and love they serve breakfast all day. They serve pasta, steak, sandwiches, and have a simple dessert menu that includes cakes, smoothies, and shakes (which I will try next time). Waiters were all friendly and checked up on us frequently. Great customer service! I ordered the "island breakfast" aka #9 and its a simple breakfast plate with eggs, hash items, ham, bacon, sausage and your choice of pancakes or French toast for $12.99. My review is solely based on breakfast. With that being said, we've been there 3 times now and this place is okay. Our service is usually lacking, always have to ask two-three times for something before we get it (like a side of ranch or creamer), but they always keep my coffee full. I always get the eggs benny, which are very good. My husband gets the hash, first time was great, second time the hash was like, bad/old/something and he literally couldn't eat it. Third time we came, he ordered a simple eggs, bacon and hash brown place and the bacon was not cooked properly. It's always packed though, so I think everyone that is from here really enjoys this place. I don't know if we'll be back, but judging the selection of places in the area that serve breakfast foods, we just may. read more

So I ordered a hamburger from this place for the first time today. I asked for it to be well done. That means I don't want blood gushing from the burger or any pink meat. One bite, all I took was one bite and the entirety of the inside was barely cooked. They weren't even busy and I ordered online so they had time to cook my food thoroughly. Well this place is just alright... Not to many restaurant options to choose from in Oak Harbor so I guess it's probably one of the better and affordable places. Came on a Sunday before the brunch crowd which it seemed the waiter was kind of hurrying us up he even picked up my plate before waiting for me to respond if I wanted him to take it... So I had to actually say "oh I'm not done with that" and proceeded to place it back down. He came to our table about 3 times after we got our food so it made it seemed very rushed. All and all the food is just ok not something to get excited about and this is one of the few options so you kind of have no choice to eat here or rather just eat at home or drive out of town. I recently moved to Oak Harbor from Hawaii and really wanted to try different restaurants around the town to find my favorites. We decided to give Island Cafe a try. To my amazement the restaurant was clean and service was prompt and the prices were quite reasonable. I had the prawn fettuccine and my husband had the clam chowder and I have to say that was absolutely the best fettuccine I have ever had anywhere and my husband said the clam chowder was also some of the best he's ever tasted. The service was poor. I will be the first to admit I am a little high-maintenance (celiacs), but the waitress was uninterested and quite honestly just a grump. Very impressed. Conveniently located in the center of Oak Harbor. Great place to relax and enjoy a good breakfast and grab a cup of coffee. Prices are reasonable compared to places like Denny's. Typical diner food. Staff was very nice. We had avocado burger which was tasty and sweet potatoe fries. Chicken fettuccine which was ok. sauce was good but the chicken was dry. That is typical though. chicken breast is often dry because they have to cook it to a certain temperature and often that temperature dries it out. otherwise we liked it. It was close to our hotel too. oh lastly we ordered a side of hash brown and it was awesome! I like my hash brown nice and crispy but not burnt of course. next time we will go for breakfast! read more

So I just ate at this restaurant! And yes the food here was amazing I love Island Cafe when it comes to taste and always getting what I want when I'm craving something! But I have to say this was the worst service I have ever had in my life! Soda started off the Hostess sat me down! And then handed me a menu for the super soaking wet table so I couldn't even move it it was stuck to the table! And then she took forever to get my drink order and I actually was getting a drink order she was rushing me didn't want to listen to anything I had to say and then I kept rushing me to order off the menu ask me if I was ready and I said no and as I was getting ready to ask can I ask you something to our can you tell me something she was already across the restaurant behind the cash register didn't give two craps about me! I've been in the service industry for about 8 years now and I'm telling you never once have I left a $1 tip because I know the struggle I know what it's like but when I get treated that bad when I'm pissed off my whole meal yeah I'm not giving you any of my money except for $1 but you guys really need to train your waiters and waitresses none of the waitresses came up and introduced themselves or were friendly or anything I had to be served by the host and she was the worst ever very disappointed I might not ever come back to this Island Cafe!!! read more
